The mugshot of Tiger Woods has been unveiled following his DUI arrest in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday.

In the photo, the famed golfer is seen with bloodshot eyes and a serious expression, gazing directly at the camera without a smile.

Following a dramatic rollover car accident, which took place shortly after 2 p.m. near 281 Beach Road, Woods was approached by DUI investigators at the location.

“Woods exhibited signs of impairment and refused to undergo a urinalysis test, resulting in charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test,” Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek reported at a press conference.

He further explained that officers “didn’t suspect alcohol involvement in this case,” noting that Woods “registered triple zeros” on the Breathalyzer test.

According to authorities, the 82-time PGA winner was driving a “dark colored Land Rover” when he attempted to pass a utility pressure cleaner truck, allegedly clipping the “back end” of the truck’s trailer, at which point it rolled.

Cops stated that Woods, 50, crawled out of his vehicle following the incident and confirmed that no one involved in the accident was injured.

The sheriff also confirmed that Woods was alone in the Land Rover at the time of the crash.

This is Woods’ second DUI arrest. In May 2017, he was busted for a DUI in Jupiter, Fla., after cops found him passed out behind the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz. 

His mugshot quickly went viral on social media due to the pro athlete’s scruffy and bleary-eyed appearance.

At the time, Woods blamed his arrest on an “unexpected reaction” to medication he’d been taking post-back surgery and denied that alcohol was involved.

Tests showed he had Vicodin, Dilaudid, Xanax, Ambien and THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in his system.

Police also said it appeared he’d been in a minor car accident before they found him. 

Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a deal to avoid conviction for DUI, and was sentenced to one year of probation and a $250 fine.

Soon after his arrest made headlines, he announced he was seeking “professional help” to “manage” his medications.

Woods has been involved in several serious car crashes. His near-fatal accident in the outskirts of Los Angeles in 2021 left him with permanent leg injuries.

“It was very fortunate that Mr. Woods was able to come out of this alive,” Deputy Carlos Gonzalez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, who was first on the scene, said at the time.

Chicago Police Officer and Sullivan High School Guard Suspended for Inappropriate Student Interactions

A Chicago police officer, who also served as a security guard at a local school, has been placed on leave, according to official statements released on Friday.

In a communication to the families, the principal of Sullivan High School, located in Rogers Park, announced that the officer was removed from his position as a part-time security guard last month.

The officer is under investigation for allegedly “engaging inappropriately with students,” as stated by school authorities. The investigation is being conducted by the Office of the Inspector General.

Families and students affected by these allegations have been informed about the situation.

The Chicago Police Department also verified on Friday that the officer had his police powers suspended last month, although the reason for this action has not been disclosed.

Chicago Public Schools issued a statement, saying “Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is committed to the safety and well-being of our students and takes seriously all allegations of employee misconduct. CPS investigates and addresses all complaints in accordance with District policies and procedures to foster safe and secure learning environments in all schools. In accordance with privacy laws, the District does not comment on ongoing investigations or personnel matters.”

For the first time, Australia has utilized wearable technology to monitor how its citizens sleep and move, uncovering that Australians average just over 7.5 hours of sleep each night.

In 2023, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) conducted a study involving over 4,000 participants who volunteered to wear devices tracking their activity and sleep patterns.

This Tuesday, the ABS unveiled the findings, offering a closer look at Australians’ sleep behaviors, alongside insights into their exercise habits.

Here’s a summary of the findings.

How are we sleeping?

The data reveals that participants in the study slept an average of seven hours and 36 minutes per night.

Ten per cent of adults slept more than nine hours a night on average, while 9 per cent got less than six hours.

Females slept 13 minutes longer than males, while those who lived in regional Australia got an extra nine minutes compared to those who lived in cities.

Living with dependent children shaved an average of 16 minutes off the time someone snoozed.

How much someone worked also impacted how long they slept.

People who worked more than 35 hours a week slept 20 minutes less than people who worked less than 35 hours a week.

Smoking also impacted people’s sleep, with non-smokers clocking an extra 16 minutes of sleep compared to smokers.

