Harrowing Tale of Alleged Accidental Shooting Unravels: Husband Admits to Killing Wife

Inset: Stephen Ray Lang (Harrison County Sheriff’s Department). Background: The area in Indiana where Lang allegedly shot and killed his wife (Google Maps).

An Indiana husband, aged 32, finds himself tangled in a tragic narrative after allegedly telling authorities that a fatal shooting of his wife was accidental. The incident left her with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest in their home.

Following the incident, Stephen Ray Lang was apprehended on Thursday night. He now faces charges including murder, domestic battery, intimidation, and pointing a firearm, as announced by the authorities.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department reported that Stephen Ray Lang called 911 to report the incident as an “accidental gunshot.” Responding to the call just before 10 p.m., deputies arrived at the family’s residence located on Hillcrest Drive in Mauckport, around 140 miles from Indianapolis.

Once there, first responders discovered Sara Lang suffering from a chest wound. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a somber turn of events.

Detectives identified a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun as the weapon used in the shooting. Investigators have not disclosed what evidence led them to conclude Lang should face a murder charge despite his claim that the shooting was accidental.

Two children — a 14-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl — were inside the residence when the shooting took place, according to investigators.

Additional details about what allegedly happened before the fatal shot came from Stephen Lang’s own relatives, who spoke with Louisville, Kentucky, ABC affiliate WLKY.

Stephen Lang’s sister, Sarah Shireman, said the shooting happened after an argument between Sara Lang and the teenage boy. She claimed her brother intervened during the dispute and pulled out a handgun.

“With all the bickering going back and forth, I think he was literally just trying to get them to be quiet, and everybody just calm down,” Shireman told the station.

Shireman acknowledged that her brother had a history of displaying a firearm during arguments to intimidate people, including during an altercation with her several months earlier.

“He pulled it out because he thinks he was hot stuff,” she said. “I will admit he acted like he was going to do something with me and him when we got into a fight a couple months ago, but it didn’t work out for him.”

Shireman maintained that despite those encounters, she does not believe her brother intentionally killed his wife.

“My brother is not a killer. My brother is the sweetest,” she said. “He is the sweetest person ever and would do anything to help anybody.”

Speaking of the deadly incident, Stephen Lang’s father reportedly said “it was a simple, little, stupid argument that got out of hand.”

The Harrison County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy as detectives continue investigating the circumstances of the shooting.

Florida Senior Defends Against Alligator with Quick-Thinking Fishing Pole Move

0

This alligator picked the wrong senior citizen to tangle with.

Faced with an unexpected alligator attack, a resourceful fisherman in Florida narrowly avoided disaster by pressing his thumb into the reptile’s eye before vigorously striking its head with his fishing rod.

On July 3, James Grayson McMicken, aged 71, set out for an evening of peaceful fishing with his bulldog along the canal behind his residence in North Fort Myers, only to be ambushed after just one cast.

“As I started to reel in the line, it suddenly leapt out from the water and clamped onto me,” McMicken recounted to KGNS News.

The alligator latched onto his right leg and dragged him into the canal, leaving him with mere moments to act.

Fortunately for McMicken, and unfortunately for the alligator, the angler was an experienced gator hunter, which gave him the instincts he needed to thwart the attack.

“He rolled me down off the bank into the water. I stuck my thumb in one eye, and I just took that fishing pole and jabbed him in that other eye and jabbed him and jabbed him and jabbed him. It seemed like forever, but it wasn’t that long. But then, he turned loose,” he told the outlet.

“I’ve always heard that if you’ve got no other choice, get them eyes, and that’s what got him off of me.”

With the threat neutralized, McMicken, badly bleeding from deep bite wounds on his right leg, now had to figure out how to make it home.

He called to the bulldog, who stood in place so her owner could use her as leverage to get to his feet before hobbling home.

His wife cleaned his wounds and he collapsed in his chair, exhausted, before his family rushed him to a local hospital, where he received stitches and staples on both sides of his mangled leg.

McMicken’s brush with death made him a bit of a celebrity while he was in the hospital.

“All the nurses on the floor had to come by and go, ‘Wow, you did what?’” he said. “I’m going to do everything I can not to die. No gator is going to run me off.”

