Sadly, it appears that the death of Dolly Parton was intertwined with the passing of her late husband. On August 25, news broke that Parton had died. A video featuring the country music star’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, was posted to the “9 to 5” singer’s Instagram page announcing the sad news. The previous year, her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, had died on March 3, 2025. Dean’s cause of death was not formally announced, but it was reported he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Parton herself had admitted that caring for her longtime partner had taken a physical toll.
In the days leading up to her passing, the legendary “Jolene” singer candidly spoke about her declining health. Concerns about Parton’s well-being escalated when she abruptly cancelled a significant event earlier in the month. “I’m facing some health challenges that I neglected while focusing on Carl,” she shared with People on August 21 after missing the launch of a new Dollywood attraction. During the interview, Parton minimized her health issues, suggesting that the media had sensationalized her situation. “Honestly, even though I’m still on the mend, I’m continuing to work,” she reassured her followers.
In the months following Dean’s death, Parton was working less and less, which included postponing a string of Las Vegas shows. Taking to Instagram in October 2025, the Queen of Country explained her health issues. “Back when my husband Carl was very sick, that was for a long time, and then when he passed, I didn’t take care of myself,” she said in the video. That included returning to work very quickly after her husband died.

Only days after Carl Dean died, Dolly Parton released a song dedicated to him. The track was called “If You Hadn’t Been There,” and she promoted it on her Instagram page on March 7, 2025. “Like all great love stories, they never end. … He will always be the star of my life story,” Parton wrote in the caption.
A few months later, Parton astonished fans by making a public appearance at a Dollywood parade. While she appeared poised to spectators, the beloved “I Will Always Love You” singer was privately grappling with her emotions. Reflecting on that time during an appearance on “Today” in May 2025, she shared, “Right after losing Carl, I was overwhelmed with feelings. I got into the van and just cried, overwhelmed by all the love and emotion.” Parton also opened up about the profound impact her husband’s passing had on her daily life. “I’ve loved him since I was 18, so adjusting to life without him has been challenging,” she admitted, noting that immersing herself in work has been a helpful distraction.
Throughout their marriage, Parton and Dean experienced their share of highs and lows, yet their deep affection for each other remained evident until the end. Known for shying away from the limelight, Dean rarely made public appearances, though Parton fondly recounted their bond in September 2020. After more than five decades together, Dean continued to surprise her with thoughtful gestures. “We still cherish our moments, like when the first yellow daffodils bloom in spring… my husband always brings me a bouquet,” Parton revealed to People. “He usually writes me a little poem too, which is priceless to me,” she added, highlighting the enduring romance between them.
The proportion of young Australians who own their homes has hit a plateau, echoing figures from the World War Two era. This stasis occurs amidst rising living costs and skyrocketing rent prices.
Only about 40% of individuals aged 25 to 34 held ownership of their homes according to the 2021 Census. Social welfare organization Anglicare Australia anticipates this figure has declined since then.
This ownership rate matches the levels seen in the 1940s, a time before the economic surge following World War Two when policies focused heavily on creating housing for veterans.
Concurrently, as property prices and rental rates have escalated, young Australians face greater challenges in saving for a mortgage while trying to live independently.
According to a recent Cotality report, rental prices in some Australian regions have surged by 80% over five years, particularly after the end of COVID-era rent controls.
Anglicare Australia said that support lines for younger people are dominated by stress over housing security and related bills.
“It’s almost impossible to have a call from a younger person who doesn’t mention the stress of rents or bills,” Anglicare Australia executive director Kasy Chambers told SBS News.
“They are studying, working and contributing. But they are earning less than the generations before them, being locked out of housing, and struggling to build the security that past generations took for granted.”
Home ownership has steadily declined across age groups since the 1970s, but younger Australians have felt the sharpest declines, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Angela Jackson, an economist at the Productivity Commission, the Australian government’s independent economic advisory body, said home ownership is particularly hard for lower socioeconomic groups.
