Kickstart the journey to a robust and stable lower body by incorporating these expert-endorsed bed exercises into your routine.

>

Engaging in exercises on your bed can be a fantastic solution for those experiencing limited mobility or stiffness. These exercises offer numerous advantages, such as enhancing muscle strength, boosting circulation, and providing a thorough stretch for your joints. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or just beginning your fitness journey, bed-based workouts can be an effective and accessible option to get you on the right track.

As we age, it becomes increasingly important to focus on strengthening the thighs. These muscles play a vital role in activities such as walking, maintaining balance, and transitioning from sitting to standing.

To provide guidance, we reached out to Meera Watts, Founder and CEO of Siddhi Yoga. She specializes in empowering individuals to build strength without the necessity of a comprehensive gym setup.

“Bed exercises provide a gentle yet effective way to strengthen the thighs while honing control and body awareness—especially beneficial for those over 60,” Meera explains. “These exercises are not mere watered-down versions of gym routines. They serve as an excellent beginning for anyone focused on regaining strength, recovering from periods of inactivity, or cautiously reintroducing movement. The objective is to foster strength while honoring your current physical state.”

Here with five bed exercises that can restore thigh strength faster than squats after 60. Together, these moves work the front, back, inner, and outer thigh muscles while training flexibility and control.

Reclined Leg Flex And Extend

“The slow stretch works the quadriceps and takes the knee through a useful range of motion. You don’t even have to get out of your bed,” Watts says.

  1. Lie flat on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the mattress.
  2. Brace your core.
  3. Lift your right leg off the mattress and bring that knee in toward your chest.
  4. Slowly extend your right leg, reaching that heel away from your body.
  5. Bring it back in.
  6. Repeat with your left leg.

Tragedy Unfolds: Family Dinner Turns Into Devastating Murder-Suicide with 8 Lives Lost

0

A heart-wrenching tragedy struck a Montana community when a man took the lives of eight family members, including four children, before setting their house ablaze, according to a family member and authorities.

Yellowstone County Sheriff Kent O’Donnell, in an emotional address during an Aug. 26 press conference, remarked, “This is beyond a tragedy. It’s a devastation so deep that words can scarcely capture it. The family has been shattered in a way that might be irreparable.”

Identified suspect Alan Michael Smith reportedly ended his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sheriff O’Donnell acknowledged the incident, firmly stating, “Remember this only once, as I refuse to speak this name again.”

The nightmarish events unfolded on Aug. 23, as a gathering at a residence on White Star Circle was underway. A multi-generational family had come together for dinner, spanning four generations under one roof.

At approximately 6 p.m., an urgent 911 call was made from inside the house, relaying acute distress and indicating injuries among those present.

When police officers arrived, Alan was in the front yard and was confronted before he retreated into the home.

“At the same time, there was smoke coming from the house [and] more gunshots could be heard in the house,” said O’Donnell. “The suspect fled out the back of the house into the backyard and took his own life.”

Firefighters fought the blaze until 1 a.m., Billings Fire Department Chief Matt Hoppel said, according to NBC News.

The victims included Alan’s younger sister Megan Ghekiere, her children Owen Ireland, 13, and Chloe Ireland, 7, along with Megan’s stepchildren Landon Ghekiere, 15, and Charlotte Ghekiere, 12, Megan’s ex-husband Brad Ireland told the Associated Press.

Alan’s parents, Dana and Barb Smith, and his grandmother, Evelyn Smith, also died.

Alan was described as a “hermit” by Brad, noting the 44-year-old spent a lot of time in his bedroom on his computer until his parents asked him to move out weeks earlier.

“No one knew what he did in there 24/7,” Brad told the AP. “There were many red flags and many people spoke out. No one listened.”

For Megan’s husband Adam Ghekiere, the family dinner came as a surprise, especially as those gatherings are often reserved for Fridays.

“I don’t think he expected my kids to be there,” Adam told the AP. “‘Monster isn’t even enough to describe what he did.”

Police did not confirm who made the 911 call, but according to family and friends, it was Adam’s daughter Charlotte.

“The one thing we do know is that Charlotte was the hero,” neighbor Jennifer Mercer told the AP. “She tried to save her family. And that’s something the family does want out there.”

Deadly Seattle Festival Shooting: Chilling 911 Call Released

0

Recently released 911 calls provide new insights into the tragic shooting that unfolded at Seattle’s renowned Bite of Seattle festival. These recordings reveal the dramatic efforts of emergency responders as they hurried to assist multiple victims at the scene.

