Achieving a Wall Sit of This Duration Post-60 Signifies Superior Leg Strength

0

What your wall sit endurance can tell you about your fitness level.

As we age, maintaining strength becomes increasingly important, particularly once we enter our 30s. This is because the natural decline in muscle mass and bone density begins around this time. Conditions like sarcopenia and osteoporosis can develop at varying rates depending on factors such as diet, lifestyle, and genetics.

Fortunately, there are strategies to combat these age-related issues effectively. If you’re focusing on enhancing leg strength, there’s an excellent way to gauge your progress. We consulted with Reuben Chen, MD, a Board-Certified Sports Medicine Physician and Longevity Expert, who serves as the Chief Medical Advisor at Sunrider International. He shared insights that if you can maintain a wall sit for a specific duration after the age of 60, your leg strength is considered exemplary.

The optimal duration for a wall sit varies based on several factors, including your fitness level, gender, and the guidelines you follow. According to Dr. Chen, an average wall sit typically lasts between 20 to 40 seconds. However, if you can surpass the 40-second mark, it indicates that you possess superior strength compared to your gym counterparts.

What Your Wall Sit Hold Time Reveals About Your Fitness

The ideal wall sit time majorly depends on fitness level, gender, and even the source you’re getting your fitness info from. That said, Chen notes that an average wall sit time can range from 20 to 40 seconds, while holding for more than 40 seconds means you’re strong when stacked against your gym peers.

Now, if you’re able to complete the exercise with proper form for 90 seconds or more, you’re within “top-tier” status. According to Chen, falling into this category means you have solid muscular endurance, functional mobility, and independence.

If you’re only able to hold a wall sit for 20 to 30 seconds, there’s room for improvement, as this generally means below-average leg strength.

How To Do Wall Sits

Here’s exactly how to do a wall sit:

  1. Stand tall with your back pressed against a wall and arms extended ahead of you.
  2. Slowly slide down the wall until your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle, as if you’re sitting in a chair.
  3. Hold the position for the prescribed amount of time.

Why Wall Sits Are Effective for Boosting Leg Strength

This bodyweight exercise may look simple, but it gives your glutes, hamstrings, quads, calves, and core stabilizers an incredible workout. (Seriously—you’ll truly feel the burn after holding it!) Your lower-body muscles work together as you remain in position and resist gravity.

Training these muscles is particularly essential as you age, as they help you perform daily tasks like tackling stairs, getting up and down from the floor, and even walking. Strengthening them can also support better balance and fall prevention, helping you lead a confident, independent life as you grow older.

Tragic Loss: Florida Firefighter’s Heroic Legacy Remembered After Fatal Car Accident

Video above: Highlights of this week’s top news from Tampa Bay

In a somber moment for Marion County and the broader Florida firefighting community, a heartfelt farewell is being bid to one of their own. Firefighter and EMT Evan Lewis, a dedicated member of Marion County Fire Rescue, tragically passed away following a car accident that occurred last weekend.

Marion County Fire Rescue shared the devastating news on Friday, confirming that Lewis succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the June 14 accident. Known not only for his service but also for his selflessness, Lewis was a registered organ donor. In a poignant decision, his family honored his wishes, facilitating the organ donation on Thursday, June 18.

To commemorate his ultimate act of generosity, an honor walk was organized at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Family, friends, and fellow firefighters gathered to pay tribute and celebrate the enduring legacy of life that Lewis left through his final gift.

An honor walk was held for Lewis at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where friends and loved ones gathered to recognize his gift of life.

“Evan dedicated his life to serving others,” Fire Chief James Banta said. “Even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, he continued that mission. In his last act of service, Evan saved multiple lives through his gifts as an organ donor. His compassion, dedication, and commitment to helping others will never be forgotten. We ask our community to keep Evan’s family, friends, and our Marion County Fire Rescue family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

MCFR said funeral and memorial services are still being finalized with Lewis’ family.

Trump Reveals Qatar’s $400 Million Air Force One Donation

In an unexpected move, President Donald Trump unveiled the latest addition to the Air Force One fleet on Friday, catching many by surprise. The event unfolded amidst a backdrop of anticipation and patriotic flair at Joint Base Andrews.