“It is a lot more expensive relative to people’s incomes to get into the housing market than it was for Gen Z’s parents or grandparents,” she told SBS News.
“Which does raise alarm bells about broader equity.”
Housing in the 1940s
Home ownership rates have declined generation on generation in Australia, off the back of the housing boom in the post-war era.
Liz Allen, a demographer and social researcher from ANU, described 1940s Australians as going through “tough times”.
“There were issues with inequalities, especially around education, geographic and income and wealth inequality,” she said.
“I think it would be fair to say that the inequalities faced in that period and the global shocks during that period surpassed those that we’re experiencing now.”
Home ownership across all ages was lower than it is today, with younger people aged 25-34 the least likely to own property.
Allen said that the years after World War Two saw the “rhetoric of a fair go”, where government made a non-partisan effort to “rebuild Australia”.
It was a time of rapid residential construction and increases in home ownership.
“There were policies on multiple fronts to get people to Australia, to get people in Australia in work, in paid work, and to get people established in life with good wellbeing, access to education, homes, and so on,” she said.
“But now we’ve lost our way.”
Allen said that decades of governments have shifted towards short-term policy wins, and “kicked the can” of long-term housing “down the road”.
“We’re no longer in that mentality of building, but maintaining,” she said.
“And that undermines the very notion that we are a growing population, that we have new forms of inequalities emerging, and policy has not kept with societal and economic change.”
Less secure work
For many Australians, a home and the equity it generates over time will be their largest source of wealth and a source of security for children who may subsequently inherit it.
But for younger generations who take longer to save and pay off a home, the economic benefits can be diminished.
Jackson explained that the nature of work also makes it harder for Gen Zs to earn like their parents and grandparents.
“Work is more casual and can be more gig work, or less secure, which can make entering into mortgages and those long-term financial arrangements more difficult,” she said.
“And then incomes themselves have changed over time. For lower entry-level jobs compared to more experienced jobs, the relative wage is also lower.”
Rentals out of reach
Anglicare Australia would like to see policy settings shift to support younger Australians aspiring to home ownership.
“The government has taken an important step by reforming property tax breaks that have favoured accumulated wealth over work. Now we need to build on that progress,” Chambers said.
“One of the clearest places to start is Youth Allowance.
“We have a social security system that literally says a young person needs less money to live on simply because of their age. Our findings show they can’t afford rent on Youth Allowance anywhere in the country.”
The government recently announced a $20.90 increase to the maximum Youth Allowance payment due to indexation, which will reach $1,087.20 in September. However the rate can be much lower depending on your age, living situation and dependents.
Meanwhile, the median weekly unit rent in Australia is just under $700, putting rentals out of reach for Youth Allowance recipients.
“Rent isn’t cheaper when you’re 23. Groceries aren’t cheaper. Electricity isn’t cheaper. Yet young people are expected to survive on the lowest payment in the system,” Chambers added.
The group would also like to see a wealth tax, which could tax assets and reduce the pressure on income-reliant Australians who don’t yet own a home.

Currently, the National Hurricane Center’s vigilant eyes are fixed on a developing weather system off the coast of Africa, which holds potential to evolve into a named storm.
Forecasters from the Miami-based center noted on Wednesday morning that storm-friendly conditions could allow this cluster of thunderstorms, located just south of the Cabo Verde Islands, to escalate into a tropical depression in the coming week.
If it further develops, with maximum sustained winds of at least 39 mph (63 kph), the system would be named Tropical Storm Dolly.

In the wake of a tragic charter plane crash in remote western Alaska, the community mourns the loss of 23-year-old Air Force officer 2nd Lt. Leah R. Borsich. Described as a “positive leader” with a strong sense of purpose, Borsich was among eight victims in the heartbreaking accident last week.
The Air Force officially named 2nd Lt. Borsich on Monday as one of those lost in the crash near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, approximately 450 miles from Anchorage. As a dedicated project programmer with the 611th Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, her roles and responsibilities left a significant mark.
“Lt. Borsich was a beacon of positivity and leadership, infusing great energy and enthusiasm into our command,” stated Col. Timothy Meerstein, who heads the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center, reflecting on her impactful presence.