How often are we sitting still?

The ABS also used the data to track how often and how intensely the people in the study moved.

According to the data, people over the age of 18 took an average of 9,065 steps per day, while those over the age of 75 took an average of 5,776 steps.

Children aged five to 11 years old took nearly 13,000 steps a day on average.

They found 25 per cent of people did no vigorous physical activity in the week they wore the devices, while almost one in ten adults averaged more than ten minutes a day.

Seventy-seven per cent of Adults did at least one hour of moderate activity a day, with nearly ten 10 per cent doing three hours or more.

According to the data, children aged five to 11 years old did nearly an hour and a half of moderate or vigorous activity, while teenagers did just 40 minutes per day.

The average adult was inactive for nearly 12 hours each day, including while sleeping.

How are we eating?

The sleep and movement data are part of a broader public health study by the ABS, which has also studied people’s diets.

Released last year, the earlier part of this study found that people were consuming an average of 3.2kg of food and drinks — including water — a day.

It also found that “discretionary” or “junk foods” made up 31.3 per cent of the average person’s diet.

This was down from 35.5 per cent in a 2011-12 study.

The study also found that one in four participants reported being on some kind of diet.

The unsettling incident took place shortly after 11 a.m. on a Wednesday in Vacaville, a city located about 35 miles southwest of Sacramento. The Vacaville Police Department reported that a vigilant resident called 911 to alert them about a driver who seemed to be dozing off.

Compounding the issue, police noted that the car had not come to a stop.

According to authorities, the vehicle continued to move through traffic, posing a significant threat to other motorists. The caller remained on the line, offering continuous updates that enabled officers to locate the car and safely halt it near the intersection of Elmira Road and Shasta Drive.

But it’s what officers found inside the car that quickly raised red flags.

Images released by the department show an open box of wine, a partially consumed bottle and takeout food scattered across the passenger seat, along with other loose items inside the vehicle.

Investigators say they determined the driver was under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Police also drew strong reactions on social media after sharing images from the incident.

“That time when his vehicle had more situational awareness than he did,” one commenter wrote.

Others praised both the caller and responding officers for preventing a potentially dangerous crash.

“Glad no one was hurt. Great job of getting this guy off the road,” another user added.

The Vacaville Police Department noted that while newer vehicles may include assistive driving features, those systems are no substitute for a sober, alert driver.

Police also credited the quick-thinking caller for helping prevent what could have turned into a serious crash.

“Your calls help make our streets safer,” the department said.

On the surface, a movement encouraging young men to enhance their physical appearance and boost their self-esteem seems benign, even beneficial. However, experts caution that the rapidly expanding trend known as looksmaxxing harbors a more sinister aspect.

So what is it, and why are some health professionals calling it “terrifying”?

Looksmaxxing has gained renewed momentum on social media platforms such as Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok. It primarily involves men striving to enhance their physical looks.

This pursuit of aesthetic improvement falls into two main categories: “softmaxxing” and “hardmaxxing.”

“Softmaxxing” represents the initial phase of this trend, focusing on fundamental aspects like maintaining good hygiene and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Activities such as following skincare routines, eating nutritiously, and engaging in regular exercise are all part of the softmaxxing approach.

Some less-proven methods are also popular, such as the bizarre trend of “mewing” – the act of holding the tongue against the roof of the mouth to create a prominent jawline and align teeth.
This popular technique has no scientific proof of being beneficial.

‘Hardmaxxing’ is where methods become physically demanding and permanent.

It aims to maximise appearance by any means, including Botox and implants, or even removing ribs for a sculpted waist.

The most infamous hardmaxxing method is “bonesmashing”.

This is the practice of repeatedly hitting the face with a blunt object to supposedly enlarge bones and redefine the skull structure to appear more masculine.

There is no scientific evidence to support this claim.

The term “starvemaxxing” has also been coined to describe extreme dieting so that cheekbones look hollow and the facial structure becomes sculpted.

