Dusty Harris from Amazing Race had never been incarcerated or convicted of a crime.

Ryan Ferguson, a high school friend, was, however, wrongfully convicted of Kent Heitholt’s murder. Kent was beaten and strangled on November 1, 2001.

On the same night, Ferguson and Charles Erickson were out partying. For two years, the case went unsolved, but Charles began to suspect he was involved.

Despite his inability to recall what happened, Erickson confessed and implicated Ryan, who was 17 at the time. Ferguson was released in 2013 after serving a ten-year prison sentence.

Ryan then filed a civil suit against the Missouri Police Department and was awarded $11 million in damages. His story has also appeared on Dateline, 48 Hours, and other television shows.

Her sentence hearing is scheduled for August and is expected to serve 909 days to 5 years in prison with 20 years of probation.
