Democrats are rallying around a promising young figure within their ranks, who is making headlines for his bold critiques of Donald Trump, as he gains traction for a possible presidential bid in 2028.

Senator Jon Ossoff, a Democratic leader from Georgia at 39 years old, is gearing up for a challenging reelection battle on one of the toughest electoral maps in the country.

According to the Cook Political Report, Ossoff has been designated as the ‘most endangered incumbent’ of this election cycle—a label that his campaign is leveraging through targeted Google display ads.

Despite the hurdles he faces leading up to the 2026 elections, Ossoff is already being recognized as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race, thanks in part to his unyielding criticism of Trump.

Recently, a video of Senator Ossoff sharply addressing the business activities of Trump’s two sons has captured widespread attention online.

Ossoff called out ‘Prince Eric and Prince Don’s’ business dealings in Kazakhstan, accusing them of corruption.

Former Republican Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, who has been a top critic of Trump, noted on X, ‘This is how you do it. [Ossoff] is so good.’

Democratic commentator Victor Shi wrote on X that Ossoff is ‘one of those rare politicians who is more impressive every time he speaks.’

‘He’s such an effective communicator… and talks about the corruption of Trump [and] his administration like none other,’ Shi added.

X user @ohitswaters noted of Ossoff’s speech, ‘I’ve seen enough. We’ve found our next Jack Kennedy.’

Writer and editor for LGBT news site Queerty, Alex Reimer, wrote on X, ‘Ossoff is going to be a top presidential contender if he wins re-election, which seems likely.’

‘He’s handsome, articulate, and authoritative. You couldn’t come up with a more appealing general election candidate. I think he could pull off Obama-like margins against Vance or Rubio,’ Reimer added.

Political commentator Sam Deutsch said that despite there being many ‘solid candidates’ for 2028, he doesn’t think ‘any of them are cooking as hard as Ossoff.’

‘I’d run through a brick wall for this guy,’ he added.

Another clip of Ossoff at a rally ripping into the two Republicans in a runoff to take him on in the general election also made the rounds over the weekend.

‘They tried to run [Brian] Kemp, but he refused,’ Ossoff noted of the GOP primary field, which could have had the Peach State’s current governor in it.

Kemp noted in a 2025 statement that ‘being on the ballot… is not the right decision for me and my family.’

Ossoff then launched stunning nepotism claims against the Republicans – Congressman Mike Collins and Derek Dooley, a former NFL and NCAA football coach.

‘So we’re left with the congressman who’s only a congressman because his daddy was a congressman and the coach, who’s only a coach because his daddy was a coach,’ Ossoff railed in a segment that quickly picked up steam on social media.

Collins finished first in last month’s primary, but didn’t reach the 50 percent threshold to avoid a runoff. He’s now forced to slug it out with the second-place vote getter, Governor Brian Kemp’s pick, Dooley, the former Georgia football coach.

Collins fought back against Ossoff’s attack, noting on X that he is ‘a Senator who only got here because of his daddy’s trust fund.’

Ossoff’s father is the owner of Strafford Publications, and he also sent his son to The Paideia School, an Atlanta private school. Ossoff also received an inheritance from his grandfather. 

Ossoff is known for his bold rhetoric and attempted to boost his national profile earlier this cycle by railing against the so-called ‘Epstein Class,’ top political and business names that appeared in the files relating to convicted pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, by the Department of Justice last year.

It’s a shorthand term that Ossoff has coined to describe the wealthy and powerful who have escaped political accountability, and it’s become central to his pitch as he fights to hold his Senate seat in 2026.

Federal Election Commission records, however, revealed that Ossoff has received over $100,000 from individuals named in the Epstein files between his various campaign accounts.

In essence, part of that very Epstein class he decries is funding his bid for another term in power, which could become an issue for him in the November race in his re-election campaign.

Trump hasn’t tipped his hand on which Republican he favors for the seat.

Meanwhile, Ossoff, who is sitting on a $32 million war chest, can lie in wait and watch his would-be opponents tear each other apart.

Dooley has been boosted by the state’s incumbent governor, Kemp, who has clashed with Trump in the past, while Collins’ backers have included a slew of his Capitol Hill colleagues, state legislators, and even former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

NPR reported Trump hadn’t offered an endorsement, ‘likely because the race will head to a runoff’ – suggesting he wanted to back a winner rather than a crowded field.

The GOP runoff to determine Ossoff’s opponent will take place in just over two weeks, on June 16.

A notorious bottleneck in Southern California’s traffic network has received a futuristic upgrade, albeit with a potential initial inconvenience.

As of Monday, the Riverside County Transportation Commission has launched a groundbreaking $33 million “smart freeway” initiative. This pilot project is set along an eight-mile segment of northbound Interstate 15 between Temecula and Murrieta, a corridor that has long been a source of frustration for drivers due to its frequent gridlocks.

Instead of expanding the freeway with more lanes, the Smart Freeway Pilot Project employs artificial intelligence, sophisticated sensors, synchronized ramp meters, and digital speed advisory systems to optimize the flow of vehicles, effectively transforming the highway into an intelligent infrastructure.

However, there’s a caveat: motorists might face longer waits before merging onto the freeway.

The project’s focus area, stretching from the San Diego/Riverside County Line in Temecula to the I-15/I-215 Interchange in Murrieta, is infamous for its traffic jams. Heavy influxes from local on-ramps often bring the interstate to a crawl, frustrating daily commuters.

Under the new system, the highway’s on-ramp meters will no longer operate on automated timers. Instead, they will act as a “coordinated system,” talking to each other and “adjusting in real time to allow more or fewer vehicles to enter the freeway” based on how jammed the highway actually is.

