Gainesville Felon Arrested After Traffic Stop Uncovers Gun and Concealed Knives

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Joshua Austin Bailey, 37, was arrested Monday night after Gainesville police said a traffic stop led officers to a firearm and several concealed knives.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, an officer spotted a vehicle traveling about 46 mph in a 30-mph zone at approximately 8:59 p.m. on September 1. After pacing the vehicle for more than 10 blocks, the officer initiated a stop in the 1300 block of South Main Street.

The officer reported that Bailey was behind the wheel and was the only person in the vehicle. Police said the officer also detected a strong odor of fresh marijuana. When asked for his driver’s license, Bailey allegedly reached into a black book bag on the seat, prompting the officer to order him to stop reaching into the bag and step out of the vehicle.

Bailey reportedly told the officer he had a medical marijuana card and said there might be a burnt “blunt” or “roach” in the center console. The officer confirmed the card was valid, but reportedly determined Bailey did not have any active open orders.

A probable-cause search of the vehicle reportedly turned up the following items:

  • A loaded and chambered Taurus G2, two fixed-blade knives with duct tape sheaths, and Bailey’s wallet in the book bag;
  • A fixed-blade knife with no sheath between the driver’s seat and the center console;
  • A fixed-blade knife/machete with a cloth sheath tucked between the front passenger seat and the center console;
  • A THC vape wrapper, THC-P container, and Hemp Cannabis container in the center console.

All of the knives were reportedly concealed from view but readily accessible to Bailey, who reportedly acknowledged that he knows he is a felon.

Post Miranda, Bailey reportedly said the vehicle belonged to a relative, and he added that the book bag also belonged to the relative and the firearm was not his. He said the knives belonged to his son and that his son had been cleaning the vehicle before he drove it; he said his son must have put his wallet in the book bag. He said his son had not finished cleaning the vehicle because his dog urinated and defecated.

Bailey was reportedly unable to explain why there was an unsheathed knife between his seat and the center console; he reportedly said it had fallen there.

At the jail, Bailey reportedly said he had gone camping over the weekend with his son and a woman, and that was why the knives were in the vehicle.

The officer cited Bailey for unlawful speed and charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bailey has two felony convictions (two violent). Judge Lua Lepianka set bail at $15,000.

Aryna Sabalenka unveiled a fresh take on her much-discussed sheer dress at the US Open on Wednesday night, ensuring her on-court fashion remained a major talking point in New York.

The world No. 1 had already drawn plenty of attention at Flushing Meadows after stepping out in a black, basketball-style look for mixed doubles, with her vivid orange sports bra and coordinating briefs clearly visible beneath the see-through design.

Sabalenka, the two-time defending singles champion, followed that up with a similar outfit in Queens on Monday, swapping the black for a bold all-orange version as she opened her 2026 US Open campaign with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Camila Osorio.

For her second-round appearance on Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday, however, Sabalenka went back to black. This time, the entire look was coordinated, with a black sports bra and matching briefs worn underneath the sheer outer layer.

The Belarusian star appeared completely at ease in the latest version of her US Open outfit, quickly taking control against Russian-born opponent Polina Iatcenko and powering through the opening set 6-1.

After Monday night’s eye-catching orange look, Sabalenka explained the change was because sponsor Nike actually developed day and night versions of the outfit for her to wear during the tournament.

‘To be honest, I didn’t know that I have a day dress,’ she said. ‘I thought I have a black dress with orange underneath. I figured [out] when I went to Nike that I actually have day session and night session, which is just like black and orange for the day.’

Tennis fans were quick to slam the risque outfit that Sabalenka wore during the mixed doubles event with Djokovic, although she did not back down from criticism.

‘Who cares what people think?’ she told reporters at Flushing Meadows on Friday’s media day. ‘I love it,’ she added.

As she explained, her grand-slam outfits are inspired by the cities where the four tournaments are played.

