NYPD Officers Face Holiday Pay Delays as July 4th Looms

0

The timing couldn’t be worse, according to critics.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s office has announced a delay in the holiday pay for NYPD officers, just as they prepare for extended 12-hour shifts amidst a sweltering heatwave and a packed schedule of summer events around the Fourth of July, The Post has verified.

Communications from city officials to union leaders indicate that officers will receive their holiday paychecks in the third week of July this year, a departure from the previous practice of issuing them in the second week. This information comes from an email sent by Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry to union members.

“This action not only breaches our contractual rights but also shows disrespect towards PBA members working tirelessly in severe heat to fulfill extraordinary security obligations during the upcoming holiday weekend,” states Hendry in a message dated Wednesday, which The Post has reviewed.

Hendry added, “The PBA intends to file a grievance to prevent the City from postponing these holiday payments, and we are committed to using all available options to hold the current administration accountable for neglecting our members’ support needs.”

Union leaders filed the grievance Wednesday with the NYPD’s office of labor relations, sources said.

NYPD holiday checks vary based on where an officer sit on the pay scale, but members at a basic level would get nearly $2,800, according to sources.

A similar delay unfolded in January with that month’s holiday check shortly after Mamdani took office, according to Hendry’s email.

Officials at that time contended the delay was necessary because the city’s payroll office needed to update its systems to deal with new tax requirements, the email states.

The grievance could go to arbitration if not corrected, sources said.

“This time, the City has offered no excuse for the delay,” Hendry’s email states.

Thousands of uniformed officers working 12-hour shifts will be deployed across the city leading up to — and including — the Fourth of July holiday, Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during a joint news conference Wednesday.

The events start with Taylor Swift’s and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding Friday, followed the International Naval and Aviation Review, Parade of Sails and traditional Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks on Saturday.

They’ll continue Sunday with the Round of 16 World Cup match between Brazil and Norway at MetLife Stadium.

City Hall and NYPD officials didn’t immediately return requests for comment.

Investigator Suggests Public Collaboration May Uncover Mysteries Surrounding Nancy Guthrie Case

0

Over a span of more than 21 weeks following the alleged kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, significant progress was made when the FBI and Google managed to recover crucial footage from a Nest doorbell camera. Despite this breakthrough and the detention and subsequent release of two men without charges, as well as the thorough investigation of thousands of leads, her location remains a mystery.

Herman Weisberg, once a detective with the NYPD and now a renowned private investigator, remains hopeful that a single phone call could still unlock the case.

“Patience is absolutely essential in this field,” stated Weisberg, who now leads at New York’s SAGE Intelligence. “You might find yourself making that 7,000th phone call with a coffee overload, but the next call—7,001—could finally bring the necessary breakthrough.” He insisted that persistence could unveil that critical piece of information.

As the probe stretches past the 150-day mark with fewer updates from officials, Weisberg emphasizes that the overwhelming public fascination with the case might ultimately serve as a pivotal resource for those conducting the investigation.

“The awareness that comes with a high-profile crime like this should be an advantage in solving it,” he told News Media.

Weisberg points to cases like that of Gabby Petito, where ordinary citizens reviewing their own dashcam footage provided the breakthrough investigators needed to find her remains in a remote Wyoming campground.

Other cases solved with help from the public include the Boston Marathon bombing, where tipsters reported the movements of the Tsarnaev brothers after the deadly attack, and the abduction of Elizabeth Smart, who was abducted as a teenager and rescued after attentive Utah residents recognized her suspected kidnappers from news coverage of the case and called police.

“Crowdsourcing wins cases these days, you know, all the armchair sleuths and the true crime fans that are out there,” Weisberg said. “Maybe one of them is like what I always say, is the one that looks outside their window and said, ‘That’s strange, that car’s been parked out there too long. It’s got Arizona plates.’ You know, it’s a stolen car. Get the police to come.”

While he said he’s surprised that digital forensics haven’t solved the case already, not everything goes investigators’ way.

