Prince William agreed to appear on The Graham Norton Show because he is being pulled into a public battle for attention with Prince Harry, following his estranged brother’s surprise return to the UK, according to a PR expert.

The Prince of Wales’s unprecedented chat-show appearance has been interpreted as a response to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s series of high-profile media engagements, which began with their controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey more than five years ago.

PR adviser Mark Borkowski told the Daily Mail that William appears to be breaking with decades of royal tradition in an apparent response to Harry and Meghan’s dominance of headlines since their dramatic return to Britain two months ago.

Borkowski said William’s appearance on the BBC One programme, officially intended to promote the Earthshot Prize, revealed “just how angry he is about his brother”.

“When the late Queen was alive, she maintained the Royal mystique by staying above all this kind of stuff, just releasing the odd cleverly worded statement here and there,” Borkowski said. He argued that approach had now changed, adding: “It looks petulant, it looks like sibling rivalry, Cain and Abel.”

The PR specialist, who has spent decades advising major brands and high-profile figures, said William risked making “a mistake” by engaging on the same terms as his brother.

“It’s playing Harry at his own game and the Royals should be above that—it’s a misstep,” he said.

“As soon as you start talking about a PR war, you know you’ve lost. As simple as that.”

“Sometimes in a war, the greatest impact comes from ignoring something. Just stay above it all,” Borkowski said.

“I think that has always been the strength of the Royal family: say nothing, don’t complain, and simply carry on doing what you need to do.”

Borkowski also claimed that Harry appeared “desperate” to be welcomed back into the royal fold after returning to Britain. However, he said the Duke’s media strategy was also misguided and suggested that better advice could have led the public to view Harry and Meghan “in a totally different way”.

He said: “Harry’s just not very bright and it shows that he and Meghan haven’t got much wisdom at the core of their comms.”

“Their whole strategy of coming back to the UK has been ‘noise, noise, noise’. But they’re still playing the same song.”

He added: “And the way for the royals, William or whoever, to counter that is just to rise above it.”

Examples of what Borkowski described as this “noise” include the reported decision to move the couple’s children to a different school during their first week, complaints that a foreign photographer had been stalking them and an explosive interview with GQ.

During his appearance, William also sought to present a more relatable image, discussing his enthusiasm for Celebrity Traitors, his abandoned ambition to become a DJ and his support for Aston Villa.

William’s appearance on the show, flanked by actors Cate Blanchett and Hannah Waddingham and conservationist Robert Irwin, came just two days after that bombshell GQ interview with Harry.

The Duke of Sussex had used that platform to reopen old wounds with his family, apparently blaming William for their rift, declaring that ‘some people don’t want it to work out.’

When Harry and Meghan carried out their controversial pseudo-royal walkabout in Nottingham last week, it received global coverage with the BBC news website alone reporting the visit with a live blog of the kind normally reserved for major news.

Other royal engagements on the same day – many of which had been planned for weeks – received a fraction of the coverage the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s unofficial appearance received.

Those overshadowed events included Prince William welcoming Crown Prince Hussein and Princess Rajwa of Jordan at Windsor, the King hosting a party of scientists and business leaders at St James’s Palace and Princess Anne visiting a tech centre in Exeter before attending a naval dinner in Portsmouth.

Daily Mail readers backed Prince William’s decision to appear on Norton, with 71 per cent of them agreeing with the statement that it made the royals ‘more relatable’ in our online poll.

In his first ever appearance on a chat show, William largely discussed his work on the Earthshot Prize, which he set up in 2020, but he also gave glimpses into his private life.

As he took to Graham’s sofa he spoke about BBC’s The Celebrity Traitors, saying: ‘I love it, the family love it. Charlotte and Louis are obsessed with it. It’s really good telly.’

He humorously added: ‘I saw Ross Kemp the day after the first episode and I couldn’t help but try – in the most appropriate way – to touch him to see what reaction I got from him. Turns out he was really jumpy!’

William spoke about what he would be if he were not set to be king, and said that he would have been a police officer or a DJ.

Kensington Palace was contacted for comment.

Authorities are investigating the deaths of a 22-month-old boy and his two grandparents, who were found dead inside an Ohio home.

