Authorities in California have issued a startling update regarding a chemical storage tank at risk of detonating at an aerospace site.

The Orange County Fire Authority shared an urgent notice on Sunday, indicating that a specialized crew identified a ‘potential crack’ in the 34,000-gallon tank situated at the GKN Aerospace facility.

Interim Fire Chief TJ McGovern elaborated in a video posted on X, stating, “During the operation, our personnel managed to inspect the tank closely and discovered what appears to be a crack.”

This alarming find might be contributing to a reduction in the tank’s internal pressure, McGovern noted, adding that the team is actively ‘vetting and validating’ this critical information.

As the situation develops, McGovern mentioned that officials might adjust their approach to prioritize averting a hazardous explosion.

‘Last night was a successful operation for this emerging incident. There’s going to be a lot more information coming today as we vet and validate all that information,’ McGovern added.

‘I want to reiterate – last night, this operation gave us positive intel to make educated decisions today in a positive light. We’re not there yet, but this was a step in a right direction.’

The chief concluded that more information will be released ‘shortly.’

Officials released a new map showing the potential blast zones of a chemical tank on the verge of exploding at an aerospace facility in Garden Grove, California

Schools in the area have been closed and 50,000 people have been evacuated from around the city of Garden Grove since officials reported the toxic leak Thursday afternoon.

The tank contains methyl methacrylate (MMA), a highly flammable chemical used to make acrylic plastics.

Officials said a crew checked an internal gauge and found the temperature has been rising by about one degree every hour since Thursday morning.

It is currently unclear what has caused the chemicals to overheat. 

Officials have been battling to contain the leak but have so far been unsuccessful and previously warned it will only be a matter of time before it ‘ruptures or explodes.’ 

On Saturday, officials released a map showing the potential blast zones should the tank explode, along with nearby areas that could be affected from the impact.

The severe damage blast zone consists of the innermost circle closest to the tank, representing areas where ‘severe structural damage and significant harm’ are expected.

Just outside are the moderate damage blast zone and light blast damage zone, where officials predict more limited structural damage and potential harm, though less severe.

At the center of a map is a dark red oval indicating where flammable conditions could spark a fire or flash fire.

The orange oval, officials said, marks areas immediately dangerous to life and health, where exposure could ’cause injury if anyone inhales or is impacted by the product in question.’

Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Nick Freeman warned that the highly toxic chemical poses severe health risks to people and animals in this area, particularly to the respiratory system.

Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Craig Covey said: ‘This thing is going to fail, and we don’t know when’

‘Respiratory is our primary concern, so it’s a respiratory irritant,’ he told KTLA.

‘It can start off very mild but it can progress to a point where you would probably require hospitalization, if not more.’

Orange County Health Officer Dr Regina Chinsio-Kwong added that inhaling the vapor could cause dizziness, nausea, and, at high levels, severe respiratory distress.

‘When you have limited, short-term exposure, meaning maybe you inhaled some of the vapor, it can cause significant irritation in the lungs, the nasal passages,’ she told the outlet.

The final and largest area – the yellow oval zone – is considered a non-hazardous zone, marking the odor threshold.

Freeman said: ‘This product has a very low odor threshold and can be smelled very easily, so that’s why the area is very large, but it is non-hazardous at that level.’

Chinsio-Kwong explained that the chemical has a strong, fruity scent, but noted that ‘smelling it doesn’t mean it will have health impacts.’

‘We know that when you smell it, you don’t typically have symptoms and when you actually measure the levels in the air, it doesn’t mean it’s dangerous,’ she told KTLA.

‘But again, if you are not in the evacuation zones, we do not expect any health impacts.’

Desolate evacuated residential areas 

Officials said the orange oval zone represents areas immediately dangerous to life and health, where exposure could ’cause injury if anyone inhales or is impacted by the product in question’

She also stressed that the evacuation zone was based on a worst-case scenario, and urged all residents to stay away from evacuated areas.

‘If you are not in the evacuation zone, you do not need to worry,’ she added, noting that masks are not necessary. ‘If you remain in the evacuation zone, that’s where your risk increases.’

‘We have taken all the things into consideration and the map and blast zone map is just thinking about the worst case scenario. If you were told to evacuate, please evacuate because we’re trying to keep in mind your safety.’

The aerospace facility has a toxic history, previously paying nearly $910,000 to settle environmental violations, the New York Post reported. 

GKN agreed to a settlement with the South Coast Air Quality Management District in January 2025 over permit problems, missing pollution records and harmful nitrogen oxide issues at its Garden Grove plant. 