Extreme dieting carries many serious health risks, including metabolic damage, nutrient deficiencies, fatigue and mental health issues.

A number of ‘Looksmaxxing’ forums seen by nine.com.au focus heavily on steroid use to build muscle size, and allow members to provide anecdotal and unsubstantiated medical advice.

Healthy Male is an Australian organisation that aims to provide accessible information on male health, particularly surrounding the physical side.

Health Content Manager at Healthy Male, Associate Professor Tim Moss, told nine.com.au he first discovered the term looksmaxxing while researching body image disorders in males and said steroids carry major health risks.

“If you take testosterone or synthetic versions of things that are like testosterone, then you shut down production of testosterone in the testes.

“When I first stumbled upon looksmaxxing, it was terrifying.

“The fact that young men will take such severe actions to change their appearance to try to appeal to others is scary to me.”

Researcher at the Movember Institute of Mental Health, Dr Krista Fisher, also warned of the lack of research surrounding the use of unapproved drugs.

“We’re seeing a massive rise in non-FDA and non-TGA-approved peptide use and surgical intervention, which have the potential to impact young men’s health for the entirety of their life,” she told nine.com.au.

Where did the trend start?

The trend has been around since the early 2010s, with forums across the internet for people looking to optimise their physical appearance.

Members in these communities send images of themselves for others to critique and rate, providing advice on how to improve their appearance.

A rating system known as the proportion, size, lineation (PSL) scale is used to determine the facial attractiveness and “sexual market value”.

The maximum rating a person can achieve is an eight, deeming them a “chad”, whilst a zero categorises them as “subhuman” and ultimately, undesirable.

“I can’t imagine why you would go there and open yourself up to that sort of stuff,” Moss said.

University of Sydney post-doctoral researcher and clinical psychologist, Scott Fatt, told nine.com.au that aspects of the trend draw close relation to body dysmorphic disorder.

“There’s a strong focus on paying really close attention to detail, and this idea of obsessing about numbers, and you should be checking your progress obsessively,” he said.

“That is a pretty key trait in body dysmorphic disorder.”

So-call black pill ideologies frequent these forums – the belief that romantic relationships are a rigged system based on a hierarchy that favours attractive men.

The online harms of looksmaxxing

While these forums are still active today, looksmaxxing influencers have gained notoriety on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, bringing in a new, younger audience.

The ‘looksmaxxer’ at the forefront of the trend, Clavicular, has more than 400,000 Instagram followers and told The New York Times he makes more than $100,000 a month streaming on Kick, helping push the trend further into the public eye.

“Clavicular (was) on the front of GQ magazine and walking in fashion shows, it’s definitely become more of a pop culture phenomenon rather than something that just exists in fringe spaces online,” Fisher added.

“Now what we’re seeing is this passive consumption of content.

“If you’re a young guy and sign up for a TikTok account, there has been research that has shown that within 30 seconds, you are going to be pushed content that is misogynistic, has drug, youth-related themes, or suicide and self-harm themes.”

Fisher says looksmaxxers who offer courses to impressionable teens are targeting a young and “insecure” audience.

“They’re not only financially taking advantage of these young people, but what it’s also creating is this significant amount of shame and secrecy.”

“Even if it does change one’s physical appearance, it doesn’t really fix or alleviate the root of the issue, like body image concerns, low self-esteem and self-worth,” she said.

For the first time since his recent DUI arrest, Tiger Woods has been seen in a newly released mugshot by the police, capturing the golf icon in a less-than-flattering moment.

The 50-year-old Woods found himself in legal trouble last Friday afternoon. Attempting to overtake a truck and trailer at a high speed on Jupiter Island, he inadvertently clipped the back of the vehicle, causing his SUV to tip over onto its side.

Once he managed to exit his vehicle through the passenger window, Woods declined to provide a urine sample to law enforcement officers. This refusal led to his arrest, facing charges of DUI, property damage, and noncompliance with a lawful test.

Subsequently, Woods was taken to the Martin County Public Safety Complex, where he was officially booked around 3 p.m., and the latest mugshot was taken to document the incident.