Originally, the President’s visit was scheduled for a meeting with U.S. Air Force personnel before his departure to Camp David for the weekend. However, the occasion took a dramatic turn as attendees were greeted by a rally-like atmosphere, with the impressive new aircraft taking center stage.

The new Air Force One, a generous $400 million gift from Qatar, was a striking sight. Addressing the gathered press and service members, Trump declared, “There will never be one like this. This is considered the world’s most luxurious plane.”

Trump further highlighted the aircraft’s advanced capabilities, noting that it not only flies faster but is also larger than its predecessors. He emphasized that the designation “Air Force One” is reserved exclusively for the aircraft when the President is on board, underscoring its unique status.

Trump boasted that the new plane would fly faster and was larger than all the previous planes used as Air Force One, which is only the name of the 747 when the President is on board.

‘There will never be a plane like this again,’ he added, suggesting that the Qatari jet had more bells and whistles than even the two Boeing jets that will replace it after the President’s term ends.

He said the new Air Force One would lead a planned flyover at this year’s Fourth of July festivities, which are marking the country’s 250th birthday.

Trump took a tour of the souped-up Boeing 747 before addressing the assembled crowd.

He told journalists they would get a tour of the plane after he lifted off to Camp David.

‘Are you smiling?’ he asked members of the press pool. ‘They don’t smile at Republicans.’

The plane boasted Trump’s desired color scheme, red, white, and blue – with a strip of gold – a redesign that he’s wanted to see since his first term.

It’s reminiscent of his private plane, dubbed ‘Trump Force One.’

The President originally inked a deal with Boeing for two new Air Force One planes in February 2018.

Those planes would have his chosen livery – instead of the traditional ‘Jackie Kennedy Blue,’ which has been a signature of the design since the 1960s.

But those planes have been long delayed and are still not ready.

During President Joe Biden’s tenure, the Democrat canceled Trump’s redesign, changing the livery back to robin’s egg blue.

When Trump reentered office in January 2025, he made clear on day one that his Air Force One design dreams were not dead.

He used his version of Air Force One as a cake topper on inauguration day.

And told the Daily Mail a month later that ‘no matter what’ he would get the redesign he wished for.

Enter the Qatari government, which gifted Trump a plane belonging to the royal family worth $400 million.

The plane will just be used during the Trump administration, as the two other Boeing jets are still being constructed.

It will eventually be a focal point in the downtown Miami high-rise containing the Trump presidential library.

That unique deal has had critics complaining about corruption.

White House aides had hinted earlier this week that the new Air Force One may not be far off.

Overnight Thursday, as Trump touched down after spending several days in France at the G7, they posted that one of the larger Air Force Ones, which dated back to the President George HW Bush administration, would be retired after that flight.

Tragic Outcomes: Two Fatalities Linked to Popular Mommy Makeover Clinic – What You Need to Know

0

A tragic incident occurred at a Florida plastic surgery clinic where a woman’s life was lost following a cosmetic procedure. This marks the second fatality associated with the same facility within a month.

Kenly Millan Aponte, who traveled from Kentucky to Miami, Florida, was scheduled for a “mommy makeover” at Svelta Plastic Surgery on April 29. The procedures included a tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and a Brazilian butt lift, a birthday gift from her husband, Jefferson Carrasco, as reported by NBC 6.

Unfortunately, the day’s events took a devastating turn.

While on the operating table, the 35-year-old began experiencing respiratory issues, according to a report from the Coral Gables Fire Department, obtained by Oxygen. Emergency responders faced delays reaching Kenly due to a malfunctioning elevator and a lack of staff assistance, the report noted.

Upon entering the operating room, responders found Kenly in cardiac arrest. The report highlighted that CPR was not being administered at the time of their arrival and there was no crash cart in sight.

Responders were told that staff were “almost done” with Kenly, according to the report, when her oxygen saturation began to drop. The report noted “minimal” communication between staff and EMS.

