Legendary “Today” Show Film Critic Gene Shalit Passes Away Peacefully at 100

0

Gene Shalit, a legendary figure in film criticism and a cherished voice on the Today show for four decades, has passed away at the age of 100. Known for his distinctive style and insightful reviews, Shalit was a beloved presence on the morning broadcast.

During his celebrated tenure, Shalit shared the spotlight with luminaries such as Barbara Walters and Katie Couric, and even worked alongside the controversial figure, Matt Lauer. His unique flair and warm personality made him a standout among his peers.

The news of his passing was confirmed by his family on Friday through an announcement on NBC News, marking the end of what they described as “an extraordinary era” on Today. Shalit’s contributions to the show left an indelible mark on viewers and colleagues alike.

In their heartfelt statement, his family reflected on his remarkable life, noting that he “passed away peacefully today after 100 years of an amazing life.” This somber announcement comes just shy of three months after Shalit celebrated his 100th birthday, a milestone that underscored his long and impactful journey in the world of entertainment journalism.

His death comes nearly three months after he celebrated his milestone centennial birthday.

The moment was commemorated on the Today show, with Al Roker announcing at the time: ‘He is ringing in 100 by enjoying that fresh air in the Berkshires with his six kids, five grandchildren.’

Shalit, whose recognizable bold mustache became a signature part of his look, was born in New York City in 1926.

He was raised in New Jersey and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign with a Bachelor of Arts degree in science and letters in 1949.

Before graduating, he showed promise as a writer while penning the columns What Shalit Be? and Campus Scout for The Daily Illini, per The Hollywood Reporter.

He went on to become Dick Clark’s press agent, before leaving the position and becoming a magazine writer.

Shalit, whose full name Eugene was shortened amid his public-facing career, first appeared on Today in a part-time capacity.

His Critics Corner segment became part of the show’s regular broadcast in 1968.

Shalit first reviewed books monthly, and later transitioned to a full-time role from 1973-1995.

He also notably interviewed big-name celebrities including Carol Channing, Sophia Loren, and Steven Spielberg.

The writer’s reviews were beloved and recognized for being rich in humor and wit.

In addition to a reputation for his punchy prose, he was also widely recognized for his unmistakable looks.

Eugene Levy parodied him on the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV, while he was also portrayed by Horatio Sanz on Saturday Night Live.

A Muppets character was made in his likeness, and turned into an animated character on SpongeBob Squarepants, which he voiced.

He was even portrayed on an episode of Family Guy.

Shalit wed Nancy Lewis in 1950 and they shared Peter, Willa, Andrew, Nevin, Emily and Amanda.

The father of six was widowed upon his wife’s death from cancer in 1978, and he never remarried.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Son Knox Makes Surprising Name Change Before Turning 18

Knox, the son of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, opted to exclude “Pitt” from his surname when receiving his high school diploma.

The young graduate, who will celebrate his 18th birthday on July 12, adopted the name “Knox Jolie” on his certificate upon completing his studies at Fusion Academy in Los Angeles earlier this month, according to an exclusive source for Page Six.

Knox marked this significant occasion in the presence of his mother, the “Maleficent” actress, who is 51, as well as his older siblings, Pax, 22, and Zahara, 21, along with his twin sister, Vivienne.

Another insider disclosed to Page Six that Angelina appears “quite satisfied with her achievements regarding her extensive and deliberate attempts to distance her children from their father.”

“It’s unfortunate for the whole family that she would repeatedly use the name change as a tool for purposes other than to cause distress to their father,” the source elaborated. “This was her objective, and she accomplished it.”

A third source exclusively told Page Six, “Angelina participated in years of family therapy with Brad and the children for everyone to try to heal after the events that led her to file for divorce.”

“If he isn’t close to the kids, it’s because of the harm that was done,” the insider added. “He wasn’t honest about his actions, and it affected the trust between them. It’s been very hard for the kids. No one knows, except them, how bad it has been.”

The source continued: “The children are now adults and make their own decisions, which deserve respect. If they choose to distance themselves from him, it comes from that pain and harm. It’s really horrible that he has tried to paint himself as a victim. When will people start asking real questions about what happened to the kids?”

