Austin ICE Shooting: Democrat Demands Bodycam Video, Independent Probe

0

A Democratic lawmaker is seeking answers after alleging that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot a person during an operation Sunday morning in Austin, Texas.

Austin officials said they will discuss what the city called an “Immigration and Customs Enforcement shooting” at a 4 p.m. news conference Sunday at Austin City Hall. Mayor Kirk Watson, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis and Austin-Travis County EMS Chief Robert Luckritz are expected to provide updates on the incident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to FOX 7 Austin that ICE was conducting an investigation in the 7000 block of West Anderson Lane. However, the agency did not confirm whether anyone had been shot or injured.

“ICE investigation confirmed in the 7000 block of West Anderson, ICE is handling investigation,” a DPS public information officer told the outlet.

Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, said on X that “ICE has shot a person in Austin this morning.” He urged officials to launch a thorough independent investigation and release body-camera video without delay.

“Over and over, ICE has shot people and then lied about what happened,” Casar wrote. “We will demand truth, transparency and accountability.”

Officials have not provided additional details about the reported shooting.

The Austin incident unfolded as federal immigration enforcement operations continue to fuel political debate and public tensions nationwide.

Protests also turned confrontational outside New Jersey’s Delaney Hall immigration detention center in May, after demonstrators refused a state police order to move to an assigned protest zone. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka later condemned the methods used by state troopers deployed to protect the facility, which had become a regular site of demonstrations.

Federal immigration actions faced further national scrutiny in Minnesota after the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Authorities said an ICE agent killed Good in early January after she attempted to drive her vehicle into federal officers. Pretti was fatally shot by agents on Jan. 24 while he was recording federal officers, according to reports.

The Austin Police Department directed News Media to ICE for additional information.

News Media contacted ICE and the Texas Department of Public Safety seeking further details and comment.

Pentagon Insiders Sound Off on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s Wife

0

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s wife has remained a constant presence as he leads the Department of War, accompanying him to official functions, meeting President Trump, training alongside Marines and, controversially, attending sensitive high-level discussions.

Now, as military whistleblowers issue an “urgent SOS” over what they describe as an increasingly embattled Hegseth, 46, and accuse him of treating the Defense Department like a personal fiefdom, Jennifer Hegseth is also facing scrutiny.

Jennifer’s unusually influential—though unofficial—role at the Pentagon has reportedly unsettled staff. Some Department of Defense employees have privately likened the 49-year-old to “Yoko Ono,” according to the Daily Mail.

“Now there’s a woman with an extremely tight leash on the man she married,” one source told the publication.

Jennifer, however, appears undeterred. Her continued visibility comes as military personnel have criticized her husband as one of the least qualified and most volatile defense secretaries in U.S. history.

After initially taking a less prominent role in her husband’s public life, Jennifer—formerly known as Jennifer Rauchet during her years as a Fox News producer—now appears to be stepping further into the spotlight.

She frequently posts on social media about life as a Pentagon spouse, including her attendance at a D-Day commemoration in France, where she honored fallen service members, and a garden party in Virginia for military mothers.

Last month, the White House announced that Jennifer would become chairwoman of the first Presidential Military Spouse Commission. During the Oval Office announcement, she stood only inches from Trump while Hegseth kissed her cheek.

Jennifer Hegseth’s Presence Raises Concerns

“Every time [Hegseth] travels around to the troops, he tells them that the president has [their] back. And now the families know that you have their back, too, and we are grateful,” she told Trump.

Away from the cameras, though, Jennifer’s involvement has prompted questions inside and outside the Pentagon.

Concern grew last year after reports that she had accompanied Hegseth to closed-door meetings with foreign defense officials, including a NATO headquarters discussion in Brussels involving Ukraine and his international counterparts.

Sources said at the time that Jennifer was seen taking notes and photographs during some of the meetings.

Reports later indicated that she had also been included in a sensitive Signal chat concerning U.S. military operations during a strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen, despite having no official position at the Pentagon.

Jennifer was also reportedly involved in efforts to keep reporters out of the Pentagon, part of a series of decisions critics say reduced transparency at the department.

Other insiders have compared her to Yoko Ono, the wife of late Beatles musician John Lennon, who was widely viewed as fiercely protective of her husband and closely involved in managing his public image.

Some sources have suggested that Jennifer’s close oversight stems from an effort to protect Hegseth from trouble amid his history of drinking and repeated allegations of alcohol abuse. Hegseth has denied that he has a drinking problem.

