Ample Tickets Remain Available for England’s World Cup Opening Match

0

As England gears up for their first World Cup match against Croatia next Wednesday, a significant number of tickets remain unsold, potentially adding to FIFA’s woes.

The organization has faced intense backlash over the steep ticket prices for tournament games, with fans alleging that such costs have sidelined everyday supporters.

Despite FIFA’s claims of receiving an ‘unprecedented’ 500 million booking requests and their efforts to justify the pricing strategy, they have been compelled to lower some ticket prices in hopes of drawing more fans to the games in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

The tournament’s opening night saw many empty seats during South Korea’s game against Czechia in Guadalajara, hinting at a trend that could affect other matches.

This situation is mirrored in the upcoming England vs. Croatia face-off in Texas, where numerous tickets remain available both on official channels and through resale platforms.

The lowest price for a ticket is $867 (£648), with fans able to go all the way up to $9,225 (£6,900) for a ticket and meal package that has access to a VIP lounge.

Meanwhile, hospitality tickets on the FIFA website range from $2,430 (£1,811) to $3,150 (£2,347).

The $2,430 ticket comes in the ‘Champions Club’ and it is described as: ‘Featuring Preferred Seating view seats located just steps from exclusive, vibrant hospitality spaces that offer premium beverage service and full-course dining, available pre and post-match.’

On another resale website, tickets for England’s second group game against Ghana in Boston range from £423 all the way to £4,354.

For the following match against Panama, the lowest price for a ticket via resale is £513, rising up to £6,678.

Speaking ahead of the tournament at a press conference, Infantino insisted the average price of tickets was below $500, and defended his organisation by saying the cost was comparable to what it was to attend big matches in US sports.

He added: ‘If you sell it at a lower price point, in this particular market it would have gone – which is perfectly legal in this country… in secondary markets at much, much, much higher prices and where would the money go then?

‘Well, to those who organise secondary markets or black market activities and not to football.

‘If we are doing something wrong, then probably everyone selling tickets in North America is doing something wrong, as well.’

Meanwhile, a report in the Financial Times earlier this week suggested almost 180,000 tickets for the group stage are still available on official resale platforms.

The report added that around 4,400 tickets were on the platform for the USA’s opening game against Paraguay on Saturday morning (GMT), with the cheapest ticket available directly from FIFA costing $1,120 (£838.20).

Tickets for some of the least popular group stage matches remain on sale for more than $300 (£223).

Ticket prices also don’t include the wider costs associated with attending the tournament, including travel and accommodation across North America.

During South Korea’s game with Czechia on Thursday, the stadium in Guadalajara in the west of Mexico was not full.

The stadium announcer claimed the 45,664-capacity ground had 44,985 people inside.

Yet TV coverage showed swathes of empty seats, particularly in VIP areas – far more than the 700-or-so that FIFA claimed were not taken in a city with 5.6million residents alone.

Mexico’s 2-0 victory against South Africa earlier in the day was watched by an 83,264 sell-out crowd at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, but the opening day of the tournament proved to be a chaotic one for FIFA.

Violent protests erupted outside the stadium ahead of that game as thousands of protesters hit the capital to voice rage over missing citizens and poor labour conditions.

The massive demonstrations were fueled by a coalition of multiple unions and activist groups marching to draw global eyes to the country’s severe domestic issues.

The most prominent groups mobilising included searching mothers’ collectives, the CNTE teachers’ union, federal judiciary workers and various transport organisations. In total, it was reported that eight simultaneous protests took place on Thursday.

Human rights groups have thrown a spotlight on the country’s staggering missing-persons epidemic, which continues to plague tens of thousands of families.

According to Mexico’s National Registry, there are currently 134,460 recorded missing persons across the nation, a figure that continues to rise rapidly.

However, some of the protests turned violent as petrol bombs and bricks were hurled at Mexican police, while others tried to force themselves into the Azteca without tickets.

There were also chaotic scenes at the free admission fan park in Zocalo plaza near to the ground just over an hour before kickoff.

Access to the fan fest was hampered by metal barriers erected in recent days to prevent protesting teachers from reaching the area. But thousands of fans attempted to shove their way into the fan zone, according to AFP.

