Jacob Elordi and Kendall Jenner: Zodiac Compatibility and the ‘Kardashian Curse’ Fan Theory

Following the box office disappointment of Jacob Elordi’s newest film, some fans are asking whether his rumored relationship with Kendall Jenner could be part of the conversation. For years, the internet has circulated talk of the so-called “Kardashian Curse,” a theory tied to athletes and entertainers who have dated members of the Kardashian-Jenner family. But when it comes to Elordi and Jenner, is their astrological compatibility compelling enough to outweigh the supposed career risk?

What is the Kardashian Curse?

The “Kardashian Curse” is a long-running online theory suggesting that certain people experience professional setbacks or personal turmoil after becoming romantically involved with someone in the Kardashian-Jenner circle. Much of the speculation has centered on the sisters’ relationships with professional athletes, several of whom faced injuries, performance dips or career struggles during or after those romances.

The pattern, at least according to believers, has not been limited to sports stars. High-profile figures outside athletics, including Scott Disick and Kanye West, have also been surrounded by controversy following their relationships with the family.

Kendall Jenner herself appeared to poke fun at the idea in a 2026 Super Bowl ad. The model has been linked to several professional athletes over the years, helping keep the “Kardashian Curse” theory alive in pop culture.

“Haven’t you heard? The internet says I’m cursed,” she said in a Fanatics ad. “Any basketball player who dates me kinda hits a rough patch.”

She joked that she makes her money by betting on sports.

What is the compatibility between Jacob Elordi and Kendall Jenner?

Elordi’s latest film, The Dog Stars, is his first since he began a relationship with Jenner. It has been a critical and box office bomb. It made just $8 million on its opening weekend on an $80 million budget. This has led some people to joke that he has been struck by the Kardashian Curse.

Though — according to Internet lore — Elordi’s career might be at risk, he may think it’s worth it given his high astrological compatibility with Jenner. Elordi, who was born on June 26, is a Cancer. Jenner, who was born on Nov. 3, is a Scorpio. These are both water signs, which makes them highly compatible.

Both signs are deeply emotional and value close friendships. While Scorpios are a bit more private than Cancers, they both are relatively introverted. They’re also loyal and emotionally intelligent, which are important traits in a relationship.

They may face issues with passive aggression as both signs avoid direct confrontation. If they can learn to communicate, though, things can be smooth sailing between them.

Kendall Jenner’s family is reportedly worried about Jacob Elordi

Jenner and Elordi were first linked at Coachella. Since then, they’ve been spotted together many times. They’ve been on a number of trips throughout the globe. According to some reports, Jenner’s family feels concerned that she is footing the bill for all these trips. Her brother, Brody Jenner, cleared this up, though.

“I can confirm that this is clickbait,” he wrote on Instagram.

At this point, then, it seems that things are going well between the new couple.

AOC Slams Flock Cameras as Midterm Surveillance Fears Grow

0

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has stepped into a growing bipartisan backlash against Flock, as the company’s surveillance camera network emerges as an unexpected flashpoint in the midterm election debate.

The controversy centers on Flock’s license plate-reading cameras, which have spread rapidly across communities throughout the United States and sparked alarm among critics who warn of civil liberties violations and a creeping Big Brother-style surveillance system.

While some Republicans remain divided over the technology, a number of progressives have been far more blunt in their criticism — including Ocasio-Cortez, who took aim at the cameras during an interview Wednesday.

‘Oh man, Flock Cameras are terrible. These things are awful,’ the Congresswoman told MeidasTouch.

The New York Democrat said Americans do not want to live in a “surveillance state” or have their personal information “hooked up to AI companies” that are “vacuuming” up data.

“I don’t even know how they are legal half of the time,” she said, criticizing how the cameras are being installed and how the company is holding meetings and securing what she described as “sweetheart contracts” with local police departments without enough public vetting or transparency.

Ocasio-Cortez, whom many think will run for president in 2028, said that Flock cameras go against the notion of American freedom.

‘When we talk about what living in a free country means, I think the ability to move freely without looking over your shoulder to see if some private company is spying on you is a foundational element of that.’

Flock Safety’s once-local policing tool has grown into a vast, searchable network, with 120,000 cameras across 49 states that automatically track the license plates on passing vehicles.