Since the meters can speed up or slow down access to the highway depending on conditions farther ahead, drivers will be made to wait a little longer to get on.

Leaders are pitching it as a win, promising smoother rides and overall time savings once drivers actually get onto the blacktop. But they are also offering a stark reality check: motorists trying to get onto the I-15 will “initially experience short delays at on-ramps.”

Officials say the goal is to reduce stop-and-go traffic, improve travel times and make the clogged corridor flow more smoothly without building additional lanes.

“Building our way out of traffic congestion is not an option,” Riverside County Transportation Commission Chair Raymond Gregory said. “We must look at how we can combine technology with existing infrastructure to improve the driving experience.”

Temecula city officials also say that the technology could also reduce rear-end crashes, improve fuel efficiency and cut vehicle emissions by minimizing idling and repeated acceleration.

The project is in partnership with Caltrans, Western Riverside Council of Governments, and the City of Temecula. The results of the smart freeway experiment will be studied for the next two years.

A disturbing incident unfolded at a Nevada hotel during a barrel racing event over the weekend, where a teenage participant was apprehended for allegedly stabbing three horses. The incident has sparked outrage and concern within the community.

Late Saturday night, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were called to the scene following reports of an injured horse at a barn adjacent to the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa. The call came in shortly after 2 a.m., according to a police press release.

Upon arrival, the authorities discovered not one, but three horses had suffered intentional injuries inflicted with a sharp object. Such a shocking find prompted the immediate involvement of the LVMPD’s Animal Cruelty Section.

As detectives delved deeper into the investigation, they identified a teenage girl as a potential suspect in this unsettling case of animal cruelty. This development has left many in disbelief, as the alleged perpetrator is directly connected to the event.

Investigators revealed she had access to the barn the horses were being kept in, and that they believe “she may have used a knife to inflict multiple injuries to the horses.” 

While the injuries to the three horses are not life-threatening, the animals were unable to compete in the 2026 National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show, which was held at the South Point Arena and Equestrian Center over the weekend.

Following the discovery of the alleged stabbings, the teenager was located at a nearby hotel and taken into custody, police said.

She was later transported to the Clark County Juvenile Hall and charged with 12 counts of willful or malicious killing, maiming or torturing an animal and three counts of felony malicious destruction of private property valued at more than $5,000, police said.

Her identity has not been released by authorities due to her age. 

In a statement posted to social media, the NBHA said it “experienced an isolated incident” early Saturday, “involving the mistreatment of a limited number of equine athletes by an event competitor.”

“This situation was addressed immediately in coordination with the National Barrel Horse Association, the South Point Hotel and Security, Metro Police, and all appropriate parties,” the organization added. “The individual involved has been removed and placed in the care of authorities, and there is no ongoing threat of any kind.”

The fragile Iran ceasefire brokered by Donald Trump is now teetering on the brink of failure. Tehran has issued a stark warning: it may shut down the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical artery for global shipping, as a retaliatory measure against the United States and Israel. This move could potentially plunge the global economy into a recession.

On Monday, Iranian authorities announced the suspension of all diplomatic discussions with the U.S., pointing to Israel’s military actions in Lebanon as a breach of the ceasefire agreement. This information was reported by the state-run media outlet, Tasnim.

The report further indicated that Iran plans to mobilize its Shiite allies in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq with the intention of closing the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic waterway is crucial for the transport of approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply.

In addition to the Strait of Hormuz, Iran is also focusing on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Known as the ‘Strait of Tears’, it is infamous for its hazardous sailing conditions, including erratic winds, strong crosscurrents, and concealed reefs.

According to Reuters, if Houthi rebels in Yemen decide to escalate the conflict, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait would likely become a prime target.

‘Let’s assume that there is no deal and fighting restarts between the U.S. and Iran, we’ve seen a scenario of $180 per barrel by August, and that will mean a severe global economic recession, particularly in Europe and particularly in emerging Asia,’ Jorge León, head of geopolitical analysis at Rystad Energy, told CNBC.

In response to the latest cut off all diplomatic talks by Iran, Trump said he did not care if negotiations fall apart. 

‘I really don’t care. I couldn’t care less,’ Trump told CNBC. 

The President also said he was not worried about energy prices spiking over Tehran’s threats to shut down the Strait of Hormuz.  

‘I think the oil will be dropping like a rock in the very near, you know, the very near distance,’ Trump said.

Oil markets went into a frenzy following news of the ceasefire’s collapse, with crude prices climbing more than six percent.

Trump held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday following Tehran’s announcement. 

The President said he was ‘going to ask’ Netanyahu about ‘what’s going on with Lebanon.’ 

Trump said on Truth Social that, after speaking with Netanyahu, no troops would go to Beirut and any en route had been recalled.

‘Likewise, through highly placed Representatives, I had a very good call with Hezbollah, and they agreed that all shooting will stop — That Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel,’ Trump added.  

Trump later claimed that ‘talks are continuing, at a rapid pace, with the Islamic Republic of Iran.’ 

Israel remains hesitant to include Lebanon in the ongoing ceasefire with Tehran, viewing that conflict as separate from the broader war.

The US has tried to mediate between Israel and Lebanon over the past few weeks, pushing for a temporary ceasefire while Trump negotiates a long-term peace agreement with Tehran.

Israeli forces over the weekend captured a strategic site in Lebanon, marking their deepest military incursion into the country in over 26 years.

Israel captured Beaufort Castle, a medieval fortress in southern Lebanon that it had held until its withdrawal from the country in 2000.
