Young 49ers Fan Invites Maxx Crosby to Make the Move to San Francisco

0

A young and enthusiastic fan of the San Francisco 49ers seized a unique opportunity when she came face-to-face with Raiders’ All-Pro defensive end, Maxx Crosby.

The fan boldly asked Crosby if he could consider a trade to the 49ers, a request that left the player momentarily at a loss for words.

“Bruh, I literally made a post about you a few weeks ago,” the young fan exclaimed as she encountered Crosby at a meet-and-greet event. “I’ve got to ask on behalf of the faithful—will you please come to the 49ers?”

Crosby seemed taken aback by the unexpected question, clearly not anticipating such a direct request from a young supporter.

Responding to the fan, Crosby paused, shook his head, and laughed, saying, “I can’t. I can’t.” He appreciated her enthusiasm and added, “You never know. You’re the best, though,” recognizing her dedication.

Crosby went on to give the young fan a high-five for her efforts in recruiting him to the 49ers.

This offseason, Crosby has been caught in the crossfire of trade rumors.

In March, Crosby was reportedly being traded to the Ravens, but Baltimore ended up pulling out of the deal after they claimed he “failed his physical”, forcing Crosby to return to the Raiders.

Since then, Crosby and the Raiders have been focused on mending the relationship between him and the Raiders, and have been focused on putting the trade behind him.

Even with Crosby hoping to put the trade rumors behind him, the rumors of him getting moved before the 2026 NFL Season have continued to follow.

The 49ers have been one of the most aggressive pursuers to land Crosby this offseason, as they are looking to add another star edge rusher to pair up with Nick Bosa.

In a division that features the reigning Super Bowl champions in the Seattle Seahawks and the favorites to win next year’s Super Bowl in the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers need all the help they can get.

If they can somehow pull off a blockbuster trade that sends Crosby from Vegas to San Francisco, the 49ers would have a case to be considered Super Bowl contenders.

Drone Sightings Surge at JFK: Helicopter Reports Close Call After JetBlue Incident

0

On Monday afternoon, a helicopter pilot reportedly encountered a possible drone near New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. This marks the second occurrence of such an incident at the airport that day.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), “A pilot operating a helicopter in close proximity to John F. Kennedy International Airport reported that a remote-controlled aircraft flew near their helicopter.”

This helicopter sighting followed an earlier event where a JetBlue pilot reported potentially hitting a drone as the plane prepared to land at JFK.

In response, JFK’s air traffic control issued alerts to nearby pilots about an unauthorized drone operating in restricted airspace, as reported by ATIS.guru, an online platform that captures live digital communications from airports worldwide.

According to the warning, a “red and white” remote-controlled airplane was spotted flying at roughly 4:05 p.m. local time.

It was observed at an altitude of 500 feet, placing it within the typical flight path of low-flying commercial aircraft approaching the airport, according to the ATIS warning.

The sighting was also reported about 1 mile from the Canarsie (CRI) navigation beacon, a key waypoint used by aircraft lining up to land at JFK.

It is unclear whether the two cases are related.

The FAA notified local authorities about the report.

Flying a remote-controlled aircraft or drone near a major airport is illegal and poses a serious safety risk to aircraft operating in the area, according to the agency.

Earlier Monday morning, a JetBlue flight struck a drone at approximately 3,000 feet roughly 10 miles from JFK, the FAA said.

Air traffic audio recordings indicate the encounter occurred above the cockpit.

The flight landed without incident, and a post-flight inspection did not reveal any damage to the aircraft, JetBlue said.

Dianna Russini Caught on Video Using NFL Coach’s Name to Avoid Ticket

0

Recently surfaced bodycam footage captures the awkward incident where Dianna Russini attempts to avoid a traffic ticket by mentioning Kevin O’Connell of the Minnesota Vikings to a police officer.

Contrary to claims she made on a podcast earlier this year, the video does not display any evidence of a FaceTime call between O’Connell and the officer during the exchange.

The video, which runs a little over seven minutes, opens with the officer’s approach to Russini’s vehicle on a snowy day.

Russini explains, ‘I’m an NFL reporter, and I just broke the news of Sean McDermott being fired from the Bills. That’s why I was on my phone—to send a tweet. I planned to pull over because I have to make calls. I know this isn’t your concern, but I wanted you to understand my situation.’