“Actually, I’m pretty shocked that this case didn’t come down to technology,” he said. “A perfect example is that Kohberger case in Idaho. Technology was the case breaker for them, but anything can happen in a case like this. I think the old expression, three can keep a secret if two are dead. If this was a solo perpetrator of this crime, we lose a big advantage of somebody else being able to point the finger here. Whatever it is, my personal idea on this is it was a crime that went very wrong from the beginning. We didn’t have some of the advantages, some of investigative opportunities there because this didn’t play out the way that the perpetrator intended it to.”

On the other hand, Weisberg said, as in the Kohberger case, there’s a strong chance that investigators are farther along than the public is aware.

“They could be working on a lead right now,” he said. And if that doesn’t work out, investigators and the Guthrie family are still asking for tips from the public.

There are combined rewards of more than $1.2 million for information in the Guthrie case, including $1 million from the family for information that leads to her recovery.

Her daughter, “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, is asking anyone with information on Guthrie’s case to dial 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Fiancée Accused in Tragic Child Deaths and Self-Harm as Man Arrives Home

A grieving father came home to a harrowing scene, discovering his fiancée had allegedly killed their two young children before attempting to end her own life, as shared by a close friend.

Tim Harris, 38, stumbled upon this tragic scene upon entering their residence in Kenton, Tennessee, on June 13, reported by Hailey Wilson to WREG.

Inside, he found his one-year-old daughter, Landrie Harris, and 11-year-old McKenna Young, both lifeless, with apparent gunshot wounds.

Also at the scene was Tim’s fiancée, the children’s mother, Jessica Quarles, 32. She was suffering from what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds and was transported to a hospital where she remains in critical condition, authorities reported.

Jessica was formally charged on Monday at the Obion County Jail with two counts of first-degree premeditated murder.

Tim and Jessica shared Landrie together. McKenna wasn’t his biological daughter, but he treated her as his own, Wilson said.

‘They were close. Some people, you know, were born to be parents, and he was definitely one of those,’ she added.

McKenna was autistic, had epilepsy, and Fragile X syndrome, an intellectual and developmental disability, according to Jessica’s Facebook.

Harris said Tim will forever have the gruesome image of his deceased daughters in his head and he will never understand why Jessica allegedly took their lives.

‘He didn’t expect it at all. You know, we’ve had conversations, and there wasn’t anything that led him to believe that she was capable of anything like that.

‘You know, she was crazy about him, and he was her too. I never would have imagined this,’ she explained.

Wilson said she believes it is important for people not to jump to conclusions over what might have sparked the deadly attack.

‘Maybe this is just a reminder when things like this come out. You know, wait until you know the facts, or wait until, you know, something’s been released before making speculations of what can happen because this, you know, there are, this is someone’s life,’ she stated.

It’s unclear what led to the crime, but Tim took to Facebook after she was arrested, and bashed her for what she allegedly did to their children.

He shared her mugshot, and stated: ‘This is the face of pure evil. Please help me make her famous for what she done to my girls!!’

Tim, who shares an older son with his ex-wife, has been left to pick up the pieces after losing nearly all of his family members.

Wilson has launched a GoFundMe page to help support him during this time, as he has taken time off from work while he grieves his children.

‘The pain and uncertainty of moving forward has taken a tremendous toll on Tim, and as he prepares to bury his children and face a life without them, he needs support from his community more than ever,’ Wilson wrote.

She continued: ‘The loss of a child is hard enough, and being off work and facing medical expenses only makes it harder. Thank you for considering a gift to support Tim as he navigates the days ahead.’

As of Wednesday morning, more than $6,000 had been raised for the distraught father.

Adventurous Duo Conquers Empire State Building Climb

0

A pair of masked daredevils climbed to the top of the Empire State Building with a protest banner on Wednesday, before one dropped to a knee for a dramatic proposal. Angela Nikolau, 33, and Vanya Beerkus, 32, a Russian couple who have starred in a Netflix documentary, scaled the spire of the New York City landmark, which reaches a staggering 1,454 feet. As they clung on, the daredevils flew a banner which read: 'When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.' The message appeared to be a modified quote from British politician William Gladstone, and is often misattributed to the rock star Jimi Hendrix . After flying the banner at around noon, the climbers began to descend just after 12.30pm, before reaching a lower platform where Beerkus dropped down to one knee and proposed.