Reports of alleged misuse, fears over abortion and immigration tracking and the prospect of federal access have turned an obscure local issue into a national battle.

Ocasio-Cortez is one of many politicians and those running for office in the midterms who have gone after the cameras.

Across the country and up and down ballots, candidates from both parties are increasingly on the attack over Flock cameras.

James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Texas, recently declared, ‘Flock cameras have no place in Texas.’

His Republican opponent Ken Paxton’s campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Josh Shapiro, the Democratic Pennsylvania governor seeking reelection and considered a potential contender for the White House in 2028, said this week he would support a statewide ban.

His Republican opponent, Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, said in a statement, ‘Flock cameras are an intrusive invasion of privacy and they should be banned.’

In Wisconsin, the issue dominated the governor’s race this week.

Democratic nominee David Crowley, who is taking hits over his past comments in support of making Wisconsin a global AI and data hub, highlighted that he had issued an order limiting the use of Flock cameras in Milwaukee County, where he serves as county executive.

He said that as governor he would ‘implement strict transparency and accountability laws that ensure Wisconsinites are not spied on.’

His Republican opponent, Congressman Tom Tiffany, said in a statement that he would pause state funding for Flock cameras and create a task force to establish stronger privacy protections, penalties for misuse, limits on data retention and sharing and ‘safeguards against Communist China and foreign adversaries.’

In Michigan, self-described democratic socialist William Lawrence, a Democratic nominee for the House, recently addressed the cameras by calling them ‘the most un-American thing I can imagine.’

A spokesman for his opponent, incumbent Rep. Tom Barrett, noted that Barrett is a co-sponsor of legislation intended to ban federal agencies from using Flock cameras or other surveillance technology and to prevent state and local governments from using federal funds to buy them.

In Florida, where outgoing Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’s administration this week ordered the removal of automated license plate readers from state highway rights-of-way, Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon’s campaign is selling a T-shirt that reads, ‘FLORIDA NEEDS TO GET THE FLOCK OUT.’

While calls for bans or restrictions have mounted, other candidates have expressed more supportive or nuanced views, and policing groups have reiterated their strong backing for the company and its tech.

President Donald Trump said recently at an Oval Office event that his administration was studying the issue and would have more to say soon.

Last week, The Daily Mail reported a debate has been sparked in the West Wing about the federal use of the surveillance technology that has left some Republicans squeamish.

‘Flock has been something we’ve been chatting about,’ a former CIA official told the Daily Mail. ‘I think it’s creepy and has the vulnerability of being hacked by the Chinese or some other adversary. It’s Big Brother. Don’t care who’s running the government, it’s too tempting to weaponize.’

What separates Flock from other systems is its advanced camera optics, the former agent said. The cameras are not simply license plate readers but can identify people by their face or even the way that they walk.

‘Right now, it’s mostly plate reader stuff, but the hardware has the ability to do facial and gait recognition. Supplement that with AI, and you can do a world of ubiquitous technical surveillance.’

The federal, state and municipal use of the surveillance technology comes with trade-offs, the source added: ‘Security for privacy.’

While the president and his administration study the matter, multiple Republican lawmakers and scores of Democrats have come out against the systems.

But the ongoing discussion in the White House revolves around whether they should be more widely adopted by the federal government, particularly in law enforcement capacities.

Stephen Miller, the president’s top policy adviser, declined to comment on whether he wants access to Flock for federal immigration officials, but he did blame the current ‘public attitudes and views’ on Flock on the left.

‘You have parts of this country run by the left, where they make the good guys into the bad guy and the bad guys into the good guy,’ he told the Daily Mail. ‘And the key to the Trump administration’s policy is we protect the good guys and we punish the bad guys.’

‘We don’t have a contract with them,’ a Department of Homeland Security official told the Daily Mail in a statement. The source did not say whether or not the department is seeking a future contract.

Two United States Secret Service sources say the White House does not use Flock, but that they have their own advanced capabilities using an array of cameras and sensors.

Flock Safety was founded in 2017 by three Georgia Tech graduates in Atlanta. The company now makes $300 million per year.

Its cameras include AI-powered automatic license plate readers that document passing vehicles, their license plates, along with their makes, models, colors and distinguishing features, such as dents, stickers or other damage.