‘Stop pushing and shoving, there are children here, you’re like animals!’ a city official shouted through a megaphone as he tried to control access to the fan venue.

Some fans threw water bottles and hurled insults at police, as well as chanting in support of the Mexican team.

The local government then announced on social media that the site was ‘full’ and suggested fans go to other plazas.

Meanwhile, Shakira kicked off the tournament at a vibrant opening ceremony at the Azteca.

Alongside Burna Boy, she performed Dai Dai, the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to headline the festivities.

In a spectacle of colour and sound, hundreds of dancers joined the Colombian singer, who turned heads in a neon yellow bodysuit and white miniskirts, on the stage at the centre of the pitch.

Thousands of fans went wild inside the Azteca as Shakira, who also recorded the official anthem for the 2010 World Cup, shimmied her hips amid the sea of backup dancers.

She lit up the arena with her signature dance moves and trademark high-energy as she was joined by a traditional Mexican mariachi band.

A massive gold replica of the World Cup trophy then erupted from the ground at the centre of the stage as a stream of dancers in brightly colored outfits burst out alongside the statue.

The jam-packed show also featured performances from Alejandro Fernandez, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Angeles Azules, Mana and Tyla – all of whom featured on the first-ever FIFA World Cup album.

Shakira’s fellow Colombian, rapper J Balvin, was one of the biggest headlining acts at the ceremony, strutting on stage before Shakira’s appearance.

J Balvin, one of the biggest artists in Latin America, performed alongside singer Ryan Castro after Mexican pop-rock legends Mana warmed up the home crowd with their classic hits.

Mexican actress and FIFA ambassador Salma Hayek was then tasked with officially opening the tournament.

She delivered a short welcome speech before the ceremonial display of national flags and was later spotted in the stands alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

South African singer Tyla performed her nation’s national anthem ahead of kick-off, before she later took a seat alongside reggaeton singer Becky G, who, despite being born in the US, proudly embraces her Mexican heritage and supports El Tri.

The action continues this evening when fellow co-hosts Canada and USA are in action.

Canada take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto at 8pm (BST), before the US play Paraguay in Los Angeles at 2am (BST).

Kim Kardashian Stuns in Eco-Friendly Glamour with Chic Black Faux-Fur Coat

Kim Kardashian radiated elegance as she graced the streets of Paris, France, on Sunday evening, draped in a luxurious black faux-fur coat. The 43-year-old mogul, known for her fashion-forward flair, made quite an entrance as she gracefully exited her private vehicle, making her way to an undisclosed dinner venue.

Her oversized coat, a striking piece that commanded attention, served both as a style statement and a means of maintaining a touch of mystery. To complete her chic ensemble, Kim opted for blackout sunglasses, adding an air of enigma to her look.

Accessorizing with a sleek black handbag, she stepped out in pointed court heels that perfectly complemented her sophisticated attire. Earlier in the day, the reality TV icon was spotted at the Balenciaga runway show, further solidifying her presence in the fashion capital.

Despite her attempts to keep a low profile, Kim graciously paused to sign autographs for her fans as she approached the restaurant, showcasing her appreciation for their unwavering support.

The reality star, who attended the Balenciaga catwalk earlier in the day, kindly signed autographs for fans as she approached the eatery.

Kim appeared to make a major fashion blunder as she led the arrivals to the star-studded Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week on Sunday morning.

The mother-of-four flaunted her hourglass physique in a figure-hugging black lace dress as she posed up a storm for the cameras.

However, many eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice the large price tag was still attached the dress.

As Kim headed to watch the runway show, the tag swung behind her freely, but was then seemingly absent when she made it inside the venue to sit on the front row.

However, she often opts for fashion forward looks and unconventional outfits, meaning the tag was likely to have been an intentional accessory and talking point.

It comes after earlier this year Kim was blasted by fans after revealing she has become an ambassador for Balenciaga, one year after the brand faced controversy for an advert featuring children and BDSM items.

She announced her partnership with the label, helmed by creative director Demna Gvasalia, in January.

She previously refused to cut ties with the fashion house but said she was ‘shaken and disgusted’ by the images which sparked a backlash against the brand.

Since then, she has made her loyalty clear by participating in an ad for Balenciaga’s upcoming Summer 2024 collection.