The Cessna 441 was carrying two pilots and six passengers when it crashed west of Cape Newenham at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday. All eight people aboard were killed.
The charter plane had taken off from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and was headed to Cape Newenham when it crashed during its second approach to the gravel runway in heavy fog, according to federal officials.
The pilots could not see the runway and were flying by instruments, Clint Johnson, the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska region chief, said Friday. They aborted their first landing attempt because of poor visibility before crashing on the second approach.
An observation system near the airport reported fog and visibility of about 10 miles shortly before the crash. About 15 minutes later, visibility had fallen to less than a quarter-mile, according to the National Weather Service.
Search teams later found fragmented wreckage from the twin-engine plane, also known as a Cessna Conquest.

The Air Force said an Army member, contractors and crew members with Anchorage-based airplane charter company Security Aviation were also among those killed.
“We also mourn the loss of our Army and contractor teammates and extend our deepest appreciation to the Security Aviation aircrew, whose professionalism and dedication are vital to our mission,” Meerstein said. “Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
Security Aviation, which operated the flight, said it was “heartbroken” by the crash.
“Our hearts go out to the families, friends and loved ones of those who were lost,” the company said in a statement posted to Facebook. “We extend our deepest condolences to them and to everyone affected by this devastating tragedy.”
Security Aviation thanked the military, Alaska Rescue Coordination Center and search-and-recovery teams that responded after the crash. The company said it is cooperating with the investigation and would not speculate about the cause.
“Our focus at this time is on those who are grieving and on supporting our employees and others affected by this tremendous loss,” the company said.
In addition to the pilots, those aboard included two U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees and four contractors. Two of the contractors worked for Calista Brice, which provides construction, engineering, logistics and other services in remote areas.
The Army Corps said its employees were part of a “project delivery team en route to a project site in support of the U.S. Air Force.” Officials have not said what work the group was traveling to perform.
Cape Newenham is part of a network of remote radar sites that monitors aircraft operating in Alaska’s airspace and along its borders. The site, built in the 1950s as part of an early-warning network against a potential Soviet attack, now monitors the skies off Alaska’s coast in the direction of Russia, North Korea and China.
Borsich’s name was released after her family had been notified. The Alaska State Troopers will release the names of the victims who were not affiliated with the Department of War, the Air Force said.

Lt. Gen. Robert Davis, who leads Alaskan Command, the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region and Eleventh Air Force, previously described those aboard as “dedicated professionals carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment.”
“This is a devastating loss for our military family and the communities we serve,” Davis said after the crash.
A tragic collision claimed the lives of a former Long Island lacrosse standout and a medical supplies executive when the teenager’s car mistakenly swerved into an oncoming lane in the Hudson Valley.
New York State Troopers reported that 19-year-old Peter B. Bonenfant and 72-year-old Philip F. Jacobus both lost their lives following a pre-dawn crash on Sunday. This unfortunate incident occurred on Route 28 in the Town of Olive, in Ulster County, just outside Kingston.
Bonenfant was behind the wheel of a 2024 Chevrolet traveling west when he unexpectedly crossed into the eastbound lane, leading to a collision with Jacobus’ 2021 Mercedes-Benz shortly before 6:50 a.m.
Emergency responders were quick to arrive, extricating both drivers from their vehicles. They were rushed to the HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, where Bonenfant succumbed to his injuries.
Jacobus, meanwhile, was transferred to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, located southeast of Kingston across the Hudson River, where, unfortunately, he too passed away, according to police reports.
Officials have launched an investigation and have not shared a reason for Bonenfant crossing into oncoming traffic.
Jacobus, a Kingston resident, was the founder and President of Owen Kane Holdings, a Wall Street-based medical equipment supplier.
He created and served as CEO of DOTmed, the “world’s leading public medical equipment marketplace.”
Jacobus, who had been in the medical industry since the 1970s, founded both companies in 1999 after working in both the People’s Republic of China and the Soviet Union, according to his biography.
Bonenfant, a 2025 Smithtown West graduate on Long Island, had committed to playing Division I lacrosse at Queens University of Charlotte.
Before the 2025 fall semester, Bonenfant decided against heading to North Carolina, instead choosing to stay closer to home and study to be an electrician, Newsday reported.
The teen was the adoptive son of Chris Bonenfant, a retired Suffolk County and NYPD officer, according to the outlet.
He was remembered for his bright personality and positive attitude.
“Peter Bonefant was only 19 years old, but in his short life, he had already made the kind of impression on people that lasts forever,” a GoFundMe set up for his family read. “He was the sort of person who could walk into a room and bring energy with him.
“Peter had a way of making people feel comfortable, welcome, and valued. To the people who knew him best, he was not simply a friend, a son, a brother, or a loved one—he was someone who made life brighter just by being part of it,” the memorial said.
Bonenfant was known for his love of cars as he featured several different vehicles he enjoyed working on across his social media accounts.
“Peter deserved more time. He deserved the chance to grow older, experience more of life, build more memories, and continue being there for the people he loved,” the GoFundMe read. “While we cannot change what happened, we can make sure that his memory is honored with the love and respect he deserves.”

