Illinois Lawmakers to Review Chicago Bears Stadium ‘Mega-Projects’ Bill as Legislative Session Concludes Sunday

0

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) — Time is running out for Illinois lawmakers as they face a weekend deadline to decide on the “mega-projects” bill, which could pave the way for a new Chicago Bears stadium in the state.

Lawmakers also have several other important issues to address, such as implementing a cell phone ban in Illinois schools, initiating housing construction projects, and ensuring employees are paid during jury duty.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

ABC7 caught up with State Representative Kam Buckner, who is leading the charge for the Bears stadium bill in the House.

For the bill to move forward, both chambers of the General Assembly must approve it by midnight on Sunday. Failure to meet this deadline could see the Bears opting for Hammond, Indiana, instead of Arlington Heights for their new stadium.

Following extensive Senate discussions on a property tax formula that balances the needs of the Bears and local residents, Buckner notes that several new Senate proposals are emerging. These include a more focused bill that might exclusively address the Bears, reserving other developers for future legislation.

“I’ve been jokingly calling the option of having a paired down version of the megaprojects bill on Ozempic, but frankly I don’t know what that looks like, and it would have to be something that I think both the Senate and the House can get comfortable with,” Buckner said.

Buckner says as long as the Senate passes something by late Sunday night, the House would still have time to meet that midnight deadline, and he says he’s optimistic. This is typical Springfield, he says, and it’s often at the last minute that things get done.

State lawmakers have their work cut out for them in a very short period of time to get it all done, but they have also passed quite a few important pieces of legislation as well.

A Chicago Bears stadium “mega-projects” bill is among the measures for Illinois lawmakers to review as their spring legislative session ends Sunday.

Keeping the Bears in Illinois has caught most of the public’s attention as state Lawmakers wind down their Spring legislative session, but there is much more going on than just a location of a new Bears stadium and the “mega-projects” bill it’s wrapped in.

“I think the most consequential piece is the regulations around large frontier developers of these AI systems,” Republican State Senate Minority Leader John Curran said.

Waiting for Governor JB Pritzker’s signature is a bipartisan bill to rein in the artificial intelligence industry. It would require third-party audits of big AI company models to ensure safety protocols are in place. Curran says mandating guardrails is aimed at preventing huge disasters.

“You could have an AI model go and take over a power system and shut down power in, you know, a state or an entire region, something of that scale, and think about what that would cost in terms of infrastructure and and damages,” Curran said.

Another bipartisan effort and potential win for the governor is a cell phone ban for in classrooms. Sen. Curran is confident it will pass this session, but, Pritzker’s BUILD Initiative, which paves the way to build more housing, will take some serious work over the weekend. It is facing opposition from local governments, as part of the bill gives state control over zoning.

“I think there’s a chance of it passing, but local control really is one of the biggest issues, especially with the city of Chicago,” Better Government Association VP Bryan Zarou said.

And there are other smaller and overlooked bills making it out of the spring session, including a jury duty bill.

“It makes it mandatory for anyone who has 25 or more employees to pay their employees when they’re out on jury duty,” Zarou said.

And there is the junk fee bill that requires all hidden fees for online ticket or food orders to be shown up front before consumers pay.

And lawmakers have passed the will bill. It allows people to store their wills at the county clerk’s office for a fee so when they die their loved ones can find it.

What must pass before May 31 is a balanced budget, as money is tight.

Democratic State Senator Robert Peters is hoping to pass an digital advertising tax to raise revenue.

“My belief is that we should make sure that tech CEOs who’ve been making so much money in the last year and a half pay their fair share,” Sen. Peters

As for the Bears “mega-projects” bill, with time ticking, lawmakers may now be holding off on the “mega-projects” piece and focus on passing something for the Bears only.

Outraged Pet Owner Demands Justice After Beloved Cat Killed by Coyotes Due to Sitter’s Negligence

0

A San Diego resident is grappling with the loss of her cherished cat, Blair, amid fears that coyotes may have claimed the feline after a pet sitter allegedly left a door ajar. The heartache is palpable for Anna Coombs, who is mourning the disappearance of her 12-year-old black-and-white tuxedo cat.

Coombs had enlisted the help of a pet sitter to watch over Blair at her University City home during her and her husband’s trip out of town. However, soon after their departure, the sitter contacted Coombs with unsettling news: Blair, typically an indoor cat, had slipped outside just minutes after the sitter arrived.