Meanwhile, Knox didn’t censor his excitement during his graduation speech as he dropped an F-bomb while addressing his classmates and their families hours before his Muay Thai showdown.

“Tonight, I’m gonna be fighting at Total Sonic Knockout 5 at 12:45 a.m., so catch me,” he told the crowd in a clip from the ceremony.

“I’m gonna knock ‘em the f—k out. Let’s go!” he added, eliciting cheers from the audience.

Knox’s move marks the latest chapter in the longtime rift that has played out in the years since Brad and Angelina’s highly publicized split.

The “Fight Club” actor, 62, finalized his long-running divorce from Angelina in December 2024, bringing an end to more than eight years of legal proceedings.

Angelina filed to dissolve their marriage in September 2016.

Knox’s gesture follows a similar path taken by several of his siblings. On June 9, Zahara filed paperwork to request her name be Zahara Jolie instead of Zahara Jolie-Pitt.

In 2024, Knox’s older sister Shiloh successfully petitioned a Los Angeles court to legally remove “Pitt” from her last name after turning 18.

Last month, Knox’s older brother Maddox also filed legal paperwork seeking to drop “Pitt” from his last name, citing personal reasons in court documents.

Prior to the filing, he had already begun using “Maddox Jolie” professionally, including in credits for the film “Couture,” which he worked on as an assistant director and starred Angelina.

Spencer Pratt Declares ‘It’s War’ After Shocking L.A. Mayoral Race Defeat

0

LOS ANGELES — In a video shared on Friday morning, Spencer Pratt, a former reality TV star and Republican, addressed his defeat in the Los Angeles mayoral primary with a stark warning about the city’s future, stating, “You have no idea how bad things are about to get for the city.”

In the video captioned “Saving LA-Phase III” posted on his social media, Pratt said he is not leaving town and is going to stay active in local politics.

Pratt, known for his outspoken nature, declared, “You thought you could get rid of me that easily? I didn’t enter this race for political power; I did it to expose this corrupt system, and nothing has changed.”

He continued, “Now, I don’t have to worry about offending CNN viewers. Without a campaign to constrain me, it’s war.”

The three-minute video, which featured clips from movies, news segments, and even a UFC fight, portrayed a bleak image of Los Angeles. Throughout, Pratt expressed his dissatisfaction with the city’s current state.

In his message, Pratt also criticized the remaining candidates, City Councilwoman Nithya Raman and Mayor Karen Bass, emphasizing his disapproval of the current political landscape.

“Angelenos are now stuck with two morons responsible for all their problems and now have to choose between dumb and dumber,” Pratt said, as images of Raman and Bass appeared.

He also said that “every problem that plagues Los Angeles because of these two corrupt communists is going to accelerate” under their leadership.

Pratt’s goal has not changed, he said, and he remains focused on stopping “these commie animals.”

“If you think we uncovered a lot of fraud and evil in the campaign, just wait,” Pratt said.

He went on to say that they have a recording of one of the candidates “doing or saying something that would make her resign in shame,” but did not directly say whether it was of Bass or Raman.

He calls them both out while looking directly at the camera, saying, “So, Karen, Nithya, ask yourself. Is it possible that one of your employees may have a recording of you doing or saying something that would force you to resign in disgrace?”

Pratt used the opportunity to discuss the Palisades Fire, which destroyed his home and was a recurring topic during his campaign.

“Hope you sleep well at night over the next five months, because you know who hasn’t slept well at all for the last 17 months? My mom. All my neighbors in the Palisades,” he said.

He also claimed major developers, hoteliers, business owners and entrepreneurs have told him they are leaving the city, which he argued would lead to more restaurant closures and less tax revenue.

“That means the city has to cut services. More potholes, less firefighters, less police patrols, more criminals, more drug addicts terrorizing your communities,” Pratt said.

“You have no idea how bad things are about to get for the city, look at this place already,” he added. “The city is a mess and you’re about to reward the arsonist who torched the place with four more years of destruction.”

Pratt competed against Bass and Raman in the primary election for a spot in the November runoff. He was eliminated after failing to secure enough votes to advance.

His video message comes just one day after Raman made a pledge to his supporters to deliver on the change they want in an effort to be their candidate come November.