After announcing her new partnership many fans were left disappointed by the decision and hit back at her statement, in which she wrote that her relationship with the brand was built on a ‘commitment to doing what’s right.’

‘Of all the brands, she had to choose the one with child abuse allegations. Not even surprised though…’ one person wrote, while another branded her a ‘hypocrite’ adding, ‘Money is all that matters to her.’

Another person accused Kim of throwing her ‘morals out of the window’ for money, while someone else added, ‘Anything for money and a higher net worth I guess.’

Others called the SKIMS founder out for hypocritical behaviour: ‘So basically she said f**k Balenciaga when they were getting backlash but now that its safe for her brand she’s back??’

Many others hit out against the brand, calling it ‘trash’ and ‘canceled.’

Kim’s full statement about becoming an ambassador for the brand read: ‘For several years now, Balenciaga’s designs have been a part of my many looks – and some of my most iconic fashion moments.’

‘This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship and takes an innovative approach to design under Demna.’

‘For me, this long-standing relationship is built on mutual trust and a commitment to doing what’s right. I’m excited about this next chapter for the brand and to become their ambassador.’

Kim has starred in Balenciaga campaigns, walked in their show and accompanied Demna to the 2021 Met Gala.

After Balenciaga’s ill-judged campaign, Kim shared a statement to her Instagram where she wrote: ‘I have been quiet for the past few days, not because I haven’t been shocked and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns, but because I wanted an opportunity to speak to their team to understand for myself how this could have happened.

‘As a mother of four, I have been shaken by those disturbing images. The safety of children must be held with the highest regard and anything against it should have no place in our society – period.’

She subsequently reissued the statement that saw some of the wording changed using stronger language adding: ‘any attempts to normalize child abuse of any kind should have no place in our society – period.’

Tragic TikTok Challenge: New York 6th Grader’s Identity Revealed After Fatal Choking Incident

0

A tragic incident unfolded at a New York school where a 12-year-old boy, who tragically choked to death, has been identified. Police are now exploring the possibility that his death is linked to a viral TikTok challenge.

Jacob Medina, a sixth-grade student at Sonia Sotomayor Community School in Yonkers, began choking in the hallway while on his way to class Wednesday morning. Officials suspect he may have been eating a doughnut at the time.

Adults nearby quickly rushed to his aid, according to Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Anibal Soler Jr., who spoke with NBC New York about the incident.

“Jacob was with an adult when the choking signs appeared,” Soler Jr. explained.

“Immediately, that adult was present to assist, and within mere seconds—probably less than 10 seconds—additional adults arrived to attempt emergency life-saving measures for the young boy,” he continued.

However, they were unable to save him, and Jacob was pronounced dead after being rushed to St. Joseph’s hospital.

Investigators are now probing whether his death was tied to the popular “One Bite” social media trend, in which users attempt to eat as much as possible in a single bite.

“Anything about a TikTok challenge, anything about witness statements, we are going to investigate,” confirmed Yonkers Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza.

School officials stressed that they are not certain the internet challenge was involved in the tragedy.

Investigators are looking into Jacob’s health history, including whether he had any allergies.

He started choking just before noon on the fourth-floor hallway and may have bought the doughnut at school as part of a fundraiser, sources told CBS News.

On Thursday evening, flowers and candles were placed in front of the school by family members in tribute to Jacob, who they remembered as a loving boy who cared about his cousins.

“This young man was a bright light in the building,” Soler Jr. said Thursday. “Everybody loved him, everybody knew him. He was energy, he was joy.”

Family Urgently Seeks Help as Burke County Woman Remains Missing for Fourth Day

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. () – As the search for a missing Burke County woman stretches into its fourth day, investigators are intensifying their efforts, while her family continues to urge the community for assistance in locating her.

Starr Moretti, aged 31, was reported missing after she left her residence on Terrell Forth Road this past Sunday, sparking a comprehensive search operation spearheaded by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Dedicated search teams have scoured the county, employing drones, K-9 units, UTVs, and ground personnel to cover expansive wooded regions. On Thursday, the search was bolstered by the addition of a mounted search and rescue team to navigate challenging terrains and dense forested areas.