These identifiable details are then uploaded to a database that police can search. That data is often used to help authorities identify stolen vehicles, track missing persons and generate investigative leads.

Opponents of the systems claim they pose risks of mass surveillance, police misuse leading to wrongful stops, cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and the erosion of Fourth Amendment protections. Proponents say they help municipalities crack down on crime.

The company has partnered with the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) in the past.

It also works with Veterans Affairs hospitals and US military bases, according to the Flock website.

A Flock Safety spokesman stressed how the company has been used to help law enforcement and its cloud systems have ‘never been hacked.’

‘Flock does not use facial recognition and we do not have facial recognition technology in development. The suggestion that our LPR hardware is being designed to enable facial or gait recognition is incorrect.’

Minneapolis Apartment Shooting: Victims, Injured Officers ID’d

0

Minnesota authorities have identified the victims in Wednesday’s shooting at a Minneapolis apartment building, where two civilians were killed and two police officers were wounded by gunfire.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said the civilians who died were 63-year-old Dale Henry Spry and 61-year-old Muse A. Afrah. Officials had earlier reported that one person was pronounced dead at the apartment complex, while the second later died at a hospital.

Investigators believe both victims lived in the building where 35-year-old Carlton Neal Johnson II opened fire before being killed during an exchange of gunfire with responding officers. A preliminary autopsy found that Johnson suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and authorities classified his death as a homicide.

The BCA also named the two injured Minneapolis Police Department officers as Joseph Michnowski, who has served with the department for five years, and Yahye Ahmed, a nearly two-year veteran of the force.

Ahmed was released from a hospital Thursday, while Michnowski remained hospitalized Thursday afternoon, interim Police Chief Bill Peterson said during a briefing.

Garrett Parten, an MPD public information officer, said one of the injured officers sustained an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, while the other underwent surgery.

Another officer involved in the incident was also evaluated for an apparent non-life-threatening injury, Parten said.

Peterson identified the third officer as Ernest Boateng but clarified that his injuries were not directly related to the gunfire. Boateng was cut by glass while breaking a window of a locked police vehicle whose sirens were going off, Peterson said.

Boateng was evaluated and released Wednesday.

The BCA said at least one officer discharged his gun during the incident, identifying the officer as Liban Mohamed Ibrahim, a two-year MPD veteran.

“Investigators are continuing to determine whether any other officers fired their weapons,” BCA said.

Wednesday’s shooting began during a domestic child custody exchange involving a woman who previously had a relationship with Johnson, according to Drew Evans, superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Johnson reportedly shot the woman outside the building before going inside the apartment, where he shot another facility worker. He then went to the ninth floor, where he shot two residents who later died.

He was also facing eviction from the apartment building, according to court records obtained by Fox9 Minneapolis.

Officials have not determined whether Johnson specifically targeted the victims.

Ex-Pardon Attorney Says She Was Fired Over Trump-Linked Mel Gibson Gun Rights Favor

A former senior Justice Department official dismissed under the Trump administration has taken her case to federal court in Washington, D.C., claiming in a new lawsuit that her removal was illegal.

Elizabeth Oyer was serving in early 2025 as the DOJ pardon attorney, a nonpolitical career role focused on helping guide the executive branch through clemency-related matters.

But after President Donald Trump returned to office, Oyer says she was pushed to abandon the normal responsibilities of her position and help carry out what her 32-page complaint describes as “a political favor” for actor Mel Gibson.

According to the lawsuit, Oyer alleges that Gibson’s connection to Trump led to pressure for her office to create the appearance that an independent review had concluded the actor — previously convicted in a domestic violence case — should have his firearm rights reinstated.

“Ms. Oyer declined,” the lawsuit continues. “Shortly after, she was fired by then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.”

The only message Blanche gave was that she was out of her job in the Office of the Pardon Attorney “pursuant to Article II of the United States Constitution and the laws of the United States.”

This excuse simply was not legal, Oyer says.

“DOJ made no pretense of adhering to statutorily mandated procedures, which required DOJ to provide Ms. Oyer with notice and an opportunity to be heard,” the lawsuit goes on. “Nor did DOJ purport to remove Ms. Oyer for any statutorily allowable reason.”

Instead, Oyer received the “terse notice” containing the boilerplate claim about the Article II powers, the lawsuit claims.

