Beloved Lower East Side Bar Faces Landlord Dispute Over Ownership Rights

0

In the heart of downtown, a legendary tavern is embroiled in a fierce legal battle.

169 Bar, an iconic establishment, has filed a lawsuit accusing their landlord of attempting to capitalize unlawfully on its well-established trademark. The lawsuit alleges that the landlord plans to open a duplicate venue in the same location, leveraging the original owner’s reputation and branding.

According to the lawsuit, Maria Kolon, who has long overseen the family-owned property, supposedly registered the 169 Bar name and its distinctive martini logo with federal authorities without the bar owner’s consent. The suit claims Kolon is scheming to launch a replica bar at the original site.

The legal documents submitted to Manhattan Supreme Court assert, “Defendants have indicated their intention to provide bar services at the identical location using the 169 BAR trademarks,” despite lacking any rights to ownership or quality control, while also pursuing federal registrations for the Plaintiff’s marks.

Charles Hanson, the current proprietor, expressed his frustration, stating, “They’re trying to undermine everything I’ve worked for.”

Kolon did not respond to a request for comment.

The trademark lawsuit comes while a long-running and contentious eviction suit plays out in the background, where Hanson, 71, says the landlords strung him along over a new lease only to renege at the last minute.

“The trademark thing is like pouring salt on the wound,” Hanson told The Post.

The former bike messenger and DJ bought the bar in 2006 after he was run over by a limousine and got a six-figure payout, and says the only reason the iconic name and logo is valuable is because of how he transformed the bar into a dive hotspot.

The watering hole has attracted celebrities like actors Zoe Kravitz, Cillian Murphy, and Jason Momoa. Comedian Aziz Ansari has also been a patron, and his “Master of None” character, Dev Shah, partied there on the show.

Hanson explained that decades ago, the Podbielska family owned both the building and ran the bar — which was more of an eatery back then.

Jolanta Podbielska, Maria Kolon’s mother, allegedly designed the infamous martini-glass sign — and even tended bar back in the 1950s — but sold it in 1999 for just $30,000.

When Hanson bought the bar using his limo-injury cash, he said it had a blacked-out vibe of a scuzzy social club whose main attraction was oil-wrestling.

But he turned it into a bustling dive, and today enjoys mainstay status as a hyper-popular fixture of ultra-hip Dimes Square.

Hanson’s work is backed up by years of unsolicited media coverage by national and city publications, over many years,” the suit claims, cementing a reputation for cheap beer and drinks, its distinctive “NOLA vibes” and “truly weird and fun” details, like a leopard-print pool table, $5 tarot readings, an aquarium centerpiece and a “youthful regular crowd.”

Hanson actually had a federal trademark registered in 2014, but it lapsed without his knowledge during the height of the pandemic in 2020, when he notes he never missed a single rent payment.

He didn’t realize the mistake when he told Page 6 about his trademark back in March — and just days later, Kolon filed a new trademark application, claiming she and her newly-created LLC have continuously used the sign since 1977 when her mother allegedly created it.

“I think the trademark has value because of the work I put into it,” said Hanson, “because I don’t think it was this value before.”

“I don’t think that they’re compensating me for that,” he said of the sneaky move.

One possible issue for the longtime landlords is despite claiming that they first used the sign in 1977, they haven’t run the bar in nearly 30 years.

And a federal attorney for the trademark office just flagged Kolon’s application for that reason earlier this week, citing “possible non-use of the mark in commerce.”

But Kolon’s daughter, Kristal, has already been telling employees at the beloved dive “that she is the owner of the bar,” the suit alleges.

“They could have just been honest and say, look, our daughter wants to run the bar, and we don’t really want to renew the lease,” Hanson said. “It’s the fact that they lied about it.”

Texas Freshman, 18, Fatally Shot During Routine Traffic Stop

In a troubling incident, a sheriff’s deputy has been dismissed from his position after allegedly shooting an unarmed Texas State University freshman. The incident involved the firing of a gunshot into the student’s vehicle.

This week, Brazoria County Deputy Kevin Tippit faced termination following an investigation into the death of 18-year-old student John Mendoza Jr., which occurred on June 1.

The shooting ignited significant backlash and demonstrations at Texas State University, amid reports that Tippit discharged his firearm at Mendoza during a routine traffic stop.

Authorities reported that the event escalated after Tippit attempted to stop Mendoza near Lake Jackson. However, the freshman reportedly attempted to evade the stop, leading to a pursuit that extended over a mile.