Efforts have been concentrated around several key locations, including Terrell Forth Road, Dixon Hendrick Road, Quaker Road, Massey-Doss Road, and Highway 80, as authorities work tirelessly to uncover any clues that might lead to her whereabouts.

By late Thursday afternoon, Lt. Heather Sims, who is leading the investigation, made the decision to suspend the day’s search activities. Despite the exhaustive endeavors, the investigation has yet to yield any promising leads.

Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams said law enforcement agencies, volunteers and community members remain committed to finding answers.

“The fact that you’re here, the fact that I am here, the fact that this family is here, we’re flanked by experience and it takes all of us,” Williams said. “We’re not leaving any stone unturned.”

Williams acknowledged concerns increase as time passes.

“We’re not running from the fact that every day that goes by makes us even more concerned,” Williams said. “Time is certainly not on our side, but we have no reason to suspect foul play.”

Investigators continue asking residents to review security footage and report anything unusual.

“We’re asking neighbors, anybody in the area who lives in the area, who travels the area, to call with any unusual or suspicious activity,” Williams said. “Check your Ring doorbell cameras, check your property cameras, your security footage.”

As the search continues, Moretti’s family says they want the community to understand the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Her mother, Crystal Moretti, said her daughter was experiencing a mental health crisis before she vanished.

“She’s not violent. She is just trying to get help,” Crystal Moretti said. “She is mentally upset right now. She hears voices. She talks to herself. She does not function as an adult, even though she looks like an adult.”

According to her mother, Starr Moretti had recently been diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder after seeking medical treatment.

While investigators continue searching, Crystal Moretti says her family remains hopeful.

“Just come back home,” she said. “We call her my little runaway bunny. She just needs to come back home, that’s all. Or come to the nearest person. And then please, whoever you are, please call 911 so that the police can come and take her to a hospital.”

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says Starr Moretti may be a danger to herself and is urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact investigators immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Family of Austin Metcalf Receives Threats Amid Allegations Against Karmelo Anthony Fans

0

In the wake of Karmelo Anthony’s murder conviction, tensions have escalated, with reports of violence emerging from his supporters. Meanwhile, the family of Austin Metcalf, the teenager Anthony was found guilty of stabbing to death, has been inundated with death threats since the trial concluded.

Both Anthony and Metcalf were just 17 years old when the tragic incident occurred during a high school track meet in April of the previous year. The conviction has sparked a wave of unrest among Anthony’s followers, who are struggling to come to terms with the outcome.

Earlier this week, Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison after being found guilty of murder. His legal team has promptly filed an appeal, seeking to overturn the conviction, as they continue to fight for his freedom.

Amidst the legal proceedings, disturbing reports have surfaced, detailing aggressive actions by Anthony’s supporters. A video circulating on social media, purportedly originating from Jacksonville, Florida, depicts a cyclist assaulting a pedestrian, filmed from the cyclist’s perspective. Such incidents highlight the volatile atmosphere surrounding the case.

The case has drawn significant attention, shining a spotlight on the deep divisions that can arise in the aftermath of a high-profile conviction. As the situation develops, the community remains on edge, grappling with the complex emotions and implications of the trial’s outcome.

The alleged attacker questioned the victim, asking if he was on the Anthony trial jury selection.

In that video, a woman’s voice can be heard stating the man who was allegedly punched is a veteran.

In a statement sent to News Media regarding the alleged incident, the Jacksonville Police Department said, “We are aware of this video circulating on social media and are actively looking into the video’s origin and parties involved.”

While threats continue, it appears yet another fundraiser for Anthony was circulating online.

In a statement sent to News Media, GoFundMe said:

“GoFundMe’s Terms of Service explicitly prohibit fundraisers that raise money for the legal defense of anyone formally charged with a violent crime. Consistent with this long-standing policy, any fundraising campaigns for the legal defense of someone charged with murder are removed from the platform and fully refunded. As such, the fundraiser has been removed from the platform and the $726 raised has been refunded.”

Jurors on the case have yet to speak publicly about the verdict.

As for the Metcalf family, the threats keep coming.

According to TMZ, a family member received a text that said, “He [Austin] —— around and found out,” insinuating the victim possibly provoked Anthony to fatally stab him.