“She’s like his parole officer and PR agent all at once,” a source previously told the Daily Mail.

Pentagon Defends Jennifer Hegseth’s Growing Role

The couple often praise each other on social media and highlight their family life. They met in 2016 while working at Fox News, when both were married to other people.

They married in 2019 at one of Trump’s country clubs. Their daughter, Gwen, attended the ceremony alongside six children from their previous marriages.

After Hegseth took over at the Pentagon, a source said Jennifer had at least once asked the Defense Department’s public affairs team to include more information about his family values and military background in official news releases.

In response to the ongoing scrutiny, Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell described Hegseth’s wife as ‘an accomplished leader in her own right and a devoted military spouse.’

‘She is a vital asset and a true force multiplier for our mission,’ he said in a statement.

‘Because of her exceptional capability and the profound impact of her work, the Department of War not only welcomes her current leadership but actively plans to involve her even more deeply in the future. She is simply that valuable to our community and our nation.’

Pentagon Insiders Describe Chaos Under Hegseth

Now, her apparent role in shaping the narrative about his public image may be in overdrive after multiple Pentagon staffers opted to blow the whistle about the disarray and discontentment engulfing the department under Hegseth’s reign.

‘People should know what a mess it is,’ one Army officer told the Daily Mail. ‘Things have gone from bad to worse. It’s unbelievably chaotic and demoralizing.’

Behind the scenes, insiders say the mockery of Hegseth is widespread.

He is reportedly called ‘Whiskey Pete’ and ‘Colonel Vodka’ behind his back, both nods to reported drinking concerns, which he has denied.

Another nickname making the rounds is ‘No Tab Pete’ – a jab at his lack of elite combat insignia compared to the decorated leaders he has fired since taking charge.

The Pentagon’s spokesman, for his part, routinely brands the unflattering coverage of Hegseth – including this article – as ‘fake news.’

Father Calls Toxicology Results in Four Children’s Deaths Sickening

0

The father of four children killed in a murder-suicide involving their mother and grandmother has described the toxicology findings as “sickening.”

Brady Harmon lost his children — Harper, 13; Hudson, 11; and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon — on June 10. Investigators say his former wife, Sarah Myers, and her mother, Amy Steadman, carried out the deadly attack in Mechanicville, New York.

According to investigators, Myers, 44, and Steadman, 64, gave the children drugs and repeatedly stabbed Gavin before both women died by suicide.

The toxicology report found that diphenhydramine, an over-the-counter medication, “was present at fatal or lethal levels in all six individuals,” the Mechanicville Police Department said.

Police also reported that mitragynine — the primary compound in kratom — and Benadryl were detected in four of the six victims.

Harmon posted the report on Facebook, sharing his grief and anger after learning more about how his children died.

“The pain is still as raw as if it happened yesterday. Reading today’s official toxicology findings makes it even more sickening to understand what was done to them,” he wrote.

The devastated father continued: “I will never understand how two people who claimed to love and care about these children could deliberately cause them such unimaginable harm.”

Brady Harmon, the father who lost his four young children in a horrific murder-suicide orchestrated by their mother and grandmother, said it was 'sickening' to hear the toxicology results in their deaths

He posted the Mechanicville Police Department’s report on Facebook and condemned his former wife and mother-in-law over the deaths of his children

“Harper, Hudson, Gavin, and Gracelynn were innocent. They deserved to feel safe. They deserved to grow up, chase their dreams, celebrate birthdays, reach milestones, and live the lives that were stolen from them.”

Harmon’s comments came as he seeks $400 million from New York authorities, claiming that a prolonged pattern of abuse involving his children was permitted to continue despite repeated warning signs.

He has filed a legal notice stating his intention to sue the City of Mechanicville, Ballston Spa Central School District, Mechanicville City School District, Saratoga County, and the Mechanicville Housing Authority. The notice alleges that the organizations failed to protect his children, NEWS10 reported.

The 17-page filing claims the deaths followed years of disturbing conduct that law enforcement should have recognized or stopped.

It also alleges that Myers and Steadman suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a form of abuse in which a caregiver fabricates, exaggerates, or deliberately causes illness in someone under their care.

Harmon alleges that the two women regularly gave the children substances including melatonin, Benadryl, and kratom “to control them and to make them sick,” according to the notice.