A spokesperson for Svelta Plastic Surgery told NBC 6 that staff followed life-saving protocols, including the use of a crash cart. An attorney and a spokesperson for the clinic did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen.

Then, in May, Endrys Elian Martinez, a 19-year-old from Tennessee, was being prepped for a rhinoplasty procedure when he experienced a medical emergency, according to a Coral Gables Fire Department report obtained by Oxygen.

His mom Iblin Martinez told CBS News Miami in comments translated from Spanish to English that her son booked the appointment through Seduction Cosmetic Surgery. When he arrived, the name of the business had been changed to Svelta Plastic Surgery.

Endrys was intubated and sedated ahead of surgery but developed high blood pressure, for which he was treated, a surgeon told emergency responders, per the fire department report. Endrys’ heart rate then dropped and staff administered epinephrine. His oxygen levels then fell dangerously low, dipping into the 60s.

By the time emergency responders arrived, Endrys was unresponsive. He later went into cardiac arrest. According to an interview Endrys’ parents gave to CBS News, he died.

“These are both anesthesia-related deaths,” attorney Jorge Silva, who is representing both families, told Oxygen. “Both deal with failure to properly oxygenate, intubate and monitor.”

According to NBC 6, the clinic initially said it had “no knowledge of the cases.” In a later statement, the clinic told NBC 6 that it “cannot discuss specific patients due to privacy laws” but that it is cooperating with authorities.

The facility also told NBC 6: “Svelta aims to play a constructive role in clarifying the truth surrounding these incidents, and we respectfully ask the public to refrain from making judgments until all facts have been properly reviewed and presented.”

Spokespeople from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner did not immediately return a request for comment from Oxygen.

Fox News True Crime Newsletter: Gilgo Sentencing Updates, Insights from ‘Happy Face’ Killer, and Mangione’s Psychological Battle

Suffolk County officials wasted no time in transferring Rex Heuermann upstate, ensuring that he begins his life term in prison promptly. The swift move came just a day after he was handed the harshest penalty permissible under New York law for his role in the gruesome Gilgo Beach murders.

The 62-year-old, who once worked as an architect in New York City, was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. These will be followed by four additional sentences of 25 years to life. District Attorney Ray Tierney revealed that Heuermann had constructed a chilling “Dexter”-style kill room in his basement, where he murdered seven out of his eight known victims.

“The sentence fits the severity of his crimes, and he unquestionably earned it,” stated his former wife, Asa Ellerup, through her lawyer, Bob Macedonio.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, the defense for alleged assassin Luigi Mangione initially proposed a psychiatric defense in court, only to retract it the following day. Mangione, a former Ivy League student, would have needed to admit to shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson to use an “extreme emotional disturbance” defense under New York law. If successful, this defense could have significantly lessened his state-level sentence upon conviction but might have complicated his upcoming federal trial scheduled for next year.

The former court clerk whose misconduct helped overturn Alex Murdaugh’s murder conviction is now asking a federal judge to toss his $600,000 lawsuit against her. Lawyers for Rebecca Hill argued in a filing Thursday that Murdaugh has no right to recover the money he spent defending himself during a 2023 trial over the murders of his wife and son.

The mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie remains missing more than 135 days after her suspected abduction from her Tucson home. Some cybersecurity experts believe she may have been the victim of a “wrench attack,” where a hacker coordinated with local thugs to try and extort bitcoin from her daughter. The trend is on the rise, experts say, and increasingly involves vulnerable victims related to wealthy targets, rather than the earners themselves.

“Hell on Wheels” killer Mackenzie Shrilla is now serving up prison meals. The 21-year-old, convicted of slamming her Toyota Camry into a building on purpose and killing her boyfriend, 20-year-old Dominic Russo, and their 19-year-old friend Davion Flanagan in 2022, has landed a job behind bars. Aside from prison food, she is serving concurrent sentences of 15 years to life behind bars.

Karen Read is due in court for three separate hearings next week connected to the O’Keefe family’s wrongful death lawsuit. Read was acquitted a year ago this week of all homicide-related charges stemming from her ex-boyfriend John O’Keefe’s frigid death during a 2022 blizzard.