Larry Gelbart’s CBS comedy-drama about a mobile surgical hospital during the Korean War is ostensibly a sitcom, but honestly, that’s not a very good classification given the amount of drama and overall bleakness that the show often focuses on.
The real strength of “M*A*S*H,” which ran for 11 seasons between 1972 and 1983, is its ability to juggle the light and the darkness, so the humor often comes across as the kind of coping mechanism that medical professionals at wartime might very well rely on in real life, too.
As the only “M*A*S*H” character to appear in every episode, Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda) is a prime example of such antics; While he’s a main character in a comedic show, in many ways he delivers a more realistic image of a military person dealing with an unfathomable situation than any “SEAL Team” character could ever hope to. As the 72 out of 100 Metacritic Metascore of “M*A*S*H” attests, the sheer quality of this long-running TV milestone has endured with generations of critics.

Another miniseries, John Shiban and John Orloff’s 2024 Apple TV bomber plane drama “Masters of the Air” offers an uncommon look into the horrors of World War II. Here, the U.S. Air Force 100th Bomb Group undertakes difficult missions deep into Germany, risking life and limb with every mile that they pilot their Flying Fortresses into enemy territory.
A companion piece to fellow military miniseries “Band of Brothers” (more on that one later) and “The Pacific,” the aviation-themed war show has a very decent Metascore of 72 out of 100, indicating a very entertaining watch. As with the aforementioned shows, “Masters of the Air” goes hard on both intensity and personal relationships. Since the show is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Donald L. Miller, many of the characters are based on real-life people, played by an all-star cast that features the likes of Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan, Callum Turner, and Ncuti Gatwa.
Strike Back

Out of all the shows on this list, “Strike Back” is the one that resembles “SEAL Team” the most, in that it’s an action drama that focuses on a small special unit that performs clandestine tasks on a global scale. Based on the book by former SAS operative Chris Ryan, the show’s centerpiece is a British military intelligence unit known as Section 20. Not unlike the “SEAL Team” characters, Section 20 is tasked with assorted dangerous and secretive missions in crisis points all around the world, with all the drama and action that accompanies such situations.
With eight seasons to watch spanning 2010 to 2020, “Strike Back” is also the closest comparison point to “SEAL Team” here in terms of sheer tenure. Granted, with just 10 episodes in an average season, the length of the seasons is quite a bit shorter, but there’s still plenty for a fan of the genre to enjoy — and a 71 out of 100 Metacritic score confirms that the show is worth your time.
Band of Brothers

