Viktor Orbán Concedes Defeat: Opposition Leader Poised for Historic Supermajority Victory

0

On Sunday, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán acknowledged his defeat in the parliamentary elections, describing the outcome as both “clear” and “painful.” Partial vote counts indicated a significant victory for opposition leader Péter Magyar.

According to a social media update, Magyar confirmed that Orbán called him to concede.

As about 53% of the votes were tallied, projections suggested that Magyar’s Tisza party was on course for a sweeping victory, potentially securing a two-thirds majority in parliament.

This result could signify a substantial political shift in Hungary, where Orbán has held leadership for over ten years.

Days before the election, Trump reiterated his support for Orbán in a post on Truth Social.

“My Administration stands ready to use the full economic might of the United States to strengthen Hungary’s Economy, as we have done for our great allies in the past, if Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian People ever need it,” Trump said. “We are excited to invest in the future prosperity that will be generated by Orbán’s continued leadership!”

Trailing in opinion polls ahead of the vote, Orbán faced his most serious electoral challenge since 2010, with surveys showing Magyar’s Tisza party holding a significant lead.

Orbán, who has led Hungary for 16 years, has drawn scrutiny from the European Union over his positions on migration, Russia’s war against Ukraine and his government’s policies, while maintaining strong support among many rural and older voters.

His strained relationship with the European Union stems in part from his stance on Russia’s war against Ukraine, his firm support of Israel and his hardline position on migration, which has led to financial penalties from the bloc.

During Orbán’s time in power, Hungary’s economy has grown relatively quickly for an EU country, though inflation has remained elevated and business sentiment has been negative in recent years.

Before the vote, Orbán had expressed confidence in his campaign, calling it “a great national moment on our side” and telling reporters, “I’m here to win.”

Magyar, meanwhile, framed the election as a turning point for the country’s future, warning that Hungary’s direction in recent years had drifted from its Western alliances.

“I think this really will be a referendum on our country’s place in the world,” Magyar said.

Tragic House Fire Claims Lives of Grandmother, Woman with Cerebral Palsy, and Caregiver: Police Investigate Arson

Inset: Braydon Blake. Background: Home in the 3800 block of East Anderson Road near Bloomington, Indiana, that Blake allegedly set on fire (WXIN).

An Indiana man has been taken into custody after allegedly setting his residence ablaze, resulting in the tragic deaths of his 74-year-old grandmother, her caregiver, and another woman who was bedridden due to cerebral palsy.

Braydon Blake faces charges of murder and arson. The incident unfolded when the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received multiple urgent calls just after 2:30 a.m. on January 18, reporting a fire with individuals trapped inside a home located on the 3800 block of East Anderson Road near Bloomington. Upon the arrival of emergency crews, they encountered a house engulfed in flames and a vehicle that had collided with the garage.

Emergency responders discovered an 18-year-old woman who had managed to escape the inferno, albeit with severe burns. Another individual also fled the scene. Both were swiftly transported to a medical facility, where, tragically, one succumbed to her injuries several weeks later, as reported by the Bloomington Herald-Times. The deceased was identified as 53-year-old Paula Anderson. Firefighters, entering the home, found the bodies of two other women: 74-year-old Mary Blake and 33-year-old Kristine Rowan, who was Anderson’s daughter.

Approximately an hour following the distressing event, law enforcement found Braydon Blake, identified by witnesses as the suspected arsonist, hiding in a wooded section of the property. He, too, was suffering from severe burns and was subsequently hospitalized.

In a press release shared by Angela Ganote, an anchor for local Fox affiliate WXIN, it was noted that Monroe County deputies maintained a vigil over Blake at Eskenazi Hospital for around a month. However, complications arose when the hospital released Blake on April 1 without notifying the deputies, contrary to an agreement with the sheriff’s office.

Deputies learned on Thursday that Blake was free. With the help of the Indiana State Police and U.S. Marshals, deputies arrested Blake in Avon on Friday.

WXIN reported that Rowan, Anderson’s daughter, was bedridden. Mary Blake was suffering from cancer. The outlet also reported that the motive for the fire may have been a rape allegation against the defendant.