Inspectors discovered these issues back in 2020, with public records showing the plant used operated with harmful chemicals, including one called hexavalent chromium, which is a known cancer-causing substance.

Regulators said the plant may have released too much air pollution and didn’t properly test emissions like nitrogen oxides, which come from burning fuel.

The agency issued a violation notice in April 2021 and kept asking the company for more records over time.

Later, in March 2025, regulators again told the company to provide documents and fix paperwork about equipment and ownership changes at the facility, per public records.

GKN paid a civil penalty of a staggering $900,000, according to South Coast AQMD. Now the California Division of Occupational Safety is investigating the current chemical debacle.

Emergency teams addressing the chemical crisis at an aerospace facility in Southern California have identified what authorities believe to be a potential fracture in an unstable tank, which might be alleviating internal pressure.

In a video update shared on social media Sunday, Interim Chief T.J. McGovern of the Orange County Fire Authority detailed that specialized crews ventured into the danger zone late Saturday night. During their reconnaissance mission, they visually detected what seemed to be a crack in the tank at the heart of the emergency.

“They observed what could be a crack in the tank, possibly releasing some pressure from within,” McGovern explained.

Authorities are currently working to verify this finding, as McGovern noted that confirmation could alter the approach to handling the situation.

“With this new information, it could change our trajectory and our strategy to this event,” he said.

The overnight operation marked one of the first successful close-range inspections of the tank since the emergency escalated Thursday night at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove, where crews have been racing to prevent a catastrophic failure involving methyl methacrylate, or MMA – a volatile and flammable plastic epoxy chemical.

The leak was discovered at the aerospace manufacturing facility, which produces engine structures and components for commercial and military aircraft.

Authorities previously warned the deteriorating tank could either rupture and spill thousands of gallons of hazardous chemicals or explode during a “thermal runaway” event, potentially triggering neighboring tanks and creating a wider disaster.

The discovery now presents what officials suggested could be a more favorable scenario than initially feared, though crews cautioned the threat has not yet passed.

“We’re not there yet, but this was a step in the right direction,” McGovern said.

More than 40,000 residents remain under evacuation orders as officials continue monitoring temperatures, air quality and structural conditions around the facility.

Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency Saturday as crews shifted from defensive containment operations to high-risk offensive actions aimed at preventing an explosion.

McGovern praised firefighters and hazardous materials specialists involved in the overnight mission, calling the operation successful and emphasizing that public safety remains the top priority before residents can return home.

“We want to get you back, but we cannot do that until it’s deemed safe,” he said.

Officials said additional updates are expected later Sunday as engineers and hazardous materials experts analyze the new findings.

In a dramatic turn of events during Saturday’s celebrity MMA showdown, Ray J suffered a harsh knockout while also grappling with a personal claim that he may only have a few months left to live.

The 45-year-old singer went head-to-head with YouTuber Supa Hot Fire at a UFC Apex event hosted by livestreamer Adin Ross in Las Vegas. The match concluded swiftly in the second round when 35-year-old Supa Hot Fire landed a decisive punch, flooring the “One Wish” artist.

Following the impactful hit, Ray J appeared disoriented, stumbling against the ropes before collapsing to the mat. Though he managed to rise, he soon had to sit back down on a stool, prompting the referee to call off the fight.

“2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” he said in a video clip shared to social media. “That’s what they say.”

“I shouldn’t have went this hard, bro,” he continued, adding, “My baby mama [estranged wife Princess Love] gonna be straight, my kids gonna be straight, if they wanna spend all the money, they can spend it. I did my part here.”

“And damn, when it’s all done, burn me, don’t bury me,” he directed.

Later that month, Ray J told TMZ that doctors had advised he remain on bedrest taking Jardiance and Entresto — medications for people at high risk of heart failure — and the cholesterol medication Lipitor, among others.

He also said he was considering traveling to Haiti for treatment.

The younger brother of singer Brandy is no stranger to alarming claims.

Last month, the father of two claimed he’s slept with over 12,500 different women — sometimes five to 10 women a day while on tour — during his appearance on Cam Newton’s “Funky Friday” podcast.

But he noted that now that he’s older, he has a limit.

“I can only f–k a thousand more b–ches,” he added. “I can’t do any more.”

Centerville, Massachusetts — On the fateful day of the Pearl Harbor attack, Freeman Johnson, the nation’s oldest living survivor, was deep below deck, focused on repairing one of the USS St. Louis’s boilers. Unaware of the chaos unfolding above, Johnson worked diligently, disconnected from the sounds of war that raged on the surface.

