Commissioner Nancy Andrade Steps Down from Role in Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Administration

0

In a significant shift within Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration, a key official is stepping down. Nancy Andrade, who has held the position of Chicago’s Human Relations Commissioner since 2021, is resigning from her role.

Andrade’s decision to leave comes as her son, who is classified as a diverse learner, is preparing to transition from elementary to high school. This personal milestone has prompted her to make this change, as detailed in her resignation letter.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

In a statement provided to ABC7, Andrade expressed her admiration for the team at the Chicago Commission on Human Relations (CCHR), stating, “I applaud the phenomenal CCHR team for their tireless work. CCHR is a beacon of light that gives hope to all Chicagoans who have experienced the darkness of hate. It offers justice to all who have experienced the humiliation and trauma of discrimination.”

As a licensed attorney, Andrade emphasized her commitment to upholding the values and ethics that guided her tenure. “My resignation is in service of that oath,” she noted, expressing her hope that the CCHR will continue to address antisemitism and all forms of discrimination across Chicago.

Reacting to Andrade’s departure, Alderman Debra Silverstein of Chicago’s 50th Ward remarked, “Her resignation from the Chicago Commission on Human Relations is a terrible blow at a time when anti-Jewish hate is on the rise. The Jewish community deserves partners in City Hall who will listen, collaborate, and act with urgency in the face of rising hate.”

ABC7 reached out to the mayor’s office for a response to Silverstein’s claims that Andrade’s resignation creates a void for the city’s Jewish community, but did not immediately hear back.

This comes after Johnson fired his deputy for public safety last week.

Tragic Incident: 5-Year-Old Witnesses Pregnant Mother Fatally Shot by Father in Shocking Garage Attack

In a tragic incident at a California home, a 5-year-old boy witnessed the horrific moment his pregnant mother was shot by her ex-boyfriend—his father—while he was watching “A Minecraft Movie.” The assailant, having slipped under a partly open garage door, attacked the child’s mother. Amid the chaos, the boy asked the woman’s current boyfriend, who was present during the shooting, “Is my mom okay?”

According to court testimony from the preliminary hearing, the boyfriend replied, “I need you to come in here with me,” as reported by the East Bay Times. This testimony was part of the proceedings against Vaughn Boatner, the ex-boyfriend, and father of the child.

This week, 36-year-old Boatner received a 35-year prison sentence after entering a no contest plea to charges of voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder. This plea was part of a deal with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, in which more severe charges of murder and child abuse were dropped.

Following the shooting, Boatner fled to Seattle, Washington, where he was eventually apprehended in May 2023, according to a police press release. The violent episode occurred on May 11, 2023, at Aldridge’s home in Hayward, California, just after she discovered she was expecting a child with her boyfriend.

During the attack, Aldridge suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while her boyfriend sustained serious injuries to his face, losing several teeth and part of his jaw. Fortunately, Aldridge’s young son, who was also in the house, was found unharmed by the officers who responded to the scene, as noted in the police statement.

“During the investigation it was … learned that the 5-year-old boy at the scene was Aldridge’s and Boatner’s child,” the release explains. “It is believed that Aldridge and the second victim were in a dating relationship and lived together during the incident.”

Aldridge’s boyfriend testified at Boatner’s 2023 preliminary hearing that Boatner snuck into the couple’s home and attacked Aldridge in their garage while her son was watching the “Minecraft” movie in an adjacent room, East Bay Times reports.

Aldridge and the boyfriend had gotten into an argument on May 8 after he failed to hold a door open for her at a restaurant, just two days after Aldridge found out she was pregnant. The 30-year-old told her boyfriend that she wanted to take some time to herself. Boatner found out about it and confronted Aldridge at a local park after asking her to meet.

Prosecutors said Boatner was concerned about his son’s safety and was arguing with Aldridge at the park. She had the boy with her and “fishtailed” out of the parking lot without placing him in a car seat, which further worried Boatner, according to his aunt, who was with him at the time.