Blake remains in the Monroe County Jail without bond.

According to a GoFundMe account description by Anderson’s sister, Rowan suffered from cerebral palsy. Her 18-year-old sister also suffered serious burns in the fire.

“The fire, set by a member of the older woman’s family, took the lives of his own grandmother and my 33-year-old niece Kristine, who had lived with cerebral palsy and was bedridden,” Lindsey Pesonen wrote. “In a matter of moments, we lost our family member, and everything they owned was reduced to ashes.”

Dolly Martinez, Star of ‘My 600-Lb. Life,’ Passes Away at 30

The world has lost a bright spirit as Dolly Martinez, a participant in the 10th season of “My 600-Lb. Life,” passed away at the age of 30.

In a heartfelt message, her sister Lindsey Cooper shared the news, highlighting Dolly’s vibrant nature that left an indelible mark on those around her. Lindsey’s tribute celebrated her sister’s ability to bring light into any space she entered.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beautiful sister, Dolly,” Lindsey wrote on Facebook. “Dolly had the brightest personality. She could light up any room with her laughter, her kindness, and her loving spirit. She had a way of making everyone feel special, and her warmth will stay with us forever.”

Though the family mourns their loss, Lindsey finds solace in the thought that Dolly has been reunited in the afterlife with their father. “While our hearts are broken here, I find comfort in knowing she is now reunited with our dad in heaven. I can only imagine the joy of that reunion,” she expressed.

“Rest peacefully, Dolly. You will always be loved, always be missed, and never forgotten.” Such words capture the enduring impact Dolly had on her loved ones and the lasting legacy of her spirit.

At age 25, Dolly weighed 593 pounds and was on oxygen when her episode of My 600-Lb. Life aired in 2022.

She sought the help of Dr. Now to lose the weight and ultimately lost 40 pounds. However, she did not qualify for weight loss surgery.

Dolly laid bare the turmoil she was in during her episode, saying food was the ‘only thing powerful enough to distract me from darker thoughts.’

‘Food is my go-to drug that takes my pain away,’ she said and called it ‘more than just a pleasure, it’s my reason for existing.’

‘I can’t wait for the first bite of something that will make me forget about all the misery of my life,’ she said. ‘Food has caused all of the things I hate about my life but it’s the only thing I’ve ever had to make me feel good.’

Dolly’s eating issues began long ago.

‘Ever since I can remember, food was just a coping thing… It just made me happy. It still does. Food just makes me happy.’

On the show, Dolly recalled being raised by her single mother after her father left the family due to his drug addiction.

‘I was left alone a lot and that’s how it started, my relationship with food,’ she said.

‘Whenever I would think of my dad, I would turn to food and I liked the feeling I had when I was eating.’

Dolly’s mom Staci appeared on the show and gave insight into her daughter’s troubled childhood.

‘Dolly [was] always a bit different than other children,’ she explained. ‘And other kids [were] harsh and cruel so I’ve always been the overprotective mother.’

Her mom added, ‘Being singled out as the fat girl is quite uncomfortable.’

Following her appearance on TV, the blue-haired star wrote in her Instagram bio that she was no longer homeless, ‘losing weight and feeling good.’

The profile account was made private, but she declared in the visible portion that she was ‘living day by day’ and that she loved ‘God and Family.’

‘I can see how much I’m losing. It’s a journey and I’m seeing my worth now,’ she wrote in a June 2024 Instagram post, according to Us Weekly.

After a break spanning four years, “Euphoria” is making its much-anticipated return.

The series, which catapulted a number of Gen-Z actors like Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, and Sydney Sweeney into the spotlight, premieres its third and concluding season tonight, April 12.

Rue, portrayed by Zendaya, is still on her path to sobriety, while Cassie, played by Sweeney, and Nate, played by Elordi, are adapting to life in the suburbs. Meanwhile, Jules, played by Hunter Schaefer, is pursuing art school, and both Maddy, played by Alexa Demie, and Lexi, played by Maude Apatow, have embarked on careers in Hollywood.

In her review of the new season, Page Six TV reporter Lauren Sarner describes the long-awaited return as “an off-the-rails roller coaster of insanity,” pointing out that “those seeking narrative coherence and character consistency might find Season 3 lacking.”