Now 106 years old, Johnson never witnessed the surprise assault firsthand. He didn’t hear the clamor of his shipmates as they manned the antiaircraft guns, successfully downing a torpedo plane. By the time Johnson emerged topside, the St. Louis, a nimble light cruiser, had skillfully navigated past midget submarines and was safely at sea.

“While all the commotion was happening topside, I was inside a steam drum. I couldn’t see a thing, absolutely nothing,” Johnson recounted from his Centerville home, adorned with memorabilia of his naval service. His living room is a testament to his life at sea, featuring photographs of a youthful Johnson on the St. Louis, alongside a collection of Navy challenge coins and ribbons marking his journeys. Among his cherished items is his military identification tag, commonly known as a dog tag.

Even as the St. Louis ventured into the vast Pacific, Johnson, whose role on the ship was that of a fireman, remained largely unaware of the extent of the attack.

“We were far out to sea, far out. No land in sight, just the endless ocean,” he remembered. “I was simply a sailor, a swabbie, not an officer. Information wasn’t shared unless necessary, and for me, it wasn’t. So, they told us nothing.”

When he visited schools, children often asked Johnson whether he was scared that day. “You’re not scared. You’re too busy to be scared,” he said, his gravelly voice rising. “Besides, you don’t know what you’re scared of. You can’t see anything. What are you afraid of?

One of only 11 survivors

Johnson became the oldest survivor after World War II Navy veteran Ira “Ike” Schab died in December. He was 105. With Schab’s passing as well as the death of Clarence Lane in February at the age of 100, there remain only 11 survivors of the surprise attack, which killed just over 2,400 troops and propelled the United States into the war. The United States mourns the nation’s fallen service members on Memorial Day, which takes place Monday.

Every year, there is a remembrance ceremony at the military base’s waterfront for Pearl Harbor survivors.

About 2,000 survivors attended the 50th anniversary event in 1991. A few dozen have showed in recent decades. In 2024, only two made it. That is out of an estimated 87,000 troops stationed on Oahu that day. None made the pilgrimage to Hawaii last year.

Growing recognition

For most of his life, Johnson avoided the spotlight and talked little about surviving the bombing. After all, he was one of the tens of thousands sailors who were there on that tragic day. He recalled his wife, Ruth, “thought that was something special” so she called the Navy and “the girl laughed at her.”

But as the oldest survivor, he’s become a local celebrity and the reluctant face of one of the most important events in World War II. Johnson showed up at his 106th birthday party in a limousine and was mugged by television cameras. He gets letters from all over the world and is routinely called a hero wherever he goes out.

Johnson, who is hard of hearing, needs a walker to get around and suffers from congestive heart failure, can recall his wartime experience down to the smallest detail. A 19-year-old who was unemployed and living at home in Waltham, Johnson said he feared being drafted so he signed up for the Navy — because he felt it would be less physically taxing than the Army.

“As a kid, I walked. If I wanted to go somewhere, I walked or took my bicycle. But I didn’t want to walk from France to Germany,” he said, sitting in a recliner, dressed in an oversized flannel shirt and waving his hands like an orchestra conductor.

“It’s a long way carrying a knapsack with you … Water for a day, food for a day, a 9-pound Springfield rifle all on your back and walking through the mud,” he said. “No thanks. That’s why I joined the Navy.”

Witnessing history

Johnson’s memories have less to do with battles while on the St. Louis, and later aboard the USS Iowa, than their significant roles in history. He helped commission the Iowa and recalled the battleship’s preparations in November 1943 ahead of transporting President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Tehran Conference with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.

The ship was equipped with two elevators and a bathtub. All the ammunition and much of the oil was removed to lighten the ship as it made its way down the Potomac River to pick up Roosevelt. It was reloaded before the ship headed out to sea.

“It was a big meeting,” Johnson said, recalling how the crew were photographed with Roosevelt. “I don’t know what they talked about, but I didn’t need to know. We picked him back up, brought him home.”

Johnson also witnessed the war’s end aboard the Iowa. He was on the Iowa’s mast watching the surrender ceremonies about a mile away in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri on Sept. 2, 1945.

“I could see the boats coming up with the Marines escorting the Japanese onto ship and sitting around a table,” he said. “It was all over. That was the end of the war. A bunch of us got together — the war is over. Let’s go home.”

Telling the story of Pearl Harbor

These days, his daughter, Diane Johnson, is often by his side. They live together and always take a trip on Dec. 7, often attending Pearl Harbor remembrance events, including the 65th and 80th anniversary in Hawaii. She often poses questions to get her father talking and likes to nag him that he has “a responsibility” to share the story of Pearl Harbor —- especially for children who know little about the bombing.