The chase concluded with Mendoza reaching his home and parking in a garage. It was here that Tippit allegedly confronted the student and discharged his weapon, despite Mendoza being unarmed, according to police reports.

The student was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Following a two-week investigation into the shooting, Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman said he fired Tippit, condemning his actions in a scathing video statement.

‘The authority that is entrusted to law enforcement officers is extraordinary, and with that authority comes a responsibility to exercise sound judgment, follow policy and uphold the standards that are expected by this profession,’ he said.

The move to fire Tippit within two weeks of the shooting marks a significant punishment from the sheriff’s department, with law enforcement officers typically placed on paid administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting.

In his video announcing Tippit’s firing, Stallman described Mendoza’s shooting death as a ‘tragedy’ and said ‘regardless of any investigation, he will not be forgotten.’

He said Texas Rangers were conducting an independent investigation into the shooting, and said the District Attorney’s office would determine whether Tippit will face charges.

The sheriff said that while he does not control whether Tippit will be prosecuted, he decided ‘based on the ongoing investigations and the information available to me’ that he would fire Tippit.

Stallman said his decision was ‘due to the policy violations’ and ‘the handling and discharging of his firearm’ during the traffic stop.

Brazoria County District Attorney Tom Selleck said on June 3 that his office was conducting a ‘thorough and comprehensive investigation’, and said the case would be presented to a grand jury to consider charges.

Selleck’s office said the process could take several months before evidence is gathered and presented to a grand jury.

Mendoza’s family said they were left heartbroken by the shooting, and called for justice for the Texas State freshman.

Mendoza’s sister, Allyson, said in a GoFundMe that they were fundraising ‘to help raise awareness, seek accountability, and honor the life of my little brother.’

Allyson alleged that Tippit had targeted her brother and followed him home from a park before shooting him ‘without warning or direction’.

She said paramedics took over 20 minutes to get to the scene, accusing emergency services of failing to arrive in time to save Mendoza.

‘Those lost minutes mattered. Where was the sense of urgency?? From the unjustified and aggressive use of force by the officer who shot John, to the delayed emergency response,’ she wrote.

‘John was failed at every stage. Our family is left with heartbreaking questions.’

Stallman also directly addressed Mendoza’s family in his video message, telling them: ‘John Gabriel Mendoza Jr. lost his life, your family lost a son, friends lost someone they loved.

‘Regardless of any outcome of any investigation, your family’s loss is permanent and your grief is real.

‘I can not begin to understand the pain that your family is experiencing, but I wanted you to know that your loss is seen and that John Mendoza Jr. will not be forgotten.’

Step-Grandmother of Accused Teen’s Killer Calls for Father’s Accountability: ‘A Dangerous Situation

0

The step-grandmother of Timothy Hudson, a 16-year-old accused of sexually assaulting and murdering his stepsister Anna Kepner, is calling for charges against the teens’ father. She blames him for permitting the siblings to drink and share a room during the ill-fated cruise.

Sonya Ziske, speaking with CBS News, staunchly defended Hudson. She expressed her belief that the tragedy was largely influenced by “alcohol” and “missing meds,” factors she claims played a significant role in the incident that Hudson says he cannot recall.

Ziske is urging that both Christopher Kepner, the father of the teens, and Shauntel Kepner, Hudson’s mother, be held accountable. She criticized them for what she described as a “lack of parental supervision on a cruise ship, which is often akin to a floating Sin City.”

In her comments to CBS News, she highlighted the dangers of “not ensuring medication is taken or available before departure, along with allowing drinking and placing three teenagers—two boys and a girl who were not raised together—in the same room.”

“It’s just a recipe for disaster,” she concluded.

Kepner, a bubbly, 18-year-old high school cheerleader, was found dead wrapped in a blanket and life jackets under her bed while on a Caribbean Carnival Cruise with family members in November in a cabin where she and Hudson had been rooming together on the six-day vacation.

Officials determined that Kepner was strangled and had been sexually assaulted. Hudson was charged with her murder — first as a juvenile and then as an adult.

Ziske — Shauntel Kepner’s stepmom — helped raise the accused killer, and denied reports that he was “raised to think of [Anna Kepner] as a sister.”

Hudson told his family that he has no memory of what happened, and Ziske “absolutely” believes it was due to a mixture of his medication — or lack of it — and booze. She said his story has remained consistent.

“He truly does not remember,” Ziske said. “Timothy has said that they were drinking. I believe 100% those kids were drinking on the ship.”