First Wave of Migrants Deported from US to Costa Rica Marks New Chapter in International Immigration Policy

0

The inaugural group of migrants deported from the United States to third countries has reached Costa Rica.

This initial contingent, consisting of approximately 25 individuals from nations such as Albania, Cameroon, China, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Kenya, and Morocco, landed in San Jose, the capital of the Central American nation, on Saturday.

In a statement, Costa Rica’s General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners outlined that upon arrival, the migrants will be offered primary care services by the Professional Migration Police, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

This group marks the first arrival under an agreement established in March between the United States and Costa Rica. As part of this agreement, Costa Rica has committed to accepting up to 25 deportees weekly, with the United States providing financial assistance to support the initiative.

Under the deal, Costa Rica will receive up to 25 deportees a week, while the US will provide the country with financial support in return.

The IOM will also offer food and accommodation to the migrants for the first seven days of their stay.

Such third-country deportations allow the US to remove migrants from America whose countries of origin refuse to take them back.

The deal has been criticized for costing more than $1 million in taxpayer money per deportee, according to a February report produced by Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Costa Rica reserves the right to reject deportees on an individual case.

Officials in the country have also said they won’t send deportees back to places where they may face persecution.

In 2025, Costa Rica accepted up to 200 migrants deported by the United States, eventually granting special migratory status to 85 of them who were unable to be repatriated to their home nations.

Other nations have signed similar agreements with the Trump administration to accept third-country deportees, including Dominica, Guyana, Honduras, Rwanda, St. Kitts and Nevis and South Sudan.

“Costa Rica is prepared to see this flow of people,” said the country’s public security minister, Marioa Zamora Cordero, in a video statement last month at the time of the signed agreement.

Then-Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also spoke approvingly of the deal signed with Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves.

“We are very proud to have partners like President [Chaves] and Costa Rica, who are working to ensure that people who are in our country illegally have the opportunity to return to their countries of origin,” she said in a statement at the time.

Noem has been visiting various Latin American countries, including Ecuador and Guyana, as part of her new role as US Envoy for the Shield of the Americas, after she was fired from the DHS by President Trump.

Prosecutors Report: Jonathan Roldan Charged in Fatal Shooting of US Army Veteran Andrew Garay in Humboldt Park, Chicago

0

In Chicago, a man is accused of shooting his former partner’s boyfriend to death on the city’s Northwest Side in late January, according to prosecutors.

On Sunday afternoon, the family of 30-year-old Andrew Garay expressed relief outside the courtroom, thankful that someone is now facing charges for his murder.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

“Our biggest fear was that no one would be held responsible for this crime. We are relieved that justice is being pursued,” stated Karjan Dambaugh, Garay’s cousin.

The accused individual is 35-year-old Jonathan Roldan, who was apprehended by police late last week regarding the January 23 shooting incident.

Garay, a veteran of the U.S. Army, had been in a relationship with Roldan’s ex-girlfriend for several years. Prior to this, she and Roldan were together for 17 years and share two children.

Prosecutors said witnesses identified Roldan as a suspect early in their investigation. They say a surveillance camera also captured him at the scene on the night of the murder.

Garay had just dropped his girlfriend off at her home in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and was waiting for her to go inside, prosecutors said. Roldan allegedly walked up from the gangway and fired one shot through the driver’s side window, hitting Garay in the forehead and killing him.

“He was assassinated. This wasn’t spur-of-the-moment. This was planned. It was clear from the beginning,” Dambaugh said.

Garay had a 7-year-old daughter. His family says his loss has been very difficult to deal with.

“I still struggled Daly with believing he’s gone. There are times I grabbed my phone with the instinct of calling him or sending him a quick text, and then, it hits us all over again,” Dambaugh said.

Roldan is charged with first-degree murder. The judge ordered him held in jail pending trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for next week.

Prevent Weight Regain Post-Ozempic: Science-Backed Meal Plan Unveiled

0

Currently, weight loss injections such as Ozempic and Wegovy are capturing global attention, with countless individuals relying on these medications to suppress appetite, diminish cravings, and achieve weight loss.