‘Surfing for the Australian Open, ballet for Roland Garros, cricket for Wimbledon,’ she said. ‘Now it’s basketball and we’re in New York. Isn’t it the perfect fit?’

The outfit certainly set fans’ tongues wagging on social media, with one viewer writing: ‘How about that – Sabalenka leading the parade of streetwalker chic at the US Open with fishnet over shorts and a sports bra. Why does New York bring out all the trashy-ness?’

She partnered up at the start of the year with New York jeweler Material Good and has since debuted an eye-catching array of pieces in Melbourne, Paris, and London. 

In keeping with the bold style of the US Open itself, her necklace, bracelet and earring set for the Big Apple is particularly vivid, featuring an array of colored stones said to represent the city’s ‘multicultural melting pot heritage’. 

It is also her most expensive jewelry set, with the pieces valued at over $400,000.  

Sabalenka’s necklace is set in 18-carat gold, featuring 83.20 total carats, courtesy of its sapphire, tourmaline, garnet, zircon, spinel, chrysoberyl, and tanzanite stones.

Uber Plans to Cut 10% of Workforce in Cost-Saving Overhaul

Uber is cutting 10% of its global staff in a broad restructuring aimed at making the ride-hailing giant leaner and easier to operate, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told employees in an open memo posted Wednesday on the company’s website.

Based on Uber’s workforce size at the end of last year, the layoffs would affect about 3,400 employees worldwide.

The company said the move is designed to reduce management layers, simplify how teams are organized and improve overall efficiency. Khosrowshahi said the savings and sharper focus will help Uber put more resources behind drivers, couriers and merchants, while also accelerating new technology efforts, including autonomous driving.

“To do those things, we need to make deliberate choices about where we put our people, our time, and our capital,” Khosrowshahi wrote in the memo.

Analysts at Wedbush Securities estimated the workforce reductions could generate approximately $1.7 billion in savings for Uber.

Uber also announced a new “location strategy” that effectively mandates in-person work at its major office hubs. 

“The benefits of sitting together, collaborating in person, and solving problems as a team are clearer than ever in our post-COVID world,” Khosrowshahi said. “With that in mind, we’re establishing clearer principles for where roles and teams should be based, with the goal of concentrating teams in a smaller number of key hubs.”

Uber is requiring most of its remote employees to relocate to a geographic location where they can report to an office, stating that only about 1% of workers will be permitted to work remotely in the future. 

Uber, founded in 2009 as a rideshare company, has since expanded into other businesses, including food and retail delivery.

Lindsay Clancy Jury Ends Day 5 With No Verdict After Rare Instruction

Jurors in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial deliberated for a fifth day Wednesday, telling the court for the second time that they were unable to reach a unanimous decision. After receiving an uncommon instruction from the judge urging them to continue their work toward a verdict, the panel ended the day without resolving the case.

The developments pushed the closely followed Massachusetts murder trial nearer to the possibility of a mistrial, although jurors are expected to return Thursday to resume deliberations.

The jury, made up of nine women and three men, returned to deliberations Wednesday after informing Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan on Tuesday that it could not agree unanimously on a verdict.

When the panel reported another deadlock Wednesday, Sullivan issued a Tuey-Rodriguez charge, a formal instruction that asks jurors to keep deliberating while also cautioning them not to surrender sincerely held views simply for the sake of reaching unanimity.

After the instruction, jurors spent several more hours behind closed doors before Sullivan dismissed them for the day, still without a verdict.

Named for two Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decisions, the Tuey-Rodriguez charge encourages jurors to carefully consider one another’s views while preserving sincerely held convictions. It is generally considered the final procedural step before a judge may declare a mistrial if jurors remain unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

“The reasoning is that it often works,” retired Massachusetts Superior Court Judge Thomas Drechsler previously told News Media. “It encourages the jurors to rethink their own feelings in light of what other jurors feel, reminds them that no one’s ever going to be in a better position to decide this than them.”

But if jurors again report they are deadlocked after receiving the instruction, Drechsler said, “I think there’s a high likelihood that it will end up in a mistrial.”