In a daring and romantic display, two masked adventurers scaled the heights of the Empire State Building with a protest banner on Wednesday. The couple, Angela Nikolau, 33, and Vanya Beerkus, 32, hailing from Russia and known for their appearance in a Netflix documentary, ascended the towering New York City spire rising to a whopping 1,454 feet. As they clung to the pinnacle, they unfurled a banner declaring, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.” This message, seemingly adapted from a quote by British politician William Gladstone and often incorrectly attributed to rock legend Jimi Hendrix, flew until noon. Following their sky-high declaration, the climbers descended around 12:30 pm, with Beerkus pausing to propose on a lower platform.

Nikolau appeared to say 'Yes' to the astonishing proposal, as a helicopter circling the building captured the couple embracing and they removed their masks to share a kiss. The influencer posted a video of herself on top of the Empire State Building at around midday. The stunt couple, who are known for climbing skyscrapers, starred in the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story. Nikolau has posted herself scaling tall buildings and performing hair-raising acts while donning a black cat face covering. She is often videoed and pictured atop the terrifyingly tall buildings with musician Beerkus.

To the astonishment of onlookers, Nikolau accepted the heart-stopping proposal as a helicopter buzzed around them capturing the memorable moment. The couple pulled off their masks to share a kiss, sealing their sky-high engagement. Nikolau, an influencer known for her daredevil antics atop skyscrapers, shared a video of the duo atop the Empire State Building around midday. Featured in the 2024 Netflix documentary “Skywalkers: A Love Story,” Nikolau frequently showcases her thrilling climbs, often accompanied by musician Beerkus, while wearing her signature black cat mask.

Nikolau posted a series of photos of the pair not long after the ordeal, including a photo of the proposal and her flashy new diamond ring. The New York City Police Department were seen reporting to the scene and the pair were taken into custody at around 1pm, CBS News reported. Sources told the outlet that the pair may faces charges including trespassing and reckless endangerment. Tourists and onlookers were seen gazing up in astonishment at the scene unfolding above them, as the Empire State Building's observation deck was quickly cleared.

Nikolau later shared a series of pictures from their breathtaking escapade, including a shot of Beerkus proposing and a glimpse of her sparkling diamond engagement ring. The NYPD swiftly arrived at the scene, detaining the couple by around 1 pm, according to CBS News. The daring duo might face charges such as trespassing and reckless endangerment. Down below, tourists and spectators watched in awe as the scene above unfolded, prompting the swift evacuation of the Empire State Building’s observation deck.

Julie Morris, who saw the scene unfold, told the outlet: 'We were right at the top. I could see two people open the gates - the mesh gates - they opened the gates, and they went up to the top. 'I just assumed they were allowed up there.' On the street below the iconic building, police had taped off the area and closed the street.

Julie Morris, an eyewitness to the scene, shared her perspective with the media: “We were right at the top. I saw two individuals open the gates—the mesh gates—they opened them and went up. I just thought they had permission to be there.” Meanwhile, street-level chaos ensued, with police cordoning off the area and closing the street in the shadow of the iconic landmark.

Tamra Judge Shares Details on Shannon Beador’s Reaction After Restaurant Declines to Cover $540 Bill with Andy Cohen and RHOC Crew

Tamra Judge Reveals Shannon Beador Had a "Meltdown" After The Quiet Woman Restaurant Failed to Comp Her $540 Tab With Andy Cohen & RHOC Cast

Credit: Instagram

Tamra Judge recently claimed on Jeff Lewis‘ podcast that Shannon Beador experienced a “meltdown” at The Quiet Woman, a popular eatery in Corona Del Mar, California.

The restaurant, a familiar backdrop on The Real Housewives of Orange County, hosted Shannon, 62, along with Andy Cohen, 58, and their fellow cast members. During the visit, Shannon allegedly became upset when the establishment declined to cover the cost of their meal.

“Shannon was mad that The Quiet Woman didn’t pick up the check,” Jeff, 56, explained to Tamra, 58, during the June 24 episode of his show, Jeff Lewis Has Issues.

“Oh, Shannon had a meltdown. Oh yeah,” Tamra confirmed.