These treatments have been praised for their seemingly magical results. However, a frequently encountered downside emerges when usage is halted.

Many experience a rapid return of the lost weight. Oprah Winfrey is one notable figure who shared her experience of regaining 20 pounds and falling prey to persistent “food noise” upon pausing the medication.

However, this outcome is not inevitable.

Nutritionist Robbie Puddick from Second Nature suggests a scientifically validated approach to maintaining weight loss: a comprehensive seven-day meal plan designed to naturally stimulate the release of the GLP-1 hormone, emulating the drug’s effects.

‘Research shows that combining weight loss medication with a structured support program can help people not just lose significant weight but keep it off long term,’ Puddick told the Daily Mail.

‘Instead of strict dieting or calorie counting, we focus on behavioral science and building sustainable habits, and encouraging whole-food meals that naturally manage appetite and energy.’

In addition to the meal plan he has laid out for the Daily Mail, Puddick suggested drinking water and limiting caffeine after midday to support healthy sleep. If you start to feel hungry between meals, he recommended snacking on ‘protein-rich’ foods like hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cured meat, tinned fish, cheese or apple slices with nut butter.

Pope Leo XIV Embarks on Historic Journey to Africa: Uniting the Fastest-Growing Catholic Communities

0

Pope Leo XIV is set to begin a significant tour of Africa on Monday, marking his fourth international journey since assuming the papacy in 2025. This visit highlights Africa’s burgeoning role within the Catholic Church, as the continent experiences rapid growth in its Catholic population.

Though Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and a country where many have suffered for their religious beliefs, is absent from the itinerary, the visit kicks off in Algeria, a predominantly Muslim nation.

Dubbed “A Pilgrim in Africa” by the Vatican, this tour will focus on key issues such as peace, migration, environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, and family dynamics. Throughout his journey, Pope Leo XIV is slated to deliver 25 speeches in French, English, Portuguese, and Spanish, the continent’s major languages.

Observers and religious leaders emphasize the profound significance of this visit. “The Holy Father is engaging with the African church as part of the global church community,” remarked Rev. Daniel Male, secretary of the Union of Augustinian Friars of Africa, in an interview with the Religion News Service. He noted that Pope Leo XIV is acknowledging the vitality and expansion of African churches while underscoring the church’s commitment to supporting the impoverished and marginalized.

The Catholic OSV News added the visit “highlights peace efforts, the works of mercy, and the Catholic Church’s vibrant presence on the continent.”

The National Catholic Register stated that in 1910 Africa was home to less than 1 million Catholics. The latest figures available for 2024 estimate there are now 288 million.

Commenting on his absence from Nigeria, Frans Cronje, African-based analyst at the Yorktown Foundation for Freedom, told Fox News Digital “Given Nigeria’s role as the epicenter of the terror threat faced by Africa’s Christians, it will be disappointing to many of them to learn that the pope has left that country off his Africa agenda. The pontiff must be invited to a country by the host government. Analysts say that the government of Nigeria may feel a papal visit may be too sensitive at this time. But the Nigerian government did not respond to requests for comment on this issue by Fox News Digital.

Details of the trip include:

Algeria: April 13 to April 15

The Vatican’s yearbook for 2025, the Annuario Pontificio, states Catholics number 8,740 out of a population of 46–48 million. The pope is believed to be coming to Algeria to visit the ancient city of Hippo, now called Annaba. The city was home to St. Augustine, the ‘doctor of the church.’ Pope Leo is the first pontiff to belong to the Augustinian Order.

He is also expected to emphasize interfaith dialogue with Islam when he visits the Great Mosque of Algiers. This is one of the biggest in the world, capable of accommodating up to 120,000 people.

The 2026 Open Doors World Watch List placed Algeria in the 20th position for Christian persecution. It said 47 churches of the Protestant Church of Algeria (EPA) have been closed by the authorities.

The Associated Press reported that Algerian authorities rejected a Vatican request for Leo to visit to Médéa to pray at the Tibhirine monastery, the place where seven French Trappist monks were kidnapped and killed May 21, 1996, by Islamic extremists during the country’s civil war.