Tyler Robinson will also hear from Judge Tony Graf, who is expected to rule on a defense motion to punish prosecutors for making extrajudicial remarks about the case against Charlie Kirk’s accused assassination.

Barry Morphew is also due back in court in Colorado in connection with the death of his wife, Suzanne.

Exploring Data’s Darkest Moments: The 5 Most Controversial Actions in Star Trek History

0

Among the crew of the Enterprise-D, Data, portrayed by Brent Spiner, stands out as one of the most endearing characters. As the first android in Starfleet, Data may lack the ability to feel emotions, yet he consistently demonstrates kindness and thoughtfulness. His role in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” highlights him as a beloved character, not to mention his affectionate bond as a cat owner and his unwavering friendship with Geordi La Forge, played by LeVar Burton.

Despite his charm, Data isn’t without his flaws. Although programmed to adhere to social norms, he frequently breaches them, sometimes resembling that well-meaning but socially awkward friend you hesitate to bring to gatherings. Occasionally, his actions extend beyond mere faux pas into darker territory. A closer look at his tender moments with his pet cat Spot reveals a curious detail: Spot’s gender appears to change without any acknowledgment from Data. This silence from his friends suggests a possibility that Data might have replaced Spot following an unfortunate incident, without anyone noticing.

Data’s questionable behavior isn’t limited to speculative pet-related mishaps. His actions often border on the audacious. Here’s a closer look at some of Data’s most questionable moments, ranked from mildly embarrassing to downright troubling.

Many adults have experienced cringe-worthy moments while under some influence, and Data is no exception. In the episode “Masks,” Data encounters a comet that houses a technologically advanced library dating back 87 million years. After a peculiar light from the comet envelops him, the Enterprise starts to transform into a replica of an ancient temple with Mesoamerican influences, dragging Data along for the ride.

Initially, the changes are subtle. The ship becomes adorned with mysterious artifacts, and Data finds himself sculpting a mask inspired by new patterns in his positronic pathways. While Geordi examines him for any comet-induced effects, Data inquires about the sensation of losing one’s mind. Moments later, a strange symbol emerges on his forehead, and he declares a change in himself. This leads to his body being overtaken by multiple personalities enacting rituals of an ancient civilization, with the ship morphing into an ancient temple backdrop. The rest of the episode showcases Data delivering a series of exaggerated impersonations, akin to a one-man theatrical performance.

5. Turned into an ancient god

At one point or another, most adults have done something mildly to horrifically cringeworthy while under the influence. That’s exactly what happens to Data in “Masks,” after coming into contact with a comet containing an 87-million-year-old, technologically advanced library. After getting blasted with a funky light while scanning the comet, Enterprise almost immediately begins to change, transforming little by little into a recreation of an ancient temple with distinctly Mesoamerican vibes — and taking Data along with it.

At first, the effects on both the ship and on Data are minor. Strange artifacts are cropping up all over the ship, while Data kicks up his clay skills a notch by sculpting a mask that just happened to pop into his positronic brain. But while Geordi is scanning his android pal to check for any comet effects, Data asks what it feels like to lose his mind. Within a matter of seconds, Data declares he is different as a strange symbol appears on his forehead. And with that, his body is taken over by multiple personalities playing out a ritual revolving around the ancient civilization’s gods as the ship around him transforms into an ancient temple. From that point forward, the rest of the episode is just Data throwing out one hammy impersonation after another, like a theater kid performing his own one-man play.

As far as we know, Data couldn’t help any of this. But intent versus impact — and there’s no denying Data’s theatrics had an impact. And someone should tell him cultural appropriation is no laughing matter, especially if you look really goofy in that mask.

4. Hooked up with his coworkers

Aside from Reginald Barclay (Dwight Schultz) and Geordi La Forge, just about everyone aboard the Enterprise-D was getting some action — especially the android. But most Starfleet officers usually have the good judgment to avoid dating their coworkers. Take Commander Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes), who avoids dating his imzadi and future wife Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) for years to avoid fraternization problems, instead preferring to hook up with every new alien species that crosses his path. While Starfleet only forbids dating within a direct chain of command, it’s just messy business to date colleagues in any military operation.