One distressed caller, who reported being shot in the back, could be heard urgently telling the dispatcher, “I’m losing blood.”

The individual on the line admitted uncertainty about the identity of the shooter.

The caller continued, “I don’t know who did it. I took cover. I see the officers down here,” emphasizing their lack of clarity amidst the chaos.

The dispatcher tried to keep the wounded person calm as help was sent toward the water fountain where the caller was believed to be waiting.

“It’s okay. Just breathe. Breathe with me. I’m going to stay with you,” the dispatcher said.

Moments later, the caller said they were with an officer.

Other emergency transmissions capture dispatchers and first responders working to assess the scope of the unfolding violence near the Seattle Center Armory.

“Multiple people down at this point,” one dispatcher said when asked whether anyone had been shot.

As reports continued to come in, another dispatcher requested “as many aid units as possible,” saying there were at least two people down — “but more than that.”

Emergency crews initially treated the area as an active scene while officials worked to determine whether it was safe for responders to enter.

“Let’s treat that as an active scene for now,” a dispatcher said.

A dispatcher later said there were “six confirmed gunshot wounds” amid the chaotic response.

The calls come as Seattle police have offered few public updates on the investigation.

Fox 13 Seattle reported that interim Police Chief Andre Sayles said earlier this month that investigators had developed new information and expected to make an arrest, but he declined to disclose details.

“I think the biggest thing is, you know, it’s going to cause a little bit of frustration, is the integrity of this investigation,” Sayles said Aug. 7, according to the outlet. “There’s some information that we have. I want to make sure that we keep the integrity of that investigation close to the vest until we can make the appropriate arrest.”

A 15-year-old suspect remains in custody in connection with the shooting.

The Mayor’s Office said in a statement to the outlet that the administration “continues to work closely with the Seattle Police Department to ensure information about critical events reach the public.”

The shooting erupted last month outside the Seattle Center Armory during the Bite of Seattle food festival, near the Space Needle. Three people were killed and four others were wounded, including a 2-year-old boy, authorities previously said.

The dead included a 19-year-old man and a 44-year-old man who were pronounced dead at the scene. A 56-year-old woman later died after she was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Wilson called the shooting “an act of horrific violence.”

“Impacted families are living through the worst moment of their lives, and an entire community is trying to understand how a gathering built around culture, connection, and joy ended in gunfire,” Wilson said at the time.

“No one should have to weigh the risk of being shot before attending an event, gathering with friends, or experiencing their city,” she added.

Wilson said officials believed a 15-year-old had opened fire into the crowd, though details remained under investigation. The teen was booked into juvenile detention on suspicion of firearms violations and first-degree assault. No homicide charges had been filed as of the most recent update.

Former Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes said investigators believed gunfire was exchanged outside the Armory after a conflict involving small groups believed to be at odds with one another, leaving bystanders caught in the crossfire.

Investigators initially believed two gunmen were involved. But a juvenile-court document later indicated the detained teen and an acquaintance who was found dead at the scene may have exchanged gunfire with at least one other, unidentified suspect.

News Media reached out to the Seattle Police Department and mayor’s office for comment.

Legendary Pop and TV Icon Jaye P. Morgan Passes Away at 94

0

Jaye P. Morgan, a celebrated female recording artist of the 1950s known for dominating the charts, has passed away at the age of 94. Morgan, whose illustrious career began with five hit singles in 1955—including the standout “That’s All I Want From You”—also garnered fame as a frequent guest on talk shows and game shows. Her memorable antics on “The Gong Show,” where she once daringly removed her shirt, further solidified her place in entertainment history.

Morgan died on Monday in Longview, Washington, due to natural causes, her longtime attorney and friend, Mark Sendroff, confirmed. In her later years, she lived with her nephew and niece, Duke Morgan Spencer and Peggy Sue Spencer.

Among Morgan’s most notable chart successes were two Top 10 hits: “That’s All I Want From You” and “The Longest Walk.” She enjoyed additional acclaim with Top 20 hits such as “Danger! Heartbreak Ahead,” “If You Don’t Want My Love,” and “Pepper-Hot Baby.” Collaborations also highlighted her career, with her pairing with Perry Como yielding “Chee Chee-Oo Chee (Sang the Little Bird)” and “Two Lost Souls,” along with a moderate hit, “Mutual Admiration Society,” reaching No. 47 with Eddy Arnold.