Cameroon: April 15 to April 18

The Catholic EWTN organization reports that Catholics make up between 30% and 35% of the population of some 30 million.

The pope will preside over five public Masses and addresses in three cities. He will also meet with vulnerable children at the Ngul Zamba Orphanage in the capital city of Yaoundé.

Angola: April 18 to April 21

In the latest government census, some 56% of Angola’s population identified as being Catholic.

The most significant part of the pope’s visit to Angola is expected to be when he goes to the town of Muxima, where he will pray at a shrine to the Virgin Mary, known locally as “Mama Muxima”, or “mother of the heart.” This is said to be the spiritual home for many Angolans, drawing over two million pilgrims to visit it every year.

Equatorial Guinea: April 21 to April 23

The Vatican has stated that approximately 80% of the population of Equatorial Guinea are Catholic. Leo will hold several Masses and addresses, and will visit a new psychiatric hospital and a prison. The Jean Pierre Olie Psychiatric Hospital in Sampaka, Malabo, was only inaugurated in December and is the country’s first modern specialized mental health facility. It collaborates with France’s Hospital Saint-Anne in Paris.

In a potentially controversial move, the pope will also visit a prison in Bata notorious for reports of inmate torture and abuse.

The Vatican did not respond to Fox News Digital questions by press time.

Pregnant Woman Fatally Defends Herself from Abusive Partner During Post-Baby Shower Attack, Lawyer Says

Supporters and legal representatives of a Chicago woman are calling for the dismissal of charges against her after she fatally stabbed her boyfriend, allegedly in self-defense, during a violent altercation. The incident occurred while the woman, who was pregnant at the time, was being attacked following her baby shower.

Julie Koehler, attorney for Keshia Golden, spoke out at a recent rally, emphasizing that Golden acted to protect herself and her unborn child from harm. “She reached for a knife to defend herself against an attacker intent on endangering both her and her child’s lives,” Koehler asserted, as reported by local ABC affiliate WLS.

The incident involved Calvin Sidney, the father of Golden’s child, who allegedly assaulted Golden by pulling her hair and slamming her head against a kitchen counter. This violent encounter reportedly escalated into another room, leading Golden to grab a knife and stab Sidney in the leg, according to Koehler’s account of the 2022 event.

Prosecutors have a different narrative, suggesting the conflict began with an argument over the use of a microwave. They claim Golden knocked a plate of food from Sidney’s hands, prompting him to push her against the counter.

Golden is accused of retreating to a bedroom with the knife, where Sidney followed her. Prosecutors allege that she stabbed him while he was on the bed, with the knife severing his femoral artery, resulting in his death from the injury.

Supporters showed up to the Golden rally last week with signs saying “Free Keshia” and “Survived + Punished: We stand with Keshia Golden” as she faces a first-degree murder charge in Cook County for the slaying.

Prosecutors say they offered Golden a deal to resolve the case, which included a plea to a reduced charge of second-degree murder with no additional time served. But she reportedly turned it down.

“That would be two years probation, but I mean, she checks in every day with pretrial already,” said Sierra Bartlett, with the Cook County Public Defender’s Office.

“She’s been doing that for three years. She’s proved that she is an upstanding citizen, and she doesn’t deserve any of this,” Bartlett told reporters. “I hope that Eileen O’Neill Burke [Cook County state’s attorney] does the right thing, because this is telling the women of Cook County that if you are in a violent relationship and you try to defend yourself, you could be facing first-degree murder charges.”

Court documents show that there were at least five police reports made of domestic violence involving Golden and her boyfriend, according to local NBC affiliate WMAQ. Four of the incidents involved allegations of physical violence, including choking, slapping, pushing and punching, WMAQ reports.

“Justice is not ignoring a woman cries for help until it’s too late and then condemning her for surviving,” said Dyanna Winchester, with the Women’s Justice Institute, at the rally last Monday.

“He choked her while she was 18 weeks pregnant,” Bartlett added. “So there’s lots of documentation, and I wish there had been more intervention at those earlier stages.”

Golden’s trial is expected to start over the summer.