The officer replies, pointing out, ‘You were obviously on your phone for a while… I do understand the demands of your job.’

Then, Russini interrupts and says she was on the phone to former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll before asking the officer if he’s a fan of the Giants or Jets.

That is when the officer tells her he is a Vikings fan, which prompts Russini to show what looks like a text exchange with O’Connell before telling the officer that Minnesota’s quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, ‘sucks’.

After going to his vehicle to check over Russini’s documentation, the officer returns and says to her: ‘I’m gonna cut you a break on the cellphone. I understand your job requires you to be on the phone a lot. Just try to wait ’til you get home, OK?’

The Daily Mail has contacted the Minnesota Vikings for comment.

Back in February, Russini revealed on ‘Stugotz and Company’ that she was pulled over by police weeks before for texting while driving with her two young sons in the car.

She claimed she told the officer she was using her phone because the Buffalo Bills had just fired head coach Sean McDermott and she was trying to report the news.

But, she added, she managed to prevent a ticket by getting the head coach of the police officer’s favorite team to speak with him on FaceTime.

It is another desperately embarrassing episode for the former NFL insider, whose world was turned upside down by her affair scandal with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

An investigation into Russini and Vrabel’s alleged relationship was published by the New York Times on June 24.

Not only did it detail how Russini was paid close to $800,000-a-year by the New York Times-owned Athletic before her career collapsed, but it also included comments from her that she wanted to remain private.

However, it also told the story of how bosses at The Athletic were unhappy with her for sharing the story of her allegedly using her relationship with O’Connell to get out of a driving ticket.

‘So he names the team [that he is a fan of] and I go, “Oh, I love that team. Do you want to talk to the coach? You should talk to the coach”,’ Russini claimed on the podcast.

She said she immediately FaceTimed the coach, who ‘played all into it’ and told the officer ‘you should let her go, she’s a good citizen.’

Russini admitted she was ‘desperate’ in the moment because ‘I don’t want to get a ticket. My husband is going to kill me.’

She continued: ‘I’m texting and driving. I shouldn’t be doing that I know that… I [called] a coach to get out of a ticket. Like what a nasty play but it worked.’

Danielle Rhoades Ha, a Times Company spokeswoman, called it ‘unacceptable conduct’, while it later emerged that Russini also never asked or received permission to go on that podcast, which was required.

Glenwood Resident Dylan Perkins Fatally Shot by Delivery Driver in Matteson, Authorities Report

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — A tragic incident unfolded Sunday night at an Amazon facility in Matteson, where a food delivery driver fatally shot an employee, as confirmed by a spokesperson from Matteson.

Police were alerted around 10:54 p.m. following reports of gunfire at the Amazon site located at 7001 Vollmer Road.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Upon arrival, officers discovered the Amazon worker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The employee was swiftly transported to Olympia Fields Hospital, also known locally as St. James Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, authorities reported.

According to police, testimony from witnesses and footage from surveillance cameras revealed that the victim and another employee got into a dispute with the suspect, identified as a food delivery driver, in the parking lot, which escalated into a physical confrontation.

Following the altercation, the delivery driver fired several gunshots at the Amazon employee, resulting in his death, police stated.

“From that altercation, three to four shots were fired; the employee died,” Matteson spokesperson Sean Howard said.

The victim has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as 26-year-old Dylan Perkins of Glenwood.

Police put the massive Amazon facility on lockdown after the shooting.

An Amazon spokesperson said in a statement, “We’re saddened by this senseless act of violence and are focused on supporting our employees and the victim’s family during this difficult time. We’re working with the Matteson Police Department in their active investigation.”

Amazon said the employee was a third-party vendor.

Perkins’ mother said he was a caring big-hearted, fun-loving mama’s boy.

He was a big White Sox fan, and worked as a contract employee cleaning the facility.

There have been violent incidents at the Amazon location in the past.

In 2024, a woman suffered a graze wound after shots were fired apparently in retaliation for a fight the night before.

“Our good partner Amazon, they have a wonderful security and professional operation there. We’re working in collaboration to insure we can find out how this happened,” Howard said.

Matteson police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are working to identify the suspect. They said there is no threat to the public.

ABC7 Chicago was told officials believe they are close to making an arrest in the case.

Chair Exercises to Slim Down Waistlines Faster Than Traditional Gym Routines for Those Over 50

0

Is that waistband feeling tighter after 50? Discover four effective chair exercises that specifically target your core.