In the years that followed, Morgan transitioned to television, becoming a staple guest on “The Tonight Show” and making appearances on shows hosted by Merv Griffin, Dick Cavett, and Mike Douglas, as well as on popular series like “Love Boat” and “Fantasy Island.” However, it was her stint as a celebrity judge on “The Gong Show,” alongside personalities like Jamie Farr and Rip Taylor since 1976, that made her a household name.

On “The Gong Show,” amateur performers would present their acts, enduring the judges’ scrutiny. Once an act became unbearable, a judge would strike a gong to end it. The winning performer of the episode would be awarded a whimsical cash prize of $516.32.

On one episode, Eugene Patton — the dancing stagehand performing as Gene Gene the Dancing Machine — started his thing when Morgan opened her shirt to expose her breasts, helping bring an end to the show’s run on NBC in 1978.

“It paid good money, and it was great exposure. I really enjoyed it,” she told the Los Angeles Times in 1992.

“Jaye P. Morgan’s devil-may-care ad libs on television game shows have probably made her more famous as a personality than as a singer,” The New York Times wrote in 1984. “But the same kooky recklessness that inspires Miss Morgan’s remarks is also a part of her musical sensibility.”

Her film credits include “The All-American Boy” with Jon Voight, “Loose Shoes,” “The Gong Show Movie,” “Night Patrol” and the 2002 Miramax release “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” directed by George Clooney.

Jaye P. Morgan’s early life

Morgan was born Mary Margaret Morgan in a log cabin in Mancos, Colorado, and her show business career started early. At the age of 3, she was part of the Morgan Family, a traveling vaudeville act that included her mother, her father, her sister and five brothers. The group disbanded after their father’s death in 1945.

Morgan was class treasurer of her California high school and her peers nicknamed her J.P. after the 19th century financier J.P. Morgan. She later feminized it by changing the initial J to Jaye.

But by the time she was 17, she was singing professionally again, and in 1950 she joined Frank De Vol’s orchestra, singing with it for three years.

Her recording career got underway via “Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries” and “Just a Gigolo” with De Vol on a small label, Derby Records, that reached No. 26 on the Billboard chart. That led RCA Records to come calling with a recording contract.

She was a regular on the Robert Q. Lewis national daytime variety TV show and the nighttime game show “Stop the Music” hosted by Bert Parks. In 1954, DownBeat magazine’s annual DJ poll crowned her best new female singer of the year. She took her nightclub act on the road and made her Las Vegas debut at the New Frontier Hotel & Casino.

Morgan’s onscreen career

Morgan even got her own TV show in 1956 — “The Jaye P. Morgan Show,” which featured four of her brothers. Her solo albums include “Jaye P. Morgan” — produced by Davis Foster — “Jay P. Morgan Lately!” and a joint album with Kaye Ballard called “Long Time Friends.”

An appearance on “The Tonight Show” opened up a career for her on television talk shows and she kept returning to Johnny Carson for five years. “I take my body everyplace I go,” she joked to the host in a 1972 episode. She also was a guest on “The Odd Couple” playing herself and singing their goofy song “Happy, Peppy and Bursting with Love.”

During one memorable episode of “The Muppet Show,” Morgan appeared in a bird costume and seemed unhappy she was there at all. When Kermit tells her it’s a thrill to have her on, she replies: “I’m really indifferent about being here.” Kermit is aghast, calling the opening number cute. “I hate cute,” replies Morgan.

Other Morgan credits include a role in “Home Alone 2,” with Macaulay Culkin, appearances on “Love Boat” and “Fantasy Island,” and co-starring with Eddie Bracken in the national tour of “Sugar Babies.”

Married and divorced three times, Morgan is survived by a son, Paul Kane.

Melissa Joan Hart Shares Updates on Ongoing Earnings from Iconic ’80s Film

0

In a recent interview, Melissa Joan Hart unveiled the unexpected earnings she continues to receive from a beloved 1980s movie, despite not making it into the final cut. The revelation about her ongoing earnings from this classic film comes as quite a surprise.

At 50, Hart disclosed on Wednesday that she still consistently receives residual payments from the 1986 blockbuster, “Crocodile Dundee.” Remarkably, she filmed her scenes at the tender age of 10, yet her footage was ultimately left on the cutting room floor of this hit Australian movie.

‘I was in Crocodile Dundee, and even though you will not see my face in it – I was cut out – I still get my 26 cents every few months or something,’ she admitted while speaking to Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea.

The Daily Mail has sought comments from Hart’s representatives regarding this interesting tidbit, although no response has been provided as of yet.