Another one of the messages sent read, “Should’ve stabbed hunter too.” Hunter is Austin’s twin brother.

People are allegedly “threatening to show up to Metcalf family homes, taunting them by saying they’re soiling Austin’s grave,” TMZ reported.

It was not immediately clear who sent the texts and to which family member specifically they were sent.

Jeff Metcalf told CBS after the trial that he is still receiving death threats and previously had his personal information released.

Last August, police responded to 911 calls with the SWAT team showing up to the Metcalfs’ Frisco, Texas, home with guns drawn, the outlet reported.

News Media has reached out to the Metcalf family and the Frisco Police Department for comment on the threats.

Karen Sutton Opens Up About Rediscovering Intimacy After Her Husband’s Passing

0

As I looked at the man sleeping beside me, my bare skin against his, a whirlwind of emotions surged within me.

Happiness, guilt, relief, confusion, and sadness all mingled as I reflected on the intimate night we had just experienced.

This man was not my husband, yet my inner turmoil wasn’t from infidelity.

Rather, he was the first person I had been close with since my husband of six years, Simon, had tragically passed away from a sudden heart attack less than a year ago, at only 43 years old. I was 39 at the time.

Initially, I submerged my grief by focusing on our two daughters. However, nine months after Simon’s passing, I began to feel a renewed longing for closeness and intimacy.

I signed up for a dating app for the first time – which is how I’d found myself sharing a bed with this man a few months later.

I’m not alone in seeking intimacy in the wake of a partner’s death. It’s a phenomenon known as ‘widow’s fire’, and many find it takes them by surprise at an already emotionally complex time. Yet it’s a very human response.

Sadly, not everyone is so understanding. ‘Widow’s fire’ can be a hugely taboo and divisive topic and I’ve found the harshest judgment often comes from other widows.

After meeting my current partner Andy in 2019, and becoming the UK’s first ‘widow coach’ a year later, I began sharing my widowhood journey on social media – which includes sleeping with four men since Simon, including Andy.

I’ve since been told by fellow widows that I must not have loved my husband. That I’m ‘disrespecting’ his memory.

Karen says she had such a happy marriage with Simon, who she wed in 2010, and never assumed she'd ever sleep with anyone else again

Karen says she had such a happy marriage with Simon, who she wed in 2010, and never assumed she’d ever sleep with anyone else again

The couple, who met in their 20s, had two daughters together, who are now 14 and 19

The couple, who met in their 20s, had two daughters together, who are now 14 and 19

For me, it was only natural not to want to be alone and celibate for the rest of my life, and many people have been supportive of that. Yet some women seemed to take pride in living in a state of perpetual sadness; in putting their own needs and wants on hold for ever. And they had no qualms about telling me I was in the wrong.

But the backlash only confirmed to me why my role as a widow coach is so important, so that I can help other women through this minefield.

I reassure my clients it’s perfectly natural – and acceptable – to seek out pleasure as part of the journey that begins when a partner dies.

I first met Simon in 1998, when I was 21 and he was 25. We were friends for five years before feelings developed and we became a couple. We had our first daughter, now 19, before marrying in 2010 and having our second child, now 14.

We had such a happy marriage, filled with plans for the future, never imagining it would be cruelly snatched away.

One Sunday, in September 2016, Simon was out on a bike ride near our home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, and suffered a cardiac arrest. Fit and healthy, it was a huge shock.

In a split second, his life was over – and mine changed for ever. Learning he was gone, and that I was a widow at 39, with two little girls to raise alone, was absolutely devastating. At first, all of my energy was poured into the girls. What can be more destabilising than your father suddenly disappearing?

Yet, despite my grief, I quickly became resolved that losing Simon was not going to negatively define my life.

I knew he wouldn’t have wanted me, or our daughters, to become victims; we needed to be survivors of grief instead.

Perhaps that determination influenced what I began to feel as the months passed: loneliness and, confusingly, a craving for sexual intimacy.

When we’d married, I had happily assumed I’d never sleep with anyone else again.

Yet now I wanted to feel ‘alive’, for my heart to race with excitement, to lose myself in the moment with someone. My life had gone on – and I needed to demonstrate that in the most physical of ways. I missed being someone other than a widow.