The plaintiff says her termination violated her constitutional due process rights and her rights under the Civil Service Reform Act (CSRA). The lawsuit also claims a First Amendment violation because the removal was partially based on Oyer’s “perceived political affiliation.”

Oyer claims a further constitutional violation of the separation of powers doctrine “because ‘Article II’ does not give DOJ carte blanche to disregard removal protections mandated by Congress.”

The plaintiff says the gun rights request for the Hollywood actor was the real reason for her firing.

First, Oyer notes, she was assigned the “unusual task” of developing a list of people whose gun rights were lost due to criminal convictions, but “who merited” consideration for gun rights restoration by the DOJ, according to the lawsuit.

The plaintiff worked in a group to develop a list of 95 such individuals and provided the data to Blanche. In turn, Blanche’s office whittled that list down to nine individuals and asked Oyer to develop a memo making the case for restoration, the filing recounts.

“Ms. Oyer drafted the memo, as requested,” the lawsuit continues. “Mr. Blanche’s staff then came back to Ms. Oyer with another request: they asked her to add the actor Mel Gibson to the list.”

The plaintiff says she declined to put Gibson on the list for two reasons. First, she cited the actor’s history of domestic violence. Second, she noted that “unlike the other individuals on the recommended list for gun rights restoration, who had undergone a significant amount of background investigation, Mr. Gibson had not been investigated.” Oyer said the lack of an investigation meant her team “was not able to assess his likelihood of recidivism.”

On March 6, 2025, Oyer sent an email indicating that Gibson would not make the cut, according to the lawsuit.

“Later the same day, a senior official on Mr. Blanche’s staff called Ms. Oyer and urged her to recommend reinstatement of Mr. Gibson’s gun rights anyway in consideration of the fact that Mr. Gibson had a personal relationship with President Trump,” the complaint goes on. “The official employed a bullying tone and suggested to Ms. Oyer that she would be wise to make the recommendation.”

The next day, Oyer penned a formal memo relaying her concerns with Gibson’s case and noting the attorney general had the ultimate decision in the matter, the lawsuit says.

Later that day, during a meeting on an unrelated issue, a colleague pulled her aside and told her that security was waiting in her office to deliver termination documents, the lawsuit alleges. In her office, she was handed Blanche’s short memo while security officers “instructed her to pack up her personal belongings, and escorted her out of the building.”

Aside from statutory and constitutional violations, the filing insists the firing was illegally political:

DOJ’s perception [was] that Ms. Oyer, who was hired during the Biden Administration, was not politically affiliated with the current Administration. Indeed, when Ms. Oyer declined to disregard her duties in order to perform a favor for her politically-appointed superiors and President Trump, she was summarily terminated.

The plaintiff is requesting a declaratory judgment that her firing violated the law and Constitution. She is also seeking reinstatement, back pay and benefits, and an injunction barring the Trump administration “from taking any further adverse personnel action” against her.

2 Workers Rescued Alive After Being Trapped in Nepal Tunnel, Officials Say

0

Around 900 workers remain unaccounted for across 12 hydropower projects in Nepal, and authorities believe about 500 of them may be trapped inside tunnels.

NEPAL, — Rescue teams in Nepal brought two workers out alive from a tunnel on Friday as crews continued a high-stakes operation at the Trishul 3A tunnel, officials said.

Nepalese lawmaker Shri Ram Neupane reported the second rescue in a Facebook post soon after army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Raja Ram Basnet confirmed that the first trapped worker had been pulled out during the tunnel rescue effort.

The breakthroughs came nine days after the Aug. 26 floods, which were likely triggered by a glacier collapse and swept through towns and valleys across Nepal.

Local television news channels aired footage of the first rescued worker, coated in mud, being carried away from the site on a rescuer’s shoulder. Basnet said a medical team was examining him at the scene.

At least 1,259 people were killed and more than 5,000 remain missing, according to the country’s disaster management agency. China, as of late Wednesday, said 21 people were killed and 541 were missing on the Tibet side of the border.

About 900 workers are missing from 12 hydropower projects in Nepal, with roughly 500 believed to be trapped in tunnels, according to local authorities.

Mother Says She Feels Helpless After UnitedHealthcare Denies Son’s Coverage

0

A mother says she has been left feeling “helpless” after UnitedHealthcare allegedly refused to pay for her son’s brain injury rehabilitation, accusing the insurance giant of putting profits ahead of patients.

