Trump Issues Stark Warning on Iran’s Future Without Immediate Change

0

On Tuesday, President Trump delivered a stark warning to Iran, laced with conflicting tones, as he approached an 8 p.m. EDT deadline he set. He cautioned that “a whole civilization will die tonight” unless there is “something revolutionary wonderful.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?”

Trump maintains that regime change has occurred in Iran, despite the fact that the nation’s leadership has chosen the son of the late supreme leader, who perished on the war’s first day, as their new leader.

Meanwhile, other Iranian officials, including the foreign minister and the speaker of Parliament, remain defiant in the face of U.S.-Israeli military actions. They’ve even called on citizens to form human chains around power plants, which are under threat from Trump’s actions.

Despite the grave warning, Trump’s message to Iran carried contrasting notes. While he threatened the entire civilization, he also extended his good wishes to the Iranian populace, which numbers 93 million.

“We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end,” he continued. “God Bless the Great People of Iran!”

The Pentagon on Tuesday also began striking military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island ahead of Trump’s deadline.

The U.S. and Iran received a ceasefire proposal from Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey that included a 45-day ceasefire and the Strait of Hormuz opening. Trump told reporters earlier Monday that Iran made a “significant” offer, but it wasn’t “good enough.”

As of Tuesday morning, oil trading was at $113.40 per barrel, which is $2.15 above Monday morning’s level.

While Trump has spent the last two days threatening large-scale strikes against Iran, other U.S. officials have struck a more conciliatory tone.

Vice President Vance, who is in Hungary to boost President Viktor Orbán’s reelection bid, leaned more heavily on negotiations the administration insists are taking place.

“We’re going to find out but there’s going to be a lot of negotiation between now and then,” the vice president said.

Man Fatally Injured Following Request for House Guests to Vacate, District Attorney Reports

In a tragic turn of events in Pennsylvania, a man and woman overstayed their welcome at an elderly homeowner’s residence, ultimately leading to a fatal altercation when he insisted they vacate, according to authorities.

Alysha Riggans, 30, and Terry Newland, 58, now face serious charges, including criminal homicide, evidence tampering, and corpse abuse, based on court documents accessed by Law&Crime. Additionally, Riggans is accused of theft and misusing an access device for financial gain.

The suspects are alleged to have murdered 71-year-old Ralph Brown, as reported by the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office in an announcement made on Monday.

Riggans and Newland had been residing in Brown’s Uniontown, Pennsylvania home, located in a small city just south of Pittsburgh. Authorities describe them as refusing to leave despite Brown’s repeated requests over several months, likening their presence to that of squatters.

“They were going to basically take a room for a short amount of time, ended up changing their address to a point where he couldn’t really get them out,” Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele said, according to regional NBC affiliate WPXI.

Last week, a financial dispute between the pair and Brown escalated, the DA’s office reported. Prosecutors allege that Riggans and Newland devised a scheme to eliminate the homeowner and rob him of his money.

Riggans reportedly said that on April 1, when Brown returned to the Crow Avenue home, she saw Newland stab him in the neck with a knife and then beat the victim in the head with a table. She further claimed that she and Newland then tied a bag around Brown’s head, wrapped his feet with cords, and stored the body in the home’s basement for two days.

Early Saturday morning, the two defendants allegedly dropped Brown’s body — wrapped in a blanket — “along an active railway near Kerr Street,” the DA’s office said. The victim’s remains were discovered on Sunday.

Authorities identified the body as Brown’s and determined that Riggans and Newland had stolen money from his bank accounts, area CBS affiliate KDKA reported. Investigators went to his home and “met with our two defendants,” Aubele said. “And as soon as we walked into the house, we noticed items of forensic value, including potential blood.”

Riggans and Newland were arrested and had their preliminary arraignment in court on Monday. They are expected to return to court on April 20.

They have been denied bail.

Kanye West Denied Entry to UK, Unable to Headline Music Festival

0
The rapper formerly known as Kanye West has been barred from entering the UK, where he was scheduled to perform at the Wireless Festival in July.

The move followed strong criticism from government officials regarding Ye’s history of making antisemitic comments.

Festival organizers have confirmed that Ye is banned, leading to the cancellation of the entire three-day event.

According to the BBC, citing the Home Office, Ye’s travel authorization was denied on the grounds that his presence in the UK would not be “conducive to the public good.”