“He did not change from all the interviews that he has had. He has not changed what he has said at all. If there was any type of memory there, he wouldn’t be able to say the same exact thing,” Ziske insisted.

Shauntel and Chris Kepner have previously denied the children were drinking through their attorney during a family court hearing related to a custody battle, according to CBS News.

Shauntel Kepner’s attorney, Millicent Athanason, told a previous hearing that “there are videotapes on the ship that confirmed that there was absolutely no drinking.

Hudson has pleaded not guilty to the charges and, despite being charged as an adult, a federal judge has allowed him to stay with maternal uncle ahead of his trial.

Ziske claimed Christopher and Shauntel Kepner are unfit to have custody of the remaining children after Anna’s death on the cruise ship.

Shauntel “kept them isolated from everybody over here. From their dad, from their grandparents. From all of us,” Ziske said. “So, I don’t know the past two years. Like, if he was angry, or his mental state, I don’t know any of that.”

CBS News said an attorney for Chris and Shauntel Kepner did not respond to a request for comment.

Intense Tornadoes Devastate Illinois & Indiana: Officials Launch Urgent Recovery Efforts

0

In the wake of a powerful storm system that swept through areas south of Chicago, both authorities and residents were engaged in evaluating the destruction left behind. The fierce weather, which struck on Thursday, left approximately 380,000 households without electricity across Illinois and Indiana, while also causing significant disruptions to air travel.

Remarkably, there have been no immediate reports of fatalities or severe injuries resulting from the storms.

Merrillville, Indiana, situated about 33 miles southeast of Chicago, bore the brunt of the tempest. The town faced extensive destruction, with homes and other structures severely damaged, trees and power lines felled, and a portion of a high school’s roof torn away.

Local officials, supported by multiple regional agencies, took to social media to announce their collaborative efforts with first responders in searching and assessing the affected areas. Through the night, crews diligently worked to clear blocked roads.

The National Weather Service confirmed that at least two other tornadoes struck areas around Streator, Illinois, and Hebron, Indiana. Images and videos shared on social media depicted scenes of devastation akin to those in Merrillville. In the coming days, the Weather Service plans to conduct thorough surveys to determine the exact number of tornadoes that touched down in the region.

In Streator, a manufacturing and farm city about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southwest of Chicago, emergency crews were also inspecting the damage. A reunification center for displaced residents was set up in its city hall and the Red Cross opened a shelter.

Streator Mayor Tara Bedei said there were no reported deaths. “We are incredibly grateful for the safety of our residents and the quick action of emergency personnel,” she said in a statement.

First responders also worked through the night in Hebron, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southeast of Chicago, officials said in a Facebook post.

Jennifer Hall was in her garage in Elkhart, Indiana, as the winds and rain picked up Thursday evening. Suddenly, she said, she heard a loud crash and discovered a tree limb had gone through the roof of her rental home. She used buckets to catch the rain coming in from the hole.

“I’m just nervous because it’s just been one thing after another,” said Hall, explaining she just had surgery and her husband is out of town.

About 235,000 homes and businesses were without power in Illinois, including 144,000 in Cook County, home to Chicago, according to poweroutage.us. Another 144,000 customers were in the dark in Indiana.

The storms delayed or halted flights at airports in some cities, including Chicago, Philadelphia and New York on Thursday. Parts of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic also strained under high heat and humidity. On Friday morning, 15 flights were canceled and about two dozen delayed at Chicago’s O’Hare International and Midway International airports, a small percentage of total flights, according to FlightAware, a flight-tracking website.

The tornadoes came after severe storms swept through the Midwest on Wednesday, knocking out power, damaging buildings and canceling flights.

In Des Moines, Iowa, a 54-year-old man died at a homeless encampment in a park Wednesday after being hit by a tree that “broke apart and fell during strong storms,” police said in a statement. There were no immediate reports of other deaths or injuries from those storms.

US Reconsiders Military Action: Promises of an Imminent Peace Deal with Iran Emerge

0

In brief

  • The US has backed out of a promised wave of devastating strikes on Iran following a flare up in the Middle Eastern conflict.
  • Donald Trump has said a peace deal with Iran will be announced shortly.

In a surprising turn of events, Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he had called off planned US military strikes on Iran. The decision followed the approval of what he described as the “final points” of an initial peace agreement, with further details about a signing ceremony to be revealed soon.

Trump’s announcement came just hours after he had signaled the potential for continued military action against Iran, marking what would have been the third consecutive night of strikes. Despite this, Iran’s immediate response to the announcement was notably absent.