The election was not a vote of confidence in Bass, who, according to incomplete returns, received under 35% of the vote, a vulnerable position for an incumbent. Still, she remains ahead of Raman with a more than 44,000 vote difference.

Raman holds a lead of more than 29,000 votes over Pratt in the latest election results, with 246,333 votes to Pratt’s 216,783.

Raman, who previously endorsed Bass for reelection, had been running in third until Sunday, but she gained more votes with every update provided by election officials in Los Angeles since June 2, primary day.

Eyewitness News reached out to Raman’s campaign, who had no comment about Pratt’s video.

The Bass campaign did not respond to our request for comment.

Pratt’s candidacy drew national attention due to his celebrity status and outspoken criticism of liberal leadership in a heavily Democratic city, but that attention did not translate into sufficient support at the polls.

Angelenos will decide in November whether Bass keeps her position as mayor or if voters turn the page and elect Raman as the new leader for the city.

FIFA World Cup 2026: June 12th Match Results, Highlights, and In-Depth Analysis

0

In brief

  • Mexico defeated South Africa 2-0 in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
  • South Korea won their opener 2-1 against Czechia in Guadalajara.

South Korea kicked off their World Cup journey with a victory, edging out the Czech Republic 2-1 on Friday AEST. The team finally capitalized on their numerous opportunities to secure the win.

Sharing the spotlight at the top of the group, South Korea now stands alongside Mexico, both with three points. Earlier, Mexico triumphed over a South African team reduced to nine players, with a 2-0 win in the tournament’s opening match in Mexico City.

For much of the match, it appeared as though the Czech Republic might make South Korea pay for missed chances. However, in the 80th minute, substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu netted the winning goal in a sparsely filled Guadalajara stadium.

Led by Son Heung-min, the Korean side dominated the first half but struggled to score until later in the game.

Stay informed with our daily updates and in-depth analysis delivered straight to your inbox. Your go-to source for the latest global news.

The former Tottenham star blasted one effort over the bar before making a driving run to his left and evading two Czech defenders, only to shoot wide.

An entertaining second half began with the Czechs scoring against the run of play as Ladislav Krejci rose at the front post to power a header past Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu.

Hwang In-beom finally made the Korean pressure pay with a clever equaliser as he faked a shot and then caressed the ball over Czech keeper Matek Kovar on 67 minutes.

The Czechs had a goal disallowed before Hwang added to his goal with an assist, crossing from the right for Oh to slot home.

When the final whistle sounded after a frantic end to the game, Son sank to the turf in joy.

South Korea will face Mexico next Friday morning, Australian time, in Guadalajara. The Czechs play the South Africans in Atlanta on the same day.

Contentious red card hat trick in Mexico v South Africa opener

Mexico got the FIFA World Cup party started as the co-hosts swept South Africa aside 2-0 in a scrappy encounter that saw three red cards shown.

More than 80,000 fans packed out Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca for the Group A match, which will be remembered for the flurry of dismissals that saw South Africa reduced to nine men and a controversial call against Mexico’s César Montes.

Mexico dominated from the get-go, with Julián Quiñones — who was awarded player of the match — setting the tone early with a strike from the edge of the penalty area in the ninth minute.

Veteran 35-year-old striker Raúl Jiménez added a second — his first World Cup goal in four tournaments — after nodding a header in the 67th minute, removing any lingering tension for the home crowd.

South Africa were reduced to 10 men when Sphephelo Sithole was sent off early in the second half, with his teammate Themba Zwane following him off the pitch in the 84th minute before Montes was dismissed in the dying moments.

Montes was dismissed after he stuck a leg out and knocked down South African attacker Khuliso Mudau, a call that fired up SBS guest and former Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng.

“That’s a joke, that’s a joke red card for me,” he said on SBS’s post-game coverage.

“Maybe we can argue, maybe we can fight about it, but I’m telling you that’s not a red card.”

Under FIFA rules, a red card results in an automatic one-game suspension for the offending player, meaning Montes will miss Mexico’s second group match against South Korea.

Fouls can be treated more harshly if the act is considered to be a deliberate act to stop a clear goal-scoring opportunity, as was deemed the case for Montes.

