A college football showdown originally set for Brazil has been relocated.

The Week 0 clash between NC State and Virginia, initially slated for Rio de Janeiro, will now take place in Charlottesville, Virginia. This decision comes after thorough discussions with operational partners and international stakeholders.

“Athlete Advantage, the event organizer, communicated to the ACC and the schools involved that hosting the game was no longer viable,” NC State announced in a press release.

While the exact schedule for the game at its new Virginia location remains undecided, efforts are underway with the NCAA and ESPN to maintain the original date of August 29. Alternatively, the game may be postponed to Week 1. The specific reasons rendering the Brazilian venue impractical were not disclosed.

“Those who bought tickets or travel packages via the official College Football Brasil website will receive refunds. Refunds are being managed by relevant ticketing, payment processing, and event partners,” continued the press release. “Information regarding ticket availability for the match at Scott Stadium will be released soon.”

The matchup was originally part of a home-and-home agreement between the two teams in 2024, but was moved to an ACC matchup after the conference adopted a nine-game conference schedule.

College Football Brazil, as the game was branded, was set to be the first Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) game played in South America.

It was set up by Athlete Advantage and Brasil Sports Business and had full support from the Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, and the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, at its creation.

Athlete Advantage is a sports marketing and NIL management company that works with both universities and athletes. They have never successfully worked on an international football game

Despite the collapse of the Brazil game, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Athlete Advantage plans to continue bringing football to a global audience in 2027, 2028, and 2029. Games in Mexico City and Italy are possible.

Virginia and NC State have met 61 times since the first meeting in 1904, with the Wolfpack leading the series 38-1-22. NC State has won each of the last four matchups.

The Cavaliers are coming off a rebound year that included a trip to the ACC Championship and a Taxslayer Gator Bowl victory.

On Wednesday, federal officials revealed that four individuals associated with the infamous Venezuelan street gang, Tren de Aragua (TdA), have admitted guilt in connection to the murders of two unarmed American citizens in New York City in May 2024.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the gang members, who had entered the country unlawfully, allegedly shot and killed Claretha LaQuesha Daniels, 44, and Justin Lawless, 36, on a residential street in the Bronx. During the incident, a third victim was also injured by gunfire.

In federal court, Keiber “Keybe” Jaen Martinez, Samuel “Klei” Gonzalez Castro, Eferson “Jefferson” Morillo-Gomez, and Keineyer “Keiner” Ibarra-Mujica admitted to charges of murder involving a firearm and using a firearm to further a violent crime.

The TdA gang members who have confessed to these crimes could face life imprisonment as the maximum penalty.

Additionally, a fifth member of the gang recently confessed to charges of racketeering conspiracy and a carjacking at gunpoint, raising the total number of convicted TdA defendants in this case to eight.

Law enforcement officials described Tren de Aragua as “one of the most vicious gangs on planet earth.”

“They rape, maim, and murder for sport,” U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Sec. Markwayne Mullin wrote in a statement. “Under President [Donald] Trump’s leadership, we are targeting and removing gang members from our communities and ensuring those that committed crimes in our country face justice.”

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said that after the TdA members illegally crossed the border, they flooded New York City streets with “guns, drugs, sex trafficking, and violence.” 

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche added the terrorist group has “no place and no future in the United States,” and vowed the Justice Department will destroy the organization.

Originally a Venezuelan prison gang, TdA has rapidly expanded into a transnational terrorist organization operating in cities like New York. The group enriches itself through unlawful human smuggling across the border, armed robberies and trafficking a ketamine-mixed drug known as “tusi.”

The gang is particularly notorious for the violent sex trafficking of young women, referred to by the gang as “multadas.”

The women are smuggled into the U.S. and forced into commercial sex work to pay off smuggling debts. TdA members maintain control over their victims by threatening their families, assaulting them, and tracking down and kidnapping women who attempt to flee.

The convicts face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

WASHINGTON — A man previously convicted for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol has been appointed to a position within the Pentagon’s policy office. This development was confirmed by officials and documented in internal records.

In a recent social media announcement, acting Pentagon press secretary Joel Valdez described Elias Irizarry as a “qualified, patriotic young professional,” expressing pride in his appointment as a political appointee.