The three victims were discovered Wednesday at a residence in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, after the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in which “a voice softly says the word ‘help,’” the agency said in a release.

Deputies found Kozzar Lotut, 22 months old, along with Melissa Campbell, 51, and Gale Sanders, 67, dead from apparent gunshot wounds. News Media confirmed the identities through the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.

Sheriff Orvis L. Campbell said investigators are examining the deaths as a possible murder-suicide.

“Right now, if I had to say the evidence was leaning one way, it’s definitely leaning towards a murder-suicide. We’re pretty confident, you know, that it happened within the home,” he told WOIO.

The grandparents cared for the toddler, who had “medical disabilities,” according to the sheriff.

Before her death, Campbell appeared to have worked as a registered nurse at New Philadelphia Health Care Center in Ohio.

The investigation began after first responders struggled to determine where the 911 call had originated.

The unidentified caller initially contacted 911 and then disconnected. Dispatchers called the number back several times, and during one of those attempts, someone answered and quietly said, “help.”

Investigators eventually traced the call to a home on Cherry Street in the small Ohio community.

A great-grandmother opened the door and allowed investigators to enter the residence.

The victims’ bodies were transported to the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office for autopsies. The cause and manner of death remain “pending.”

“Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as appropriate,” the Coroner’s Office said.

News Media has contacted American Medical Administrators, which operates New Philadelphia Health Care Center, as well as the Sheriff’s Office for comment.

A New Jersey mayor said he “just basically snapped” after charging at a vocal critic during a tense township council meeting—but insisted he “would do it again.”

Pemberton Township Mayor Matthew Bianchini, 59, acknowledged that lunging at the constituent during Wednesday’s heated exchange was inappropriate. At the same time, he described the confrontation as “a long time coming,” according to WPVI-TV.

“Was it wrong? Absolutely. Was it justified? Absolutely,” Bianchini said. “And I would do it again if I had to.”

Video from the meeting shows resident Michael Sawka waving away remarks reportedly made by Bianchini’s wife and daughter before raising his middle finger toward the mayor.

Bianchini then rushed toward Sawka, shouting, “I am getting you, I am f—ing getting you!” Councilman Perry Doyle Jr., a retired police officer, and Kenneth Gerber, the former community development director, restrained him, the station reported.

The clash erupted as Gerber accused the Republican mayor’s administration of wrongdoing during an employment appeal, according to video of the meeting.

The mayor, who leads the Philadelphia suburb of roughly 28,000 residents, offered what appeared to be a reluctant apology in an interview Thursday.

“I should not have said that,” Bianchini told the outlet, according to the report. “That was wrong. It was in the heat of the moment. I’m not gonna get anybody.”

He continued, “Don’t attack my family. I think any good husband, any good father, would’ve done just what I did.”

Sawka denied directing his remarks at Bianchini’s family. He called for the Republican mayor to resign and face charges over the confrontation.

“I’m just sitting there,” Sawka said, according to the report. “I never got up. I sat there the whole time. I was calm the whole time.”

“His family behind us started saying stuff. I turn around, and I start waving my hands, like kinda just—why don’t you all just shut up? I didn’t even say a word; I just was waving my hand.”

Bianchini, however, alleged that Sawka had harassed him and his family online and in person since he became mayor following the resignation of his predecessor.

“Mr. Sawka has been a thorn in this township’s side for a number of years. I’m not the first mayor he’s attacked,” Bianchini said, according to the station. “This gentleman’s life is all about me. He spends endless hours day after day posting stuff about me, negative posts about me, lies about me, and it’s gotta stop.”

Sawka maintained that he was the target of personal attacks from the mayor’s family. He said his criticism has focused on what he considers irresponsible handling of township finances.

“My biggest thing—all I’ve ever been trying to do is show that we’re wasting money,” Sawka told the outlet.

Bianchini is seeking election this year and faces Democratic challenger Belinda Fontanez. Republican Councilman Dan Dewey is also running a write-in campaign.

Before the confrontation, footage showed Sawka seated beside a man wearing a Dewey campaign shirt as the mayor and other administration officials looked on with apparent disapproval.

The Pentagon has published another collection of declassified UFO records, featuring a startling eyewitness account that alleges the military recovered a crashed spacecraft and the bodies of its extraterrestrial crew.