Despite the enduring success of “Sabrina The Teenage Witch,” Hart admitted that the payments have significantly decreased over the years since “Crocodile Dundee” captivated audiences worldwide. These checks, she noted, have ‘dwindled’ over time, but they still trickle in.

Nevertheless, Hart also highlighted that she and many of her fellow actors have found creative ways to make the most of these modest residual checks, ensuring they remain useful even if they’re not substantial.

‘There’s actually a bar in LA called Residuals where you can take your residuals and put it toward your drinks,’ she shared.

Crocodile Dundee stars Paul Hogan in the title role as an Australian bushman who becomes a fish out of water when he travels to New York City and finds that his Outback survival skills don’t always translate.

The low-budget film went on to gross $328 million, making it the highest-grossing Australian film of all time, both domestically and abroad, and it also became the second-highest grossing film in the US in 1986.

The movie’s success led to another hit sequel, 1988’s Crocodile Dundee II, as well as 2001’s Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, which was a critical and commercial failure.

Hart previously revealed on the Too Much Information podcast that she appeared in Crocodile Dundee as a young girl who skins her knee in Central Park, only for Hogan’s character to unexpectedly heal her.

The actress, who finally broke out when she played the title role in Nickelodeon’s teen sitcom Clarissa Explains It All from 1991 to 1994, spoke about coming to terms with the disappointments of being a professional actor and her experience on Crocodile Dundee while speaking to She Knows in 2011.

‘You find that you have a lot of rejection and you learn young that you have to let it go, and if you don’t have thick skin, you aren’t going to make it,’ Hart said.

She spent her early career as a child actor appearing in commercials, and she suffered another disappointment in 1988 when she lost out on the lead role in Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers.

Hart went on to establish herself in TV after her early attempts at launching a film career.

After her early success in Clarissa Explains It All, she scored her biggest role to date with the 1996 TV movie Sabrina the Teenage Witch, the success of which led to an identically titled teen sitcom.

The show aired for four seasons on ABC, before transferring to The WB for its final three seasons, until its cancellation in 2003.

Hart later returned to a lead series role opposite Joey Lawrence on ABC Family’s Melissa & Joey, which aired four seasons from 2010 to 2015.

Hart’s newest project is the reality competition series Totally ’90s House, in which she joins a group of other stars of the 1990s, including her Melissa & Joey costar Lawrence, his brother Matthew Lawrence, Full House star Jodie Sweetin, The Cosby Show’s Keshia Knight Pulliam, Brian Austin Green of Beverly Hills, 90210 fame, and 7th Heaven star Beverley Mitchell.

Jaleel White, best known for playing Steve Urkel on Family Matters, hosts the series, which pits the contestants against each other as they attempt to renovate a house that hasn’t been updated since the ’90s.

Totally ’90s House makes its debut on Wednesday night at 9pm ET on HGTV.

Florida Man Arrested for Brutal Animal Cruelty Incident

0

HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – A troubling incident unfolded in High Springs as Nicholas Matthew Alex, aged 46, found himself in handcuffs for allegedly assaulting a dog.

On the morning of August 25, around 9:30 a.m., officers from the High Springs Police Department were dispatched to NW 184th Place’s 23700 block. A concerned woman reported witnessing a man relentlessly beating a dog while driving on NW 237th Street. After she intervened and asked him to cease, he allegedly turned his aggression towards her.

Both the woman and another eyewitness reported observing the man harshly grabbing the dog by its leash and delivering powerful kicks.

Alex purportedly confessed to punching the dog, defending his actions with a claim that he was attempting to “remove the dog from the roadway.”

Facing charges of felony animal cruelty, Alex’s legal troubles are not unfamiliar; his criminal record includes eight non-violent felony convictions along with five misdemeanors, one of which involved violence. In his recent court appearance, Judge Meshon Rawls granted his release on his recognizance with the stipulation that he refrain from owning any animals.

Unlicensed Miami Surgeon Evades Trial for Botched Surgeries

0

In an unexpected twist, a Brazilian man facing serious legal accusations in Miami has vanished just days before his trial. Authorities allege that Joao Batista Cunha De Araujo, accused of executing unauthorized plastic surgeries, disappeared amid a slew of charges related to theft, fraud, and practicing medicine without a license.

Araujo, 57, who has been pejoratively nicknamed “Dr. Frankenstein” by detractors, is charged with 14 counts, including 13 felonies within Miami-Dade County. His arrest followed a covert operation prompted by anonymous tips, where an undercover officer, posing as a patient, sought a consultation for chin liposuction and allegedly received a quote for the surgery.