For several weeks, Trump has been vocal about the prospects of a peace deal with Iran, suggesting that an agreement to end ongoing hostilities was imminent. However, the semi-official Iranian news outlet, Fars News Agency, reported that Iran had not yet agreed to any formal text of such a deal.

Despite the apparent lack of alignment between the two nations, sources from both Iran and Western countries indicated to Reuters on Friday that negotiations aimed at establishing an interim peace agreement have gained momentum. This comes as a fragile ceasefire has been in effect since early April, offering a glimmer of hope for a more permanent resolution to the conflict.

Still, Iranian and Western sources told the Reuters news agency on Friday that efforts to reach an interim deal to end hostilities have intensified. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since early April.

Three Iranian sources said a political understanding had been reached, but some issues remained to be discussed in detail, including a mechanism for the release of tens of billions of dollars of Iranian oil revenues frozen in foreign banks.

The deal would temporarily ease Iran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz and end a US blockade on Iranian ports, the sources said. Unresolved questions over Iran’s nuclear development program and its stockpile of highly enriched uranium would be left for future talks.

It was unclear whether such a deal would satisfy critics within Trump’s Republican Party who say that any agreement must close Iran’s path to developing a nuclear weapon.

Analysts have said Trump is concerned that any deal will be compared with a 2015 agreement that he criticised as overly lenient. Trump pulled the US out of that accord in 2018 during his first term in office.

“Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved,” Trump said on social media.

“The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized — Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly,” he added. Since mid-April, the US has been blocking ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.

Trump said the agreement had been approved by “the highest level” of Iranian leadership, as well as other countries in the region including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

US stocks rose and oil prices fell on the news.

The war has killed thousands of people, mainly in Iran and Lebanon, and pushed up global oil prices since the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran on February 28.

Hardliners at home

Just over an hour before Trump’s post, Iran’s chief negotiator in the talks, parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, issued a stark warning.

“Wrong strategies and impulsive decisions will reset the entire board for the worse, explode energy infrastructure and markets and create an endless quagmire that you will be stuck in for years,” he said.

General Ali Abdollahi, head of the Iranian military’s central headquarters, warned that if the United States attacked, “it will receive a harsher response than before, and the flames of war, in addition to creating insecurity in the region, will become more widespread and far-reaching”.

Mediators Pakistan and Qatar had suggested back-channel efforts to negotiate an end to the war were ongoing in spite of the flare-up, though Islamabad cautioned it was “hard to be an optimist” in light of the escalation.

China, the biggest buyer of Iranian oil, had called for more negotiations, with a foreign ministry spokesperson urging the warring parties “to immediately cease military operations… (and) respond to the mediation efforts”.

Civilians living under threat of a renewed strike in Tehran were pessimistic. Majid, a 35-year-old pharmacist, told the Agence France-Presse news agency that the economic knock-on effects of the fighting were crippling normal life.

“I am absolutely not optimistic about the agreement being finalised, because the gap between the two countries is too wide,” he said, blaming the lack of progress on Israel —which also traded fire with Iran in recent days — as well as hardliners at home.

Iran has renewed its warnings over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for oil and gas transport that it has essentially closed since early in the war, roiling global energy markets. Iran’s new body overseeing the strait said it “will be closed until further notice”.

Expert Alert: Potential Red Sea Conflict Surge if Houthis Relaunch Campaign

0

Further complicating the geopolitical landscape, reports have surfaced about the United States potentially reducing its fighter jet presence in Europe. Heinrichs questions the prudence of this move, especially amid rising tensions with Russia, suggesting that the timing is less than ideal.

In response to escalating threats, the U.S. has taken action against new provocations in the Middle East. The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have recently threatened to block another crucial waterway, the Red Sea, declaring a ban on Israeli-owned vessels and labeling them as “legitimate targets.”

The significance of the Red Sea has grown, particularly its narrow Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, as it serves as the primary route for oil transported from the Middle East to Asia. This shift has occurred due to the reduced functionality of the Strait of Hormuz, which was formerly the main channel for shipping navigation.

Meanwhile, amid Houthi strikes on shipping routes near Sana’a, Yemen, demonstrators at a rally supporting Palestinians were seen trampling over British and U.S. flags on February 4, 2024, highlighting the region’s ongoing tensions. (Image: Mohammed Hamoud/Getty Images)

Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree posted on Monday, “We declare a complete and total ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, and we consider all enemy movements to be legitimate targets.”