Then, after it was noted that Shannon had brought tons of press to the restaurant over the past several seasons and likely deserved to have her meal comped, Tamra admitted to confronting the owner with that information.

“I actually told the owner that because Shannon was just really upset because she says she feels like Bravo has put them on the map, and the bill wasn’t even that high. It was like $540 or something like that. We only had apps and drinks,” she explained. “I had to tell them, I’m like, ‘Listen, Shannon just feels like she’s come in here and she’s filmed here, and we’ve all filmed here, and she hasn’t even got a free meal, ever, and doesn’t ask.”

After the discussion, Tamra revealed that the owner decided to pay for Shannon, Andy, and her RHOC castmates who were present.

“[They] said, ‘We’ll reverse the charges.’ And they did. But Shannon didn’t stop,” Tamra recalled. “[But] her message was right. She wasn’t wrong about it.”

When it was all said and done, Tamra confirmed that Shannon seemed to have some regrets in regard to how she behaved.

“She even said this morning when she was here. She’s like, ‘Maybe I overreacted a little bit.’ But that’s okay. That’s Shannon,” Tamra reasoned.

The Real Housewives of Orange County season 20 premieres on Thursday, July 9, at 8/7c on Bravo.

Senator Warren Demands Update from Eric Trump on Capital One De-Banking Lawsuit

0

Senator Elizabeth Warren, the leading Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, has recently reached out to Eric Trump, seeking clarification on whether the Trump family intends to proceed with legal action against Capital One. This comes after allegations surfaced claiming the bank terminated accounts connected to the Trump family, purportedly due to political motivations. Sources familiar with the matter disclosed this development to The Post.

The liberal lawmaker is inquiring if the Trump family plans to re-submit their lawsuit against Capital One before an impending deadline this month. The family had previously accused the bank of closing their accounts due to perceived “woke” political biases.

Warren’s inquiry is part of a broader investigation into Brian Johnson, a Capital One executive nominated by former President Trump to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This agency has been significantly weakened under current administration policies. Johnson’s nomination is now pending approval in the Senate.

In a letter dated Thursday, Warren addressed Eric Trump, co-director of The Trump Organization along with his brother, Don Jr. She noted, “In recent months, your father’s opinion has held considerable sway among my Republican colleagues.”

Warren emphasized the significance of understanding the Trump family’s stance on Capital One, especially given their allegations and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s potential role in addressing such de-banking concerns. These insights are deemed valuable as the committee reviews Johnson’s nomination, she added.

“It would also be helpful to understand your family’s plans, if any, to re-file the claims you brought against Capital One by Judge Altman’s July 17, 2026, deadline.”

In March 2025, the Trump family sued Capital One for allegedly de-banking hundreds of accounts in 2021 that were tied to the president’s family members and held millions of dollars.

The lawsuit claimed Capital One terminated the accounts due to “woke” beliefs that “it needed to distance itself from President Trump and his conservative political views.”

“I can’t tell you how hard it is to change more than 300 bank accounts – and for no reason whatsoever,” Eric Trump told Fox News Digital at the time. “These were hotels and golf courses, residential buildings and commercial buildings, retail outlets and skating rinks and parking garages.

“There was no political affiliation,” he added. “The only common denominator was that they wore the Trump name.”

Capital One has denied claims it shuttered Trump-linked accounts due to political discrimination.

Earlier this year, US District Judge Roy Altman granted Capital One’s request to dismiss the “deficient” lawsuit, which he said lacked specific details, but granted the Trump family a July 2, 2026, deadline to re-file the complaint. He later extended the deadline to July 17.

Warren is also investigating whether Johnson played a role in the CFPB’s decision last year to terminate a Biden-era lawsuit against Capital One, according to Bloomberg Law.

CFPB, the creation of which was first proposed by Warren, has seen sharp drops in its employees’ ranks since Trump took office.

The agency, which is meant to protect consumers in the financial sector, had about 1,200 employees at the end of January — down roughly 30% from before Trump took office.

“The CFPB has been a woke & weaponized agency against disfavored industries and individuals for a long time. This must end,” White House budget chief Russ Vought wrote last year on X.