That same day, May 11, Boatner drove to the couple’s home with his aunt and entered the garage to kill Aldridge and shoot her boyfriend. The aunt allegedly stayed outside.

After hearing Aldridge being shot, the boyfriend locked her son in a closet. “I took him in the room so I can make sure he was safe,” the boyfriend testified, according to East Bay Times.

“The first thing he asked me about was his mom,” the boyfriend recounted.

Boatner was sentenced on March 19 and is awaiting transfer to a state prison.

“This is a senseless thing that happened,” Aldridge’s uncle, Lorenzo Smith, told local Fox affiliate KTVU in May 2023 after the shooting.

“We’re going to have a sit down with him, explain the circumstances and provide some counseling,” Smith said about Aldridge’s son. “It’s going to be a long, hard road for us, naturally.”

Category 5 Threat: Cyclone Narelle Poised to Intensify and Impact New State

0
Tropical Cyclone Narelle could re-intensify into a category five storm as it becomes the first cyclone in over 20 years to hit three states.
The storm will gain intensity as it approaches the northern tip of the state, reaching category four late tomorrow or early on Friday, modelling from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) suggests.
Cyclone Narelle has already passed over Queensland and the Northern Territory, and has one more state in her sights.

Weatherzone’s Ben Domensino warned that the storm might escalate to category 5 status as it shifts northward of Western Australia.

He further explained that by Friday, the storm could veer southwards, potentially making landfall between Exmouth and Yanchep, particularly around Shark Bay, while still maintaining its tropical cyclone classification.

Angus Hines, a senior meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, indicated that similar weather patterns are expected for areas projected to be impacted by the cyclone in the upcoming days.

“Wind gusts exceeding 140 kilometers per hour are possible later this week,” he noted.

Additionally, there is an anticipation of extensive heavy rainfall stretching from Port Hedland and Exmouth down to Bunbury and Albany.

Hines said areas around Perth could expect between 50-100mm of rain.
Cyclomne Narelle initially hit Far North Queensland, cuasing widespread flooding.

Domensino said if this happens, it means the cyclone would be a historic one.

“Narelle will become the first tropical cyclone since Ingrid in 2005 to make landfall in three Australian states as a tropical cyclone,” he said.

Cyclone Narelle caused widespread damage to the top end of Australia last week, hitting communities like Cape Yorke in the far north of Queensland particularly hard.

It caused widespread floods across the state, but no deaths or serious injuries were reported.

Winds as high as 185km/h were recorded as it moved west across the top of Australia.

Pentagon Mobilizes 2,000 Troops from 82nd Airborne for Strategic Middle East Deployment

WASHINGTON D.C. (The Hill) – The Pentagon is poised to send approximately 2,000 troops from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East. This strategic move aims to enhance the U.S. military’s footprint in the area, offering President Trump additional military options. A source privy to internal discussions, who requested anonymity to discuss sensitive military plans, shared this information with The Hill on Tuesday.

The troop count remains fluid as the directive was issued within the last day, the source emphasized. It appears unlikely that the entire brigade will be deployed to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) region.

Both the Army and the Pentagon have directed inquiries to the White House for further comment.

This troop movement aligns with the deployment of thousands of Marines to the Centcom area, where the U.S. military already maintains a presence of approximately 50,000 service members. Their mission is to support Operation Epic Fury, which is now entering its fourth week.

The 82nd Airborne Division is renowned for its rapid response capabilities, able to mobilize within 18 hours of an alert. This enables them to execute “forcible entry parachute assaults” and secure pivotal objectives, facilitating subsequent military operations that align with U.S. national interests.

The 82nd Airborne Division is based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

The New York Times first reported on the Pentagon considering deployment of a combat brigade from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.

For now, the U.S. military has relied on bombers, fighter planes, drones and missiles to hit more than 9,000 targets inside Iran, which included ballistic missile sites, drone manufacturing sites, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps headquarters and other outposts, according to Centcom. The military has also gone after Iran’s navy, damaging or destroying more than 140 Iranian vessels.