Peyton Alvarez, a 25-year-old airline mechanic with PSA Airlines, was riding his motorcycle in Greenville, South Carolina, on April 28 when he crashed into a tree.

Despite wearing a helmet and protective gear, Peyton suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in the impact and remained unconscious for six weeks. Doctors warned his mother, Trina Alvarez, that her son might never wake up.

Then, in early June, Peyton opened his right eye. He has since been able to move his left arm and wiggle his toes on command, Trina told the Daily Mail.

Hoping to give him the best chance at recovery, Trina filed a claim through Peyton’s employer-sponsored insurance plan, administered by UnitedHealthcare, and arranged for him to be transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, a leading rehabilitation hospital for brain injury patients.

But on July 7, Trina was crushed when she received a denial letter from UnitedHealthcare, which stated that Peyton’s treatment at the facility was ‘medically unnecessary.’

‘It is so frustrating. It makes me so angry that they can control what happens with my son because the longer he stays at the hospital he’s at, the less chance he has to wake up,’ Trina told the Daily Mail.

‘When you push a parent to the point of feeling like they are helpless, and may contribute to whether their son may ever be able to talk or move his arms and legs or sit up on his own, that should not be allowed,’ she added.

Peyton suffered a brain injury in an April 28 motorcycle crash, but he was allegedly denied care at a top rehab facility because UnitedHealthcare deemed it ‘not medically necessary’

‘UnitedHealthcare is one of the biggest insurance companies. They make sh** tons of money, and they want to deny his care,’ Trina said.

‘It’s all about the money. It’s not about my son and the medical care that he should get,’ she added.

When Peyton opened his left eye and showed that he could still make small movements, it was a ray of hope for his anguished mother.

It was the young man’s doctor who recommended that he be transferred to the Shepherd Center, and when Trina’s application to have her son treated there was accepted, that marked another moment of hope.

The selective facility only accepts patients with a good chance of at least partial recovery, and around 85 percent of those who are admitted to the program experience improvement in their condition, Trina said. It also only accepts patients covered by insurance.

So when UnitedHealthcare denied Peyton’s initial claim, and then also denied an appeal Trina submitted with documentation of the doctor’s recommendation, the mom was utterly devastated.

UnitedHealthcare came under scrutiny for denying insurance claims after its former CEO, Brian Thompson, was assassinated in late 2024.

Thompson’s killer, Luigi Mangione, recently admitted in court that he was motivated by his frustration and anger at the healthcare system after being unable to receive coverage for chronic severe back pain.

‘[UnitedHealthcare is] the biggest insurance company,’ she said. ‘They’ve made the most money, and they’re the most commonly denying this kind of cr**.’

Trina explained that UnitedHealthcare justified denying Peyton’s treatment at the Shepherd center because he is at a three on the Rancho scale, a clinical measure of cognitive recovery for patients with brain injuries.

It is indeed common for insurance companies to deny rehab coverage for patients at a three on the scale, as their clinical measures for providing claims are rigid. Trina said that UnitedHealthcare wanted her son to be at a four to qualify for coverage.

‘But the problem is, getting him to a four is dependent on him getting in the [Shepherd Center] program. That’s what they do is get them further,’ the mom told the Daily Mail.

She added that over the past few days, Peyton has been awake for hours at a time and holding his head up on his own.

‘I know that the more stimulation he gets, the better he’s getting,’ Trina said, emphasizing that the sooner he gets the treatment he needs, the likelier he is to have a more significant recovery.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, UnitedHealthcare said: ‘We empathize with the Alvarez family during this incredibly difficult time.

Trina said that UnitedHealthcare wants to put her son in a skilled nursing facility, but she refuses to compromise on his care. Peyton is pictured petting a puppy before his accident

‘Based on the clinical information we have, Mr. Alvarez has alternative full-time care options covered under his plan that can provide rehabilitative therapy. We are ready to work with the family as soon as they make a decision.’

Trina scoffed at that reply and said that the ‘alternative’ option UnitedHealthcare referred to was putting Peyton in a skilled nursing facility.

‘They said a skilled nursing facility was a middle ground. That was our compromise,’ Trina told the Daily Mail. ‘When would anybody be okay with compromising on their son’s medical treatment?’