So, around nine months after Simon died, I decided to put myself ‘out there’.

I joined some dating apps in the summer of 2017 and over the next two years slept with three men, with whom I had short-term relationships.

At that stage, I didn’t feel emotionally capable of anything more permanent. Nor, as a single mum, was I in a place to have multiple casual flings.

I was upfront in my dating bio that I was a widow. It was a fine line between not wanting it to define me, but also wanting to be transparent.

Karen was made a widow at the age of 39 with two young daughters to raise all by herself. She was worried about introducing another man to her children after their father's death

Karen was made a widow at the age of 39 with two young daughters to raise all by herself. She was worried about introducing another man to her children after their father’s death

The truth was, it was all incredibly strange.

With Simon, who knew every inch of me, I wasn’t remotely self-conscious about the stretch marks and signs of ageing that accessorised my 40-year-old mum’s body.

With these new men, sex felt exposing in every sense.

Being in bed with someone new was a poignant reminder of how dramatically my life had changed, but also a reason to believe there was a life still to be lived. I enjoyed feeling desired again, and I knew Simon would not have wanted me to deny myself sexual pleasure. Yet it was still hard to shake off the feeling I was somehow being unfaithful.

Fortunately my friends were very supportive. They told me I was still a young woman, and I should be guided by my own feelings and not worry about whether I was being a ‘good’ widow.

But by early 2019 I decided to step back from dating.

I realised that part of my decision to be sexually active again had been in the hope it would help heal my grief. That if I could find excitement and joy again, it would go some way towards soothing the deep pain I carried.

But, really, healing needed to come from within me.

I never regretted those new lovers, though. I saw them as part of my journey as I rebuilt my life and identity.

Ironically, within months I met my partner Andy in May 2019 at a charity event. I felt an instant connection and couldn’t stop thinking about him.

I decided it would be a mistake not to get to know him better.

We began dating in June 2019 and, once again, I found myself battling worry that I wasn’t ‘widowing’ properly. I was falling for him, but still there was that sense I was betraying Simon.

I also worried about introducing another man to my children.

Karen with her new partner Andy, who she met in May 2019

The girls were 12 and eight when I first introduced them after two months of dating, having already explained that I had met a lovely man and was spending time with him. My youngest, Ella, was simply very excited. The older, Sydney, initially more apprehensive.

As they got to know Andy, Ella went through a phase of not wanting her daddy to be ‘replaced’. I reassured her Simon would always be her dad and so special to us.

Sydney, older and more mature, was accepting of my relationship, and over time they both developed their own bond with Andy.

Crucially, Andy didn’t feel threatened by the love I still had for Simon.

That’s not to say it was easy, navigating this kind of duality –the memories of my old self, jostling for room with this new me. It takes time.

In 2020, as my relationship with Andy continued to strengthen, I began a new career, having previously worked for the NHS.

After undertaking training in health and life coaching, as well as grief educator programmes, I became the first ‘widow coach’ in the UK, using my experience to support others like me.

I help people discover their own path through loss, and that includes seeking out new sexual partners, if that’s what will help them heal.

I advise my clients to think carefully before dipping their toe back into the dating pool.

You need to know what you’re looking for. Is it a casual relationship, something physical and fun without commitment? Or are they seeking a partner to begin a new chapter with? Either is fine, but be sure which is for you.

We are already so vulnerable, the last thing we need is to feel disappointed, rejected or taken advantage of, particularly when the dating landscape can be so ruthless and widows often become a target for men with less-than-honourable intentions.

I hear from clients how they, like me, have felt judged by other widows who have chosen to remain single and celibate, and how painful that is to bear.

To anyone who would condemn a bereaved woman for wanting intimacy or a new relationship, I would ask: is this really who you are? Someone who would deny another widow happiness, comfort and a new beginning after the worst time of her life?

As a community we should be respectful of each other’s choices to ‘move forward’ – or not – when it comes to relationships. Nobody is right or wrong.

Andy and I moved in together in 2021. With him, I have what I also had with Simon – a sex life founded on love, an emotional bond and a feeling of complete safety and stability.

I know now that this is what I was searching for when I returned to dating after being widowed.

I tell clients also experiencing widow’s fire that there is no shame in wanting sex after loss.