“It’s kind of overwhelming when you think of it. Well, the 106 is what gets me,” she said. “When I think about his history, he’s at the beginning, he’s at middle, he is at the end when he witnessed the surrender. It’s something.”

Johnson began getting more attention several ago, when Diane Johnson heard a local television report suggesting the last survivor in the state had died. She called to correct the record and that raised his profile. Johnson also started making regular appearances in the Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade, often leading from the front.

“I wish more people were like him today. He just gets on and doesn’t complain about anything,” said Desmond Keogh, the chairman of the parade who has accompanied Johnson. “It’s what this country was all about. They were just a different generation. They did what was best for their country.”

For all the attention to Pearl Harbor, the gruff Johnson, who is known for his cackling laugh and mischievous smile, doesn’t see it as a defining moment in his life.

That would have been getting married after the war to his late wife and having three daughters. He also worked for years in a machinist shop, then in a convenience store and, finally, delivering meals to seniors — all jobs he retired from, the last one at the age of 90.

“Pearl Harbor just happened. I can’t put it any other way,” he said.

James Fishback, a prominent conservative candidate in Florida’s gubernatorial race, took to social media on Saturday to announce his marriage to a woman whose identity had previously been kept under wraps. This announcement comes shortly after his split from a former girlfriend.

Fishback, 31, shared a photo on X, capturing a moment from the wedding ceremony held at a Catholic church in Wildwood, Florida. His post read, “Logging off a bit. Getting married. Brb.”

He later shared a video that depicted their day with the caption: ‘I always had a vision of us standing like this.’ 

The wedding appears to have taken place only weeks after Fishback disclosed in February that his ex-girlfriend, Francesca Raine, ended their relationship. Raine reportedly left him following his decision to use Tinder as a campaign tactic aimed at connecting with young female voters.

Interestingly, during their brief month-long relationship, Fishback referred to Raine, known in some circles as “Crypto Barbie,” as his wife, despite their unmarried status.

Details about Fishback’s new wife remain scarce, though he did confirm her name is Valeria in a comment to the New York Post.

His primary opponent in the Florida GOP primary for governor, which takes place on August 18, is Congressman Byron Donalds.

Donalds, the front-running Republican who currently represents Florida’s 19th Congressional District, encompassing Naples and Cape Coral is also backed by President Donald Trump.

Conservative firebrand candidate for Florida governor James Fishback, 31, announced that he had tied the knot on Saturday

Fishback has drawn criticism for aligning himself with alt-right figures like white supremacist Nick Fuentes, and controversial online streamers Clavicular and Sneako. 

Fuentes wore Fishback’s campaign merchandise on his May 1 livestream. During the stream, Fuentes went on a rant about living in a ‘non-white country’ and used a racial slur to describe the US. 

He then joked that he should not have used the slur while ‘repping’ Fishback’s campaign. Fuentes then praised Fishback, adding that his campaign was ‘on fire’ and he’s ‘been incredible.’ 

In response to Fuentes’ support, Fishback previously told the Daily Mail that he supported free speech. 

‘I’ve never spoken to him. I’ve never met him in my life. What I would say is I support the free speech of anyone in this country, regardless of what that speech is,’ Fishback said. 

‘We have to believe in the First Amendment, and I support the free speech of anyone who wants to disagree with that person’s free speech.’

Fishback has promoted policies like banning surrogacy, ending H1-B visas for skilled foreign workers and abolishing abortion.

The gubernatorial candidate notably had a feud with Only Fans superstar Sophie Rain after he proposed a ‘sin tax’ for creators on the website.

Fishback announced that Raine left him after he joined Tinder as a campaign strategy to reach young female voters

Fishback proposed a policy which would guarantee ‘all revenue from Florida’s 50 percent OnlyFans Tax will increase public school teacher pay and improve school lunches.’

‘I don’t want young women who could otherwise be mothers raising families, rearing children, I don’t want them to be selling their bodies to sick men online,’ he told NXR Studios at the beginning of the year. 

In December of 2025, NBC News alleged a Florida school district cut ties with him following allegations he had an inappropriate relationship with a minor student.

The woman requested an order of protection against Fishbeck in 2025, claiming he pursued a relationship with her in 2022 when she was 17 and he was 27.

‘These allegations from several years ago are completely false, and after two lengthy court hearings in Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit, I was fully exonerated. I have never been arrested, charged, or convicted of any crime,’ Fishback said at the time.