‘If he goes to a skilled nursing facility, all they’re going to do is make sure he doesn’t starve to death and keep him clean,’ she said.

Trina told the Daily Mail that she has been looking into having her son transferred to the Hermann Hospital in Houston, another top brain injury rehab, and potentially paying out of pocket.

If treatment at the facility brings him to a four on the Rancho scale, he may then qualify for coverage under UnitedHealthcare’s plan, but Trina said she is also looking into swapping providers because the hospital told her other companies might pay for his care.

An online fundraiser has been organized to help Peyton’s family cover out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Christian Missionaries Kicked Out of Burning Man After Alleged Rule-Breaking Ignites Culture Clash

0

Burning Man is now underway in Black Rock, Nevada, where the 10-day desert gathering is built around themes of creativity, community and human connection. But one Christian group says that spirit of “radical inclusion” did not extend to them.

John Hinerman, who leads the Christian outreach group Shift the Atmosphere, traveled to the Burning Man festival with the goal of sharing the message of Jesus. In an Instagram video posted Wednesday, he said organizers had told the group to leave the event.

“Burning Man is discriminating us and breaking their own rules of being ‘radically inclusive’ and KICKING us out for being Christians?!” Hinerman wrote in the caption accompanying the post.

In the video, Hinerman told followers the group was packing up after being asked to depart. “We have been asked to leave Burning Man. We’re packing up. They’re kicking us out. Satan’s mad. We have over 600 people who have given their lives to Jesus already, and Satan can’t do anything about it,” he said.

Hinerman also said he believed “God is about to move and do something huge,” adding that the group had been given just three hours to dismantle a camp he said took an entire week to set up.

He added that the festival claimed their ejection was due to his group filming people without their consent, but he claimed those were “lies” made up by the festival.

“What’s crazy to me is there’s young kids – which is wicked and sad that parents would bring their kids to these – but grown men will have their penises out and women are walking around naked without consent,” he said.

“These children didn’t give you consent to be walking around with your penises out in front of all these kids. It’s so wicked and sad.”

He concluded that post by stating, “Burning Man knows they’re wrong. God will have the last say.”

Burning Man spokesperson Dominique Debucquoy-Dodley responded to Hinerman’s claims (via SF Gate), stating, “Burning Man takes participants’ right to privacy seriously.”

“Seeking permission and consent before filming or engaging other participants in Black Rock City is a requirement and responsibility for anyone at the event. This camp received multiple warnings and opportunities to correct their behavior, yet continued to violate our policies and were therefore evicted,” he added.

The complaints stemmed from Hinerman’s group filming people while encouraging them to “take a blessing,” which violated Burning Man’s rules.

Hinerman shared another video on Instagram Wednesday, showing some encounters with friendly “burners” who helped them clean up their camp when they were asked to leave.

“Many other BURNERS are coming and JOINING us helping us clean up everything up because even THEY are against the Burning Man for kicking us out for sharing our Faith…” the post began.

“WE LOVE the BURNERS. We had such beautiful time spending with the people here. Burning Man is WRONG for kicking us Out and the devil is MAD over 800 people gave their lives to Jesus and became a LIVING temple of the Holy Spirit. One of their #1 Rules, is “Radical Inclusion”. I guess it’s Radical inclusion for everyone EXCEPT Christians,” he concluded.

Hinerman and Shift the Atmosphere appear to be moving on from the ordeal, with his latest post on Thursday revealing that they were continuing on their “mission to save souls” to Reno, Nevada.

Karen Read Lawyer Says Clancy Defense Attorney May Be Cut From a Different Cloth as Deliberations Drag On

0

As jurors moved toward the close of a sixth day of deliberations in Lindsay Clancy’s case — after twice informing the judge they were unable to agree on a unanimous verdict — one of Karen Read’s former defense attorneys commended Clancy’s lawyer for his handling of the trial.

“It immediately brings back the stress and the pressure that comes from having somebody’s life in your hands and the very worst part of a trial, which is when the jury’s out,” said David Yannetti, who played a central role on Read’s defense team during both of her Massachusetts murder trials. “So I feel for Kevin now, as I feel any lawyer in that situation, but he appears to be confident.”