When masterful military series are discussed, it would be a borderline crime to not include the best war TV show ever made: “Band of Brothers.” Co-created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, the 2001 HBO miniseries about the missions, victories, and tragedies of Easy Company during World War II is notable for its meticulous portrayal of the company’s path from training to deployment — and ultimately, playing a part in winning the conflict.
Based on Stephen E. Ambrose’s book of the same name, the “Band of Brothers” timeline is rife with detail, and many of its characters are based on real historical figures who fought in Easy Company or otherwise interacted with it. This touch of realism helps the viewer grow to care about these characters as they march toward their fate — or intensely dislike them, as “Friends” star David Schwimmer’s skilled turn as the profoundly unlikable Captain Herbert Sobel shows.
With a score of 87 out of 100 on Metacritic, “Band of Brothers” is a stellar example of what a military show can do when it has a huge story to tell and lots of space to do so. Being a miniseries, it never wears out its welcome. It does, however, constantly bring the viewer as close to the horrors and camaraderie of war as a TV show possibly can. Every military show fan owes it to themselves to watch “Band of Brothers” at least once.

One follower asked: ‘Do you comment on everyone who is concerned about your wife and how sickly she looks? She puts herself out there, feed her’
Brooklyn said: ‘Don’t ever talk about my wife. She’s absolutely beautiful and you should never comment on a woman’s body. It’s disgraceful’.
His followers told him the mince meat should be drained properly and needed to be cooled before the potato was added, while others said he needed to add a good sprinkling of cheese on top.
Fans wrote in the comments: ‘Mate this isn’t criticism it’s advice. The reason it’s sunk is because you need to wait for the mince to completely cool down before putting on your potato. Still a lovely dish though’;

The clip, which was originally shared last year, was reposted to TikTok, as the aspiring chef took the opportunity to promote his hot sauce Cloud 23 as he whipped up a tomato pasta dish.
But the eldest Beckham son immediately caused controversy as he dipped his saucepan in the sea to collect salty water to boil the pasta.

It seems Brooklyn was trying to trump his estranged dad David who also has a passion for cooking and even completed a culinary course during his spell at AC Milan.
Sir David told The Times in 2013: ‘Funnily enough, when I lived in Italy, I took a six-month culinary course at a professional chef’s school and learnt to make real ragu and fresh pasta.
‘I used to go there three times a week… I was obsessed with perfecting the risotto because it is difficult.’
Fans were left less than impressed by Brooklyn’s kitchen antics as they took to the comments, joking: ‘Pasta water with a hint of burnt boat fuel please sir’; ‘Bit dodgy the water’.

It comes after reports Brooklyn and Nicola will reportedly no longer celebrate their first wedding due to the ‘bad memories it holds’.
Sources close to the couple have claimed their April 2022 wedding, that was attended by his family, is not an ‘occasion they look back on fondly’.
The couple officially tied the knot at a three-day extravaganza at the Peltz family Palm Beach estate in April 2022 in front of 500 guests.
They later renewed their vows in August last year – and pointedly did not invite the Beckham family.
In another swipe at his estranged parents, Brooklyn and Nicola will now see their secret second wedding as their ‘official’ anniversary.
Brooklyn failed to post a tribute to Nicola on their original anniversary this April, while Nicola has never marked the celebration.
Pointedly, the pair both marked their new anniversary in an Instagram post.
A source said: ‘Brooklyn and Nicola’s first wedding in April 2022 is not an occasion they look back on fondly. Nicola ended up in tears. It’s not something they want to be reminded of.
‘Their second wedding, where they renewed their vows last August with just her family and their friends, does hold so many happy memories however.
‘Going forwards, they’ve decided that this is the date they will celebrate publicly together,’ they added to The Sun.
The Daily Mail has approached Nicola, Brooklyn and the Beckhams for comment.
In Brooklyn’s scathing bombshell statement earlier this year, the eldest Beckham son explained that he and Nicola hosted a vow renewal without his family, as they wanted to ‘create new memories that bring us joy and happiness’ after Victoria ruined their wedding.
In his statement in January, Brooklyn detailed the ‘anxiety and embarrassment’ he felt when Victoria hijacked their first dance and called him ‘evil’ when she wasn’t seated at his table.
He wrote: ‘During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me ”evil” because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands.
‘Both of our parents had their own tables equally adjacent to ours. The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was “not blood” and “not family.”
‘My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song.