But Data doesn’t really concern himself with professional romantic boundaries, hooking up not once, but twice with his colleagues. Technically, Data’s messy fling with Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) begins with a drunken hookup. But after her controversial death, it’s heavily implied that things continued well into sober territory despite Yar being a senior officer to Data at the time. Even if there’s no legal impropriety on her part, it certainly represents questionable judgment from both parties. And Data is not just any typical Starfleet officer — he’s a literal android who would absolutely know their relationship would certainly have fallen into an ethical gray area.

He repeats the pattern again in “In Theory” with Jenna D’Sora (Michele Scarabelli), a lieutenant junior grade security systems specialist. Once again, neither is under the other’s direct command, so it’s technically legal — but you just know it made ship-wide staff meetings with both officers in attendance pretty awkward after their breakup. And positronic or not, there’s no way that man doesn’t have information on rebounds in his database.

3. Hooked up with a Borg

As uncomfortable (and unsexy) as it was to hear Data talking about being “fully functional” to a grinning Yar, it’s far worse to see him getting all hot and bothered by the Borg Queen (Alice Krige) in “Star Trek: First Contact.” And according to longtime “Trek” director Jonathan Frakes, Data and the Borg Queen most certainly did the deed.

The whole filthy business takes place in the latter half of the movie, after Data finds himself kidnapped by the very saucy Borg Queen. In her efforts to crack his encryption and get her sleazy little paws on the Enterprise-E, she’s willing to try just about anything. Tapping into Data’s burning desire to feel human, the Borg Queen activates his emotion chip and grafts a patch of skin to his endoskeleton, the ultimate android foreplay. When she directly asks about his sexual capabilities, Data gives what we can only assume is his favorite pickup line, telling her he is “programmed in a variety of techniques.”

Now, we know the emotion chip — not to mention the stress of being kidnapped by a hot, scary babe — had our little Pinocchio turned upside down and every which way. But the mask defense can’t help him here, especially since we learn the whole act was just a ruse when he turns on her. It sure seems like he could have turned on her sooner but made sure to get some action in first.

2. Used company time to experiment on his brain

By far one of the most irresponsible things Data does is habitually conduct experiments on his own brain, which can (and do) lead to chaos and potential danger for his fellow crewmen. Data used company time to alter his own consciousness on multiple occasions throughout “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Some of these experiments are merely concerning, like when Data transfers his child’s memories into his own positronic brain after she fails to thrive in “The Offspring” or when he accidentally turns the holodeck into a Data-themed “Being John Malkovich” in “A Fistful of Datas.” But occasionally, his experiments are downright reckless, like when he intentionally chose to keep his dream program running in “Phantasms” despite full awareness that he’s having some dark nightmares. Deanna Troi would later regret encouraging this reckless decision when it caused him to stab her while sleepwalking.

The worst experiment by far was Data’s emotion chip. Despite knowing just how dangerous this chip could be from his past issues with Lore (also played by Brent Spiner), Data chooses to reinstall the darned thing in “Star Trek Generations.” This leads to a string of unprofessional, obnoxious, and unhinged behaviors, not the least of which is his singing about little life forms while scanning a planet.

1. Literally shot a guy

For a guy who is seemingly governed by data and information rather than emotions, Data sure is prone to emotional outbursts — even if sometimes they’re warranted. Still, you can’t go around shooting people no matter how much they might benefit from a run-in with the agonizer. But once again, that’s exactly what Data did when an absolute space tool kidnapped him to place in his collection of intergalactic toys in “The Most Toys.”

After Data’s shuttle presumably explodes, his crew thinks that he died. That’s convenient for the guy who staged it, an entitled Zibalian collector named Kivas Fajo (Saul Rubinek). Fajo then forces Data to sit in a chair without moving, killing his own assistant Varria (Jane Daly) and telling Data he’ll continue to kill others until the android complies. In the ensuing melee, Data gets a hold of the disruptor, aiming it at Fajo. At that precise moment, the Enterprise arrives to beam him up. Back on board his own ship, Data catches side-eye from Chief O’Brien (Colm Meaney), who reveals Data’s disruptor — set to kill — appeared to have accidentally discharged during transport before O’Brien managed to deactivate it. “Perhaps something occurred during transport,” Data replied.