One of the most serious incidents allegedly occurred in May 2024, when all four children became ill while they were attending the Mechanicville City School District, the filing says.

Three children were taken to Albany Medical Center with symptoms consistent with an opiate overdose. Gracelynn was reportedly in such serious condition that she needed Narcan, a medication used to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.

Myers, 44, and Steadman, 64, piled the children (pictured) with drugs and repeatedly stabbed Gavin before taking their own lives, according to investigators

Investigators say Myers, 44, and Steadman, 64, gave the children drugs and repeatedly stabbed Gavin before taking their own lives

According to the filing, Sarah, the children’s mother, attributed the episode to Benadryl.

The hospital contacted Child Protective Services, but Brady’s attorneys argue the incident should have led to the children being removed from their mother’s care or, at minimum, ‘triggered immediate criminal and abuse investigations.’

The filing claims that Gavin suffered particularly severe abuse and was ‘falsely diagnosed with several mental illnesses and put on a psychotropic medication that reduced his ability to fight back.’

Brady also alleges that as his children became chronically absent from school – supposedly because Myers was homeschooling them – agencies withheld information concerning their education, medical treatment and alleged abuse from him ‘in violation of his parental rights and the law.’

He had not seen his children in person since 2019 amid a bitter custody battle, but that was about to change with Brady reaching an agreement for the children to spend the summer with him in Utah from July through September.

‘I sent their flight information. I planned activities based on their interests,’ he wrote to his ex-wife as he prepared for their arrival.

‘I requested their medical records, medications, allergies, doctors’ information, and other documents that were required under the parenting plan. I believed I was preparing to welcome my children home.’

He spoke to them on June 7 and was looking forward to their reunion. Then, on June 10, Sarah sent him a message saying the children were sick.

His notice also accuses his ex-wife (left) and former mother-in-law (right) of suffering from Munchausen syndrome by proxy – a form of abuse in which a caregiver fabricates, exaggerates, or causes illness in somebody under their care

‘The kids have gotten a little stomach bug throwing up is it okay to switch your online visit to tomorrow night at 4 pm your time please?’ she wrote.

When he tried the following day again, his video call went unanswered.

Investigators now believe the children were already dead. The six of them were found deceased on June 23 after a neighbor noticed an unusual number of flies and a smell coming from the Mechanicville apartment and called police.

Authorities also revealed that Sarah and Amy planned how they would kill the children in text messages that same day.

The Mechanicville Housing Authority, which oversaw the family’s apartment complex, is among those named in the notice, while Harmon’s lawyer Nicholas Liakas said the children remained in Myers’ care despite ‘multiple complaints and investigations’ involving CPS.

Brady's lawyer, Nicholas Liakas, said the proposed lawsuit is not solely about obtaining compensation for a grieving father, but about forcing changes designed to prevent another family from suffering a similar catastrophe

Brady’s lawyer, Nicholas Liakas, said the proposed lawsuit is not solely about obtaining compensation for a grieving father, but about forcing changes designed to prevent another family from suffering a similar catastrophe

‘Child Protective Services failed these children,’ Liakas told the New York Post.

‘When the warning signs are there, people need to step up. We can’t wait until a tragedy occurs to say what should have been done before these children are abused.’

Liakas said the proposed lawsuit is not solely about obtaining compensation for a grieving father, but about forcing changes designed to prevent another family from suffering a similar catastrophe.

‘What we’re doing is we’re seeking justice for this family, but we’re also trying to implement institutional change here,’ he said.

Meg Ryan Makes Rare Red Carpet Appearance at Vanity Fair Oscars Party After Oscars 2026

Meg Ryan and her son, Jack Quaid, turned heads during a rare night out together in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood stars made their first joint public appearance in several years at the opening night of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art on Sept. 19, stepping onto the event’s red carpet side by side.

Ryan, 64, and Quaid, 34, appeared relaxed and cheerful as they posed for photographers at the star-studded Los Angeles gathering.

Ryan, who shares Jack with her former husband Dennis Quaid, embraced timeless Hollywood style for the occasion. The City of Angels actress wore a black jacquard midi dress finished with ruffled detailing, completing the look with dark sunglasses and a simple silver cuff bracelet.

Quaid, known for his role in The Boys, chose a charcoal-gray suit layered over a crisp white shirt and patterned black tie. The actor, who married his costar Claudia Doumit in April, also appeared to proudly display his wedding band on his left hand.