The White House recently stepped back from plans to fire the remaining 90% of the staff, saying in April it wants to fire half, instead.

Court Denies Bond for Boyfriend Accused of Stabbing Defense Engineer 15 Times After Chilling 911 Call

In Florida, a man is facing charges for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend 15 times at their residence. He later confessed to the crime in a recorded 911 call, as reported by local media.

Kyle Sanchez, aged 35, has entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of first-degree murder involving a weapon in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 37-year-old Amanda Roark, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded to an emergency call around 3 p.m. on June 19 at a home on Tuscan Loon Drive in the Palm River vicinity, where deputies were dispatched to the scene.

Upon their arrival, deputies discovered Roark deceased with multiple injuries to her upper body. Sanchez, who was present at the scene, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives later determined Sanchez killed Roark while the two were inside the home together, according to authorities.

FOX 13 Tampa reported that Sanchez is accused of stabbing Roark 15 times. During a pretrial detention hearing, prosecutors played Sanchez’s 911 call, in which he told a dispatcher, “I murdered my girlfriend.”

After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge denied Sanchez bond. He will remain in custody as the first-degree murder case moves forward.

Authorities have not released a motive or additional details about what led up to the fatal attack.

Roark worked at SOFWERX, a Tampa-based technology organization that describes itself as “an innovation platform for the United States Special Operations Command,” which remembered her as a cherished teammate and “a light in the Tampa community.”

“We are heartbroken by the loss of our Teammate Amanda Roark,” SOFWERX said in a statement. “Amanda was a cherished member of the SOFWERX family and a light in the Tampa community. Her warmth, her dedication, and the genuine care she brought to everyone around her made a lasting impact that words cannot fully capture.”

Roark’s college friend, Talia Landman, told FOX 13 that Roark was “an absolute light” who welcomed everyone with a “gigantic smile.”

“She was taken from us in such a horrific, tragic, and just, I mean, terrible, scary way,” Landman told the station.

Landman said Roark was a talented engineer who mentored young women pursuing careers in math, technology and engineering. She told FOX 13 that she believed Roark could have had a future with NASA missions to the moon in the next decade.

“He didn’t just kill or murder his girlfriend. He took away Amanda Roark,” Landman said. “He took her life as this woman who had so much going for her.”

The sheriff’s office said the case appeared to be domestic-related.

Heartbreaking Discovery: Newborn Found Dead at Music Festival Porta Potty Was Born Alive

0

A cleanup crew at the Electric Forest music festival in Michigan made a shocking discovery when they found a newborn’s body in a portable toilet. The infant had been breathing after birth in this makeshift location.

Michigan State Police reported that on Sunday morning, during standard maintenance, an employee from the bathroom service company uncovered the body of the infant.

Authorities stated that the tragic find occurred within the camping area of the festival grounds.

According to News 8, it is believed the infant was delivered within the portable restroom, as both the placenta and umbilical cord were also found there.

The outlet confirmed that the newborn had been alive with evidence of fluid present in its lungs and stomach, indicating the child was breathing at the time of birth.

As of Tuesday, the death of the newborn has been identified as a homicide, said Michigan State Police Lt. Pat Agema.

On Wednesday, police announced that an autopsy had been completed but results could not be confirmed pending an official report.

Meanwhile, the identity of anyone who may possibly be connected to the child has not yet been announced.

After beginning on Thursday, the electronic music festival saw thousands of attendees pass through and camp out on the grounds near Lake Michigan.

One festival goer said on Reddit that they woke up to the sight of police on Sunday morning, unaware of the tragic incident just feet from their tents.

‘This happened right by us at the Electric Avenue preset tents. We got up this morning to head out of the fest and there were about six-eight cops, four cop cars and a bunch of security/EF staff parked right around two cordoned off porta potties,’ they wrote on Sunday.

‘We didn’t know what was going on but figured something bad happened… But this is horrifying. My girlfriend used those same bank of porta potties at around 6am and could’ve been unlucky enough to have gone in one of those. So sad.’

Another Reddit post, which appears to have been deleted, also indicated they had even seen the child and believed it was a doll.