But Boateng said other defenders were in the immediate vicinity.

“It’s not a clear opportunity to score. It’s a foul, it’s a yellow card, but you just robbed the captain of the Mexican team for the next game,” he said.

“He’s going wide, he’s not going towards goal, and at the end of the day, there’s another two players in the middle who can defend his shot, his cross, whatever. It’s not a clear red card.

“This is where I suppose VAR should step in and say ‘that’s a mistake’.”

An opening ceremony featuring Shakira and Burna Boy performing the World Cup anthem had pumped up the crowd even further before Mexico swiftly got down to business.

The fixture was a repeat of the 2010 tournament opener, when South Africa held Mexico to a 1-1 draw in Johannesburg, yet this encounter was played out in a stadium with World Cup history stamped all over it.

The Azteca has witnessed some of the tournament’s most iconic moments, from Maradona’s “Hand of God” and 1986 heroics to Pele’s all-conquering Brazil side of 1970.

Shia LaBeouf Marks 40th Birthday with Girlfriend in New Orleans Celebration

0

Shia LaBeouf marked a significant personal milestone on Thursday, celebrating his 40th birthday alongside new girlfriend Nicole Mumphrey in the vibrant city of New Orleans.

The actor, who recently received a suspended sentence related to a Mardi Gras altercation, spent his special day in the company of his new romantic partner, following his 2025 break-up with Mia Goth.

Since the spring, LaBeouf and Mumphrey have been seen together, and the couple was spotted strolling through the city, fingers interlaced, enjoying each other’s company.

For the outing, LaBeouf opted for a casual look, sporting a light pink patterned short-sleeve button-up shirt paired with black shorts. He completed his ensemble with classic black Nike Cortez sneakers.

Mumphrey embraced the warm weather in a white summer dress, complemented by brown thong flip-flops, perfectly capturing the laid-back vibe of their day out.

The duo dined at a Mexican restaurant before stopping by a cookie shop.

The new couple put on an affectionate display as Mumphrey rested her head on LaBeouf’s shoulder and he adoringly pet her chin.

Last week the filmmaker entered a guilty plea on three misdemeanor counts of battery in connection to a raucous bar brawl in February.

He was sentenced to two years’ probation, alcohol abuse rehabilitation, sensitivity training and anger management classes, according to People magazine.

After his arrest in the early morning hours of February 17 for battery, the Transformers actor was initially released on his own recognizance.

However, he was subsequently required to post a $100,000 bond after the judge was made aware of allegations that LaBeouf used a gay slur during the brawl.

His second charge carried an additional $5,000 bond, and he was later hit with a third battery charge.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, LaBeouf’s lawyer Sarah Chervinsky responded to the severity of the charges and sentence.

‘The police and DA investigation proved exactly what Shia LaBeouf said from the beginning – that this was nothing more than a minor Mardi Gras bar tussle,’ said Chervinsky.

‘There is no evidence it was about bias or prejudice, which is why the state only charged these low-level misdemeanors,’ she continued. ‘Mr. LaBeouf came to court today wanting to take accountability for his part in what happened, and he has done so. Now he’s looking forward to focusing on family, work, and new creative projects.’

LaBeouf shockingly sat for an extensive Channel 5 interview on February 24, one week after Fat Tuesday, and published days later on February 28.

In the wide-ranging conversation, the movie star briefly discussed the demise of his marriage to Goth.

The exes share four-year-old daughter Isabel.

LaBeouf relocated to New Orleans, where he has family roots, following their split in 2025.

‘It’s not new heartbreak. I don’t want to talk too much about it. It’s not my story alone to tell, but my side is I failed my marriage, so I had to own up to that. So that’s why I moved out here,’ he said.

LaBeouf detailed some family history elsewhere in the thorough interview.

He explained that his paternal grandmother was a lesbian who married a man who served as her ‘beard,’ a partner meant to publicly disguise someone’s homosexuality.

His last name was originally spelled LeBoeuf but the spelling was changed by his grandmother in an effort to distance herself from her family, who had disowned her.

Speaking on the subject of homosexuality, he stated: ‘I’m good with gay. Be gay over there though. Don’t be gay in my lap.’