Irizarry’s appointment was initially reported by The Washington Post. He was found guilty in 2023 of misdemeanor trespassing after joining a group of supporters of former President Donald Trump in storming the Capitol. Court records reveal that Irizarry expressed remorse during his sentencing, which resulted in a two-week jail term in 2023.

According to internal records shared with The Associated Press, Irizarry is now working in the office of the undersecretary of defense for policy. This office plays a crucial role in advising the defense secretary on national security matters and military strategy.

Valdez’s statement did not specify the duration of Irizarry’s tenure in this role, and the Pentagon has declined to offer additional details.

Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said on social media: “This administration thinks a convicted Jan. 6 rioter should be doing that kind of work?????”

Irizarry was a 19-year-old freshman at the Citadel military college in South Carolina and a Civilian Air Patrol cadet when he joined the attack on the Capitol, court documents show. He climbed through a broken window, entered a conference room, carried a metal pole through the Capitol and took photos before leaving the building, the records say.

“Because of his training, Irizarry was undoubtedly aware of the safety threat posed by a mass of angry rioters to the Congressional members and staff inside the building,” prosecutors said in a court filing.

Irizarry pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor trespassing charge in October 2022. In March 2023, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan sentenced Irizarry to 14 days behind bars.

Before learning his sentence, Irizarry told the judge that he brought “great shame upon myself, my family and even my country,” according to a transcript.

“The idea of Americans being willing to fight other Americans and tear down the very institutions that millions of other Americans sacrificed and built and protect is horrible. It is something I have to live with being a part of,” he said.

Irizarry is not the only convicted participant of the Jan. 6 riot to find a job within the Trump administration.

Jared Wise, a former FBI agent charged with joining the crowd, was hired at the Justice Department last year to serve as an adviser to the department’s pardon attorney.

Wise was on trial in Washington when Trump returned to the White House in January and immediately pardoned, commuted prison sentences or ordered the dismissal of cases for all of the nearly 1,600 people charged in the attack. The case against Wise was dismissed before the jury reached a verdict.

He announced on social media in April that he had resigned from the department, saying: “I returned to Washington to fully expose the abuses by the FBI and DOJ against J6 defendants, but it became clear that this will only happen from outside of government. So I left and will do so.”

A Netflix star was compelled to withdraw from a fan gathering on Sunday after an overwhelming crowd of enthusiastic supporters transformed a shopping mall into a scene of chaos, breaching the glass doors in their excitement.

Chinese actor Zhang Linghe, celebrated for his performances in Netflix hits like “The Princess Royal” and “Pursuit of Jade,” was scheduled to attend an event for an eyewear brand at MixC Mall located in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi province.

The situation quickly escalated as soon as the doors opened. Fans rushed forward, breaking glass and causing shards to scatter across the entrance. This chaotic scene, captured in videos now circulating online, shows the extent of the disorder.

Amidst the chaos, screams echoed as the crowd pushed further into the mall, resulting in injuries to five individuals who required medical attention at a local hospital, as reported by The Paper.

According to the outlet, fans had begun gathering outside the venue several hours before the event was set to start. Social media footage depicted a throng of people crammed at the entrance, eagerly awaiting the actor’s appearance.

The mayhem ultimately forced organizers to pull the plug, with eyewear company Molsion announcing on social media that Zhang’s scheduled appearance had been canceled.

Instead of appearing at the shopping center as planned, Zhang later joined a livestream organized by the brand, per the outlet. 

The actor’s studio also addressed the incident on Weibo, issuing an apology to disappointed fans who had traveled to see him.

‘We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause due to the last-minute rescheduling of the brand event scheduled for today,’ the statement said. ‘Your safety is always our top priority and the premise for all our activities.’

In a move that drew praise online, the studio also pledged to reimburse fans who had traveled to Nanning for the event.

‘For fans who came to Nanning, all travel and accommodation expenses incurred due to this event, including airfare, high-speed rail tickets, hotel stays, and train fares, will be fully compensated by the artist and their studio.’