Clancy, 36, a former labor and delivery nurse, does not dispute killing the children. Her defense argues she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and should be found not criminally responsible. Prosecutors contend she carefully planned the killings, knew right from wrong and concealed disturbing thoughts from medical providers because she understood they were wrong.

Wednesday also brought developments outside the courtroom after Dawn Light, the woman accused of filming jurors as they left the courthouse Tuesday, was arraigned on a witness intimidation-related charge. She pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors said a video recovered from her cellphone showed Clancy jurors leaving the courthouse, while Light maintained she was trying to catch a glimpse of Clancy and did not realize she had recorded jurors.

A judge released Light on personal recognizance and ordered her to stay away from the courthouse, have no contact with jurors or witnesses and refrain from sharing any images.

Before jurors resumed deliberations Wednesday morning, Sullivan also reminded those in the courtroom that orders protecting jurors and other participants are “being enforced and will be enforced,” though he did not specifically reference Light’s arrest.

Several civilians were killed and two police officers were wounded Wednesday afternoon after an active shooter opened fire inside a downtown Minneapolis apartment building, authorities and local reports said.

The officers were responding to reports of gunfire near 15 East Grant Street when one was shot in the abdomen and the other in the leg, KSTP reports.

A law enforcement source confirmed to the station that multiple civilians died in the attack. Dispatch audio obtained by the Minneapolis Star Tribune also indicated that authorities took down the shooter.

Hennepin County officials later confirmed that the unidentified suspect had been taken into custody.

Images from the scene showed a heavy police response surrounding Loring Towers in downtown Minneapolis.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz added that his public safety team was also responding to the shooting, and noted that state officials are ‘on the ground to support local law enforcement.’

By 5.30pm, ATF agents, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents all responded to the scene. 

FBI Director Kash Patel also shared on social media that agents are responding to the scene as he vowed to ‘offer any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities.’

Anthony Strong told the Star Tribune how he was smoking behind the apartment building when he heard gunfire.

‘It was pop, pop, pop, pop and it was a bunch more after that, and then I went upstairs,’ he recounted.

There, he said he saw a property manager on the ground ‘and outside, there [were] two more people shot on the ground.

‘And then I saw them bring an officer out that got shot in the leg.’

Strong said he is still trying to ‘process’ what he witnessed. 

Umecua Agnew, a resident of the building, also said she was in the elevator on the first floor when the shots rang out.

‘It was three adults and one child in the elevator, we were all together and when we got to the first floor, it was when we heard the massive shooting,’ she said.

At that point, Agnew said she and another woman grabbed the child and went to her eighth-floor apartment, from where she heard more gunfire.

In a statement on social media, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said he and his wife are ‘praying for the Minneapolis police officers involved in this tragedy and all the victims.’

He added that he is in contact with law enforcement and is awaiting further information.

‘God bless our Peace Officers,’ Emmer wrote.

Orange County Schools Brace for Multimillion-Dollar Budget Cuts as Enrollment Declines

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County Public Schools is preparing for $8.5 million in budget cuts as the district grapples with a sharp drop in student enrollment, according to a memo issued Tuesday.

The memo, which was provided to News 6 by an anonymous source, says enrollment continues to fall across the district, prompting officials to consider significant cost-saving measures.

“Because state funding is largely driven by student enrollment, any decline results in a reduction in state funding,” the memo states.

The district is also under pressure from rising healthcare expenses tied to a widening deficit in the Employee Benefits Trust. Without changes to the health insurance plan, the memo says, that shortfall is costing the district an additional $20 million each month.

In response, district leaders said school budgets and staffing formulas have been “recalculated” to reflect the financial strain, with campuses enrolling fewer students than projected facing budget adjustments.

Last year, over 200 district-level positions were eliminated, with district department budgets being reduced by 5% over the past two years, officials added.