Our partners died but we did not, and we deserve a life that includes pleasure and intimacy as much as anyone else.

From Misery to Hope: How NYC’s Diehard Fan Found a Silver Lining in the Knicks’ Revival

0

A Knicks fan is experiencing a shift in loyalty.

Once known for capitalizing on New York’s sports frustrations, a long-time Knicks supporter has embraced a new outlook. With the team on the brink of clinching its first championship in 53 years, the fan is enthusiastically promoting optimistic merchandise, rallying behind the chant “Go NY Go NY Go!”

“I’ve been sharing my genuine excitement and reflecting on how far we’ve come over the past 10 to 15 years,” said Justin Silberlust, the creator of “Forever Next Year NY,” in an interview with The Post. He expressed his joy over New York’s remarkable journey to the finals.

“There was a time when we felt hopeless, but now look where we are,” added the 28-year-old Dix Hills resident, still in disbelief over the historic Game 4 comeback this past Wednesday. The Knicks overturned a 29-point deficit to secure a nail-biting 107-106 victory against the Spurs.

Silberlust has quickly become an online sensation, embodying the unwavering faith of Knicks fans. This follows his previous success with a brand that resonated with the shared experience of New York sports disappointments.

Mike Brown’s group has inspired enough hope that the entrepreneur has had to rebrand from “Forever Next Year” to merchandise like blue-and-orange basketball t-shirts that read “next year is now.”

“Finally getting to the finals, for the first time in 27 years,” he said, “people have really been resonating with the ‘Forever Is Now’ slogan.”

“We were always saying, there’s always next year,” Silberlust said of the Brooklyn Dodgers favorite phrase that became a one-size-fits-all for the local teams.

The finance worker is also a glutton for punishment — making the prospect of beating San Antonio for the Knicks’ first NBA title since 1973 even more savory.

He’s aligned himself in the Bermuda Triangle of God-awful fandom, pulling for the Jets and the Mets — two teams completing the trifecta of what’s been an entire young lifetime without a single championship.

“It feels like it’s never going to happen. It feels like we’re always going to be saying this.”

Silberlust took action on his sports demons in 2025, having his brother Jared build a website featuring count-up tickers for his favorite teams’ lengthy title droughts —1986 for the Mets and 1969 for the Jets.

Soon after, he turned the angst into a viral side hustle clothing and social media brand about the toxic relationships.

“We’re always going to be showing up for these teams every single year, almost just out of blind loyalty, out of this delusion,” said Silberlust, who hard launched during the Mets’ September collapse last year.

“Being a Mets, Jets, Knicks fan is just my personality, it’s who I am…I combined this idea of this hope that just doesn’t seem to go away with this frustration.”

Fans identified with the hopeless sports romantic and apparel in the local teams’ colors, displaying the gut-punching “Forever Next Year NY” phrase, which said all too much — and apparently by all ages.

“I’ve had 83-year-old grandmas email me, saying that they love the merch.”

Many also quickly signed on for Silberlust’s videos highlighting cheery but dead end times of the past, like that of Jeremy Lin turning Madison Square Garden into “Linsainity” circa 2011.

“I’ve grown my following from about 1,200 followers. Today, I have almost 15,000 across platforms.”

He didn’t do it to state the obvious; instead, “I wanted to reverse the curse.”

As the Knicks take a 3-1 stranglehold on the series, Silberlust can already start to feel the “out of body experience” of finally seeing one of his teams reign supreme.

“We have waited for a while, but we’re here right now,” he said. “We’re going to embrace it. We’re going to be happy about it.”

AP-NORC Poll Reveals Decline in Independent Voter Support for Trump

0

As President Donald Trump navigates his second term in office, a noticeable shift is occurring among independent voters, particularly those lacking a college degree. According to a comprehensive analysis conducted by AP-NORC, these independents are expressing growing dissatisfaction with Trump’s leadership.

The analysis, which synthesizes data from nearly two dozen polls conducted between July 2024 and April 2026, provides a detailed view of how Trump’s support has fluctuated during key periods of his presidency. These include the latter half of 2024, the pivotal first 100 days of his term, the summer of 2025 marked by the passage of the Big Beautiful Bill, last fall’s government shutdown, and the onset of the Iran conflict.