In a statement to News Media, a State Department spokesperson struck back: “The escalatory actions of Iran and their Houthi proxies are unacceptable. These dangerous actions only serve to further enflame tensions and further disrupt global supply chains. We will continue to work with our partners to ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz.”

Edmund Fitton-Brown, a senior fellow at The Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told News Media, “The Houthis have indeed risen to the challenge, at least verbally. In common with much ‘Axis of Resistance’ rhetoric at present, the intention appears to be to leverage US political nervousness and market volatility, and to drive a wedge between the Americans and the Israelis.”

Suez Canal

Fitton-Brown, a former U.K. ambassador to Yemen added, “Provided the allies keep talking to each other, the Israelis respond proportionately, as they have done, and the Iranians continue to provoke President Trump with actions like the downing of the helicopter, these tactics are unlikely to achieve significant success.”

“It will be interesting if the Houthis do go all in, and resume their campaign against Red Sea shipping with full intensity,” Fitton-Brown said, adding, “This will draw international anger and likely result in Israeli and U.S. strikes on Sanaa and Hodeida. There is potential for a general escalation if this happens, albeit one in which the allies have a clear military advantage.”

Landlocked Ethiopia acts as regional anti-terrorism buffer

Such actions come as reports emerge that Ethiopia, the Red Sea region’s most populous country, is stepping up as a major U.S. ally against Islamic terrorism.

While landlocked, Ethiopia has a population of some 130 million, making it the largest nation in the Horn of Africa. Located near parts of the Red Sea corridor, the country is roughly 60% Christian, according to a recent report by the Association of Religion Data Archives.

And despite it being landlocked, Ethiopian researcher Blen M. Diriba told News Media that the country acts as a strategic roadblock or “a keystone state” on the Islamist expansionist ‘highway’ that has formed all the way from  Iran to Sudan.

Diriba, executive director of the Horn Review — an Addis Ababa-based research and publication think tank — told News Media that “Ethiopia, long a frontline U.S. security partner, now sits at the center of an expanding pressure zone where maritime disruption, insurgent violence, terrorist threats, and proxy competition converge.”

Diriba added. “Iran’s Bab el-Mandeb threat transforms the Horn of Africa into a militarized frontline, placing Ethiopia at the center of a chokepoint crisis. With Iranian influence radiating through conflict ecosystems in Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia, the region is beginning to resemble a continuous arc of instability stretching from the Arabian Peninsula into East Africa.”

“Ethiopia sits at the center of one of the world’s most combustible security corridors,” Diriba continued. “And in strategic terms, its relevance to the United States is amplified, not diminished, by that reality: From the Red Sea disruptions driven by the Houthis to the persistent insurgency threat of al-Shabab in Somalia, Ethiopia functions as a massive inland security buffer whose stability directly shapes whether these threats expand or are contained.”

But in addition to being pro-U.S., Ethiopia also has relations with Iran.

Fitton-Brown believes to some extent Ethiopia can be accused of playing both sides, as he said Tehran “has helped Ethiopia with its internal conflicts, giving drone support and military aid to the Ethiopian government during the recent Tigray War.”

He added, “There is a new memorandum of understanding built upon that basis, with Iran gaining influence in Ethiopia, while Ethiopia receives military, police and intelligence support to counter its domestic ethnic insurgencies.”

However, Diriba said, “Ethiopia’s engagement with Iran is neither affinity nor alignment, it’s strategic awareness: keeping channels open to engage where necessary, cooperate selectively, and strategically manage its relations with a complex regional actor, while firmly anchoring its core partnerships with its emerging and long-standing partners — the United States being on the top of that list.”

“Ethiopia has pursued a flexible multi-alignment strategy, Diriba said, “prioritizing its entrenched security partnership with Washington while keeping open channels with Tehran to preserve diplomatic room to maneuver in an increasingly fragmented Horn of Africa–Red Sea order.”

Fitton-Brown said relations between the U.S. and Ethiopia “are good, especially in the field of counterterrorism. Both countries use Somaliland to their advantage without having gone so far as to recognize it as an independent state.”

News Media reached out to both the Department of War and the Ethiopian government for comment, but received no response by the time of publication.

Trump Unveils Third Major Set of UFO Documents

0

In a move that continues to pique public interest, the Trump administration has unveiled a new collection of previously classified documents related to Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). This latest release adds a wealth of new materials, including documents, photographs, and videos, to the growing governmental archive dedicated to these mysterious occurrences.

These intriguing materials were discreetly made available on the Department of War’s website early Friday. Among them are several cases that have baffled investigators, leaving the true nature of these phenomena unresolved and open to speculation.