‘I went into the porta potty and was about to sit down but glimpsed what was apparently an infant’s face,’ the user wrote.

‘I was confused for a second, but honestly I thought it was a doll. People always bring weird s*** to festivals and it never occurred to me it was an actual body.

‘After I read the report, it clicked… I now live with this crazy amount of guilt. Maybe if I took it seriously and reported it earlier that baby would still be alive? I’m very traumatized though and I won’t be going to any music festivals or porta potties for a long time.’

Across social media, many attendees expressed shock at the amount of pregnant festival goers they had seen over the weekend.

In a statement online, Electric Forest wrote: ‘Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you. Michigan State Police continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way. HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well.’

But another Electric Forest post at the close of the festival celebrated: ‘Another stunner.’

Users ripped into the organizers for its ‘tone deaf’ response.

‘Chance of bad weather: “we need to cancel.” Legitimate crime scene of a baby in a porta potty: “what an amazing year this was.” Really,’ one user commented.

‘You posted this before addressing the infant’s life that was lost? Please get bent,’ one user angrily commented.

Another responded: ‘No, like who is in charge of their social media?? Hoping this was a scheduled post and they aren’t intentionally ignoring making a statement.’

A third replied that the company ‘are the ones with the reach’ to help find information on the incident.

‘Tone dead EF. Oh, sorry. I mean to say tone dead AF,’ a fourth comment read.

‘Crazy how the biggest headline of this place is about a dead baby in a porta potty yet you’re like “wow another great year,” shut this s*** down forever,’ one user said.

Another slammed the company for being ‘out of touch,’ with more describing the response as ‘tone deaf.’

‘Another year another body. Sad it was a little one this year,’ another comment read.

‘Electric Trauma Forest,’ another user quipped.

Police said on X that investigators are seeking assistance from the public for any information on the incident.

The popular festival saw a number of incidents as it came to a close on Sunday, with a number of deaths, including a car crash and a suicide, as well as a missing person.

The Daily Mail reached out to Electric Forest, which asked that questions be directed to Michigan State Police.

The horrifying discovery marked yet another tragedy for the electronic music festival after a man went missing and was found to have hung himself on the grounds.

Jerard ‘Jay’ Jackson, 28, was reported missing after he was seen leaving the festival on Monday morning. At around 3.30pm on Tuesday, local authorities reported Jackson’s body had been found.

According to Michigan State Police, it appears the Illinois native took his own life with ‘no indication of foul play.’

And a car crash was linked to the festival, while a third person is said to still be missing.

Electric Forest’s 2026 lineup included over 100 artists such as ILLENIUM, Kaskade, GRiZ, and The String Cheese Incident.

Admission prices this year began at $150 for general admission and reached up to $16,100. The festival also offered activities such as arts, athletics and nature programs.

Stephanie Seymour: Navigating Two Marriages on the Path to Happiness

Even for a renowned supermodel like Stephanie Seymour, the journey of love was fraught with difficulties. Today, she enjoys a harmonious marriage with Peter Brant, her second husband, but the path to this happiness was rocky. The couple even filed for divorce at one point, adding a layer of drama to their relationship story.

Let’s rewind to Seymour’s marriage to her first husband, guitarist Tommy Andrews. Their union lasted a brief year, from 1989 to 1990, during which they welcomed their son, Dylan Thomas Andrews. Despite this milestone, the marriage was already unraveling by the time their son was born. Details around their split remain sparse, as Seymour has chosen to remain private about the cause. After the separation, Seymour’s romantic fate led her to Axl Rose, another musician renowned for his turbulent lifestyle. Recalling her relationship with Harper’s Bazaar in 2014, Seymour described it as a “clear mistake.” She elaborated, saying, “He was prone to violence, and I never wanted that in my life again. The rock ‘n’ roll allure faded as I witnessed the dark side of that world.” Their volatile relationship ended in the early ’90s. Rose later filed a lawsuit against Seymour in 1993, with his sister claiming they were engaged, but Seymour had allegedly assaulted him at a Christmas party in 1992. Through a representative, Seymour denied any engagement and expressed her desire to leave the past behind.