The police released the photograph to the public later that evening, just after 10 p.m. In the image, Woods is seen wearing a blue golf polo, with his eyes noticeably puffy and bloodshot, reflecting the severity of the situation.

The 15-time major champion remains behind bars in Florida, with Sheriff John Budensiek earlier confirming that he would be required to spend at least eight hours in prison before being allowed to leave on bail, likely some time after 11pm.

Speaking to reporters, the sheriff said of Woods’ jail time: ‘It doesn’t matter who you are, if you break the law we’re gonna follow the law. That’s a really easy path to take.

‘Now as far as being in the jail, we’re gonna make sure he’s safe. We’re not gonna put him in general population, he’s not gonna be with other inmates that can try and hurt him or try to capitalize on what he did.

‘He’ll pay the price, but he’s not gonna pay the price by getting punished in jail. He was not injured. He was lethargic on scene, but we believe that was because of what he was intoxicated on.’

At the scene of the accident, Woods passed a breathalyzer test after showing ‘triple zeros’, but then refused to give a urine sample twice, once on the roadside and then again at the jail.

‘He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself, so he was careful in what he said and didn’t say,’ Sheriff Budensiek explained. ‘When it came time again for the test, the urine test at the jail, he stopped that.

‘On scene, we had [Drug Recognition] experts evaluating him and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired with alcohol, but they believe it was some type of medication or drug. And again, at the jail he cooperated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine [test] he wanted no part in.

‘He has a right to refuse that test. There is a statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.’

Woods, who lives on Jupiter Island around two miles from where the incident occurred, was involved in a similar crash in 2021 in California, which shattered his right leg after he was trapped under the vehicle. He needed multiple surgeries in order to recover from his injuries.

The accident, the third crash he has been involved in in recent years, comes just days after Woods made his hugely anticipated return to golf at an event on Tuesday night, where girlfriend Vanessa Trump was watching him play.

Woods was previously pictured in a police mugshot in 2017 after being arrested for his first DUI, when police found him slumped in his car in Florida with five drugs in his system, including two painkillers.

He subsequently checked into rehab for painkiller addiction.

He was involved in another high-profile crash in 2009 when he hit a fire hydrant after being chased from his home by then-wife Elin Nordegren, which led him to admit to multiple affairs and drug use.

Woods and Nordegren eventually divorced in 2010 but have remained friends while co-parenting their children.

‘Having the relationship that I have now with her is fantastic,’ Woods told Time in 2015. ‘We both know that the most important things in our lives are our kids. I wish I would have known that back then.’

Their 17-year-old son, Charlie, is an aspiring golfer and the former couple often reunite to support him at events. They also have a daughter, Sam, who is 18.

Woods has been dating Vanessa Trump for over a year – their relationship was first reported by the Daily Mail in March 2025 after they started seeing each other around Thanksgiving 2024.

With only six slots left for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the tension is palpable as teams engage in the FIFA Play-Off Tournament and European play-offs, vying for a chance to compete on football’s grandest stage.

Earlier today, viewers in Australia witnessed the narrow elimination of European contenders Wales, the Republic of Ireland, and North Macedonia in penalty shoot-outs. The journey also ended for Ukraine, Slovakia, Romania, Northern Ireland, and Albania.

However, the quest for World Cup glory continues for former champions Italy, alongside nations like Iraq and Bolivia, who are eager to make a comeback.

Australia’s Socceroos have been placed in Group D alongside hosts the United States and Paraguay, with their final group opponent to be decided over the weekend.

Back in 2017, the FIFA Council made a pivotal decision to expand the World Cup roster from 32 to 48 teams, intensifying the competition and increasing the number of elimination rounds.

The 2026 World Cup, held across Canada, the US and Mexico in June and July, will be the first time the tournament is so large, increasing the chances for weaker teams.

As of today, 42 out of those 48 spots have been filled, leaving only six to compete for: two spots from the FIFA Play-Off Tournament, and four from the European play-offs.