“She left the door open while she was bringing her things in,” Coombs recounted, “and saw our cat go outside.” The situation has left Coombs devastated, as she fears the worst for her beloved pet.

But no sooner had they left, she claims the sitter got in touch to inform her that her normally indoor cat had wandered outside within five minutes of her arriving.

‘She left the door open while she was bringing her stuff in. She saw our cat go outside,’ Coombs said.

‘Blair’s never gone outside and willingly come back in. And then [the sitter] just assumed that Blair was an outdoor cat, so she just left the door open all night. I’m so mad at this person.

‘This has been, like, the most devastating week and day of our lives, and there’s so much I want to say about Blair.’

Coombs said the next few days were filled with anxiety as they prayed for Blair’s return.

She claimed the sitter had even negotiated a higher price due to her experience pet sitting.

‘She texted us a day, a full day after it happened basically saying, like, “Hey, I feel at peace about this. I just know your cat will come back.” She didn’t ask, “Is this normal?” She just assumed,’ she fumed in a TikTok video.

But her anguish soon turned to full-on despair and just a day later, Coombs shared the news that Blair had been found dead.

She explained that a specialized animal recovery team used a thermal drone and scent-tracking dogs before a hound found what they believed to be Blair’s remains.

The drone also picked up two coyotes running through the local trails.

‘They were an incredible team, and they were so nice, and they handled everything with so much care. But I didn’t want to accept it,’ Coombs said.

‘They said there’s always the possibility of the probability being wrong, so there’s always a hope. But I think we know in our heart that she’s gone.’

Coombs said she has had Blair for the cat’s whole life and the two have moved to various cities together.

‘She moved with me to college, and she moved with me to Austin. She moved with me to New York, and she moved with me here to San Diego,’ Coombs said.

‘She was literally in the passenger seat of my car when my husband and I kissed for the first time right outside of it.

‘She’s literally been in my life for every major milestone. My kids were supposed to meet her. I know it’s just a cat, but Blair was truly my family.

‘I don’t want to say anything more about the sitter. But Blair was truly such a special cat, and she was my soul cat. And I’m just so, so sad that this was her ending.

‘I just hope that she knows how much I loved her and how much she truly brought to our lives.’

Now, Coombs is urging other pet owners to be overly cautious about their beloved pets.

‘They know them very well, and I’m just warning anyone in our area, please, please keep your pets safe,’ she said.

‘Please, please find pet sitters that you fully, fully trust. And over, over, over communicate to them what needs to be said.’

Unveiling the Unknown: NASA Chief’s Shocking Insights on Recent UFO Revelations

0

NASA’s chief has recently highlighted a trove of UFO files that unveil years of mysterious encounters, suggesting that government agencies have historically overlooked these incidents. According to Jared Isaacman, when speaking to FOX News, these declassified materials, including videos, photographs, and documents, showcase inexplicable objects detected by military sensors across the globe.

“What has come to light isn’t about crashed spacecraft or extraterrestrial bodies. Instead, it’s about genuine, unexplained phenomena,” Isaacman stated, emphasizing the curiosity and enigma surrounding these cases.

For years, many of these perplexing incidents were tucked away within government databases. This silence persisted until former President Donald Trump initiated an effort to revisit old records. This directive led agencies to delve into classified archives and make their findings public, ultimately revealing the extent of these unusual encounters.

The revelation aligns with the Trump administration’s initiative that saw the release of two sets of previously classified UFO records. This effort was part of a broader campaign aimed at shedding light on unexplained aerial events that have been hidden within federal archives for decades.

The comments came after the Trump administration released two batches of previously classified UFO records under a new disclosure initiative aimed at uncovering unexplained aerial incidents hidden inside federal archives.

Officials said additional releases from agencies, including the CIA, are expected in the coming weeks as pressure grows for greater transparency surrounding UFO investigations.

For decades, many UFO-related records remained locked away due to Cold War secrecy, national security concerns and fears about exposing sensitive military technology detected by radar and surveillance systems.

Critics have long argued that successive administrations avoided publicly acknowledging unexplained cases out of concern over public backlash, institutional embarrassment and growing conspiracy theories surrounding UFO investigations.

‘I think the President has really got government agencies now taking this seriously, to go look at the files and bring the data to light, and he’s putting it all out for everyone to analyze,’ Isaacman told Fox News.

‘This is citizen science right now. Take a look at our files, tell us what you think.’