>

As we age, particularly past the age of 50, noticing a larger waistline can become quite common — even if your diet and exercise habits haven’t shifted. Factors such as muscle degeneration, decreased physical activity, and prolonged sedentary periods all contribute to this change around the abdomen. In my experience as a trainer, I’ve guided numerous individuals who initially believed hefty gym sessions were essential to slim down their waists. However, it’s often the consistent engagement in movement and specific muscle activation that results in more sustainable improvements than sporadic intense exercise routines.

A prevalent error is focusing solely on burning calories while overlooking the importance of muscle activation. Developing strength in the core, hips, and upper body can dramatically enhance posture, boost everyday activity levels, and lay a stronger groundwork for all movements. Although no exercise can directly zap fat from a specific area, fortifying the muscles around your midriff and trunk can gradually lead to a firmer and more defined look. Consistent, modest efforts almost always outperform the occasional intense workout burst.

Throughout my career, I’ve assisted adults over 50 in enhancing strength, flexibility, and overall body composition without dedicating countless hours to the gym. Chair exercises prove particularly effective because they eliminate many obstacles that people often face, encouraging consistent exercise participation. These exercises focus on the key muscles necessary for a robust midsection and cater to a variety of fitness levels. Incorporate them into your routine weekly, prioritizing movement quality rather than speed.

Cross-Body Knee Lifts

Whenever I want clients to engage their abdominal muscles while improving coordination and mobility, I often start with seated cross-body knee lifts. The crossing pattern encourages the obliques to work harder than traditional seated marching while also activating the hip flexors and deep core stabilizers. Many adults notice that their midsection feels more engaged during this movement because the torso must resist excessive twisting while the arms and legs work together. I like using this exercise because it combines cardiovascular activity with core training, helping clients stay active without placing unnecessary stress on their joints. Consistent practice strengthens the muscles that support better posture and a tighter waistline.

How to Do It

  • Sit tall near the front of a sturdy chair.
  • Lift your right knee.
  • Reach your left hand toward the raised knee.
  • Return to the starting position.
  • Alternate sides in a smooth rhythm.
  • Continue for 30 to 60 seconds.

6 Standing Exercises for a Stronger, Leaner Core After 50

Seated Oblique Crunch

The muscles running along the sides of the torso play a major role in shaping the waist and supporting spinal stability. Unfortunately, many people neglect them in favor of traditional abdominal exercises that focus only on the front of the body. This seated variation allows you to challenge the obliques safely while maintaining support from the chair. I frequently recommend it to clients who want a more defined midsection without getting down on the floor. The movement feels simple, but the muscles along the sides of the waist quickly begin working when performed with control and proper form.

How to Do It

  • Sit upright with your hands behind your head.
  • Lift your right knee toward your right elbow.
  • Bring the elbow and knee toward one another.
  • Return slowly to the starting position.
  • Complete 10 to 12 repetitions.
  • Repeat on the opposite side.

Seated Lean-Back Hold

One of the most effective ways to strengthen the deep abdominal muscles involves resisting movement rather than creating it. That’s exactly why I regularly include seated lean-back holds in core routines for adults over 50. The exercise challenges the entire trunk to stabilize while encouraging better posture and muscular endurance. Clients often underestimate how demanding it feels until they hold the position for several seconds. Over time, stronger core endurance supports better movement patterns throughout the day and helps create a firmer, stronger midsection.

How to Do It

  • Sit near the front edge of a chair.
  • Place your feet firmly on the floor.
  • Cross your arms over your chest.
  • Lean back slightly while keeping your spine neutral.
  • Hold for 10 to 20 seconds.
  • Repeat 5 to 8 times.

5 Chair Exercises That Restore All-Day Energy Better Than Coffee After 60

Seated Torso Rotations

Rotational strength often declines with age, yet everyday activities constantly require the body to twist, reach, and turn. Seated torso rotations help restore mobility while strengthening the muscles that wrap around the waist. I frequently use this movement because it encourages controlled rotation without excessive stress on the lower back. Many clients report feeling looser through their midsection and upper body after just a few repetitions. Combined with regular walking and strength training, rotational work helps create a stronger, more functional core that supports better posture and movement.