This compiled data reveals a consistent downward trend in Trump’s approval among independents throughout his second term. Notably, support has waned among smaller yet significant demographic groups such as Black and Hispanic independents, who had leaned more towards Trump during the 2024 election.

With an increasing number of Americans identifying as independents, any decline in their support could spell trouble for Trump and the Republican Party as they approach the midterm elections. These elections often serve as a barometer for public approval of the ruling party’s performance.

Tafari Torres, a senior research associate at NORC and co-author of the analysis, highlighted that while Democrats’ and Republicans’ opinions on Trump have remained relatively stable, the views of independents continue to shift. “Independents are, broadly, the people who are reacting to the events and dropping in their support,” Torres explained.

Dramatic declines during Trump’s first 100 days

Trump’s return to the White House was fueled, in part, by independent voters who saw him as the stronger candidate on key issues like the economy. The new analysis, which looks at Trump’s favorability and presidential approval ratings, shows that once he took the helm, their views soured quickly.

Independents without a college degree had a much more positive view of Trump than college-educated independents did during and just after the 2024 election, but that shifted in the first few months of his term. Positive views of Trump among independents without a college degree fell from 48% in the months before he returned to office to 31% in polling conducted during Trump’s first 100 days back in office. Those warm views declined even further, to about one-quarter, during the government shutdown and the early months of 2026.

Only about 3 in 10 college-educated independents, by contrast, had a positive view of Trump before he returned to office, making their drop to about one-quarter much less dramatic.

“The decline among no-college independents was steeper and it was greater than the slight decline in college independents,” said Sean Collins, a research associate at NORC who co-authored the analysis. “That was surprising, especially given, when you think of Trump’s coalitions, those without college degrees is usually one of the ones that that stands out.”

Hispanic, younger independents grow disenchanted

Americans without a college degree have long been a key part of Trump’s coalition. But Trump also won in 2024 by making gains among groups that tend to support Democrats, including Hispanic adults.

About 4 in 10 independent voters — 42% — voted for Trump in 2024, up from 37% in the 2020 presidential election. Independent voters without a college degree were a little more likely to back Trump over former Vice President Kamala Harris in the last election, according to AP VoteCast, and Hispanic independents were about evenly split between the two.

The picture looks much bleaker for the president now.

Nearly half of Hispanic independents — 46% — saw Trump favorably in the polling conducted around the presidential election. His approval among these adults dropped quickly in his second term, falling as low as 15% during last fall’s government shutdown before landing around one-quarter in the spring.

Younger independents also became less supportive of the president, while independents age 60 and older remained mostly stable. Other AP-NORC polling has pointed to Trump losing ground among younger Republicans over inflation concerns and Hispanic Americans growing increasingly discontented.

“The gains Trump appeared to make during the election, I don’t know if they’re sticking around. He’s experienced some significant shifts among those people,” Torres said. ”From our research, they don’t appear to be permanent gains.”

The economy is frustrating many independents

Polling suggests that the economy as at the root of many Americans’ frustrations with Trump, including independents.

About half of independents who supported Trump in 2024 said inflation was the single most important factor for their vote, AP VoteCast found, and most expressed high levels of concern about the cost of food and gas.

More than a year into Trump’s second term, inflation remains high, fueled by gas prices that remain elevated as the Iran war continues. An AP-NORC poll conducted in April found that about 3 in 10 independents were “extremely” or “very” concerned about being able to afford groceries in the last few months, and a similar share were worried about being able to afford gas.

The analysis found that Americans’ views of the U.S. economy tend to align with their view of the president. Those with negative views of the country’s economy tended to have negative views of Trump, and about 8 in 10 independents described the U.S. economy this spring as poor.

The latest AP-NORC polling from May found that only about 3 in 10 independents approve of how Trump is handling the economy, in line with the roughly 3 in 10 who said that at the beginning of his second term. The April poll found only about 1 in 10 independents — 12% — approved of how Trump was handling the cost of living.

This AP-NORC analysis of 4,836 independents was conducted over 21 AP-NORC surveys, blocked into five time periods before and during President Donald Trump’s second term. Independents are classified as panelists who do not select that they identify with or lean toward either the Democratic or Republican Party.