Yannetti said the two high-profile Massachusetts cases stand out because both involve professional women with no prior criminal records or history in court, and both defendants attracted significant public backing.

“I think by all accounts, he did a wonderful job with this case, defending this woman in what is a horrific set of facts,” Yannetti told News Media. “I think Kevin has succeeded to a large degree already.”

Clancy is charged with three counts of murder in the deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, who was 8 months old. Jurors could find her guilty of first- or second-degree murder, manslaughter, or not criminally responsible under her insanity defense.

While the facts of the cases are worlds apart, both involve intense scrutiny from both the media and the public.

Judge William Sullivan, who is presiding over the Clancy trial, explained the prosecution’s burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt after receiving a new note from the jury Thursday afternoon.

Then he sent jurors back to continue deliberating.

With jurors out of the courtroom, Reddington made a fiery request to the judge, asking for the removal of an apparent single holdout whom he said another juror accused of failing to follow the law.

Sullivan rejected the request.

“Refusing to deliberate and refusing to agree are not the same thing,” said retired Massachusetts Judge Carol Erskine, who is not involved with the case. She explained in an X post that judges are also required to be “extremely cautious” not to interfere with deliberations.

The court recessed for the day shortly after 4 p.m., and jurors will return Friday morning for their seventh day of deliberations.

The wait can be brutal for attorneys and their clients, Yannetti told News Media.

“It’s torture,” he said. Trial attorneys like to be in control, he explained, but once the jurors are out, there’s nothing to do but watch and wait.

“You’re all just sort of on the frying pan, being cooked,” he said.

Read’s first trial ended with a deadlocked jury after five days in 2024. She was acquitted of all homicide-related charges after her second trial last year, when jurors deliberated for four days.

Photos Show Jim Thornton in Alleged Pedophilia Chatroom

Newly published photos appear to show suspended “Wheel of Fortune” announcer Jim Thornton viewing an alleged pedophilia-related chatroom during a flight.

Thornton, 61, is pictured looking at a laptop aboard an American Airlines plane in images published Thursday by TMZ. A close-up of the screen shows disturbing chat messages, including one that reads, “A nice hangout for kids. Saw a couple of cute boys and a hot little girl.”

Another visible message says, “All-you-can-eat Boyffet.”

Based on the timestamps shown, Thornton — seen wearing a “Wheel of Fortune” jacket in the photos — appears to have remained in the chatroom for nearly an hour.

The passenger who alerted a flight attendant told TMZ she allegedly noticed images and messages that led her to believe Thornton was in a chatroom for pedophiles, after which she shared the photos with the flight crew.

Law enforcement officers were notified about the incident and met Thornton at the gate upon his arrival. Officers questioned the TV personality, who was then released.

Thornton has not been arrested or charged in connection with the incident, which occurred on May 14.

Page Six has reached out to Thornton’s attorney for comment on the photos.

Thornton’s attorney, Allison Hart, claimed in a letter obtained by Page Six Thursday — prior to TMZ publishing the photos — that he accidentally clicked into the chatroom by mistake when he was trying to visit a chatroom offering support to individuals suffering from suicidal ideation, after losing a close family member to suicide two years ago.

“One of the sites my client has visited is 988lifeline.org, and its chat forum chat.988lifeline.org. … Through an acquaintance in the suicide prevention space, my client was misdirected to a forum with a similar URL, the forum lifeline.chat, which my client understood to be a forum offering suicide prevention support similar to 988lifeline.org and chat.988lifeline.org,” Hart claimed.

Hart alleged that Thornton did not know the website “lifeline.chat” claims to offer mental health support to individuals with pedophilic thoughts.

“When my client understood what the website was about, he left the page and has not visited since,” Hart also claimed, adding, “The website lifeline.chat itself is not unlawful, there is no unlawful child pornography or other pedophilic content, and my client has never viewed, downloaded or consumed any child pornography, whether on that commercial flight in May or at any other time.”

Hart further stressed, “It is for that reason that my client was never arrested or charged with a crime. Law enforcement immediately confirmed that no crime had occurred and immediately told my client he was free to go. In short, my client did nothing wrong.”

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Sony told Page Six, “We have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended from ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation.”

Thornton will reportedly be edited out of the upcoming 44th season of “Wheel of Fortune” as producers scramble to replace him.