Eventually, Seymour discovered love anew with Peter Brant, tying the knot in 1994. The couple welcomed three children—two sons and a daughter—and outwardly enjoyed domestic bliss. Nonetheless, their relationship hit a rough patch, culminating in a filed divorce which they later reconsidered.

Stephanie Seymour’s almost-divorce played out very publicly

In 2009, Stephanie Seymour filed for divorce from Peter Brant, but far from keeping things amicable, things got ugly right from the start. For one, per the New York Post Seymour alleged Brant was going out of his way to intimidate her, even preventing her from fetching their daughter from school and changing the locks at their home in Greenwich, Connecticut. Insiders also told Page Six Seymour had to sleep in the housekeeper’s quarters, and that Brant was fighting for full custody.

The legal proceedings between Seymour and Brant became contentious, marked by mutual accusations. Brant alleged that Seymour mishandled their art collection, while Seymour claimed he left her without financial resources by cutting off her credit card. Despite these conflicts, in 2010, they withdrew the divorce petition, as revealed in a terse statement to ABC News, which simply stated, “The parties have withdrawn their divorce action.” Reflecting on the tumultuous period, Seymour told Town & Country that external pressures had exacerbated their issues. “The ‘dirty fight’ focuses on victory rather than healing,” she explained, attributing much of the conflict to legal counsel rather than their own voices. A direct conversation with Brant paved the way for open communication, where Seymour expressed, “I have faith in you and hope reciprocally, trusting that we can resolve this together.”

Brant shared Seymour’s sentiments, leading them to seek therapy and ultimately fortify their partnership. Despite enduring profound heartaches, such as the devastating death of their son, Harry Brant, the couple has remained strong together through it all.

Labor Concession on Controversial Aged Care Initiative Fails to Satisfy Critics

The federal government has decided to modify its contentious Integrated Assessment Tool (IAT) for aged care, responding to backlash from advocacy groups, aged care providers, and political figures.

Introduced in July 2024, the IAT is designed to evaluate the care needs of elderly Australians, determining who qualifies for government-funded support services.

This tool utilizes an algorithm to process survey data, automatically issuing determinations on the level of funding assistance and care priority. However, the government is now enhancing the human decision-making aspect of these assessments.

During an interview on ABC radio’s National Breakfast on Thursday, aged care minister Sam Rae explained, “In some limited circumstances, people’s complex situations don’t neatly align with the framework.”

He further emphasized, “In these rare instances, we want the system governor to have the authority to make vital decisions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for older individuals.”

“We’ve listened, and we’ve done the policy work to make sure that we get the best outcomes for older people.”

Based on the changes, “if in the assessment organisation’s clinical view the needs of the older person aren’t catered for through the tool”, then they will have the “option to escalate that to the system governor”.

Also on Thursday morning, the Coalition, Greens, and independent senator David Pocock teamed up, putting up a bill opposing IAT and asking for more human intervention in the system.

Anne Ruston, the Opposition’s health and NDIS spokesperson, told the Senate that the bill “restores a simple principle: decisions about care should be made by a qualified person, a qualified professional, not a computer algorithm with no human capacity”.

“This bill ensures the tool supports, not replaces, professional judgement,” she said.

“Minister Rae’s rapid view is a damning admission that the tool is failing, yet he has ruled out reinstating human override while only tinkering around the edges.”

Labor senator Nita Green said that “while the government shares the intent of this private senator’s bill, as it’s currently drafted, we’re not able to support its passage”.

“We’re concerned that in practice, its provisions will be counterproductive.”

The IAT has faced mounting criticism over the role of an algorithm in determining older Australians’ care priority levels, and whether there is enough scope for human judgement when the system gets it wrong.

In June, SBS News interviewed Lynne Meehan, whose 91-year-old father, John Wilson, was diagnosed with sepsis last year and needed aged-care support. Although the tool approved him for a Level 7 package, it classified him as low priority, leaving him facing a 10-month wait. Wilson died in late April, three weeks before his funding came through.

As of March 2026, 989 people have requested a review of their outcome, up from 178 in the 2024-25 financial year under the old system. Of the 606 finalised cases, 132 needed reassessing.