Ye had been scheduled to perform from July 10-12 at an open-air festival in London’s Finsbury Park, drawing an audience of approximately 150,000 attendees.

Organizers faced increasing pressure from sponsors and politicians to cancel the rapper’s performances due to his controversial antisemitic remarks and expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Last year, he released a song called Heil Hitler and advertised a swastika T-shirt for sale on his website.

The 48-year-old apologised in January with a letter, published as a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal.

He said his bipolar disorder led him to fall into “a four-month long, manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behaviour that destroyed my life”.

Wireless sponsors Pepsi, Rockstar Energy and Diageo have pulled out of the festival since Ye was announced as the headliner, and Starmer called the booking “deeply concerning”.

In a statement Tuesday, Ye, who changed his name in 2021, said he “would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK in person”, to listen.

“I know words aren’t enough — I’ll have to show change through my actions,” he said. “If you’re open, I’m here.”

Phil Rosenberg, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, said the group would be willing to meet with the musician if he pulled out of the festival.

“The Jewish community will want to see a genuine remorse and change before believing that the appropriate place to test this sincerity is on the main stage at the Wireless Festival,” Rosenberg said.

Organiser Festival Republic stood by Ye. In a statement issued on Monday, managing director Melvin Benn urged people to offer the performer “forgiveness and hope.”

“We are not giving him a platform to extol opinion of whatever nature, only to perform the songs that are currently played on the radio stations in our country and the streaming platforms in our country and listened to and enjoyed by millions,” the statement said.

UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting dismissed the organisers’ statement as “absurd” and said Ye should “absolutely not” perform at Wireless.

A representative for Ye didn’t reply to a request for comment.

Top 5 Chain Restaurant Appetizers to Avoid for a Healthier Diet

0

Uncover the hidden health pitfalls lurking in some of the most popular chain restaurant appetizers, notorious for their high levels of fat and sodium.

While dining out at your favorite chain restaurants, it’s easy to overlook how unhealthy some of these seemingly harmless appetizers can be. These starters, not even the main courses, can pack in days’ worth of calories, fat, and sodium. It’s not about denying yourself the occasional indulgence; rather, it’s about being informed so you can choose to enjoy these dishes in moderation or share them with others. Here are five of the most calorific and sodium-laden appetizers currently on offer at chain restaurants.

Appearances can be deceiving, especially with vegetable-based dishes. Take the Bloomin’ Onion from Outback Steakhouse, for example. While undeniably tasty, this dish carries a hefty nutritional punch with approximately 1,950 calories, 155 grams of fat, a staggering 56 grams of saturated fat, and nearly 4,000 milligrams of sodium. It might be wise to consider splitting this deep-fried appetizer among friends or skipping it entirely.

The Bloomin’ Onion

Outback Steakhouse

The Cheesecake Factory’s Fried Macaroni and Cheese is another dish that might surprise you with its nutritional content. This indulgent appetizer contains about 1,310 calories, 96 grams of fat, 47 grams of saturated fat, and close to 2,140 milligrams of sodium. These deep-fried, cheesy carbohydrate bombs are packed with calories and sodium, making it essential to think twice before ordering.

Fried Macaroni and Cheese

The Cheesecake Factory

With a shockingly high fat content, The Cheesecake Factory’s Fried Macaroni and Cheese is about 1,310 calories, 96g of fat, 47g of saturated fat, and almost 2,140mg of sodium. These deep fried, cheesy balls full of carbs are heavy on the calories, sodium, and frankly everything, so be aware before ordering.

Neighborhood Nachos with Beef

Applebee’s

Applebee’s Neighborhood Nachos with Beef is another that will set you back. This appetizer has about 2,000 calories, 127g of fat, 57g of saturated fat, and around 5,000mg of sodium. None of it’s healthy, but that fat content and level of sodium are shockingly high, and certainly something to be aware of when ordering.

Texas Cheese Fries

Chili’s

Chili’s Large Texas Cheese Fries might be tasty, but you’ll be looking at about 1,800 calories, 122g of fat, 51g of saturated fat, and around 5,000mg of sodium. Again, similar to the nachos from Applebee’s, the fat content and level of sodium is astronomical for one day, let alone one meal.