One of the standout items in this collection is a 2025 FBI report that details a peculiar video captured by a citizen in the northeastern United States. The witness described seeing a ‘brilliant red sphere’ the size of a basketball hovering over their backyard, a sight that remains unexplained.

Additionally, the release includes a previously unseen video depicting what officials have referred to as a ‘plasma-like sphere.’ This enigmatic object was observed hovering above a pond at an undisclosed location in the U.S., exhibiting unusual behavior as it appeared to change shape and brightness while in motion.

Another never-before-seen video shows what officials described as a ‘plasma-like sphere’ hovering above a pond at an undisclosed location in the US, appearing to shift shape and brightness as it moved.

Friday’s release also includes dozens of long-hidden CIA files about mysterious sightings, revealing that the agency assembled a panel of top scientists to investigate ‘flying saucers’ amid fears the reports could clog military warning systems and spark mass hysteria.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said in a statement: ‘The Department of War is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

‘These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation, and it’s time the American people see it for themselves. This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.’

Many of the images and videos in the release were submitted by American citizens, with officials noting that footage was captured using iPhones.

The FBI report describes the July 2025 sighting from a witness who parked their car after returning from work.

‘The light was hovering approximately 25 feet off the ground, below a tree line near the center of their backyard, at an estimated distance of 90 feet,’ officials stated.

The witness briefly stepped out of their vehicle before grabbing their phone to record the strange sight. Their spouse soon joined them outside to see what was happening.

‘The spouse also witnessed the light, describing it as a “brilliant red sphere” about one meter in diameter. The center of the red sphere appeared to be a white plasma “sun” about the size of a basketball,’ the report continued.

The FBI assessment explained that the object slowly rose into the air and drifted left, prompting both witnesses to notice a second identical orb hovering directly above it.

The witness then pulled out an iPhone 14 Pro Max and began recording as the two glowing objects moved westward over a nearby tree line. According to the report, the orbs traveled silently and smoothly, appearing to move in lockstep as if flying in formation or connected to one another.

As they disappeared from view, both witnesses said the objects appeared to merge into a single orb. They estimated the phenomenon traveled roughly 75 yards from its original position before vanishing.

The materials were quietly uploaded to the Department of War's website on Friday morning and include a series of cases that investigators were unable to definitively explain, leaving the nature of the phenomena unresolved

The sighting occurred within 25 miles of several other unexplained encounters, including the so-called ‘Triangle Orbs,’ ‘Red Orb Rotation’ and ‘Orbs Over the Pond’ incidents, in a sparsely populated area familiar to both witnesses.

The other unresolved video, also filmed in the northeastern US, is reported as showing a light source hovering over a pond at an estimated distance of 2,700 feet.

‘The luminous object resembled a “plasma-like sphere” intermittently changing shape and luminosity,’ the FBI description stated.

‘At times, the primary light source appeared to separate into smaller luminous points.’

A smaller luminous object could be seen hovering just above the water beneath the primary light source, appearing distinct from any reflection on the surface.

According to the report, the object remained largely stationary for about 45 minutes before suddenly disappearing. The witness reported hearing no sound at any point during the encounter.

The footage was captured by a private citizen using an iPhone and was later analyzed and authenticated by the US government. Officials said the video was cropped to protect the witness’s identity, but stressed that no other edits, enhancements or alterations were made to the footage.

Officials had previously indicated that the next UFO file release would include newly declassified CIA records, an agency that some whistleblowers have accused of playing a central role in concealing evidence of extraterrestrial activity.

However, the documents released Friday do not substantiate those allegations.

In one newly released CIA file labeled ‘Scientific Advisory Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects, Report, 1952-1953,’ officials warned that growing public fascination with flying saucers could become a national security risk by overwhelming military reporting channels and distracting personnel from genuine threats.

Among the cases discussed by the panel were the so-called ‘Foo Fighters,’ mysterious glowing objects reported by Allied pilots during World War II that appeared to fly alongside aircraft and perform unusual maneuvers.

The batch also includes a 1958 CIA memorandum detailing a conversation with Dr Leon Davidson about the alleged destruction of a mysterious ‘space message,’ and the device said to have transmitted it.

A censored version of the memo has long been publicly available.

Another newly released CIA record details a far more recent incident that reportedly triggered alarm within the intelligence community.

According to a cable dated July 2, 2008, CIA assets in Zimbabwe were placed on high alert after an unidentified object was spotted hovering above the country’s main airport in Harare.