Harper Beckham’s Quick Visit to Brooklyn’s LA Mansion Sparks Speculation: Leaves Without a Reunion

0

In a heartfelt attempt to reconnect, Harper Beckham tried to visit her estranged brother Brooklyn Beckham’s Los Angeles home on Friday, but unfortunately, her efforts were in vain.

The 14-year-old, daughter of renowned couple Victoria and David Beckham, was seen arriving at her older brother’s property in an SUV. Exclusive photos acquired by Page Six captured her near the Beverly Hills residence around 2 p.m. PT, shortly after she attended her father’s star-studded Walk of Fame ceremony in Hollywood.

Harper seemed to have made an impromptu visit, but departed moments later without meeting Brooklyn. A source informed Page Six that neither Brooklyn nor his wife, Nicola Peltz, were present as they were reportedly out of town.

Harper was dressed in the same pink midi-dress and sweater ensemble she donned for David’s Hollywood Walk of Fame celebration, which began at 10 a.m. PT in Hollywood. The family gathered to support the soccer legend as he received the esteemed honor, though Brooklyn and Nicola were notably absent, as exclusively reported by Page Six.

Page Six has reached out to representatives for Brooklyn, David, and Victoria for their comments on the matter.

Harper’s attempt to connect with her estranged sibling comes five months after Brooklyn took to social media with a bombshell statement slamming his parents — most notably, his mother, alleging she hijacked his first dance with Nicola at their 2022 wedding and “controlled narratives in the press” about the famous family.

“Even though Brooklyn has made it clear he doesn’t want to see his parents, the rest of his family misses him desperately,” a source previously told Page Six of the ongoing feud.

In a previous statement, the 27-year-old chef bluntly said, “I do not want to reconcile with my family.”

“I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” he continued. “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.”

He added in the lengthy screed, “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family [with] performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships. … Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade.”

Insisting that “the truth always comes out,” Brookyn claimed that Victoria, 52, and David, 51, “have been trying endlessly to ruin [his] relationship” with Peltz, 31 — prior to them walking down the aisle in a lavish Florida ceremony four years ago.

Brooklyn claimed the efforts “haven’t stopped” since then. “My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress,” he wrote.

The photographer also accused his parents of “repeatedly pressur[ing] and attempt[ing] to bribe” him into “signing away the rights to” his name before his wedding celebration and alleged that “members of [his] family” told him that his bride- to-be was “not family” and “not blood.”

Brooklyn wrote that after his “holdout,” his parents have “have never treated me the same since.”

Most memorably, Beckham wrote that “In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me.”

He added of the alleged moment, “She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everybody. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

Brooklyn concluded the statement by defending his wife and writing that the couple does “not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”

Since then, relations in the family seemed to have come to a standstill, with Brooklyn directing his family to only contact him through an attorney.

As for Brooklyn’s apparent Walk of Fame snub, a source told Page Six earlier this month that it would never have happened.

“Even if he did want to see them at the Walk of Fame, Nicola would not take too kindly to it,” the insider told Page Six.

Another source said, “Two things can be true; Nicola can be difficult and Brooklyn does not want to see his parents.”

NBA Finals 2023: Game 5 Schedule Revealed – Find Out When and Where to Watch

The New York Knicks are on the brink of clinching their first NBA title since 1973.

In a stunning Game 4, the Knicks overcame a staggering 29-point gap, marking the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. This victory has given New York a commanding 3-1 series advantage as the Finals shift back to San Antonio for Game 5. OG Anunoby’s dramatic tip-in of Jalen Brunson’s missed three-pointer, with just 1.2 seconds left on the clock, has immortalized his place in Knicks lore.

“That must be the most iconic shot in New York basketball history,” remarked Knicks head coach Mike Brown.

Historically, only one team has ever overturned a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals: the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James. 4 Effective Standing Exercises to Tone Your Midsection Faster Than Gym Machines for Those Over 60

0

Say goodbye to stubborn belly fat without hitting the floor or relying on gym equipment.