The Cactus Blossom

Texas Roadhouse

As a long time fan of Texas Roadhouse, I can confidently say their food is delicious. While many items taste good, an appetizer with this amount of calories, fat, and sodium is certainly something to be well aware of before ordering. The Cactus Blossom (essentially their version of a blooming onion) will set you back about 2,250 calories, 135g of fat, 26g of saturated fat, and around 5,000mg of sodium.

US Military Targets Iran’s Key Energy Hub on Kharg Island Ahead of Trump’s Peace Deal Deadline: Live Coverage

US stocks tumble following Trump’s renewed threat against Iran

Wall Street saw a downturn in early trading on Tuesday as oil prices climbed, following President Donald Trump’s renewed threats to launch extensive bombings on Iran unless it complies with U.S. demands in the ongoing conflict.

In a provocative social media post, Trump stated, “A whole civilization will die tonight,” reinforcing his previous commitment to destroy key civilian infrastructure, such as bridges and power plants, should Iran fail to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for oil-tanker passage.

Anticipation of a ceasefire had buoyed stocks on Monday, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average experienced a 0.7 percent decline early Tuesday, falling to 46,368.33.

Within the first ten minutes of trading, the S&P 500 saw a 0.5 percent drop to 6,576.59, and the Nasdaq Composite Index, known for its technology stocks, decreased by 0.6 percent to 21,859.32.

According to David Waddell, the chief investment strategist at Waddell & Associates, the markets are interpreting Trump’s aggressive language as a strategic move in negotiations.

‘The markets are taking it in stride because they’ve learned not to over-index Trump’s threats, recognising it’s probably more negotiation than reality,’ Waddell said.

Explore Noel Edmonds’ Unique Holistic Retreat in New Zealand: A Rival to Charlotte Church’s Wellness Ventures

Noel Edmonds seems to be following in the footsteps of Charlotte Church when it comes to embracing a holistic lifestyle, now that he has settled into a lavish estate in New Zealand.

The 77-year-old TV presenter, known for his quirky fashion sense, along with his wife, Liz, 56, made the move to New Zealand in 2019. Their home is an impressive 800-acre estate, which features an intriguing “energy bowl” that collects “positive water” whenever it rains.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Church and her husband, Jonathan Powell, purchased Rhydoldog House, a £1.5 million mansion in Wales, in 2021. They have since transformed it into a serene green retreat, equipped with eight different rooms and capable of hosting up to 16 guests at once.

Opening its doors in 2023, the 39-year-old singer has described the retreat as a place designed to help guests “reconnect with themselves and the natural world.”

The expansive 47-acre property is outfitted with features such as a helicopter landing pad, a 200-year-old barn, a hot tub, a plunge pool, and an outdoor cinema, offering a blend of tranquility and modern luxury.

The retreat also contains a Healing Room where guests can partake in movement, yoga, sound healing, and group work, as well as many gardens, a Potting Shed, Japanese Tea House and a Waterfall Shower.

Cycling, archery, foraging, hiking and strength and conditioning lessons are also available as well as a wide range of alternative spiritual awakenings throughout the year, including ‘witchcraft’ sessions that are personally managed by the Welsh star.

But Noel appears to be giving Charlotte a run for her money these days, with River Haven estate, which features a restaurant, a vineyard, a pub and a wellness centre.

The two stars have both embraced holism and wellness, with the Deal Or No Deal star recently showing fans a glimpse of his energy garden, a round patch of ground surrounded by rocks with an ‘energy bowl’ in the centre.

After a day of pouring rain, he delightedly revealed how the bowl had filled up with rainwater, exclaiming: ‘My energy bowl has flooded! Oh my word!

‘It’s bubbling away here. That is a lot of positive water! Wow, incredible. Absolutely amazing.’

Last year, Noel claimed that the secret to his impressive health regime was what he called ‘Tranquil Power’.

The TV star sent fans into a frenzy after showcasing his surprisingly ripped physique in a pair of swimming trunks after being named Torso Of The Week by Heat magazine.

And taking to Instagram, he  joked with followers: ‘So many of you have asked how do I get the body of a 76 year old?

He then teased: ‘If that fails bribe the lighting guy!’ before falling into his outdoor pool.

Speaking to The Sun, Noel explained: ‘The exercise I do, I call tranquil power. It’s about quiet and slow. You hold it [the weight], you feel the muscle burn and then let go.’

Later discussing his morning routine he added: ‘I normally have a warm shower in the morning and wash it off with a cold shower.