As a Starfleet officer, Data would certainly have the legal and ethical standing to kill someone in self-defense. But at the moment the disruptor discharges, Fajo is unarmed. Even more alarming is Data’s reaction to O’Brien’s revelation. Without hesitation, Data blatantly gaslights O’Brien with his feigned ignorance despite knowing he’d meant to kill Fajo. This tells us two things: First, that Data would absolutely break his programming to kill someone and second, that he’s just as capable of lying as his brother, Lore. Now that’s positronically ruthless.

Israeli Drone Strike in Lebanon Escalates Tensions Following Landmark US-Iran Peace Agreement

0

In brief

  • The US and Iran have signed a deal to end the War in the Middle East.
  • A member of Trump’s Republican party calling the deal “the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.”

In a historic move to bring peace to the Middle East, US President Donald Trump and the Iranian president have finalized a landmark agreement. Under this deal, Iran will reduce its enriched uranium stockpile in exchange for substantial economic benefits.

The agreement was ceremoniously signed by President Trump during a candlelit dinner at the Palace of Versailles, coinciding with the conclusion of the G7 summit. French President Emmanuel Macron, who hosted the event, and other dignitaries applauded as the moment was captured on video by one of Trump’s aides.

Emerging triumphantly from the palace, Trump shared with reporters, “Just signed it.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, confirmed via the IRNA news agency that the agreement had been “sealed with the presidents’ signatures.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, whose nation played a mediating role, announced on X that the deal “will take effect immediately.”

The deal aims to draw a line under the war launched 28 February by the United States and Israel, prompting Iran to counterattack with missile and drone salvos across the region — and effectively shutting down the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for the world economy. The US responded by blocking shipping to and from Iranian ports.

“As a first step, Islamic Republic of Iran will instantly reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade,” Sharif wrote.

Under the text, the US also commits to immediately waive oil sanctions crippling Iran’s economy.

And once a final agreement is reached on the Islamic republic’s nuclear program, the United States will also facilitate the release of a $300 billion reconstruction fund supported by regional nations, the deal says.

The agreement had earlier been slated for signatures by Iran’s chief negotiator and parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and US Vice President JD Vance. Iran said an in-person ceremony was no longer needed.

But Sharif said an official ceremony will take place Friday in Switzerland and technical talks will commence.

‘Great victory’

Iran insisted the deal represented a US “failure.”

“People will see it and judge,” Ghalibaf said on state television on Thursday, after the text was released by both sides.

Highlighting the global impact of any deal, China said Thursday that its top diplomat had impressed on Iran that it was “key” for all sides to “genuinely implement” their commitments.

But Trump’s decision to pull the plug on the war, in which 13 US service members were killed and vast amounts of US ammunition stockpiles were used up, has unsettled some of his own allies at home.

The agreement is only a temporary arrangement meant to give time for starting detailed negotiations on the far more complex issue of long-term control over Iran’s nuclear power ambitions, which the US has long suspected of harbouring a secret bomb-making program.

Trump said earlier Thursday that he was prepared to “bomb the hell” out of Iran if they violated the agreement.

But US Senator Bill Cassidy from Trump’s own Republican Party was scathing.

“Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works,” he said. “Sanctions will be lifted, and the bombing has stopped. This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.”

Negotiations to begin

A two-month negotiating period now begins, with the much-anticipated reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as the first step.

Under the terms of the deal released by US officials, Iran will dilute its enriched uranium stocks, possibly by “down-blending on site under the supervision of the IAEA” — the UN’s nuclear watchdog.

This would lead to more far-reaching economic assistance for Iran.

But a US official said that the United States would not be required to contribute financially.

Oil prices have tumbled in recent days as optimism grew of a lasting Middle East peace agreement, and briefly reversed course on Thursday before stabilising later in the day.