He added that he is not aware of any files containing information about alien bodies or spaceships, but ‘observations from decades past, from some of our adversaries and potentially some of our allies, essentially saying, “We saw something, we documented it, and we kept it buried in a file somewhere,’ are now being made public.”‘

Isaacman suggested the disclosures should be viewed less as evidence of extraterrestrials and more as a growing collection of unexplained incidents now open to public scrutiny, with modern cameras, military sensors and newly released records providing more data than ever before.

‘Everybody’s got a camera phone, a doorbell camera. Every military aircraft flying has a million sensors,’ he said.

‘You’re gonna pick up things. Pick up things that flew at a different angle, you know, across the lens that maybe if you had a better angle on, you’d be like, oh, that’s a balloon, or that might be a missile in a combat region.

‘But because we caught it at an angle, it’s an unexplained phenomenon.’

Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter promised to release UFO files while in office.

Other files revealed unexplained phenomena above the lunar surface during the Apollo moon missions

During his 1976 presidential campaign, Carter famously promised the public that he would release all classified government UFO information. However, after being elected, he ultimately chose not to disclose these files, citing ‘national security concerns.’

The Clinton administration was heavily lobbied by the UFO ‘disclosure movement’ during the late 1990s.

In 1997, around the 50th anniversary of the Roswell Incident, Clinton publicly stated that he had ordered an official review of the 1947 event to see if the government was hiding the truth.

However, the subsequent findings maintained that the crash was merely a high-altitude weather balloon.

On Wednesday, President Trump held a Cabinet meeting where he said: ‘We’re releasing a lot of information having to do with extraterrestrial terrestrial things and people are totally fascinated by it.

‘It’s literally trending number one, can you believe it?’

Vanilla Ice Faces Backlash and Defends Freedom 250 Concert as Performers Withdraw

0

Vanilla Ice remains committed to performing at the Freedom 250 concert in honor of America’s significant birthday, despite several artists backing out this week. The rapper emphasized that “music is not political.”

On Friday, Vanilla Ice confirmed his participation in the Freedom 250 Presents: The Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., an event associated with President Trump. This announcement comes after artists like Martina McBride and Bret Michaels unexpectedly withdrew from the lineup.

“I’m here to celebrate with America,” the rapper, famous for “Ice Ice Baby,” told TMZ. “Music is meant to unite people, and that’s exactly what we aim to do. We’re all about representing the ’90s vibe.”

At 58, Robert Van Winkle, better known as Vanilla Ice, insists that the event’s focus is on commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary, steering clear of political connotations.

“I don’t even vote, so politics doesn’t concern me,” he explained. “If President Biden invited me to perform at his daughter’s wedding, I’d be there. It’s not a big deal to me.”

“You play for your fans. We don’t get a chance to pick our fans, they pick us. And I’ll go play for Putin and I’ll play in Iran if you want, it don’t matter. There’s fans everywhere.”

“Music is not political, it’s universal,” he added.

Vanilla Ice also brushed off criticism surrounding the event and the artists who have decided not to participate.

“Come on, enjoy the dancing. Don’t take it so serious. We’re just entertainers, man,” he said. “I don’t think anybody should take this serious, including them.

“I think everybody should just go dance. It’s just music, what’s the big deal, man? We’re just entertainers.”

The rapper has previously performed at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, taking the stage at the Palm Beach, Fla., club during a New Year’s Eve bash at the end of last year.

Vanilla Ice echoed the sentiments in an Instagram video Thursday, saying he was “honored” to be part of the celebration.

“America is turning 250. Come on, man. Let’s go,” he said. “We’re gonna bring back the ’90s. Put your dancing shoes on.

“It’s all about enjoying the great times of 250 years, man. George Washington until now, all the presidents and everybody in between.”

He captioned the post: “Happy birthday America 250 years. It’s gonna be an epic party. This is to bring us all together.

“This is not a political platform. This is celebrating America’s birthday. Nothing too serious just enjoying some fun, dancing and great memories.”

His comments come after several acts announced they were withdrawing from the Freedom 250 concert following this week’s lineup reveal.

Country singer Martina McBride exited the event one day after being announced, calling the promotion surrounding the concert “misleading.” Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day & The Time and The Commodores have also backed out.

Still on the bill are Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, C+C Music Factory and Milli Vanilli’s Fab Morvan.

Freedom 250 was launched by Trump last year and describes itself as a “national, non-partisan organization leading the celebration of our Nation’s 250th birthday.”

The Freedom 250 concert is part of the Great American State Fair, a free festival that will take over the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from June 25 through July 10.