‘And then a sauna, infra red. It’s proven science and very good for you.’

In the past Noel has revealed he also practises meditation, exercising slowly in darkness while listening to electronic pulses for an hour a week.

He also explained he lies on a £2,300 electro-magnetic mat for 15 minutes a day, which he claims helped cure his cancer.

In terms of diet, Noel is believed to avoid red meat and maintains an alkaline diet which aims to balance the pH of your body.

He said that four of six wishes he wrote down and offered to the cosmos then came true, including his wish to front another hit show – which was Deal Or No Deal.

‘You’ll think I’ve gone away with the fairies, but its fantastic!’ he said. He wrote a book, Positively Happy: Cosmic Ways To Change Your Life, in 2006.

He explained: ‘To me cosmic order is all about being a positive person who takes charge of your own life.

‘You have to make conscious decisions to go out and make things happen for you.

‘It’s not hocus-pocus New Age stuff. You don’t have to wear beads and smoke exotic substances to be able to get into it.’

After quitting the UK in 2019, the couple first launched a network of radio stations near Auckland before moving to Ngatimoti three years later.

But in 2023, the £15m estate sparked a furious row with residents who accused him of ‘colonising’ their idyllic village.

And after leaving the UK behind, last year Noel purchased a home in the Isle of Man, with plans to spend time both there and in New Zealand.

He told Manx Radio in August: ‘I came for the very first time three years ago, and when you consider I lived in the UK all my life and I knew where it was geographically, I don’t know why I didn’t come before.

‘I have purchased a property on the island, and I intend to spend some of the year here, but my principal home is New Zealand.’

‘What’s drawn me to the Smile of Man… you’re bloody proud of the island, you’re proud of the community, and across the water there [in the UK], you don’t get that anymore,’ he added.

Boston’s Innovative ‘Send a Social Worker’ Initiative Faces Real-World Challenges: Immediate Impacts and Lessons Learned

0

In a harrowing incident on Saturday, a mental health crisis call in Boston took a violent turn when a man wielding a sword attacked a clinician and stabbed a police officer. This occurred during a co-response call, part of Boston’s initiative to incorporate mental health professionals into emergency situations traditionally managed by police. Responders spent nearly 40 minutes attempting to de-escalate the situation before the confrontation intensified.

Boston employs a co-response model that teams police officers with mental health clinicians for specific 911 calls, diverting some cases from a purely police response. This approach was in effect when officers were dispatched to Hemenway Street around 10:45 a.m. The call was initiated by a man claiming that four armed individuals were threatening him outside his apartment, urgently requesting assistance.

Upon arrival, officers found no evidence of individuals outside the apartment. They engaged in conversation with the caller through his closed door, striving to evaluate the situation inside and ascertain if there was any imminent danger to others in the vicinity. As tensions rose, emergency medical services and a clinician were brought in, aligning with the city’s structured response to such crises.

For approximately 35 to 45 minutes, the EMS team and clinician communicated with the man, recognizing signs of an acute mental health crisis. Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox explained that the responders were focused on maintaining engagement with the individual, encouraging him to seek the necessary help.

Then, the door opened.

Then the door opened.

“As they asked the individual to begin the process of maybe coming up and getting the attention they needed, the individual immediately opened the door and struck both the clinician and an officer who was outside the door,” Cox said. “He was armed with some type of sword, striking… the officer in the arm, knocking at least the EMS clinician to the ground.”

Police said the man stabbed an officer in the arm and knocked the clinician to the ground before other officers used a Taser and a firearm to stop him as the confrontation unfolded just outside the apartment doorway. EMS treated the suspect at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The officer received a tourniquet at the scene before being transported to the hospital. Several officers and two EMS clinicians were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries following the encounter inside the apartment, according to Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden, who confirmed multiple responders were hurt during the incident.

Boston EMS addressed the attack directly.

“Members of Boston EMS show up to save lives — not to be assaulted. No one should face violence for simply doing their job.”

Boston officials have promoted the co-response model as a way to route people in crisis toward treatment instead of arrest or emergency room intake, particularly in situations initially assessed as nonviolent or behavioral health-related calls, describing it as a partnership between police and mental health workers on calls involving public safety risk and designed to connect individuals with care instead of the criminal justice system.

The approach grew out of policy changes pushed in 2020, when Boston leaders, including then-City Councilor Michelle Wu, backed efforts to divert certain calls away from police and reduce the department’s budget following the George Floyd protests.

