A Seattle man is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly trying to push a stranger into the path of an oncoming train. The alarming incident was captured on video.

This event took place at the bustling Northgate light rail station. As a man waited on the platform for a northbound train, investigators claim that the suspect, Elisio Melendez, approached him from behind and attempted to shove him onto the tracks just as the train was nearing.

Prosecutors assert that the attack was intentional and premeditated.

According to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, surveillance footage reveals that Melendez “carefully timed his assault,” choosing the precise moment when the train was entering the station to make his move.

The video shows a suspect sneaking up on a man from behind and attempting to push him toward the tracks at Seattle’s Northgate light rail station. This footage was provided by the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim managed to catch himself at the last second, avoiding what prosecutors described as a potentially deadly fall.

But the encounter didn’t end there.

“This story ends with great work by our Sound Transit deputies who took a dangerous person off the streets,” the King County Sheriff’s Office said, calling images from the incident “quite chilling.”

Though the suspect initially ran off, investigators say a combination of surveillance video and “very good detective work” led them to Melendez at a nearby mental health community center, where he lived, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators went to a residence March 24, where an employee identified Melendez and officers took him into custody, KING 5 reported. Clothing matching what the suspect was wearing during the incident was also recovered from his room, the outlet reported.

He was arrested and booked into the King County Correctional Facility, where records show he is being held on $750,000 bail on an attempted second-degree murder charge and is awaiting trial.

King County prosecutors told Fox News Digital the charge was formally filed March 26 and confirmed the case remains ongoing.

A court-ordered competency evaluation is now underway and will determine whether Melendez is able to understand the charges and stand trial, prosecutors said. An arraignment will be scheduled once that process is complete.

The case also highlights a troubling history.

Prosecutors said Melendez was previously charged in a 2019 domestic violence assault case but was ultimately found not competent to stand trial and not restorable after multiple court-ordered treatment periods, the maximum allowed under state law.

That case was dismissed in February 2021, and he was ordered into civil commitment at Western State Hospital under state supervision.

He remained there until January 2022, when state officials determined he had improved enough to be released to a less restrictive alternative.

Prosecutors noted that once a defendant is found not competent and not restorable, there is no legal path to continue a criminal case.

They also emphasized that a competency evaluation does not mean charges will be dropped, and cases can remain active for months while courts attempt to restore a defendant’s ability to stand trial.

It’s still unclear what sparked the attack or whether the victim was specifically targeted, but investigators say the man was approached from behind, seemingly at random.

The case remains under investigation.

SEATTLE – A blazing performance from a key Yankees slugger posed a challenge to the team’s planned strategy just six games into the season.

Nonetheless, Aaron Boone remained committed to a long-term perspective, which is why Giancarlo Stanton began Wednesday’s series finale against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park seated on the bench.

The Yankees had emphasized throughout spring training that they intended to give Stanton regular rest days to ensure his health for the entire season. This strategy proved effective last year when the 36-year-old designated hitter started his season in June after recovering from tennis elbow in both arms.

Despite Stanton’s impressive start this season—going 10-for-20 over five games with consistent 2-for-4 performances—he was not in the lineup on Wednesday against Mariners pitcher George Kirby.

“This was a day we had planned for him,” Boone explained prior to the game. “We discussed it a few days ago and wanted to maintain our discipline and be smart about it. He’s obviously off to a remarkable start. I hate having him out of the lineup, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have the most critical at-bat today. He’ll be ready off the bench if needed in a crucial situation. But we wanted to stick to our plan for this day.”

Boone acknowledged that Stanton’s monster start to the season made it a little harder to not write his name into the lineup, but he also knows the value of getting him an off day into a team day off – something the Yankees did often with the veteran last season.

“I think the way we had those days in there kept him available regularly,” Boone said. “Also last year, more than ever before too, he was a little bit of a factor off the bench for us too. Just because he’s not starting doesn’t mean he’s not that presence or factor at some point in the game. But I do think hopefully, this is something that over the long haul will keep him available pretty much all the time. Hopefully it’s something that serves him and us well.”

Ben Rice moved to DH on Wednesday while Paul Goldschmidt got the start at first base. Amed Rosario also started at third base for Ryan McMahon, who was off to a slow start (1-for-14, seven strikeouts).

In addition to making reusable rockets to hurl astronauts and hardware into orbit, SpaceX owns Starlink, the world’s largest satellite communications company. The company also recently brought under its roof two other Musk businesses, social media platform X, formerly Twitter, and artificial intelligence business, xAI, in a controversial transaction because both the seller and the buyer were controlled by him.

SpaceX has become the biggest commercial launch company in its industry, responsible for sending payloads into orbit for customers across the globe, but has also benefited from big taxpayer spending. That has raised conflicts of interest issues given that Musk was the biggest donor to President Donald Trump’s campaign and is still a big backer.

In the past five years, SpaceX won $6 billion in contracts from NASA, the Defense Department and other U.S. government agencies, according to USAspending.gov.

Among current SpaceX owners is Donald Trump Jr, the president’s oldest son. He owns shares through 1789 Capital. That venture capital firm made him a partner shortly after his father won the presidency for a second time and has been buying up federal contractors seeking to win taxpayer money ever since.

The White House and Trump himself have repeatedly denied there are any conflicts of interest between his role as president and his family’s businesses.