Pete Hegseth Sounds Alarm on China’s Rising Military Power: A Threat to Pacific Stability

0

IN BRIEF

  • Hegseth said China’s military build up and expansion could “unravel” the balance of power in the Pacific.
  • He also warned military reliance on the US and downplayed potential arms deals with Taiwan.

United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called on Asian allies to significantly increase their military budgets as a strategic move to counteract China’s escalating influence and assertiveness in the region.

During his address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, a key conference for defense officials, military leaders, and diplomats held in Singapore this weekend, Hegseth highlighted concerns over China’s swift military advancements.

He emphasized that building a robust and self-sufficient alliance network is crucial for deterring potential aggression and maintaining regional stability.

“There is a legitimate concern about China’s unprecedented military expansion and its growing activities across the region and beyond,” Hegseth stated.

Stay informed and connected with our comprehensive news updates and insights delivered directly to your inbox every day.

“A Pacific dominated by any hegemon would unravel the regional balance of power,” Hegseth said.

“No state, including China, can impose its hegemony and hold the security or prosperity of our nation and our allies in question.”

The US expects its Asian allies and partners to increase defence spending to 3.5 per cent of GDP as it pledged a $1.5 trillion investment in its military, the Pentagon chief said.

Hegseth stressed allies wanted stability, not escalation.

“What they want, and what the US delivers, is strength that is disciplined, resolve that is steady, and leadership that is confident enough to speak and walk softly while carrying a big stick.”

Hegseth also struck a measured tone on US-China ties, saying relations are “better than they have been in many years,” with more frequent military-to-military engagement helping to manage tensions.

“We are meeting more frequently with our Chinese counterparts by maintaining open lines of military-to-military communication,” he said.

‘No freeloading’

Hegseth echoed President Donald Trump’s long-standing demand that allies should shoulder more of their own defence costs. Trump has pointedly said European and NATO partners should reduce reliance on Washington.

“The era of the United States subsidising the defence of wealthy nations is over,” Hegseth said.

“We need partners, not protectorates.

“We don’t have a strong alliance unless everyone has skin in the game. No freeloading.”

Hegseth praised contributions from allies including South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, and said Japan was taking concrete steps to bolster its defences.

He said Japan and the US “must each pull our weight” to strengthen their alliance.

Arms sales to Taiwan is Trump’s call

Asked about arms sales to Taiwan, Hegseth downplayed concerns that a multi-billion-dollar package could be affected as the US draws down its weapons stockpiles amid the Middle East conflict.

“We feel very good about our stockpiles and how we use them,” he said.

Taiwan, which China views as its own territory, has been waiting for the US to approve an arms sale that could be worth up to US$14 billion ($20 billion).

Trump sowed uncertainty in Taipei by saying, after meeting China’s President Xi Jinping this month, that he was undecided on whether to approve the package.

Any decision on future arms sales would rest with the president, Hegseth said, signalling there was no shift in Washington’s longstanding approach despite its recent engagement with Beijing.

“Those decisions will depend on the president and the nature of that relationship,” Hegseth said.

“There’s been no change in our status.”

Transform Your Morning Routine: 6 Anti-Aging Exercises for Those Over 55 That Outperform Cardio

A fitness expert reveals six morning exercises that enhance strength, mobility, and balance for individuals over 55.

While cardiovascular activities such as walking, cycling, rowing, and jogging remain essential after the age of 55 for maintaining heart health, boosting endurance, and managing body composition, they aren’t the whole picture for aging gracefully. To age well, it’s crucial to maintain strength, mobility, balance, power, core stability, and joint flexibility—ensuring you still feel in control of your body when you rise each morning.

This is where a thoughtful morning routine becomes invaluable. The early hours are perfect for loosening stiff muscles, activating the glutes and core, and reminding your body of its full range of motion. The goal isn’t to exhaust yourself before breakfast; instead, it’s about gently encouraging your body to move with ease, improve posture, and engage the muscles that are vital for healthy aging.

What’s remarkable about these exercises is their efficiency—they cover a wide range of movements without turning your morning into an intense workout session. You’ll incorporate lunging, reaching, hinging, bracing, rotating, and stabilizing, engaging multiple systems simultaneously. This approach is ideal for those over 55: it provides a sense of accomplishment, promotes effective movement, and is simple enough to repeat daily before your day fully begins.

The beauty of these moves is how much ground they cover without turning your morning into a full workout. You’ll lunge, reach, hinge, brace, rotate, and stabilize in ways that wake up more than one system at a time. That’s the sweet spot after 55: enough work to feel productive, enough control to move well, and a routine you can actually repeat before the day gets rolling.