The cable, which was circulated throughout the US government and military during the final months of the George W. Bush administration, described a craft that ‘hovered at an undetermined altitude directly over the Harare airport.’

This is a developing story… More updates to come.

David Faustino Shares Insight on Christina Applegate’s Challenging MS Journey

0

David Faustino, known for his role as Christina Applegate’s sibling on the iconic sitcom “Married… With Children,” recently shared insights into Applegate’s enduring humor amidst her battle with multiple sclerosis.

In a candid discussion with US Weekly, Faustino described Applegate’s MS diagnosis as “a real blow” but was quick to highlight her resilience, saying, “It’s been very hard for her, but she does keep her humor.”

Applegate, aged 54, has maintained her trademark wit despite her health struggles, according to Faustino, 52. He reminisced about her “dry, sarcastic sense of humor,” which has remained unchanged since they first met.

The actress, celebrated for her role in “Dead to Me,” continues to exhibit her “extremely sarcastic” and “extremely dry” humor, proving that her spirited nature is intact even in adversity.

Faustino emphasized that humor is Applegate’s way of coping, saying, “She gets through this with some humor, and that’s kind of her way that she moves through it.” He also mentioned his ongoing support for her since she publicly shared her diagnosis in June 2021.

Faustino also confirmed he’s in regular contact with the Emmy Award winner.

“I do a lot of visits with her. A lot of texting, a lot of checking in,” he said. “A lot of funny just crap that we talk about. And that’s all I can do, right? Give her my love.”

He added, “We do have deep convos when we sit. But we also keep the laughter [going] as well.”

Applegate and Faustino played siblings Kelly and Bud Bundy, respectively, in “Married… With Children.”

The sitcom, which aired on Fox from 1987 to 1997, also starred Ed O’Neill and Katey Sagal as their parents, Al and Peggy Bundy.

Applegate gave an update on her health in April after she was hospitalized in Los Angeles.

“Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes. Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough,” the “You With the Sad Eyes” author added.

Applegate’s rep wouldn’t confirm if the actress was hospitalized due to her autoimmune disease.

“I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are,” the rep told Page Six in a statement on April 16. “She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

In February, Applegate revealed she’s been confined to her bed due to ongoing pain, but she still tries to take her 15-year-old daughter, Sadie, to school.

“I want to take her; it’s my favorite thing to do. It’s the only time we have together by ourselves,” the “Friends” star explained.

“I tell myself, ‘Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.’ And that’s what I do,’” she added.

As England gears up for the World Cup, they’ve unveiled their pre-tournament squad photo, hoping to break a 60-year dry spell in North America.

Gone are the traditional suits and ties. Instead, under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel, the team has chosen a relaxed ensemble of t-shirts paired with trousers, complemented by a variety of blazers, jackets, and overshirts.

This stylish collection is crafted by Marks and Spencer, the official tailor for the England national team since 2007. Reflecting the trend towards more casual attire, M&S now holds the title of the FA’s official formalwear partner.

The M&S x England collection includes 12 pieces and is currently available online and in select stores throughout the UK.

Featuring 12 pieces, the M&S x England edit is available online now and in selected stores across the UK.

Prices in the collection start at £35 for a cotton t-shirt, with the blazer being the priciest item at £129. The lineup also features loafers, available in both black and brown, completing the team’s head-to-toe look.

M&S say the edit is ‘a modern, modular wardrobe designed for life off the pitch. Defined by elevated, tailored style, the collection blends signature British design with purpose-built functionality, created for the global stage. Built for movement, presence and impact, the wardrobe is designed for life on the move, reinforcing that style and function transcend the game’.

Mitch Hughes, director of menswear at M&S said: ‘Our long-standing partnership with The FA continues to evolve, and this collection starts a new chapter in our approach to modern formalwear for the England Senior Men’s team.

‘Designed as a refined 12-piece edit, it balances elevated tailoring with versatile staples that move seamlessly beyond the pitch. Ease and functionality remain central, with technical details including bi-stretch fabrication for comfort – great for travelling! – alongside breathable and storm wear finishes, suited to unpredictable weather conditions.

‘This season the focus has been on creating a flexible wardrobe that gives players the freedom to express their individual style while still delivering a strong, cohesive look.’

The FA’s commercial director James Gray added: ‘Our partnership with M&S, established in 2007, continues to reflect a shared commitment to football and to England supporters.