Boston built this model to send clinicians into calls like this instead of relying on police. After roughly 40 minutes of trying to defuse the situation, the clinician sent in to handle the call took the first hit when the door opened.

The Challenges of Singing About Faith in Today’s World

Renowned for her triumph on American Idol and her current role as a mentor, Carrie Underwood has never shied away from expressing how pivotal faith is in her life. Raised in Oklahoma, she was a regular at church, and her Christian beliefs have remained a steadfast part of her identity, even as she acknowledges the challenge of prioritizing them within the entertainment sphere. Recently, she shared insights on why singing about faith has grown increasingly significant for her.

Carrie Underwood performed ‘How Great Thou Art’ on ‘American Idol’s ‘Songs of Faith’ night

The 2026 “Songs of Faith” night on American Idol made a memorable impression by emphasizing spirituality during its debut live show of the 24th season. Coinciding with the Easter period, the episode saw the Top 14 contestants performing tracks infused with faith and gospel influences. Judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie embraced the theme wholeheartedly, kicking off the show with a collaborative rendition of “Jesus Is Love.” To conclude the evening, Underwood delivered a stirring performance of “How Great Thou Art.”

In a conversation with The Christian Post following the “Songs of Faith” night, Underwood emphasized that achieving success in the entertainment industry doesn’t require compromising one’s beliefs.

“You must remain steadfast in your faith and remember who brought you to this point, because it wasn’t solely your doing,” she elaborated.

Underwood expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to openly celebrate and share worship with a global audience during the special episode. “What’s not to love about this night?” she remarked. “I deeply admire ABC and American Idol for boldly embracing this theme, as it’s no small feat. The entertainment world, by and large, presents its challenges.”

Underwood noted that she loved how everyone could “be joyful” and embrace worship in front of the world with the special episode. “I mean, what’s not to love [about this night]?” she continued. “I respect ABC and American Idol so much for being bold in this theme, because it’s not easy. I feel like in the world of entertainment in general … it’s not easy.”

Underwood added that “Songs of Faith” didn’t necessarily mean songs about Jesus. “It’s kind of like you could take that and sing something inspirational that means something to you,” she explained.

The country star previously opened up about the difficulties of bringing religion into the entertainment industry

Carrie Underwood has touched on the difficulties of bringing faith and worship into the entertainment industry in the past. In April 2025, American Idol contestants Breanna Nix and Rylie O’Neill performed a cover of Christian worship singer Brandon Lake’s song “Gratitude.” The performance moved Underwood, causing her to hold back tears.

“I know how difficult it is to come into the entertainment industry and bring your faith with you,” she explained, according to USA Today. “It is a brave thing to do because there are a lot of outside forces that are going to tell you not to do that. I want to tell you that I’m proud of you guys.”

For Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher, prayer is “such a normal part” of their home life. They explained more about their faith and relationship with Jesus in their four-part digital series, Mike and Carrie: God & Country, according to Movieguide.

“We have an open dialogue about God,” Underwood explained, noting that their kids, Isaiah and Jacob, also embrace it.

“He [Isaiah] just says things like, ‘Did you know I have to love God even more than you, Mommy? I love God so much,’” she explained.

Fisher noted that when someone previously asked him what his greatest fear was, it was having children who didn’t have a “real relationship” with Jesus. “I want my sons to see me and be like, ‘This is real, this isn’t just what he’s saying … this is not an informed faith, this is like a transformed faith, and my dad is different.’”

Usha Vance Radiates Joy with Baby Bump in Hungary: A Glimpse into Family Life with JD

Second Lady Usha Vance was seen gently holding her baby bump as she and her husband, Vice President JD Vance, touched down in Budapest on Tuesday. With her due date set for July, the couple is eagerly anticipating their new arrival.

Usha, 40, exuded maternal warmth as she accompanied Vice President Vance on a diplomatic visit to meet with Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban.

According to reports from Reuters, the Vice President’s visit aims to bolster Prime Minister Orban’s campaign ahead of Sunday’s crucial election, in which polls suggest he might face defeat.

As Usha disembarked from Air Force Two, she looked stunning in a coordinated lilac-purple outfit, affectionately cradling her bump with JD by her side.

Her ensemble featured a chic purple satin midi skirt, believed to be a Veronica Beard design, with an original price tag of $448.