Lebanese front

An Israeli drone strike in south Lebanon killed one person on Thursday, according to Lebanese state media, hours after the United States and Iran signed an agreement to end the Middle East war.

“An enemy drone targeted a car” in the Kfar Tebnit region, killing one person and seriously wounding another, the official National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Israel’s military meanwhile announced the death of one of its soldiers the night before during an incident in south Lebanon that also left seven other troops wounded.

Since Iran and the US announced they had reached an agreement on Tuesday, there has been a sharp decrease in the level of violence in Lebanon.

Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group, drew Lebanon into the Middle East war in March by attacking Israel to avenge the killing of the Islamic republic’s supreme leader at the start of the US-Israeli campaign.

Israel retaliated with broad strikes across Lebanon and by launching a ground invasion into the south, which borders Israel and has long been under Hezbollah’s sway.

Since the agreement was announced, Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for any new attacks against Israel.

Still, there have been limited exchanges of fire, and on Tuesday Israeli strikes killed four people in Lebanon.

Israel has not officially commented on the US-Iran agreement.

China approves

China said on Thursday it “welcomes” news that the United States and Iran signed a deal to end the Middle East war, urging both sides to continue their cooperation in a second round of negotiations.

“China welcomes this development and hopes that all relevant parties — including the US and Iran — will uphold the spirit of their agreement and earnestly honour their commitments,” foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a news conference, urging the US and Iran to “meet each other halfway” in the next stage of talks.

Union Leader’s Fiery Critique: Billionaire Tax Champion Takes on Gavin Newsom in Exclusive Interview

0

In a bold move, the union leader driving the contentious billionaire tax proposal in California has launched a pointed critique against Governor Gavin Newsom. This tension has arisen as both parties grapple with efforts to keep the measure from reaching voters in November.

Dave Regan, the president of SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West, delivered a scathing assessment of Newsom in an interview with The Lever. Regan accused the governor of aligning with the interests of the wealthy elite, implying that Newsom’s opposition to the tax is more about political aspirations than genuine policy issues.

“Governor Newsom likely believes he cannot pursue a successful campaign without catering to the billionaire class,” Regan remarked, alluding to the widespread belief that Newsom has his sights set on a 2028 presidential bid. Such a campaign would undoubtedly require substantial financial backing from affluent contributors.

Regan emphasized that mounting a viable presidential campaign would necessitate “hundreds of millions” of dollars, suggesting that Newsom’s current political maneuvers are part of a larger strategy to secure future funding.

He noted such a campaign could cost “hundreds of millions” of dollars.

“There’s a limited number of places where you’re able to do that,” Regan said.

The labor leader argued that Newsom’s alleged deference to billionaires could backfire on Democrats nationally and pave the way for the election of “Donald Trump’s protege” if the California governor ultimately secures the party’s presidential nomination.

“The right and the far right is actually, their rhetoric is more populist than the rhetoric of the Democrats,” Regan said. “That’s what I worry about, is we don’t need another president whose first priority is to take care of the wealthiest people in America.”

That remark was a veiled shot at Newsom, as President Trump has been routinely criticized by the governor and other liberals for “crony capitalism.”

Newsom has publicly opposed the proposed one-time 5% tax on the state’s ultra-rich due to fears it could significantly hurt California’s economy after billionaires flee the state. He reportedly has made behind-the-scenes moves to isolate Regan by recruiting other unions and other unlikely allies to oppose the tax.

Supporters of the tax argue the revenue is needed to help offset federal health care cuts. The measure officially qualified for the November ballot this week, though it could still be withdrawn before June 25 if Newsom succeeds in negotiating a compromise.

So far, there hasn’t been much progress, at least publicly. On Thursday, supporters offered Newsom the option of a 2% tax enacted through legislation instead, but the governor swiftly declined.

“The governor supports making the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share, but this poorly designed state-only measure will defund teachers, schools, clinics, and public safety,” his office said.

If the proposal reaches voters, analysts expect an expensive election fight. Billionaires, including Google co-founder Sergey Brin, have already poured significant money into efforts to defeat the measure.

The Post reached out to Newsom’s office for comment on Regan’s remarks.

Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic React to Alexi Lalas’ Surprising Fox Sports Shake-Up

Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic appeared visibly relieved as they enjoyed a break from their analyst duties alongside U.S. soccer icon Alexi Lalas.

The trio had previously experienced several tense exchanges during the early stages of the World Cup. On Friday, Lalas traveled to Seattle to cover the U.S. Men’s National Team’s second group match against Australia.

In Seattle, Lalas was accompanied by host Rob Stone and fellow American soccer stars Clint Dempsey and Carli Lloyd. As thousands of fans gathered around the broadcast set at Lumen Field, excitement buzzed in the air before the game.

Meanwhile, Henry and Ibrahimovic remained in the Fox studio in Los Angeles, where they were joined by anchor Rebecca Lowe.

When Lowe informed viewers that Lalas had departed, Zlatan humorously quipped, “America, you’re welcome.”

That moment set social media ablaze and fans watching on from home claimed the pair looked overjoyed to be without Lalas.

One commented: ‘Zlatan looks like a giddy child not having to sit next to Lalas today.’

Another posted: ‘Henry and Zlatan celebrating Alexi Lalas not being there lmaoooo’

A third replied: ‘Zlatan could not look happier that Lalas isn’t there with them’.

‘Zlatan and Henry already taking shots at Lalas,’ another quipped.

Another fan replied: ‘It’s been one week and Thierry and Zlatan have already kicked Lalas off the panel.’

Before the Fox broadcast went live on Friday, Henry and Ibrahimovic posted a montage of them doing some outrageous skills in the studio.

The pair, two of the greatest forwards in the history of the game, showed they’ve still got as they performed a number of tricks and flicks.

But the very first clip in the video showed Henry teasing Lalas towards the ball before he quickly whipped it away from the helpless American in what was a cheeky dig at him.

Fans quickly flooded the comments to point out the difference in skill between the trio, with one asking: ‘Lalas didn’t fancy getting involved, no?’

Another commented: ‘Alexi Lalas will pull a hamstring if he tries to join in’ with a laughing emoji.

‘Alexi Lalas watching like he’s about to slide tackle the ball into the cameraman,’ a third replied.

It has been a fiery start to the 2026 World Cup for Fox’s analyst team, and tempers frayed live on air on Tuesday when Landon Donovan labeled the French team ‘arrogant’ and ‘casual’ during a below-par first-half performance.

Back in the studio at half-time, Henry hit back, telling Donovan: ‘I just don’t get it. So because you’re not 1-0 or 2-0 or 3-0 up after 15 minutes, those words have to come out?’

He then appeared to take a dig at Donovan’s lack of knowledge about the impressive Senegal team, adding: ‘We all knew that was going to happen. If people don’t know how Senegal can play, that’s on them.’

At full-time, after France had enjoyed a much stronger second half to win 3-1, Ibrahimovic got involved in the debate, spurred on by comments from Lalas.

The American reignited the ‘arrogant’ France debate by saying: ‘We had that nice little fun back-and-forth between Landon and Thierry about whether the French were arrogant in the first half. We can have that discussion, but the reality is that if they are arrogant, it’s because they can do things like that…’

Zlatan then jumped in, creating a toe-curling moment of awkwardness live on air, when he stated: ‘It’s not arrogance, it’s confidence. Ignorant people will say it’s arrogance, intelligent people will say it’s confidence.’

As Henry looked straight down the camera with a stunned facial expression, Lowe jumped in to get the broadcast back on track.

‘Okay, good to know,’ she said, before laughing and steering the conversation to a more friendly place.

It was not the first time the Americans clashed with their European colleagues, either. On the first couple of days of the tournament last week, there were multiple flashpoints that hinted at some tension in the ranks.

One such moment occurred when the panel were discussing Erling Haaland, and Lalas made the bold decision to claim that a good tournament for the Norwegian would see him surpass Ibrahimovic in the record books.

‘I love you Z, but I will take Haaland over you if he has a big World Cup,’ Lalas told Ibrahimovic. Suffice to say, the Sweden icon disagreed, and immediately hit back to present his own argument.