Here is a guide to the remaining teams and how they could secure a spot.

FIFA Play-Off Tournament

The play-off tournament kicked off on the 26th of March local time, giving two almost-qualifiers one more shot at making it to the World Cup Tournament.

The six teams come from five of the six different confederations of FIFA, that compete against each other, as inter-confederation matches.

  • Asian Football Confederation (AFC): Iraq
  • Confederation of African Football (CAF): Congo DR
  • Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF): Jamaica and Suriname
  • Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL): Bolivia
  • Oceania Football Confederation (OFC): New Caledonia

These matches kicked off with Bolivia facing Suriname, seeing South America’s smallest country lose to Bolivia 2-1, while New Caledonia went down 0-1 to Jamaica.

With Iraq and Congo DR being the strongest teams in the FIFA Play-Offs, they will face the winners of these matches in the tournament’s final.

The winners of that final will be placed in Group K, joining Portugal, Uzbekistan and Colombia, and Group I – joining France, Senegal and Norway, named this year’s Group of Death with the highest FIFA ratings.

Play-offs for the sixth confederation, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) are underway in a separate series of matches called the European Play-Offs.

European Play-Offs

Sixteen teams have been in the fight for the four spots up for grabs for UEFA teams, with this morning’s losing teams knocked out.

While the top 12 teams in UEFA were given qualifying spots in the World Cup, 12 runner-up teams proceed to play-offs for another chance to qualify:

  • Albania
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Czechia
  • Denmark
  • Italy
  • Kosovo
  • Poland
  • Republic of Ireland
  • Slovakia
  • Türkiye
  • Ukraine
  • Wales

Another four teams that missed qualifying directly but performed well in the UEFA Nations League (UEFA’s own confederation tournament) also joined the European Play-Offs for one more chance:

  • North Macedonia
  • Northern Ireland
  • Romania
  • Sweden

The European Play-Off so far

The semi-finals wrapped up with the following winners securing a spot in the European Play-Off finals:

  • Türkiye, who beat Romania 1-0
  • Sweden, who beat Ukraine 3-1
  • Poland, who beat Albania 2-1
  • Czechia, who beat the Republic of Ireland 4-3 after penalties
  • Italy, who beat Northern Ireland, 2-0
  • Denmark, who beat North Macedonia, 4-0
  • Kosovo, who beat Slovakia, 4-3
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina, who beat Wales 4-2 on penalties after their game finished 1-1

The final matches to determine which teams will score a chance to play at the FIFA World Cup take place from the 31st of March, local time.

  • Bosnia and Herzegovina will face Italy
  • Sweden will face Poland
  • Czechia will face Denmark
  • Kosovo will face Türkiye

The winners of these matches will be placed in Groups A, B, D and F, with Group F closely being the second strongest group after the Group of Death, featuring Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.

Where to watch the matches and what to watch out for

Fans can watch all the play-off matches live on Stan Sport in Australia.

If Italy makes it through the European Play-Offs, it will qualify for the first time since 2014, despite four World Cup trophies under its belt.

Kosovo could also be one game away from its first World Cup. Facing Türkiye, the winner will join Group D with Australia’s Socceroos. Türkiye last qualified for the World Cup in 2002, making this game especially important for both teams.

Iraq’s game will have a familiar face for Socceroos fans in coach Graham Arnold, who took the Australian team to the Round of 16 in 2022, but quit three years later. If Iraq lose the play-off match, there may be one more chance at qualifying for the World Cup if Iran pulls out of the tournament, placing it in Group G.

The inaugural Round of 32: What’s next?

After those 48 teams (divided into 12 groups with 4 teams each) are confirmed, the FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off on 11 June local time, with all 104 games streaming on SBS, SBS Viceland and SBS On Demand.

Teams will play three games competing against their groups, and the top two teams from each group (a total of 24) will make it to the Round of 32, leaving eight open spots.

Third place teams will be then ranked by points, and the top eight will complete the 32 to begin the round on the 28 June.

The winners will then proceed to the Round of 16, kicking off on 4 July.