She paired the gorgeous skirt with a lilac-colored, short-sleeved cashmere sweater, wrapping the look together with black heels on her feet and a simple diamond bracelet around her wrist.

Once the couple arrived on the ground, they were welcomed by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, and Usha was given a bouquet of pink flowers.

The couple, who met at Yale Law School and have been married since 2014, announced in January that they are expecting a baby boy this summer.

They are already parents to sons, Ewan, eight, and Vivek, five, and a daughter, four-year-old Mirabel.

Weeks after their announcement, JD opened up about their baby name plans exclusively with the Daily Mail.

‘We’ve talked about a few names,’ the Vice President said at the time.

‘We’re working on it, but with all three of our kids, we actually didn’t settle on their names until after they were born, which is, I think, pretty unusual.’

‘Most people choose a name. Well, before the kid is born,’ Vance continued. ‘I think Usha and I have never just found a name where it’s like, “Alright, this is what we want to name our kid.”

‘And so we always wait to meet them and settle on the names from there.’

Usha’s pregnancy announcement came after a handful of others in the MAGA world announced their own pregnancies – such as Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and United States Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller’s wife, Katie Miller.

It has led many Trump fans to declare a ‘MAGA baby boom.’

Usha previously sat down with Meghan McCain for an extensive interview, where she spoke about suffering from anemia during her previous pregnancies.

Her trip to Hungary comes after she attended the White House Easter Egg Roll on Tuesday morning and read a book to kids in the crowd.

The Second Lady recently announced a new podcast advocating for childhood literacy.

‘Storytime With the Second Lady’ will feature prominent figures – like NASCAR legend Danica Patrick – alongside Usha as they read short stories and discuss their central themes in 15-minute episodes meant for young children.

She’s said the decline in literacy rates among children is ‘worrisome,’ adding that she wanted to do something to correct course.

‘If I was going to do anything, this would be the thing to focus on at this moment in time,’ she said.

It is not the first time the Second Lady has advocated for reading.

Usha promoted a program last year called the ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ where children were asked to read 12 books over the school break. Those who completed the challenge would receive a small prize and certificate, according to the competition rules.

Breaking News: Armed Attack Outside Israeli Consulate in Istanbul Labeled as Terrorism by Turkish Authorities

A shootout unfolded outside the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, resulting in the death of one assailant, injuries to two others, and minor injuries to two police officers.

According to Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci on X, the armed attackers were linked to a group known for “exploiting religion.”

In a post translated by X, Minister Ciftci stated, “The identities of the terrorists have been revealed. It is confirmed that the individuals, who traveled to Istanbul from Izmit in a rental car, are connected to a group that exploits religion. One of the two attackers, who are brothers, has a criminal record related to drugs.”

U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, denounced the attack and commended Turkish law enforcement for their response.

“The United States condemns in the strongest terms today’s attack on the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul,” Barrack wrote on X. “Attacks on diplomatic missions are attacks on the international order — and an assault on the principles that bind nations together. We commend Türkiye and Turkish security forces for their swift and decisive response.”

Police officers pulled out guns and took cover as shots rang out for at least 10 minutes near a permanent security checkpoint near the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul. One person was seen covered in blood amid the glass towers in the heart of the city’s main financial district.

Footage obtained by Reuters showed an apparent attacker, in a dark top and carrying a backpack, moving among parked white police and security buses and firing with an automatic rifle and a handgun.

Two bodies lay on nearby streets and parking areas, near grassy areas.

Two police officers were lightly wounded in the attack, Istanbul Governor Davut Gul told reporters at the scene.

He said there had been no Israeli diplomatic staff at the consulate for 2-1/2 years, since the Hamas-Israel war began in 2023, leading to a deep chill in Turkish-Israeli diplomatic ties.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed there were no staff at the consulate at the time of the shootings.

The incident occurred next to a major motorway just after midday, immediately outside the tower where the Israeli Consulate is located. The gunfire echoed inside nearby bank headquarters, where thousands of workers were breaking for lunch.

Turkey, a fierce critic of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, had recalled its ambassador from Israel in November 2023 and diplomatic relations have been effectively frozen since then.

At the same time that year, Israeli diplomats left Turkey due to security concerns after pro-Palestinian protests erupted across the country and in front of the consulate. Since then, a heavily armed police presence has been maintained in the area near the consulate.