How to Do It

  • Sit tall with your feet flat on the floor.
  • Cross your arms over your chest.
  • Rotate your torso slowly to one side.
  • Return to the center.
  • Rotate toward the opposite side.
  • Perform 10 to 15 repetitions per side.

Alex Murdaugh Anxiously Awaits as New Trial Date is Announced

0

In a dramatic court appearance that captured public attention, Alex Murdaugh faced the spotlight once more, displaying a visibly anxious demeanor. This marked his first courtroom presence since having his murder convictions vacated and being granted a retrial for the tragic killings of his wife and son.

Within the confines of Lexington County Court, South Carolina, on a bustling Monday, the former attorney—towering and restrained in conspicuous bright orange prison attire—observed intently. The proceedings unfolded as both prosecution and defense engaged in rigorous debates over evidence, while Murdaugh awaited the announcement of his new trial date.

Judge Debra McCaslin declared April 5, 2027, as the scheduled date for the retrial, cautioning both legal teams that any postponement would require substantial justification.

The hearing pulled in a crowd of journalists and true crime aficionados who watched eagerly as contentious issues were argued, including the handling of DNA evidence, the location of the retrial, Murdaugh’s laptop access, and the dress code mandated for his court appearances.

Back in 2023, his murder trial epitomized the spectacular downfall of a man who once stood as the heir to a formidable legal dynasty. This dynasty had reigned over South Carolina’s 14th Judicial Circuit with power and influence spanning nearly a century.

On June 7, 2021, his wife Maggie, 52, and son Paul, 22, were shot dead at the dog kennels on the family’s sprawling 1,700-acre Moselle estate in Islandton, South Carolina.

The double murders went on to expose an unraveling web of crimes and scandals circling the now-58-year-old disgraced attorney, including multi-million-dollar fraud schemes, a botched hitman plot and links to several other mysterious deaths.

Murdaugh was charged with the murders and went on trial in the spring of 2023.

For six weeks, the Lowcountry’s so-called ‘trial of the century’ transfixed the nation, with thousands of spectators flocking to the small courthouse in Colleton County while the rest of the nation tuned in to watch proceedings gavel-to-gavel live on TV.

Murdaugh was convicted of the murders but continues to claim his innocence to this day.

In May, the South Carolina Supreme Court overturned his convictions and ordered a second trial, after finding that Murdaugh’s right to a fair trial was violated because then-Colleton County Court Clerk Becky Hill tampered with the jury.

During Monday’s hearing, the judge heard arguments regarding multiple motions that the defense had filed in recent days, including seeking the testing of DNA evidence found under Maggie’s fingernails and requesting a change in venue for his second trial.

Secret signs of a killer – can YOU spot them?

I’m Rachel Sharp, US Editor of The Crime Desk. In my years covering America’s darkest cases, I’ve learned how killers can give the game away long before they’re caught…

When murderers pretend to ‘grieve’ the loss of loves ones in front of the cameras, experts see the cracks in these performances. We reveal the subtle signs that most people miss.

Defense attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin claim that DNA from an unknown, unrelated man was found under Maggie’s left-hand fingernails but was never tested during the original investigation.

Griffin said that the DNA is ‘positively not Alex Murdaugh’s or any other folks who they took buccal swabs from.’

The defense needs the DNA evidence so it can be sent to genetic genealogy lab Othram for testing. Such testing by the private lab can take ‘considerable time,’ the defense has argued, meaning a rush order is needed to get the process in motion.

Griffin said the DNA technology they are seeking ‘didn’t exist in 2021’ and explained how Othram famously identified Bryan Kohberger as the perpetrator of the University of Idaho murders.

Prosecutor Creighton Waters didn’t oppose the testing but branded the DNA evidence a ‘red herring.’

‘There’s absolutely no evidence that Maggie Murdaugh was in a struggle with anyone, that she had any sort of defensive wounds, that she was scratched from any sort of attacker,’ he said.

He also pointed out that it is ‘very common to have touch DNA’ on the hands from general day-to-day interactions.

Griffin pushed back, saying that there was a shell casing under Maggie’s body and her cell phone was missing – signs that he claimed could suggest some sort of struggle.

‘We don’t think it’s a red herring. We think it’s very important,’ Griffin said.

The defense team also said that they can’t be sure if they have received all the evidence in the case due to potential issues with evidence collected at the scene.

‘We don’t know what we don’t know,’ Harpootlian said. ‘We don’t have what we don’t have.’