Many individuals have a preferred workout routine, often involving a trip to the gym. While the treadmill is a staple for many, a significant 26.6% of gym-goers opt for resistance machines, as highlighted in the 2025 US Health & Fitness Consumer Report: Expanded Insights. Gym machines can indeed be effective for those aiming to tone their midsection. Cardio equipment excels at burning calories, while core machines help strengthen abdominal muscles.

However, we consulted with Jacob Siwicki, the founder and head coach of Siwicki Fitness. He holds certifications from NCSF and AFAA, was previously a top 1% globally ranked Equinox group fitness instructor in 2019, graduated in economics from Dartmouth, and played football for Dartmouth. Siwicki is also a fitness expert at FOX 5 DC and was recognized as the top personal trainer in D.C. in 2021. He revealed four standing exercises that could effectively flatten your stomach more quickly than traditional gym machine workouts for those over 60.

“Most adults over 60 prefer not to get down on the floor, and many find it challenging to do so,” Siwicki explains. “When core workouts require lying on a mat, they often skip them. Standing exercises remove this hurdle, encouraging participation. Additionally, wrist, shoulder, and neck pain are common reasons our members avoid floor-based core work, so standing exercises eliminate these issues. Plus, the muscles most crucial for life after 60—the glutes, deep core, and postural muscles—naturally work together in standing positions, not when lying down.”

“Most adults over 60 just don’t want to get down on the floor, and a lot of them physically can’t get up and down easily. So, when their core workout requires lying down on a mat, they skip it,” Siwicki tells us. “Standing work takes that whole barrier away, which means people actually do the workout. And wrist pain and shoulder pain and neck pain are the top reasons our members tell us they bail on floor-based core work anyway, so going upright eliminates all of that. Then, on top of everything else, the muscles that matter most for daily life after 60—the glutes, the deep core, and the postural muscles—already work together in standing positions, not when you’re lying down.”

Every rep reinforces your posture and balance, which directly translates to not falling—which is truly essential after 60. Below are four stellar moves to add to your workouts.

“I chose movements that stay entirely upright because, after 60, the core’s real job is not to crunch your ribs toward your hips. Its real job is to keep your spine stable while you stand, while you walk, while you carry things around all day,” Siwicki stresses. “Standing work trains the whole chain the way real life actually uses it, and you pick up the glute and posture benefits automatically. A floor crunch is never going to give you that.”

“This exercise trains the obliques and the quadratus lumborum under the same kind of load as a heavy bag of groceries,” Siwicki says.

  1. Begin standing tall, holding one dumbbell at your side—anywhere from 8 to 15 pounds, depending on your fitness level and what feels most comfortable.
  2. Walk 30 to 40 yards without allowing your loaded shoulder to dip down.
  3. Repeat on the other side.
  4. For modification, use a 5-pound weight or a half-gallon water jug. In addition, shorten the distance to 10 or 15 yards.

Pallof Press

“The whole point is that your deep core has to fight to keep you from rotating toward the band,” Siwicki says.

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and your left side beside an anchored resistance band (which should be at about chest height).
  2. Hold the band in both hands, and push the band straight out from your sternum.
  3. Hold the band out for 5 seconds while bracing against the resistance.
  4. Use control to bring it back to the start position.
  5. Perform 8 reps on each side.
  6. For modification, feel free to use a lighter band or shorten the press by only lengthening your arms about 75% of the way out.

Standing Woodchop

“This exercise hits the obliques and the transverse abdominis through rotation, which most older adults have completely lost,” Siwicki points out.

  1. Set the cable machine to a high position, attaching the handle.
  2. Stand perpendicular to the machine with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. Hold the handle using both hands.
  4. With extended arms, pull the cable diagonally across your body—a high to low chopping motion—so it ends near your opposite hip.
  5. Maintain a braced core and square hips.
  6. Use control as you return to the start position.
  7. Perform 10 reps on each side.

Single-Arm Overhead Carry

“The deep core and the lats and the obliques all fire at the same time to keep your spine stacked under that uneven load,” Siwicki says.

  1. Begin standing tall.
  2. Depending on your current capabilities, press a 5 to 10-pound dumbbell straight overhead.
  3. Walk 20 yards.
  4. Repeat on the other side.
  5. For modification, perform a chest-level carry, or hold a 2 to 3-pound weight instead.