The extraordinary scenes are a testament to Zhang’s soaring popularity, with the 28-year-old emerging as one of the biggest stars in China’s booming television industry.

He first gained widespread attention with his role in the fantasy drama Love Between Fairy And Devil in 2022 before cementing his status as a leading man in a string of hit period dramas.

Matt Brown, known for his role on “Alaskan Bush People,” was reportedly experiencing significant emotional distress in the period before his passing, as revealed by a family friend to Page Six.

Tragically, Brown was found deceased in the Okanogan River in Washington over the weekend. His brother, Bear, disclosed that the cause of death was suicide.

Page Six had a conversation with Chay Moore from Stardog Champion K9 on Thursday. Moore, a close friend of the Brown family who also took part in recovering Matt’s body from the river, shared insights into Matt’s struggles. He mentioned that he had seen Matt less than three weeks before the tragic discovery and noted that the reality TV star was under significant stress.

“He was having trouble with his pickup truck, which added to his stress. The vehicle wouldn’t start, preventing him from embarking on a planned trip,” Moore explained.

Moore further added, “He had recently ended a relationship with his girlfriend, and all these issues seemed to overwhelm him simultaneously.”

Matt was dating a woman named Jamie prior to his death, and while Moore said he didn’t know the exact time frame of their breakup, he said he knew “it was definitely on his mind” on the particular day he saw Matt.

“He had been walking and riding buses and, you know, from town to town to, to survive,” he also said of the hardships Matt was facing after his truck broke down. “He was using buses and stuff.”

Moore said Jamie was instrumental in finding Matt’s body.

“Matt’s girlfriend was really, really pushing us hard to get it moving and get out there on that water,” he shared. “I think she had a notion of where she thought he was, you know, in her mind, I think.”

“She basically spearheaded the searchers on that river,” he added.

In a TikTok video last week, Bear said that Matt was “going through a really bad breakup” with “a girl he really liked.”

“I guess he had been drinking too much. I don’t know all the details to it,” he said.

He also said that Matt “has been struggling for a long time with alcohol and with drugs,” but he insisted the family did not “shun” him. Instead, Matt allegedly “didn’t want anything to do with the family.”

In Bear’s video over the weekend confirming Matt’s death he shared, “I didn’t think he would hurt himself, it does look like the injury is self-inflicted.”

Matt and Bear’s youngest brother, Noah, also confirmed that they found Matt’s body in a river and said he was the one who identified him.

The Brown family appeared on Discovery Channel’s “Alaskan Bush People” between 2014 and 2019. The reality series followed the family of nine as they lived off the grid in the wilderness.

Two officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and a staff member have been recognized for their bravery during a sniper attack at the Dallas ICE Field Office in 2025. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin presented them with medals for their courageous actions during the incident, where a sniper fired 17 shots from a nearby rooftop into the facility.

In an exclusive discussion with Fox News, the honored individuals reflected on the turmoil of that day and expressed concerns about the increasing threats faced by ICE personnel nationwide.

Marco Solis, a deportation officer, described the harrowing moment when the attack began. He was at his desk when bullets started striking the building. “I got hit in the head with something,” Solis recounted, explaining that it was debris from sheetrock as bullets penetrated several walls. Initially unsure of the source, it wasn’t until he saw a second bullet tumble across the roof that he realized they were in the midst of an active shooter situation.

“I got hit in the head with something,” Solis said. It was actually debris, sheetrock from the bullet penetrating multiple walls. Caught me off guard. I didn’t know where it came from, right? You just hear a snap come through the door or through the window, the walls. And it wasn’t until that second round came through the wall that I actually watched it tumble on the roof that I realized that we were getting, we had an active shooter on our hands.”

The officers said the attack quickly turned into a life-or-death rescue mission as detainees were struck by gunfire.

Andres Goche, also a deportation officer, said he and others worked to pull wounded detainees to safety. “It was Mr. Goche here that actually physically pulled those victims out of that van, that transport van, and brought them into our processing area, setting up that triage area for us,” Solis added.

“It is a concern that goes through every law enforcement officer,” Goche said. “Am I going to die? Am I gonna get injured? Am i gonna… It comes with the job. It’s a hazard that comes with a job, right?” Goche said.