Harpootlian also pointed to interviews some members of law enforcement had given in the aftermath of Murdaugh’s conviction and sentencing, arguing it differed to what they testified to at trial and raising questions about the strength of the investigation.

In particular, he pointed to comments speculating that Murdaugh ‘had some help’ cleaning up and disposing of evidence after the shootings.

He also revealed that a number of people have approached the defense team with information about the case, including what he described as ‘extraordinary evidence’ linking Paul’s murder and the murder of Stephen Smith. Nursing student Smith was found dead by the side of a road in Hampton County – close to the Murdaugh estate – in 2015. His murder remains unsolved.

The state and defense also argued about Murdaugh’s request to appear unshackled and in civilian clothes at his upcoming court dates and trial.

Murdaugh’s lawyers had filed a motion on the matter last week, before swiftly withdrawing it when the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office fired back that Murdaugh ‘thinks he is special’ but should be treated the same as any other convicted felon on trial.

During the hearing, Murdaugh’s defense revived their request for him to wear civilian clothes, accusing the state of ‘parading him around in a jumpsuit and shackles like an animal.’

Asking Murdaugh to stand up in the courtroom to show off his attire, Harpootlian pointed out that he is chained around the waist, hands and feet and argued he is not a dangerous serial killer. ‘This is not Ted Bundy,’ he said.

Waters said it is policy in South Carolina for a convicted inmate to appear in court in prison clothing and shackles, reminding the court that he is serving a 27-year state sentence for financial crimes.

The judge will rule on this at a later date, she said.

There was also debate around Murdaugh’s request to have a laptop inside the prison so that the former attorney can review the evidence in his case.

The Murdaugh family's 1,700-acre Moselle estate where Maggie and Paul were shot dead

The Murdaugh family’s 1,700-acre Moselle estate where Maggie and Paul were shot dead

Waters pointed out that the South Carolina Department of Corrections does not allow inmates to have devices in prison. Not only is it a security risk, he said, but Murdaugh has already been reprimanded for breaking rules while behind bars.

Murdaugh rocked in his chair and muttered something to Griffin at Waters’s remarks.

Despite the defense’s claims that Murdaugh is facing ‘prejudice’ from the state, the judge said that Murdaugh cannot have a laptop in his prison cell. But she said she had arranged with the prison that Murdaugh can have access to a conference room to review the discovery in the presence of his team.

‘I want him to have all his discovery. He’s entitled to it. It’s safety concerns,’ the judge said.

One thing the two sides did appear to come to some common ground on was discussions around moving the trial to another location.

The defense wants it to be moved far away from Colleton County where Murdaugh’s first trial took place – and where Hill, the person whose actions prompted the retrial, worked as the elected clerk of court.

Murdaugh’s attorneys argued that the intense spotlight on the case in the local areas means that he would not be able to receive a fair and impartial trial there.

As well as Colleton County, Murdaugh’s team also want to exclude the other four counties that make up South Carolina’s 14th Judicial Circuit – Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper – ‘where the Murdaugh name has been synonymous with the local legal system for nearly a century.’

The Murdaugh family including his surviving son Buster (second left) put on a united front during the trial

Three generations of the Murdaugh family held the position of elected 14th Circuit Solicitor for 86 years from 1920 until 2006, when his father Randy stood down from the role.

The defense and prosecution said that they are discussing together a potential course of action for the trial location.

While some of those matters will be decided at a later date, Murdaugh’s second trial is already shaping up to look somewhat different to the first.

As part of the state Supreme Court’s ruling, the justices ruled that the scope of evidence related to Murdaugh’s financial crimes should be more limited a second time around.

During the first trial, jurors had heard from multiple law firm colleagues, clients and close friends of Murdaugh who testified that he had stolen millions of dollars from them.

He would later plead guilty to a string of state and federal financial crimes and was handed 27-year and 40-year sentences.

This financial crime evidence played a crucial part in laying out the prosecution’s motive for the double homicide.

Prosecutors argued that Murdaugh’s financial crimes were on the brink of being exposed and so he murdered his wife and son to distract from his growing problems.

His law firm partners had confronted him about missing money on the morning of the murders. And his finances were coming under intense scrutiny in a lawsuit brought by the family of Mallory Beach, a 19-year-old girl killed in a boat crash caused by Paul.