Following his arrest, Araujo complied with a court order to surrender his passport and was equipped with an ankle monitor. Despite these precautions, he has since slipped off the radar, leaving authorities baffled.

Local law enforcement is redirecting inquiries about Araujo’s disappearance to the U.S. Marshals and the Brazilian government. At the time of reporting, neither entity had provided a comment on the situation.

According to court documents, Araujo’s ankle monitor “generated a tamper alert” on Saturday, Aug. 1 — three days before the scheduled beginning of his trial.

A man resembling Araujo appeared in a video posted to his wife’s Instagram story Wednesday morning. Amanda Ungaro, a co-defendant in the criminal case, had previously been deported from the U.S. It was not immediately clear when or where the video had been taken. (Amanda Ungaro/Instagram)

Two officers responded to his last known location in a high-rise on the Bay Harbor Islands, just north of Miami Beach. They were unable to locate Araujo or the ankle monitor, and his house arrest was revoked and a Miami judge issued a new arrest warrant and authorized full extradition.

Authorities allege this still image taken from an Instagram video linked to Araujo shows him performing a laser face-lifting process. They used the watch and bracelets pictured on his left wrist to link him to other photos where the surgeon’s face is not shown. (Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office)

Araujo’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, told News Media he was still looking at discovery in the case and that the trial date likely would have been pushed back.

“My client previously entered a plea of not guilty to the charges, and I was prepared to vigorously challenge the allegations brought by the prosecution,” he said. “For reasons unknown to me, he has chosen to make himself unavailable to continue fighting for his innocence. If he ever reappears, I will continue to fight zealously on his behalf.”

According to a New York Post report citing four sources close to the case, Araujo is believed to have left the country for his native Brazil — raising questions about how he did so after turning in his passport.

Araujo’s wife and co-defendant Amanda Soares Felizardo Ungaro, 41, posted a video Wednesday that appears to show her husband smiling and sitting across from her at a restaurant table. It was not immediately clear when or where it was taken.

She faced seven charges in connection with the case against her husband and was deported earlier this year. She did not immediately respond to a message from News Media.

Araujo had previously asked the court to allow him to return to his home country while awaiting trial — a request Judge Tanya Brinkley denied amid concerns that he would not be able to return to Florida, court documents reveal.

According to a police affidavit, the Florida Department of Health confirmed that neither Araujo or Ungaro had any kind of medical license in the state.

49ers Owner Jed York’s Prostitution Arrest: Video Unveils Shocking Embarrassments

0

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York faced a public embarrassment recently, with every second of his arrest video stirring up discomfort. Yet, among the entire footage, a few segments stand out as particularly excruciating.

Here are the five moments from the 45-year-old’s August 23 incident at an East Palestine, Ohio, trailer park that are especially mortifying.

5. LYING ABOUT PROFESSION

York avoided mentioning any connection to the 49ers when he was handcuffed over allegations of solicitation, opting instead to offer officers a glimpse into his unusual line of work.

The video reveals an officer seemingly recounting York’s claim that he worked as “a real estate guy.”

4. WAD OF CASH

Following his detainment, York sat in the back of a police car as two officers conducted a search of his rented Volkswagen SUV.

They discovered York had hundreds of dollars of cash in the ride — all in $20 bills.

There was so much money, one cop said at the scene, “He’s got a s—t ton of cash.”

Another officer wondered why York was in the position given all of his apparent funds.

“It’s crazy the people that do this,” the cop said. “They could do whatever they want. They could do other things. They could go other ways. It’s wild.”

3. STUNNED LOOK ON HIS FACE

If York’s mug shot doesn’t live in infamy following his arrest, the image of his face when he was being yanked out of his car by police certainly will.

York looked bewildered as a cop unbuckled him from his seat and moved him to the side of the car.

Moments later, York was heard feebly asking cops, “Can I ask what you’re doing?”

2. YANKEES SHIRT

York’s outfit — which included basketball shorts and running shoes — was not exactly the most flattering, but the New York Yankees T-shirt he was donning will certainly grab its share of headlines.

It seemed to be a bit small, and as the owner of the Bay Area’s NFL team, it will no doubt upset plenty of San Francisco Giants fans.

1. WEDDING RING

Despite filing for divorce from his wife, Danielle Belluomini, in May, York was nonetheless still wearing a wedding ring.

Throughout the arrest video, the black band on his left ring finger was apparent, even though he wrote in his divorce filing that he and Belluomini — who wed in June 2011 — had sustained “irreconcilable differences.”