The recognition comes as ICE officers have faced threats, violence and growing hostility at facilities across the country.

“This is a new reality for every deportation officer, every ICE employee that’s out there throughout the nation,” Goche said. “It’s something that we’ve come to terms with. The best hope that we can hold onto at the moment is to continue to rely on each other and emphasize the importance of our training.”

Solis, who has spent more than 18 years in federal service, said he has never seen the environment become this dangerous.

“I think everybody in the law enforcement profession understands the risks and accepts them,” Solis said. “I don’t think I’ve witnessed it be this violent or this volatile in my entire 18 years of federal service. It’s a way of life for us now. It’s just a reality that we’ve had to come to terms with.”

The officers also addressed misconceptions about ICE, saying officers and their families are increasingly being targeted simply for enforcing federal immigration law.

“Our families, especially our families, shouldn’t have to carry the burden or barrage of threats thrown at them simply because their significant other, their loved one, their family member, is an ICE officer just enforcing the immigration laws of the United States that are enacted by Congress,” Solis said.

Goche said much of the anger toward ICE is fueled by misinformation and agitators.

“These are paid actors. They’re paid individuals with one purpose, which is to cause disturbance, to agitate, and to try to derail us from our mission priorities,” Goche said “I want to give my message across to the American people. We’re not here, we’re not the bad guys,” he continued. “We’re officers, we’re human beings, we have families, we have the same interests as many other people out there in this beautiful country.”

Christopher Pyne, an enforcement removal assistant, said the actions of the officers that day showed the humanity behind the badge.

“These men were willing to risk their lives to save one of our detained. Like, we’re human beings, and we recognize that, you know everyone that we deal with are human beings,” Pyne said.

Solis said officers do not do the job for awards or recognitionZ 

“It’s humbling. I don’t believe anybody does it for any awards or accolades or recognition. It’s just the right thing to do, whether anybody’s looking or anybody’s gonna recognize you for it,” Solis said.

A handwritten note from Jennifer Aniston to her late co-star Matthew Perry has been pulled from a forthcoming auction that features the actor’s personal memorabilia.

Heritage Auctions in Dallas is set to host a sale on June 5, showcasing numerous cherished items from the “Friends” actor’s collection. Highlights include a famous Banksy artwork and several suits previously worn by Perry.

On Wednesday, Heritage Auctions announced to The Independent that Aniston’s note will no longer be part of the auction lineup, though they did not disclose the reasoning behind its removal.

The letter from Aniston, reportedly written near the conclusion of their iconic TV series in 2004, was a message to her former co-star.

Within the note, the 57-year-old actress is said to have addressed Perry’s battles with addiction, expressing her pride in his journey.

‘Matty! Oh my God….How am [I] going to live without your light in my life on a daily basis?’ Aniston wrote, per The Independent.

Originally titled Six of One, Perry’s belongings included an outline of the series before it was renamed Friends – a rare item describing the premise of the series and the ‘friends and lovers’ it set out to follow.

‘This was the name of Friends, Six of One, before it became Friends, but this is basically an outline, basically, “From the creators of Cheers and Frasier, you know, Six of One,”‘ Chanes said of the script.

‘”Six single people living in New York is about friends and lovers, IKEA furniture, cappuccino, bad date, Spanish soap operas, and Mr Potato Head,” but anyway, it just gives the rundown of it, and then here is a pilot.’

Outside of acting, Perry was also an avid tennis player who grew up playing the sport.

Perry battled addiction for many years, a struggle that intensified during his time on Friends, when he became one of the biggest stars of his generation as Chandler Bing. 

His rise to fame alongside Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer on the iconic Friends sitcom was overshadowed by personal struggles.

Perry openly admitted that his addiction issues frequently interfered with his work during those years and he laid bare his struggles in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

Five people have since been convicted for their part in his overdose, including Perry’s drug counselor, his ‘Ketamine Queen’ drug dealer Jasveen Sangha, and two doctors.

On Wednesday, Perry’s one-time assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, who injected the Friends star ‘repeatedly’ with ketamine on the day he died, was sentenced to more than three years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, causing death.