A hearing in the suit was set for three days after the murders.

A damning cell phone video captured by Paul moments before his death and car data were also key evidence in the state’s case – used to prove that Murdaugh lied about his alibi and that he was at the crime scene around the time the murders took place.

Following the murders, other mysterious deaths tied to the prominent family also fell under the spotlight.

In 2019, Paul was charged with causing a boat crash that resulted in the death of his friend, 19-year-old Mallory Beach, and was awaiting trial at the time of his murder.

Prior to this, the family’s housekeeper Gloria Satterfield died in a mysterious trip-and-fall accident at the Murdaugh estate.

The family’s name was also linked, without any evidence, to an unsolved homicide of gay teen Stephen Smith in 2015.

Three months after the murders, Murdaugh then allegedly tried to hire a hitman, his distant cousin, Curtis ‘Cousin Eddie’ Smith, to stage his own botched shooting in order to secure a life insurance windfall for his surviving son Buster.

Murdaugh remains behind bars in a maximum security prison in South Carolina where he is serving his sentences for his financial crimes.

Murdaugh will return to court in Lexington County on August 14 for his next pre-trial hearing.

Australians Affected by Venezuela Earthquake as Gold Coast Firefighter Joins Rescue Efforts

0

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has confirmed that a minimum of seven Australians were impacted by the catastrophic earthquake in Venezuela. On-site, a firefighter from the Gold Coast, assisting in the rescue efforts, painted a picture of chaotic and hectic scenes.

During a conversation with ABC News Breakfast on Tuesday, Wong revealed that those Australians affected by the quake are being provided consular aid by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The calamity has triggered an extensive rescue mission, with teams comprising local responders and international volunteers combing through the rubble of collapsed structures in the search for survivors.

One of those dedicated to the search efforts is Craig De Meillon, an Australian-raised volunteer firefighter, who embarked on a journey to Venezuela following news of the earthquakes.

Originally from South Africa but having spent his formative years on the Gold Coast, De Meillon was preparing to watch the Socceroos face Paraguay on Friday from his residence in Miami, Florida, when he received news of the significant quakes.

He said he immediately messaged his boss, and arranged to travel to Venezuela and help with the rescue effort.

“I was like, ‘Hey, is it cool if I take leave? Because I’m going to go do this whole save the world thing,'” De Meillon told SBS News over the phone from Caraballeda, the capital of the worst-affected La Guaira state.

The twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Thursday have killed at least 1,719 people, injured 5,034, and left 15,866 people homeless, according to Venezuelan authorities. Millions have been affected across the country as rescue crews continue searching for survivors.

For De Meillon, this will be his fourth earthquake disaster recovery.

“I’m kind of, like, special in the sense that I’ll just get there sooner than most people can move,” De Meillon said.

“I just kind of dropped everything and got on a flight.”

With no Spanish and no local contacts, De Meillon quickly found his decade of disaster relief experience in desperate need as the crucial 72-hour window for finding survivors under the rubble ticked by.

Having previously worked with NGOs to respond to earthquakes in Türkiye, Indonesia, and Nepal, De Meillon knew that operating independently with a team of other experienced volunteers would give him greater flexibility.

He also knows that “going rogue” and self-deploying is a “big no-no” in disaster response, but there was no time to wait.

“I’m formally trained, I’ve got a skill, it’s being underused … It worked out well, and we pulled a lot of people alive.”

The recent political turmoil between the United States and Venezuela — during which the US seized long-time leader Nicolás Maduro in a stunning raid — has meant entry into the country is challenging for US citizens and, as a result, foreign aid workers seem thin on the ground, De Meillon said.

“As an Aussie, I can get in pretty swiftly.”

The situation that awaited him is, in a word, “frantic”.

The 43-year-old with a corporate day job described residential buildings thrown sideways by the 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude quakes, no electricity, no internet or mobile coverage, and very few basic services like running water and food. Thousands of people have become homeless overnight.

The Venezuelan government, led by interim president Delcy Rodríguez, has declared a national state of emergency and on Monday, said at least 5000 people have been injured, and more than 15,000 left homeless.

While the full scale of the damage after the two earthquakes remains unknown, a preliminary assessment by NASA estimated the earthquake damaged or destroyed 58,870 buildings.