Now recovering at home and preparing to start physical therapy, McMicken says the close encounter won’t deter him from his favorite hobby, though he told the outlet he would be keeping his eyes peeled from now on when casting his reel from the shore of the canal.

The close-call follows a pair of recent gator attacks in Florida, including one in which 31-year-old Brittany Clark was fatally mauled by a 12-foot alligator while swimming in the Econlockhatchee River with her boyfriend June 27.

That same day, a Pennsylvania boy lost a hand in a savage alligator attack while on a fishing vacation with his family at Nelson’s Fish Camp in Marion County, Florida.

Alligator attacks are rare in the Sunshine State, despite a population of more than one million of the reptiles, and most bodies of fresh water in the state presumed to contain the creatures.

Florida Influencer and Spouse Face Charges for Allegedly Abandoning Children During Night Out

Over the Fourth of July weekend, a real estate entrepreneur from Florida, who also maintains a strong presence as a social media influencer, and her spouse found themselves in legal trouble. They were apprehended after allegedly leaving two small children unattended in a hotel room at a Key Largo resort while they enjoyed drinks by the pool, as reported by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The individuals, identified as Allison Sirica Cannella, aged 40, and Brian Nicholas Cannella, aged 43, who both reside in Delray Beach, are facing serious charges. According to jail records, each has been charged with two felony counts for child neglect.

The incident took place at the Reefhouse Resort & Marina in Key Largo, prompting deputies to respond around 1:45 p.m. on a Saturday. Staff from the hotel contacted authorities after discovering a room with a baby crying continuously without adult supervision.

Within the hotel room, law enforcement found two young children left alone in cribs. The investigation revealed that resort staff had tracked down the Cannellas at the pool area, where the couple had been partaking in alcoholic beverages.

Security camera footage, witness statements and other evidence indicated the children had been left unattended for approximately 40 minutes to one hour, investigators said.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified, and the children were released into the custody of a family friend until child welfare officials arrived. Authorities said neither child suffered serious injuries.

Both Cannellas were arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail. Their first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 1.

The arrest stands in stark contrast to Allison Cannella’s public image, which centers on luxury real estate investing, home renovation and social media.

Her private Instagram account highlights luxury real estate, renovation projects and Florida lifestyle content while identifying her as a lawyer and real estate investor. The profile also links to Exhale Vacation Rentals and an online storefront featuring products from her renovation and design projects.

Cannella also was featured in “Atlantic Ave Magazine,” which highlighted her renovation of luxury Florida vacation rental properties. The publication detailed one waterfront investment project that more than doubled its annual rental revenue after an extensive redesign.

Her employer’s online biography says Cannella has more than 15 years of real estate and legal experience and has worked on more than $25 billion in real estate and corporate transactions. She serves as senior vice president and general counsel and previously practiced commercial real estate law.

News Media reached out to Allison Cannella, the company where she is employed, Exhale Vacation Rentals and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for additional comment but did not immediately receive responses.

Revealed: Alex Rodriguez’s White Party Mystery Woman Steals the Spotlight

The enigmatic brunette seen in a romantic moment with New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez has been identified.

The former Yankees star, now 50 years old, was noted sharing an intimate moment with the then-unnamed woman during Michael Rubin’s exclusive White Party in The Hamptons last week.

This affectionate encounter came shortly after Rodriguez’s split from fitness coach Jaclyn Cordeiro, sparking widespread discussion.

It seems the Major League Baseball icon has a clear preference, as it’s been disclosed that his new romantic interest comes from the same professional circle.

According to the New York Post, Rodriguez is currently linked with Meghan Hayden, a private fitness coach, who is at the center of the recent buzz.

‘They are dating. It’s new. She’s a really nice person from a great family,’ an insider told the outlet.

The couple are said to have arrived at the Gatsby-esque soiree at Rubin’s $50million mansion near Bridgehampton, Long Island, with a group of friends.

However, Rodriguez and Hayden ‘definitely looked coupled up’ with his friends redirecting the flirtatious advances of other women away from the former baseball star.

Hayden is a former Division I athlete and University of Miami graduate, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, according to her website, ‘Take Off With Meg.’