Reverse Lunge with Overhead Reach

Reverse lunges with an overhead reach train your glutes, quads, hips, shoulders, and core while opening the front of your body. Stepping back challenges your balance, and the reach adds a mobility piece through your hips, ribs, and shoulders. That makes the move especially useful after 55 because it blends strength and flexibility into a single pattern rather than treating them separately. Better control here carries over to walking, stairs, reaching overhead, and moving with more confidence first thing in the morning.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, hip flexors, shoulders, core

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Step your right foot back into a reverse lunge.
  3. Lower your back knee toward the floor with control.
  4. Reach both arms overhead as you lower.
  5. Press through your front foot to return to standing.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Assisted reverse lunge with reach, shorter-step reverse lunge, bodyweight reverse lunge

Form Tip: Keep your ribs down as you reach so your lower back doesn’t arch.

Down Dog to Cobra

Down dog to cobra trains your shoulders, spine, hips, chest, and core through a smooth, flowing mobility. Pressing back into down dog opens the hamstrings and shoulders, while shifting into cobra extends the spine and opens the front of the body. This helps fight the stiff, folded-forward posture that tends to creep in with age and too much sitting. Move slowly and let each position do its job, rather than rushing through the transition.

Muscles Trained: Shoulders, upper back, chest, hips, core

How to Do It:

  1. Start in a high plank position with your hands under your shoulders.
  2. Push your hips up and back into down dog.
  3. Press your hands into the floor and lengthen your spine.
  4. Shift your body forward toward plank.
  5. Lower your hips and lift your chest into cobra.
  6. Return to down dog with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 6 to 8 reps. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Elevated hands down dog to cobra, shorter range reps, slower tempo reps

Form Tip: Move through your shoulders and hips instead of dumping into your lower back.

Lateral Lunges

Lateral lunges train your glutes, quads, inner thighs, hips, and core in a side-to-side pattern. Most daily movement happens forward, but aging well also requires the ability to shift sideways, change direction, and control your hips outside a straight line. Lateral lunges fill that gap by building strength and mobility through the hips and inner thighs. Stronger side-to-side control helps with balance, walking on uneven ground, and feeling more athletic throughout the day.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, quadriceps, inner thighs, hamstrings, core

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall with your feet together.
  2. Step your right foot out to the side.
  3. Push your hips back and bend your right knee.
  4. Keep your left leg straight and your chest lifted.
  5. Press through your right foot to return to standing.
  6. Repeat on the other side.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 6 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Short-range lateral lunges, assisted lateral lunges, alternating lateral lunges

Form Tip: Sit back into your hip and keep your knee tracking with your toes.

Plank with Shoulder Taps

Plank shoulder taps train your core, shoulders, chest, triceps, and glutes while your body fights rotation. Every time one hand leaves the floor, your midsection has to brace harder to keep your hips from rocking. That’s a major piece of aging well because strong core control supports balance, posture, and upper-body strength. Compared with steady cardio, this move challenges your body to stabilize while your arms move, which carries over to daily tasks like reaching, bracing, and catching yourself.

Muscles Trained: Core, shoulders, chest, triceps, glutes

How to Do It:

  1. Start in a high plank position with your hands under your shoulders.
  2. Set your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and squeeze your glutes.
  4. Tap one hand to your opposite shoulder.
  5. Place your hand back on the floor with control.
  6. Alternate sides while keeping your hips steady.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 taps per side. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Incline shoulder taps, wider-stance shoulder taps, slower shoulder taps

Form Tip: Keep your hips quiet while your hands move.

Glute Bridge Walkouts

Glute bridge walkouts train your glutes, hamstrings, core, and hips while keeping your backside under tension. As your feet walk away from your body, your hamstrings have to work harder to keep your hips lifted. This helps fight age-related muscle loss in the posterior chain, which plays a big role in walking, standing, climbing stairs, and protecting your lower back. Keep the steps small and stop before your hips start to drop.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, core

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Press through your heels and lift your hips.
  3. Brace your core and squeeze your glutes.
  4. Walk your feet forward one small step at a time.
  5. Walk your feet back toward your body while keeping your hips lifted.
  6. Lower your hips with control after each set.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 6 to 8 walkouts. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Glute bridge holds, shorter walkouts, single-leg bridge holds

Form Tip: Keep your hips high and avoid letting your lower back take over.