‘This next phase builds on that long-standing relationship and supports how the Men’s England Team is represented on the global stage. The collection has been developed with the squad in mind, and we expect it to be positively received by both players and supporters.’

Jude Bellingham, who was front row for the shoot, has been reflecting on the last tournament this week on the FA’s Lion’s Den show.

Despite England reaching the final of Euro 2024, losing against Spain in extra-time, Bellingham felt there was not enough unity in the squad.

‘At the Euros we got some things a little bit wrong off the pitch,’ Bellingham said. ‘I don’t think the group connected as well as it could have for a number of reasons, with the people there. Expectation is part of it – we had done well in 2018, Qatar and the Euros both times.

‘When it came to that tournament [2024 European Championship], we were seen as one of the two or three teams that should win it. We weren’t playing particularly, well which doesn’t help. When we were winning you didn’t get the feeling we were as happy as we should be.

‘There has to be that element of relentlessness where you want to win, but in football when you win that goes out of the system very quickly and I think we should have held on to that feeling more. So everyone has to be ready.

‘Everyone has to feel loved, everyone has to feel they are playing a part in the team. And just to enjoy the sessions, games and when we are suffering in games when your backs are against the wall.’

England will don their new garments when they arrive for their World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday.

Canada’s Coach Jesse Marsch Criticizes Lack of Anthem Pride in USA’s World Cup Team

0

Canada’s head coach, Jesse Marsch, has rekindled tensions with the United States by revealing how he once implored American players to sing their national anthem. Marsch, the first American to lead Canada’s men’s soccer team, offered this insight as a motivational tool for his current squad ahead of their upcoming match.

Previously, Marsch served as an assistant coach for the USA during the 2010 World Cup. Drawing from these past experiences, he shared a personal story on Thursday, aimed at galvanizing his Canadian team before their debut game on Friday.

Reflecting on his journey with the Canadian team, Marsch expressed admiration for the unity and camaraderie he observed. “From the moment I joined this team, I was struck by their genuine affection for one another, their shared experiences, and the pride they take in representing their nation,” he remarked.

He continued to emphasize the profound sense of national pride among his players, stating, “Each of these players embodies the spirit of Canada. Their commitment to wearing the jersey, representing the country, and honoring the national anthem is truly remarkable.”

‘Every one of these boys is incredibly Canadian and the pride they have in putting on the jersey, representing the country and hearing the national anthem.

‘In the US sometimes we had to beg players to sing the national anthem. These guys [Canada stars] belt it out to the top of their lungs because they want to show the country how proud they are to be Canadians and to represent what Canada is.’

During his time as an assistant coach for the USA, Marsch worked with the likes of Landon Donovan, Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey at the World Cup in South Africa.

Canada will kick-start their 2026 World Cup campaign against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Toronto Stadium on Friday afternoon.

‘We all know a home World Cup is special,’ he continued. ‘If you do this for a living, this is where you want to be. I came to Canada to lead them in a home World Cup; I wanted this responsibility. Nobody here is afraid of that.

‘Actually, this is why we’re doing it. Yeah, it’s responsibility, yeah, it’s pressure, but that’s what we want, it’s meaningful. I love sitting on that coach’s box when the stadium’s full, the pressure is on and everyone thinks you’re an idiot.’

Marsch became the first American ever to lead the Canadian national team following his appointment two years ago.

Canada will start their tournament on Friday, before taking on Switzerland, on June 24, and Qatar, on June 18, in the weeks that follow.

Meanwhile, the USA will also start their World Cup campaign on Friday afternoon against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Recently, head coach Mauricio Pochettino claimed that he believes the USA’s World Cup campaign can create the same hysteria that is gripping New York as the Knicks chase a first NBA championship in 50 years.

Does singing the national anthem truly reflect a player’s pride and commitment to their country?

Fans poured on to the streets of Manhattan earlier this week after the Knicks moved to within one win of a first title since 1973. Many of Pochettino’s players also lost their minds at their California base after New York’s stunning comeback win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.

There were even more remarkable scenes in Argentina – Pochettino’s homeland – four years ago, when Lionel Messi led his nation to World Cup glory.

Soccer has long struggled to captivate America like other sports but on the eve of the USMNT’s opening game against Paraguay in Los Angeles , the head coach was asked how his players can inspire the same hype.

‘I think it’s contagious and we need to play with passion, we need to win games – that’s very important… [we need] to make the fans feel proud about what they are seeing on the field,’ he said.

‘To create that emotional relationship and then you will do the rest – try to encourage the people to celebrate – but we need to win. The important thing is to win.’