“Due to ongoing declines in enrollment, reduced state revenue, and rising healthcare costs, there will be an additional $8.5 million in budget reductions at the district level,” the memo continues. “While these decisions are difficult, our priority remains protecting classroom instruction, supporting students, and preserving essential services whenever possible.”

Gleb Savchenko is reassuring “Dancing With the Stars” viewers that he’s doing just fine after being left off the Season 35 professional dancer lineup.

Just hours after the new “DWTS” cast was revealed, the longtime pro took to Instagram with a shirtless video, laughing as he moved the camera down to show his sculpted abs and told fans, “Guys, you can stop telling me you’re sorry. I’m good.”

“Guys, I promise… I’m good 😂❤️,” Savchenko added in the caption of the post.

His absence from the ballroom means Savchenko will not be paired with a celebrity contestant this season, marking the first time in 10 years that he will not compete for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.

Savchenko made his “Dancing With the Stars” debut in 2013 during Season 16, when he was partnered with Lisa Vanderpump, but he did not become a regular presence on the ABC competition series until Season 23 in 2016.

Savchenko, 42, has consistently appeared on every subsequent season through last year’s Season 34, which saw him dancing with Hilaria Baldwin.

The Russian dancer hinted in his latest Instagram post that his future on the ABC reality competition series is unclear, writing, “Nothing but love and gratitude for all the years in that ballroom. Excited for this next chapter — and wishing everyone an amazing season. 🪩.”

“No sad messages,” he added. “We’re moving forward. 😉.”

Savchenko’s shocking exit comes on the heels of his ex-girlfriend — and Season 33 celebrity partner — Brooks Nader’s youngest sister, Sarah Jane Nader, joining the Season 35 cast.

Sarah Jane, 23, will be dancing alongside Hailey Bills, who has officially been promoted to pro status from the troupe this season. This marks the second time the show has paired two women together.

Savchenko and Brooks, 29, met in September 2024 when they were paired together on “DWTS” and quickly sparked romance rumors. Their relationship was confirmed later that month after the two were photographed kissing backstage.

Despite their headline-making PDA, the former couple told Page Six exclusively in October 2024 they had their sights set on winning the show.

“I feel a Mirrorball. I want it and I know we can do it,” Savchenko — who has still yet to win the trophy — told us at the time. “We both work really hard every single week and we’re taking it a week at a time … whatever happens, happens.”

Brooks also explained that the focus on their chemistry was “not really distracting” to them.

However, following their elimination later that month, Brooks shared a cryptic TikTok video seeming to suggest that Savchenko had ended things with her. “When he’s breaking up with me but I never knew we were dating,” she wrote in onscreen text at the time.

By the “DWTS” Season 33 finale in November, it appeared things were back on for the pair.

“Listen, I’ll tell you this. We have a crazy chemistry and when we’re together, we just love being with each other,” Savchenko exclusively told Page Six after the finale about where their relationship stood.

“We’re hanging out and we’re having fun. We’re living our life, we’re doing us, whatever that is, and we’re just having fun. That’s what life should be about,” he added.

Brooks blushed when chiming in that Savchenko was “amazing, obviously.”

The romance was officially over in April 2025, with Savchenko revealing he was “surprised to learn” through the media that Brooks had ended their relationship in a statement to Page Six.

“I am still processing everything, and while I don’t have all the answers, I wish Brooks the best moving forward,” he added, while denying Brooks’ claim that infidelity on his part was the reason behind the split.

Savchenko dished on his bedroom misadventures with Brooks in April 2026, calling her “probably the worst sex of my life” and alleging that he “chipped [a] tooth” during a sexual encounter.

In recent months, the pro dancer has been accused of being “rude” by his Season 23 partner Jana Kramer and been embroiled in a legal battle with ex-wife Elena Samodanova, whom he claims “abducted” their daughters and moved to China.

Savchenko, who is currently dating OnlyFans model Kaitlin Trujillo, shares daughters Olivia, 15, and Zlata, 8, with Samodanova.