Bird-Dogs

Bird-dogs train your core, glutes, shoulders, and lower back while teaching your body to stay steady as your arms and legs move. The movement looks simple, but clean reps require control through your hips, spine, and shoulders. That makes bird-dogs a strong morning exercise for aging well because they build coordination and stability without beating up your joints. Better control here helps with walking, balance, lifting, and staying supported through your lower back.

Muscles Trained: Core, glutes, lower back, shoulders

How to Do It:

  1. Start on all fours with your hands under your shoulders and knees under your hips.
  2. Brace your core and keep your back flat.
  3. Extend your right arm forward and your left leg straight back.
  4. Hold briefly while keeping your hips level.
  5. Return to the starting position with control.
  6. Repeat on the opposite side.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused bird-dogs, slower bird-dogs, banded bird-dogs

Form Tip: Reach long through your arm and leg without twisting your hips.

How to Make Morning Movement Fight Aging

A good morning routine should help your body feel stronger, looser, and more prepared for the day ahead. Cardio supports your heart and endurance, but strength, mobility, balance, and core control help you keep moving well. These exercises cover the qualities that tend to fade when they are no longer given regular attention.

  • Move through multiple directions: Lunges, lateral lunges, and bird-dogs help your body control forward, backward, side-to-side, and cross-body movement. That gives you more usable strength than repeating one pattern every day.
  • Train your core to stabilize: Shoulder taps, bird-dogs, and bridge walkouts teach your midsection to hold position while your arms and legs move. That skill matters for balance, posture, and lower-back support.
  • Keep the hips active: Reverse lunges, lateral lunges, and glute bridge walkouts strengthen the muscles that power walking, climbing stairs, and getting up from a seated position.
  • Use control instead of speed: Slow reps help you feel the right muscles working and keep your joints in better positions. Rushing through morning movement usually steals the benefit.
  • Stay consistent without turning it into a full workout: Five to 10 focused minutes can go a long way when the movements are done well. Morning routines work because they’re easy to repeat.

Think of these moves as your daily reset button. A few clean reps can wake up your hips, core, shoulders, and legs before the day starts asking more from them.

ICE Agents Mobilized in New Jersey Following Intense Clash with Protestors

0

Amid escalating violence, officials decided to pull Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from a New Jersey immigration facility, as protests turned increasingly chaotic.

The scene outside Delaney Hall, a private detention center located in Newark, saw demonstrators clashing with federal agents, pelting them with rocks and engaging in physical altercations.

These protests were sparked by anti-ICE groups in response to reports indicating that up to 300 detainees had initiated a hunger strike, aiming to highlight alleged mistreatment and substandard conditions within the facility.

As tensions rose, several ICE agents sustained injuries, including three officers bitten by an aggressive protester on Thursday night. Additionally, a cinder block was hurled at an ICE patrol vehicle, resulting in a shattered windshield.

In a statement on X, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirmed the arrest and charging of the protester involved, pledging to take firm action against all violent demonstrations.

‘The Trump Administration will ALWAYS stand with our federal law enforcement officers,’ Mullin wrote, alongside images of the officers’ bloody bite marks.

‘Anyone who assaults a law enforcement officer will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.’

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill said Friday that she was setting up designated protest zones and checkpoints outside the facility in response, saying officials ‘need to take this opportunity to lower the temperature.’

‘It has grown unsafe, and that’s completely unacceptable,’ Sherrill said.

Following Sherrill’s order, federal agents agreed to withdraw from the parking lot of Delaney Hall, which will allow state officials to oversee the demonstrations.

The protests are scheduled to continue Saturday, with officials saying they will maintain a presence to keep agitators under control.

Sherrill said Friday that her administration ‘will be working together with community members, faith leaders, advocates and state police’ to keep people in the protest zones.

But while the Democrat said she was establishing ‘peaceful and protected’ protest zones, footage from Friday night showed clashes escalated into violence and arrests.

Footage on social media showed officers using smoke grenades and pepper spray to disperse the demonstrators, as horse-riding officers attempted to hold a perimeter.

Reports suggest a number of arrests were made on Friday night outside the facility, however the exact number has not been released by authorities. The Daily Mail has contacted the Department of Homeland Security for comment.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche also announced the arrest of a protester who was outside Delaney Hall on Thursday evening after he was caught on video threatening the lives of ICE agents and their families.

Blanche shared footage of the protester screaming ‘I’ll kill your whole f***ing family… your whole f***ing family is dead,’ as he told the Will Cain Show that he would find and prosecute the agitator.