In La Guaira, De Meillon described locals in sandals digging out rubble by hand, trying to reach loved ones they believe are trapped beneath the tonnes of concrete and twisted metal.

Using what little equipment he was able to carry into the country — including lights and, crucially, a micro camera attached to a flexible, telescopic pole — he’s doing whatever he can to help.

“We use [the camera] and then the locals come and just dig frantically and we assist in the rescues.”

Roving teams of local firefighters, police, medical services, as well as international experts from the United Kingdom, France, and elsewhere are going building to building, listening for survivors under the rubble, and advising as best they can, De Meillon said.

“The first night I was here, I was with a team,” De Meillon said, “I had my camera, we were walking around, and everyone would stop us so we’d put the camera in, look around, and we located a person.

“I wasn’t physically pulling the person out, but they dug a little, and whilst I was in one of the little holes to her right, they pulled out a girl … I think she was about 13 years old.

“She came up through the ground like a mole, crawled her way up, and then was alive and made it out. It’s great, that’s what everyone’s here for, to see those moments.”

Venezuela’s worst earthquake in more than a century hit after the oil-rich nation had endured more than a decade of economic collapse under stifling US sanctions. Hollowed-out public services, including hospitals, have collapsed both physically and functionally under the sudden strain.

The UN’s migration agency has called on the international community to act swiftly to support the rescue response, stressing the scale of the “immediate and significant” need in Venezuela.

UNHCR Australia CEO Trudi Mitchell told SBS News that the country has experienced significant displacement in the 30 years the organisation has been operating there, something compounding the issues on the ground.

“What we’re seeing, it’s a crisis on top of a crisis,” she said.

“Venezuela was already dealing with significant displacement and poverty before the earthquake struck, and for families caught up in this, particularly those who’ve been forced to flee their homes at some point, this is yet another devastating blow.”

Rodríguez has thanked countries for the outpouring of aid Venezuela has received. Twenty-four nations have sent 521 tons of supplies, 86 units with dogs trained to locate people trapped beneath the rubble, and more than 2,700 search-and-rescue personnel, she said.

On Sunday, the badly hit Simón Bolívar International Airport was partially reopened, allowing the US military to land increasing numbers of aircraft carrying rescue personnel and supplies. US sailors and marines have also been able to land vessels at the port of La Guaira.

The current focus is on meeting the “immediate needs of shelter, water, and protection”, Mitchell said, but soon the response will move into a recovery phase before rebuilding and repair can begin.

De Meillon won’t be there for that. In fact, by Wednesday, he’ll be back in the office, a little less leave banked up. But he isn’t complaining.

“This is my personal time off,” he said. “I took holiday to come to the disaster.”

“I guess I’m a rare breed. I’ve slept outside in the same jocks and socks for three days, but it’s all good. I feel very alive and connected when I do this stuff.

“I just do it because I can, and I think I do well.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Smartraveller service has had a “do-not-travel” advisory in place for Venezuela for some time, citing “the dangerous security situation, the threat of violent crime, political and economic instability and risk of arbitrary detention”.

It has updated that advice following the earthquakes and the state of emergency declaration.

“Be aware of your surroundings and monitor local media for updates. Follow the advice of local authorities and avoid affected areas,” Smartraveller advised on Thursday.

“We continue to advise do not travel to Venezuela. The security situation is unpredictable. If you’re in Venezuela, you should consider leaving if it’s safe to do so.”

Blac Chyna Shares Journey of Reversing Plastic Surgery Procedures

Blac Chyna is being upfront about her journey with beauty enhancements.

The reality TV personality shared an in-depth look at the various plastic surgeries she’s undergone over the years, including which cosmetic alterations she’s decided to undo in favor of a more natural appearance.

“I removed all my buttocks injections, all the silicone. I never went for a Brazilian Butt Lift,” Chyna clarified in an Instagram video on June 29. She was referring to the trendy procedure that transfers fat from other areas of the body to enhance the buttocks. Jokingly, she added, “I didn’t have enough body fat for a BBL in the first place. No disrespect.”

Discussing her initial breast augmentation, Chyna mentioned, “My first implants were 300 CCs.” She detailed her size changes, saying, “I moved from 300 to 700 CCs, then down to 500, back to 300, and now I have settled at 100 CCs.”

Despite her ability to reduce her implants, Chyna, whose real name is Angela Renée White, explained her reasons for not opting for a complete removal of the implants.