The document, released Friday, contains testimony from a military officer whose identity was redacted. He said he was present during the famed 1947 Roswell incident and was later shown the alleged craft inside a hangar identified as “Building 84.”

Roswell remains one of the most debated UFO cases ever reported. On July 8, 1947, the military initially announced that a “flying disc” had been recovered in New Mexico, only to revise the explanation and say the debris belonged to a weather balloon.

The witness is believed to have been Walter Haut, the public information officer at Roswell Army Air Force Base. Haut said the US military had recovered an egg-shaped craft and several dead bodies from a crash site in New Mexico earlier that month.

“I am convinced that what I personally observed was some type of craft and its crew from outer space,” the witness wrote in a statement prepared in 2002 and kept sealed by the Pentagon.

According to the account, the wreckage and bodies were moved to a heavily guarded hangar. The officer said he was permitted to view the craft, which measured approximately 12 to 15 feet in length and six feet in width and had a metallic exterior.

The object reportedly had no windows, wings, tail or landing gear. Its unusual material was described as a foil-like metal that was “paper thin yet extremely strong.”

The bodies were reportedly covered by a canvas tarpaulin. The witness said they had disproportionately large heads and were roughly the size of 10-year-old children, standing about four feet tall.

The extraordinary claims appeared in a sealed affidavit signed by the witness on December 26, 2002—more than five decades after the alleged crash.

Since the Roswell incident, the US government has consistently maintained that no physical evidence proving the existence of UFOs or extraterrestrial life has ever been recovered.

The surviving text in the heavily classified Pentagon file closely matches sworn public statements made by Haut. It also contains distinctive details that he alone is known to have provided about the aftermath of the Roswell crash.

Haut, who died in 2005, repeated the account to the International UFO Museum and Research Center in Roswell shortly before his death. That statement was notarized in front of a museum visitor.

The document released Friday says a staff briefing took place at about 7:30 a.m. local time on July 8. Several senior officials attended, although their names were removed from the Pentagon’s version of the report.

During the meeting, officials reportedly discussed a large debris field discovered in Lincoln County, approximately 75 miles northwest of Roswell.

A second location, considered more significant, was identified about 40 miles north of the town. The site allegedly contained the remains of the egg-shaped craft and the bodies.

“Samples of wreckage were passed around the table. It was unlike any material I had or have ever seen in my life. No one was able to identify the crash debris,” the witness wrote in the document released Friday.

According to the declassified file, the group discussed whether the US military to go public with the news of an alien crash landing on Earth.

One suggested plan was to publicize the ranch debris site northwest of Roswell to divert attention from the more important northern site, since civilians and the media were already involved.

Around 9.30am on July 8, the witness was ordered to write down a press release, dictated by the Roswell base commander, Colonel William Blanchard.

In the statement give to the press, the military revealed they had recovered a flying disc from a ranch northwest of Roswell and that Base intelligence officer Major Jesse Marcel would fly the material to military headquarters in Texas for further study.

Marcel is the officer famously seen in the iconic photograph holding the metallic material which the military later claimed was just a weather balloon.

The declassified report and Haut’s public statements both revealed that he was then personally taken by Blanchard to see the UFO and alien remains which were being stored in a facility known as Building 84, or Hangar P-3.

‘From a distance, I was able to see a couple of bodies under a canvas tarpaulin. Only the heads extended beyond the covering, and I was not able to make out any features,’ Haut stated.

‘The heads did appear larger than normal and the contour of the canvas suggested the size of a ten year old child.’

A temporary morgue was constructed to store the bodies at Roswell, but the declassified file did not reveal what happened to the alleged alien remains after Haut visited Building 84.

The report also revealed that Marcel claimed pieces of the UFO taken to Carswell Army Air Field in Texas were switched for debris from a weather balloon and radar kite while the intelligence officer was in a different room on the base.

‘I would be allowed to make at least one visit to one of the recovery sites during the military cleanup. I would return to the base with some of the wreckage which I would display in my office,’ the witness claimed.

There is no record of what happened the alleged UFO debris Haut claimed to have collected. The US government has never confirmed that debris was recovered or moved to classified facilities for research.