Announcing the arrest on Friday night, Blanche wrote on X: ‘Told you.

‘(The FBI) just arrested the man who threatened to kill ICE officers and their families. FAFO [f**k around and find out].’

The protests at Delaney Hall followed reports that up to 300 detainees went on hunger strike over the past week.

The reported hunger strikes were said to be an attempt to bring attention to conditions inside the Newark facility.

The detainees allege that they have been mistreated and abused by facility staff and are being given maggot-infested food and poor medical treatment, according to WHYY.org.

Sherrill said she was denied entry when she tried to access the facility and said she supported the protesters’ cause but wanted to calm hostilities on Friday evening.

‘I am going to protect people’s right to protest peacefully and I’m going to ensure everyone’s safety, and I’m confident in New Jersey we can do both,’ the governor said.

The Democrat added that her priority is to remove federal immigration agents from her state’s immigration processes.

‘We really feel like adding ICE to the situation has made things less safe, and we’ve seen a surge now in ICE agents coming into the region, which has given us a great deal of concern,’ Sherrill said.

‘We are making sure that we give them no pretext for coming in here, clearing out the ability of people to actually raise their concerns.’

Migrants in the facility claim that they have been served beans and salad with worms inside, have been placed in crowded rooms without air conditioning and have had their immigration cases ignored by federal judges, the New Jersey Monitor reported. Some have been there for a year.

Sherrill and New Jersey Senator Andy Kim, alongside several members of the state’s Democratic-heavy Congressional delegation, showed up to the building on Monday demanding answers.

As Kim was prevented from entering he was hit by pepper balls shot out by federal agents at the anti-ICE activists.

‘What we saw here is unfortunately just what we see all over the country,’ Kim told NJ.com, adding that he had trouble breathing.

Kim, who said earlier Monday the facility should be shut down ‘immediately,’ said before the melee broke out that he was trying to get the agents to stop pointing guns at protesters and broker a truce that would allow immigration activists to inspect cars leaving the facility.

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security previously confirmed to the Daily Mail thatKim was allowed into Delaney Hall ‘to conduct his congressional oversight responsibilities.’

However, they slammed Governor Sherrill for allegedly making a difficult day for ICE and the facility even worse.

‘Governor Sherrill’s visit to Delaney Hall is nothing more than a political stunt on Memorial Day when visitation is currently suspended due to riots outside the facility,’ the spokesman told the Daily Mail.

They added that on Sunday, around 125 protesters surrounded the facility, ‘many carrying anti-ICE signs and Antifa flags’ and blocked all entries and exits.

The spokesman defended the treatment of those detained at the detention facility, saying: ‘All detainees are provided with three meals a day, clean water, clothing, bedding, showers, soap and toiletries,’ adding that dietitians evaluate those meals.

The spokesman also said that those detained can communicate with family members and lawyers and called the conditions better than most American prisons.

‘It is a longstanding practice to provide comprehensive medical care from the moment an alien enters ICE custody. This includes medical, dental, and mental health services as available, and access to medical appointments and 24-hour emergency care. For many illegal aliens, this is the best healthcare they have received their entire lives.’

How Jalen Brunson’s Jay Wright-Inspired Mindset Fuels Knicks’ Triumphs

0

Years have passed, yet one enduring lesson from Jay Wright remains etched in Jalen Brunson’s memory.

“Attitude was everything,” recalled the star guard for the Knicks, speaking of his former coach at Villanova. “It was emblazoned on every wall, every shirt, even inside our jerseys. Jay always emphasized controlling your attitude. I might not say it as often now, but my version of that is focusing on what you can control.”

This mindset has been crucial to Brunson’s journey. Despite clinching two national championships with Villanova and earning the title of National Player of the Year in 2017-18, Brunson found himself drafted in the second round. It took him until his fourth NBA season to secure a position as a starter. When he signed with the Knicks, many questioned if he was worth the investment.

Drowning out external distractions—whether praise or criticism—has been key to Brunson’s rise in the league.

“Controlling your attitude, and your effort, those are the constants you can manage,” Brunson explained, reflecting on Wright’s teachings. “That was the mantra we lived by, from ending huddles to beginning games and practices. Once we truly embraced it, everything seemed to fall into place more naturally.”

Brunson, of course, isn’t the only former Villanova star on the Knicks. Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges were teammates with the Wildcats, too.

They are looking to become the fifth group of teammates to win an NBA and NCAA championship together.