New Found Glory Guitarist Chad Gilbert Dies at 45 After Cancer Battle

Chad Gilbert, founding member and lead guitarist of punk rock group New Found Glory, has died aged 45.

His former bandmates confirmed his death in an Instagram statement on Sunday, saying he had passed away earlier that morning.

“On the morning of September 20th, Chad Everett Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep,” they wrote. “He left this world surrounded by friends and family and took his final breaths with his wife and mother by his side, just as he wished.”

The statement continued: “We are devastated and shocked by how quickly he left us, yet so grateful for how peacefully and smoothly he went. The amount of visitors that crowded the hospital lobby at a moment’s notice is a testament to how beloved and cherished Chad was, and always will be.”

“He was a legendary musician, but his favorite accomplishment was being a husband and father. His biggest dreams came true.”

The heartbreaking announcement was shared by Gilbert’s widow, Lisa Cimorelli, alongside bandmates Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, Cyrus Bolooki and current touring guitarist Dan O’Connor. It came just three months after Gilbert made an emotional return to the stage following surgery to remove three brain tumors.

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Lisa; their daughter, Lily; his mother, Jackie; and his brother, Brian, according to the statement.

His wife and bandmates said Gilbert’s “guitar playing, songwriting, humor, and relentless drive” helped shape New Found Glory over almost three decades.

“Through more than a dozen albums, endless tours around the world, and more accolades than we ever could have imagined, Chad challenged all of us to grow as musicians, performers, and human beings,” they wrote.

“While we are devastated to lose him, we are so grateful for the incredible life he lived, the memories we shared, and the brotherhood we had,” they added. “His influence will always be part of New Found Glory and his spirit will be felt on every stage we stand on, with every note we play.”

They ended the tribute with the words: “Rest in peace, Chad. We love you forever ❤️.”

In June of this year, Gilbert fought back tears as he returned to the stage in a wheelchair for his first show in Nashville while battling a rare form of adrenal cancer.

The musician had previously said he was “struggling to control” the movement of his left hand during a February 20 show in Nashville.

Three days later, medics took him to hospital after he began stumbling and falling.

Four years ago, Gilbert revealed that he had been diagnosed with pheochromocytoma, a rare cancer of the adrenal gland.

During his June comeback show, Gilbert became emotional while thanking the medical professionals who had cared for him since his diagnosis.

‘I want to thank all of the nurses and doctors who have kept me alive for the past four years,’ he said.

Hayden Christensen and Ex Rachel Bilson’s 11-Year-Old Daughter Makes Red Carpet Debut

0

Hayden Christensen’s daughter with Rachel Bilson, Briar Rose, made her red-carpet debut at an event with special meaning for her father.

The 11-year-old joined Christensen at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art’s opening night in Los Angeles on Saturday. Father and daughter held hands while posing for photographs together.

Briar Rose dressed for the occasion in a white dress and strappy flats. Christensen, meanwhile, opted for a navy blazer over a gray T-shirt, paired with dark jeans.

The museum was co-founded by filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson. Lucas directed Christensen in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, in which the actor portrayed Anakin Skywalker.

Speaking to E! News on Saturday, Christensen said attending the museum’s opening was particularly meaningful. “This is really special for me. We’re very happy to be here, and it’s a real treat to get to share this with my daughter,” he said.

Briar Rose also reflected on seeing her father take on the iconic role of Darth Vader.

“It was really cool when I saw him up there,” she said.

Bilson and Christensen, both 45, began dating after meeting while working on the 2008 film “Jumper.” They became engaged in February 2009 and welcomed Briar Rose in October 2014.

The couple ultimately ended their relationship for good in September 2017, after nearly a decade together.

In January, the “Hart of Dixie” actress offered a rare update on her co-parenting relationship with her former fiancé, describing it as “great.”

“Ours is like a unique version of it, we get along very well,” Bilson said during an appearance on Kristin Cavallari’s “Let’s Be Honest” podcast. “We do a lot of stuff together. A lot.”

She added that she and Christensen had worked to maintain a peaceful relationship for their daughter. “We have been able to keep it very copacetic and nice for her,” Bilson said.

Bilson acknowledged that making their arrangement work required “a lot” of compromise.

“We weren’t ever married so we figured out our own way, our own path,” she explained.

Bilson also said she has remained close with Christensen’s family.

“And it’s been almost 19 years or something, which is a long time,” she noted.