Since the start of the war with Iran, 290 U.S. service members have been wounded, a Centcom spokesperson, Navy Capt. Tim Hawkins, said in a statement to The Hill on Tuesday.

The vast majority of the injuries were “minor” and over 255 troops have already returned to duty, Hawkins said.

“As the second public high school for African Americans in Augusta, Georgia, following Laney, it holds significant historical value,” remarked T.C. Edwards of the naming committee. “We felt it was crucial to maintain the name T.W. Josey High School to ensure its historical significance endures at its current site.”

In addition to retaining the name, the new T.W. Josey High School College and Career Academy will continue to use the existing mascot and school colors. Meanwhile, Barton Chapel Elementary and Glenn Hills Elementary will merge to form the newly named “Chapel Hills Elementary.”

This modernized elementary school will be constructed on the grounds where Barton Chapel Elementary currently stands.

Illini’s Green Sees Bright Future for Program: Optimism Fuels Growth and Success

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – The Illinois women’s basketball team concluded its season on Monday with a tough defeat at the hands of second-seeded Vanderbilt. Despite the loss, the Illini wrapped up an impressive season with a 22-12 record, marking consecutive NCAA Tournament victories for the first time since the late ’90s.

While the season’s end was undoubtedly disheartening, head coach Shauna Green urged her team to focus on the broader successes achieved. During her four-year tenure, Illinois has made the NCAA Tournament three times, a testament to the program’s growth, even after bidding farewell to a remarkable senior class in 2025.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, Green expressed her excitement about the future. “I’ve never been more thrilled at this moment to look forward to next year,” Green said, highlighting the youth and experience gained by her squad. “Listening to our team in that locker room, hearing the tears and their conversations, it makes me even more optimistic. They’re ready, committed, and eager to improve.”

The Illini’s lineup for the 2025-26 season was notably youthful, featuring two freshmen, four sophomores, and two juniors as key players. This blend of young talent and developing experience promises a bright future for Illinois women’s basketball.

Illinois’ main rotation in the 2025-26 consisted of two freshmen, four sophomores and two juniors.

The Illini were the youngest team, by average roster age, in the 2026 NCAA women’s basketball tournament.

Open Heaven 25 March 2026 – Take Care Of Your Wife

Open Heaven 25 March 2026 Wednesday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Take Care Of Your Wife

Open Heaven 25 March 2026 TOPIC – Take Care Of Your Wife

MEMORISE: Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. – Colossians 3:19 (KJV)

READ: Ephesians 5:25-29 (KJV)

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 13-14

Open Heaven 25 March 2026 MESSAGE

One of the most important tasks for a husband is to take care of his wife because God has given her to him to nurture and protect her. Today’s Bible reading encourages husbands to love their wives just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. One of the ways a husband can show his wife that he loves her is by showering her with his attention and affection. If a husband loves his wife, he will not starve her sexually or neglect her needs.

In today’s memory verse, the Bible urges husbands to love their wives and not be bitter against them. This means that some situations will arise that will tempt husbands to become bitter against their wives. However, they must not fall for such temptations.

After some men have gotten married, they stop being intentional about their relationships with their wives. One of the ways a husband can take care of his wife is to keep the romance alive in their relationship. He should always tell her that he loves her, buy her gifts regularly, shower her with compliments privately and publicly, and thank her for the things she does for him. Isaac carried the same blessing as his father, Abraham, and was also a successful businessman. Yet, in Genesis 26:8, we read about him being romantic with his wife:

…Abimelech, king of the Philistines, looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

It is important for husbands to know that they must treat their wives well. If a husband is not treating his wife well, his prayers can become hindered. (1 Peter 3:7) says, “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” If a husband takes care of his wife and makes her happy, it will also do him good. When a wife is happy with her husband, she will support him, and this can push him to achieve his goals faster. However, when the one who should be supporting her husband is not happy with him because he is neglecting or hurting her, his prayers will be hindered. A wise husband takes good care of his wife so he can obtain favour from God and live a blessed and peaceful life.