The previous ones are Derek Anderson and Antoine Walker (Kentucky, Heat), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Lucius Allen (UCLA, Bucks), John Havlicek and Larry Siegfried (Ohio State, Celtics) and Bill Russell and K.C. Jones (San Francisco, Celtics).

“Man, you can tell Coach Wright has instilled a lot of great qualities in all of these guys,” Mike Brown said. “They’re selfless. They all have a competitive spirit. They’re all about the right stuff, and they’re great human beings to be around.

“So I’m sure it wasn’t just Coach Wright who helped raise them, but to be able to play for him and have that continue at the highest level while competing for championships in college definitely made my job easier. When you have guys like that and those guys are the leaders of your team, we were talking about all of them, and then it rubs off on everybody else, and it just makes for a fantastic environment to be a part of.”

Thrilling Nightmare: 8 Riders Stranded for Over 3 Hours on Texas Roller Coaster

In a dramatic incident at a Texas amusement park, eight individuals found themselves suspended near the apex of a towering roller coaster, waiting for more than three hours before being rescued by firefighters. This ordeal unfolded at Pleasure Pier in Galveston, as reported by officials.

The Galveston Police Department received a call around 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, alerting them to the malfunction of the Iron Shark roller coaster. Promptly, emergency services sprang into action at the popular amusement destination.

There were eight passengers on the roller coaster when it unexpectedly came to a halt. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the situation was handled with precision and care.

Rescue operations involved the Galveston Fire Department, which deployed a ladder truck to reach the immobilized riders. Utilizing safety harnesses, firefighters meticulously evacuated each person one at a time, a painstaking task that extended over three and a half hours.

In a related incident, guests at Six Flags were left stranded 245 feet in the air after a power outage necessitated an emergency evacuation of the coaster.

The malfunction was captured live by local television stations, showing passengers stranded near the top of the ride’s 100-foot vertical lift hill.

The Houston Independent School District confirmed that some of the riders were students participating in a field trip organized by Energized for STEM Academy Middle School and Energized for STEM Academy High School, two HISD in-district charter schools, FOX 26 Houston reported.

“We are grateful that all students, staff, and chaperones are safe. School administration is in direct contact with the families of all students who were on the trip. We are thankful for the rescue efforts of the first responders and park personnel,” the district said in a statement.

Officials have not said what caused the ride to malfunction.

“The ride experienced a malfunction at its initial ascent,” Pleasure Pier COO Terry Turney said in a statement. “However, as designed, it immediately stopped to keep everyone safe.”

Shocking Incident: Man Dismantles Home with Family Inside – A Bizarre Tale of Destruction

0

A Pennsylvania man faces allegations of attempting to demolish his own house following a heated dispute with his wife, who reportedly declared their marriage over.

Eric Pierwsza, 48, was taken into custody on Tuesday after he allegedly operated an excavator to damage the rear portion of his home while his wife and two daughters remained inside.

According to a criminal complaint referenced by CBS News, Pierwsza’s wife recounted to authorities that her husband returned home inebriated, leading to an argument between them.

During the altercation, after his wife proclaimed the end of their marriage, Pierwsza allegedly responded with a threat, stating, “If it’s over, I’ll tear the house down.”

Shortly thereafter, he purportedly used a Kubota excavator to begin dismantling the back of their residence, despite the presence of his family inside.

Dramatic images show the home in Sarver had completely caved in after the machine tore at the sides.

According to the complaint, dispatchers heard yelling and the sound of heavy machinery during Pierwsza’s wife’s phone call.

Both Pierwsza’s wife and their daughters were able to escape the home before they were injured, police said.

Buffalo Township Police Chief Timothy Derringer of the Buffalo Township Police Department told WPXI: ‘You never know what people are thinking today.

‘It is an unfortunate incident, I will say for all involved and hopefully it is an isolated incident and there are no other incidents in the future.’

Investigators said that Pierwsza went back inside after damaging the house and grabbed a gym bag before he took off toward Fawn Township, CBS News reported.

Before responding officers arrived on the scene, Pierwsza had allegedly fled in a vehicle before police reached him by phone.

He turned himself in to police later that day, WXPI reported.

‘I’d like to know what she said to him because I’ll make sure I don’t say it,’ a neighbor told CBS News. ‘Forty-two years I’ve been married, but I’ve never threatened to tear the house down.’

According to police, his wife planned to file a protection-from-abuse order, the outlet reported.

‘I can’t say this has happened in the past, it hasn’t,’ Derringer said. ‘But domestic violence is a real issue. Whether it’s here in this community and in every community.’