Converse Pulls Sneaker Ad After Critics Flag Racist Imagery

0

Converse has withdrawn a social media advertisement after critics said its imagery evoked the Ku Klux Klan and the lynching of Black people.

The Instagram image featured K-pop singer Karina in a skirt while holding a pair of Chuck 70 X sneakers. Online critics argued that a white triangular shape formed by the lighting on her skirt resembled a Ku Klux Klan hood. They also said the position of the sneakers made them look like the dangling feet of a lynching victim.

Converse, which is owned by Nike, apologized and confirmed that the advertisement had been removed.

“We’re sorry,” the company said in a statement first issued Friday. “We understand why this image is deeply upsetting and recognize that we got this wrong. We removed it from our channels and are working to remove it everywhere it appeared. This should not have happened and we will do better.”

Converse, which is based in Boston, declined Sunday to provide additional details, including how its advertisements are reviewed before publication and how the campaign received approval.

Karina and her management company, SM Entertainment Group, did not immediately respond to messages sent through their Instagram accounts.

Retailers and major fashion brands have faced repeated backlash in recent years over products and campaigns criticized as racially insensitive.

Last month, Target removed a children’s Halloween costume from its stores after widespread criticism on social media. The retailer apologized for selling an outfit that critics said evoked racist minstrel caricatures.

The Converse advertisement drew immediate condemnation, with some people calling for employees involved in its creation to be fired and urging consumers to boycott the brand. A flood of social media comments questioned how the image had passed the company’s advertising review process. Others defended Converse, saying they did not think the resemblance was intentional.

Lee Merritt, a Texas-based civil rights attorney, wrote on Instagram that Converse’s apology “doesn’t undo what got past legal, marketing and leadership at every step.”

“We keep having this conversation because corporations keep failing the same test,” he wrote. “Do better means catching this before it airs — not after we’re offended.”

Converse was founded in Malden, Massachusetts, in 1908 and is known for its Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker. The shoe debuted in 1917 as a non-skid basketball shoe. In 1934, the company added the signature of Chuck Taylor, a basketball player who promoted the sneaker, according to Converse’s website.

Police Seize 650 Toilet Rolls, Foiling Homecoming Prank Plans

0

After cautioning students to keep homecoming pranks from going too far, an Illinois police department ended up dealing with an unusually large collection of evidence.

Plainfield police seized a huge supply of toilet paper allegedly intended for homes near Plainfield North High School, where residents had reported masked groups carrying out nighttime pranks.

“And yes… 650 rolls. We counted,” the department said.

Police showcased the haul beneath an “Operation Clean Sweep” banner and humorously assigned it a “street value” of $1,708.66. The display followed two nights of increasingly frequent complaints from nearby residents.

“Homecoming is not a free pass to damage someone else’s property or disrupt their quality of life,” the department said in a Facebook post.

According to police, officers handled double-digit service calls involving teenagers on both Monday and Tuesday. The incidents occurred during a two-hour window beginning shortly after 7 p.m. in neighborhoods around the high school.

Residents said homes and vehicles had been covered with toilet paper, eggs, ketchup, detergent pods and other substances. Police reported that groups of 20 to 25 people, often wearing hoodies and ski masks, arrived in several vehicles at once and “cause[d] chaos.”

The reported targets were not necessarily friends or classmates of the participants. Police said some affected homes belonged to families with young children, while others had no children living there.

“At this point, we are seeing property damage and significant cleanup, and residents are understandably frustrated,” the department said.

Police also emphasized that responding to the homecoming incidents was diverting resources from more serious calls.

The department said officers assisted firefighters at a structure fire, supported Illinois State Police, made a DUI arrest and responded to crashes, intoxicated individuals, protection-order violations and a family facing a mental health crisis.

“In short, we DO have better things to do,” police wrote. “So PLEASE, be respectful of your community and let us!”

The department did not disclose where the toilet paper was recovered. It also did not say whether anyone had been arrested or charged over the alleged property damage.

Before homecoming week began, police announced a “zero-tolerance approach,” warning that trespassing, property damage and dangerous conduct could result in criminal charges.

“‘It was just a prank’ doesn’t erase the consequences,” the department cautioned in an earlier message.

Police said they were not trying to eliminate school spirit. Instead, they urged parents to talk with their children before the celebrations and pranks got underway.

“Have fun. Make memories. BUT DO IT WITH RESPECT.”