In addition to coaching her clients, the fitness instructor also models for brands such as Under Armour and Athleta.

Rodriguez, who previously enjoyed a high-profile romance with Jennifer Lopez, was caught locking lips with Hayden during the exclusive White Party.

In a passionate display, the couple were seen sharing a romantic kiss and chatting during the celebrations at Rubin’s 8,100-sq-feet Hamptons home.

Rodriguez leaned in as Hayden, who wore a silky halter backless mini dress, wrapped her hand around the back of his head.

The raunchy rendezvous comes six weeks after the former baseball star and his ex-girlfriend Cordeiro, 46, called it quits.

The couple, who had been together for over three years, reportedly chose to go their separate ways after a long period of reflection

‘To clarify, Alex and I are currently taking some time apart but there continues to be mutual love, care, and deep respect between us and for our families,’ Cordeiro told TMZ.

‘We remain supportive of one another, and there is absolutely no animosity, drama, or negative story here,’ she added. ‘I’m also navigating a serious health matter involving a family member at this time, so my focus is understandably there.

‘Alex and I continue to be very close, and out of respect for everyone involved especially our daughters and loved ones I’d kindly ask that any reporting reflects the compassion and privacy this situation deserves.’

Insiders close to the New York Yankees legend revealed that the couple had actually been quietly living separate lives for about two months before the news broke.

Cordeiro is also reportedly navigating a serious health matter involving a close family member, which has naturally shifted her personal focus away from the relationship.

The couple were first romantically linked back in October 2022 before making their relationship Instagram official during a festive family trip that winter.

They later made their first major public appearance together at an NBA game in January 2023, quickly becoming a staple of the celebrity sports scene.

Throughout their three-year romance, the pair frequently shared glimpses of their blended families, often posing alongside their respective daughters on social media.

Marco Rubio’s Insightful Response to Balogun’s Red Card Reversal by FIFA

0

Secretary of State Marco Rubio faced an unexpected query on Monday morning but seemed ready with a response.

Entering a meeting with Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna at the State Department, Rubio was approached by a reporter during the introductory handshake between the officials.

“Mr. Secretary, what’s your reaction to FIFA reversing the red card suspension after pressure?” questioned an off-camera voice.

Contrary to some reports, there was no external pressure involved. Earlier, President Trump revealed in an Oval Office session that he contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss the red card that sidelined Folarin Balogun, a key player for the U.S. Men’s National Team, during a pivotal World Cup match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Balogun faced suspension from playing in the next round against Belgium due to the card. Though Trump believed the decision was flawed and warranted review, Infantino made it clear that FIFA’s independent judicial bodies hold authority in such matters and final decisions are beyond his purview.

Gainesville Resident Receives 15-Year Prison Term Following Guilty Plea to 20 Child Pornography Offenses

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a recent court decision, 30-year-old Alexander William Callison has been sentenced to a 15-year prison term, followed by 10 years under sexual offender supervision, after submitting a plea of nolo contendere regarding 20 separate child pornography charges.

Callison’s initial arrest took place on June 4, 2025, following a CyberTip that traced a Kik account linked to 651 images and videos. Remarkably, 591 of these visual files depicted a similar individual—described as a lean, muscular Caucasian male with tattoos, featuring a cross on his chest and an additional marking on his forearm.

Further investigations revealed another CyberTip comprising conversations with other Kik users who claimed to be underage. Callison was found to have sent videos of a sexual nature after learning of their purported ages, and the exchanges reportedly included sixteen occasions where he solicited inappropriate content from these individuals.

The phone number used for establishing the initial Kik account was directly connected to Callison. This same number was tied to the IP address utilized for content uploads found in the second CyberTip, further disclosing Callison’s involvement.

On June 5, 2026, Callison entered a plea of nolo contendere to 10 counts of using a computer to solicit a minor, five counts of transmission of material harmful to minors, two counts of possession of child pornography, and three counts of directing or promoting a sexual performance by a child.

Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard sentenced him to three concurrent sentences of 15 years in prison for the three counts of directing or promoting a sexual performance by a child, and she added 10 concurrent sentences of five years of sex offender probation for using a computer to solicit a minor, followed by an additional seven concurrent sentences of five years of sex offender probation on the remaining charges. Callison will be designated as a sexual offender with lifetime registration obligations.

Callison has been held in the Alachua County Jail since his original arrest and will be credited 370 days toward the prison sentence.

Meet Erdoğan: Turkey’s Unpredictable Leader Reshaping NATO and Global Politics

0

With President Donald Trump preparing for his visit to Ankara, Turkey, to attend the forthcoming NATO summit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan once more finds himself at the heart of alliance dynamics.

Trump’s admiration for Erdoğan, whom he describes as “a friend” and “a respected leader,” emphasizes a growing rapport that could significantly influence defense discussions between Washington and Ankara, particularly concerning Turkey’s persistent drive to strengthen military collaboration.

This scenario underscores Erdoğan’s notable stature: formerly one of NATO’s more challenging partners following Turkey’s 2019 acquisition of the Russian S-400 missile defense system, the nation’s influence within the alliance has only become more crucial amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, continual unrest in the Middle East, and the increasing strategic importance of the Black Sea.

Nevertheless, Erdoğan is often seen as an enigmatic figure. Analysts suggest that rather than adhering to a single ideological perspective, Erdoğan frequently shifts politically, aligning himself with ideologies that serve his primary aim: securing his position of power.

Erdoğan has ruled Turkey for more than two decades, evolving from an Istanbul mayor with Islamist roots into a pro-European reformer, then a nationalist strongman, and now a pivotal NATO power broker courted by Trump.

To supporters, he restored Turkey’s global stature. To critics, he hollowed out its democracy while jailing rivals, journalists and activists. But Erdoğan’s most defining trait, experts say, may be less ideology than survival.

Is he an Islamist? A nationalist? A Western ally? A Russian partner? An authoritarian?

Perhaps the most important thing to understand about Erdoğan is that he has been all of those things — at different moments, according to Gönül Tol, founding director of the Middle East Institute’s Turkey Program and author of “Erdoğan’s War: A Strongman’s Struggle at Home and in Syria.”

“He’s not an ideological man,” Tol told News Media. “He’s very pragmatic, first and foremost a populist.”

Erdoğan’s roots lie in Turkey’s Islamist political movement. Educated at an Imam Hatip religious school, he entered politics through National Outlook, a right-wing Islamist movement founded by Necmettin Erbakan, and eventually became mayor of Istanbul as a member of Erbakan’s Welfare Party.

But after founding the AKP, or Justice and Development Party, in 2001, Erdoğan abandoned the Islamist label, presenting himself instead as a “conservative democrat” committed to economic reform and closer ties with Europe — a shift that experts say marked the first of several political reinventions.

When Erdoğan and his Justice and Development Party first swept to power in 2002, Turkey was seeking membership in the European Union, military influence over politics was shrinking, and Erdoğan promised democratic reforms, economic modernization and closer ties with the West.

Many liberals and centrists initially supported him.

“He often said, ‘I’m not an Islamist anymore. I’m a conservative democrat,'” Tol said. “And that brand really served him well.”

Those early years transformed both Turkey’s economy and Erdoğan’s popularity.

After consolidating power, Erdoğan began another political transformation.

Following the Arab Spring in 2011, he increasingly portrayed himself as a champion of political Islam, backing Islamist movements across the Middle East while presenting himself domestically as the defender of Turkey’s conservative religious majority.

“He wanted to inject more Islam into public life, into education,” Tol said. “He was using this more Islamist narrative… the goal was always to acquire more power.”

That anti-Western turn went beyond rhetoric.

In 2016, Erdoğan accused the U.S.-led coalition of supporting terrorist groups in Syria, including ISIS and Kurdish militias that Turkey considers terrorist organizations— an allegation the State Department dismissed as “ludicrous,” according to Reuters.

His increasingly vocal support for Hamas and sharp criticism of Israel became defining features of his foreign policy.

“The perpetrators of the massacre and the destruction taking place in Gaza are those providing unlimited support for Israel,” Erdoğan said in 2023, adding that Israel’s attacks and those backing them amounted to “murder and mental illness,” according to Reuters.

Tol cautions against viewing those positions alone as evidence that Erdoğan remains primarily motivated by Islamism.

“Anti-Israel sentiment cuts across ideological lines in Turkey,” she said, arguing that Erdoğan’s foreign policy has consistently reflected political calculation more than religious doctrine.

As Turkey’s economy slowed and regional ambitions faltered, Erdoğan pivoted once again.

He embraced Turkish nationalism, built alliances with hardline nationalist parties and cultivated the image of an indispensable strongman capable of restoring Turkey’s historical influence.

Supporters credit him with transforming Turkey into a regional power.

“He does have genuine support,” Tol said, estimating his support at roughly 35%.

Some supporters depend on government assistance and patronage networks built under his rule. Others believe Erdoğan restored dignity to conservative religious Turks who long felt marginalized by the country’s secular establishment.

Still others view his increasingly assertive foreign policy as proof Turkey has reclaimed its place on the world stage.

“They think, ‘We have become a world-class nation,'” Tol said. “‘Everyone is praising our president. Turkey is a big player.'”

While Erdoğan continues to command a loyal political base, critics say the price has been Turkey’s democratic institutions.

Authorities increasingly have used courts and criminal investigations to sideline political opponents, including Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose arrest earlier in 2026 triggered nationwide demonstrations, according to Human Rights Watch.

The organization says the government has intensified efforts to weaken Turkey’s main opposition party despite its strong performance in the 2024 municipal elections.

Today, Erdoğan finds himself in another political transformation.

After years of anti-Western rhetoric and disputes with Washington, Turkey has worked to repair relations with the United States and Europe.

That rhetoric was once central to Erdoğan’s posture.

He accused the U.S.-led coalition in Syria of supporting terrorist groups, blasted Washington’s sanctions over Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system, calling them a “hostile attack” on Turkey’s sovereign rights and defense industry, and repeatedly accused Western governments of enabling Israel’s war in Gaza.

The shift comes as Turkey’s strategic importance has grown dramatically.

The S-400 purchase remains at the center of one of the biggest unresolved disputes between Washington and Ankara. After Turkey took delivery of the Russian system in 2019, the U.S. expelled Turkey from the F-35 fighter jet program and later imposed sanctions on Turkey’s defense procurement agency.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey James Jeffrey recently told News Media that restoring Turkey to the F-35 program remains far more complicated than other defense deals because operating the Russian-made S-400 alongside America’s most advanced stealth fighter could expose sensitive U.S. technology.

“The F-35 is a different issue,” Jeffrey said, arguing that the problem is technical, not merely political.

Turkey controls the Bosporus and Dardanelles, fields NATO’s second-largest military and plays a critical role in the Black Sea following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Jeffrey said that Turkey has been “essential to Ukraine staying in the fight,” pointing to Turkey’s enforcement of the Montreux Convention, a 1936 treaty that gives Turkey control over naval passage through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits, its early delivery of Bayraktar drones to Ukraine, and its role as a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow.

“You can’t contain Russia in the Black Sea without Turkey,” Jeffrey said.

For Tol, however, Erdoğan’s latest embrace of NATO is simply another example of his political flexibility.

“There was a time when he was very anti-Western, very critical of NATO, very critical of the United States,” she said.

“And now look at him.”

Anti-Erdogan protests

Human Rights Watch argues Erdoğan has used Turkey’s growing importance to NATO as political cover while expanding pressure on journalists, activists and opposition figures.

Freedom House says Erdoğan has become “increasingly authoritarian” over the past decade, consolidating power through constitutional changes and the imprisonment of political opponents, independent journalists and civil society figures.

Turkey’s prisons held more than 420,000 inmates — far exceeding their official capacity of roughly 304,000, according to a June 2026 report citing Turkish Justice Ministry figures.

NATO allies have grown quieter on Turkey’s rights record as Ankara’s strategic value has risen, Reuters reported ahead of the summit, with former U.S. Ambassador David Satterfield saying it remains important for the West to speak publicly about the “degradation of democratic institutions in Turkey.”

Tol believes Erdoğan’s domestic agenda can be understood through a single principle.

“Everything is designed to keep him in power,” she said. “Beyond that, I don’t see a binding ideology that brings together all his policies.”

As Trump heads to Turkey, that may be the key to understanding one of NATO’s most consequential — and unpredictable — leaders.
