Harry Planning Frequent UK Visits After Charles Reunion

0

In the wake of a reconciliatory meeting with King Charles, Prince Harry is reportedly eager to make more frequent trips to Britain. Sources reveal that the Duke of Sussex plans to return to the UK “every few months” over the next year.

The 41-year-old royal appears rejuvenated by last month’s journey across the Atlantic, which insiders say left him feeling “buoyed,” “very happy,” and “really energized.” As a result, we can expect Harry to increase his UK presence significantly moving forward.

Scheduled on his calendar is a trip next month when Harry will engage in activities for the upcoming Invictus Games, set to take place in Birmingham next summer. Additionally, he will support WellChild, a charity dedicated to helping children with serious illnesses.

As of now, it remains uncertain if the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, who is 45, or their children—Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five—will accompany Harry on his upcoming September visit.

Last month’s UK visit was marked by a momentous behind-the-scenes gathering at Highgrove, where King Charles hosted Harry, Meghan, and their children, fostering an atmosphere of reconciliation and renewal.

Queen Camilla, 79, was also present at the Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire when father and son exchanged words in what was the first public in-person meeting in four years.

Charles had not seen his youngest grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, since 2022, when they were just three and one.

Meghan posted a photograph online of Harry and their children in Althorp’s gardens carrying bouquets of flowers. They were believed to be making their way to lay the blooms at Diana’s grave.

It is understood Harry wants to spend more time in the UK so he can see his father and wider family more often, and as he feels he can support his UK-based charities with more in-person meetings.

A source close to Harry told The Times: ‘The template for his visits has been working well, so the frequency of trips will increase, especially in the run-up to Invictus which he’s determined to make the best games yet. So he’ll be coming back and forth a lot more, every few months.

‘The way the wind is blowing, he’s going to want to be here more and more. He’s happy these trips can now have more focus on the patronages and be less obscured by the other nonsense.

‘He wants more of a foothold here, more trips back, less courtroom drama. And he always loves seeing his family.’

It is not known whether the King and Harry will meet when the latter returns next month, as Charles is expected to be at Balmoral in Scotland on his summer break

Sources claim that no decision has been made on whether Harry will reside at Buckingham Palace during the visit.

Harry is also understood to be hoping to return to Ukraine in the coming months, having visited the war-torn country twice in the past two years.

Earlier this month it was reported that Harry is believed to want his father to stand alongside him at next summer’s Invictus Games.

King Charles has reportedly received an olive branch from his son in the form of an invitation to the multi-sport event, held in Birmingham.

One source told the Mirror: ‘Next year is a big deal for Harry. He is determined the Birmingham Games will be the best ever. It would mean the world to him to have his father there.’

Harry and Meghan, who quit as senior royals in 2020 and moved to California, have also recently spoken about their wish to introduce their children to their British roots.

During a visit to Warwickshire last month, Harry said: ‘I love being here, this is the highlight of my month.

‘Actually probably the last few months. It’s very easy to sit in your grief, to sit in your stress but, guys, if you are feeling it, share it.’

Cellphone Footage Leads to Murder Arrest in Shocking Case

Authorities in Missouri have arrested a man suspected of killing a woman in a motel room, following the discovery of a video on the suspect’s cellphone, which allegedly shows him assaulting the victim.

The suspect, 35-year-old Nicholas Anthony Ayres, faces charges of second-degree felony murder and first-degree domestic assault in relation to the tragic death of 37-year-old Destiny Dunn. These charges were outlined in a press release by the Columbia Police Department.

The case came to light on Wednesday, August 12, when police responded to an emergency call reporting a possible cardiac arrest at a location on Range Line Street in Columbia, a major city approximately 125 miles west of St. Louis.

Upon their arrival at the By The Way Motel, officers discovered the lifeless body of Dunn.

“Upon arrival, officers believed the death to be suspicious,” police said. “The investigation later revealed the death was a homicide.”

Ayres called 911 that day, police said in a probable cause statement obtained by Columbia-based NBC and The CW affiliate KOMU.

The defendant told dispatchers he and Dunn got into an altercation while in the shower, according to the charging document. To hear Ayres tell it, the woman got upset after he said he was going to leave her, which led to her falling down in the shower, police said.

During the emergency call, Ayres allegedly said the woman looked like she had been beaten up, but the defendant told the dispatcher he did no such thing, according to the probable cause statement.

Inside the motel, officers noted that Dunn had bruises all over her body, police said. The defendant was taken into custody at the scene.

Police spoke with neighboring guests in an adjacent room at the motel who said they heard what sounded like physical violence some four hours prior, according to the charging document.

During a custodial interview, Ayres allegedly admitted to physical altercations with Dunn but insisted they were accidental, police said.

After obtaining a search warrant for the motel room, police recovered the defendant’s cellphone. On the device, investigators found a recording dated two days before the slaying in which Ayres attacks Dunn repeatedly, according to the probable cause statement.

Other telltale evidence turned up on the phone, police said.

Investigators allegedly found a photograph of Dunn lying in the bathtub at the motel. There is also an accompanying video of sorts in which Dunn is still in the bathtub – barely moving. The photo and video were timestamped roughly three hours before police arrived at the motel, according to the charging document.

Then, in yet another video, Ayres paces the motel room as Dunn groans in the background, police said. At one point in the final video, the defendant announces that he is calling 911.

“Hey honey, I’m really calling 911. I have to because I’m not going down for manslaughter,” Ayres allegedly tells the dying woman, according to the probable cause statement.

The defendant is being detained in the Boone County Jail without bond.

Ted Lasso’s Rebecca and Sam: The Age-Gap Romance that’s Sparking Major Buzz

Apple TV+’s beloved series “Ted Lasso” has charmed viewers with its delightful storytelling and endearing characters. However, it has not shied away from stirring up debate with some of its bold plotlines. One storyline that sparked a whirlwind of discussion among fans was the unexpected romance between Sam Obisanya and Rebecca Welton in Season 2. Played by Toheeb Jimoh, Sam is a young soccer player for AFC Richmond, a team owned by Rebecca, portrayed by Hannah Waddingham, known for her role in “Game of Thrones.” This romance, bridging the ages of 21 and late 40s, provoked strong reactions from the audience.

Though the pair initially connected anonymously through a dating app, unaware of each other’s identities and ages, many viewers believed Rebecca should have ended the relationship upon learning who Sam was. The sentiment echoed in online forums, with one Reddit user asserting that Rebecca should have halted any budding romance during their initial dinner, especially after Sam revealed his age.

Some audience members saw the age difference as merely one aspect of broader concerns around the inherent power dynamics in their relationship. Although opinions varied on the extent of the power imbalance, the discomfort caused by the boss-subordinate element was a prevalent critique. “While the age gap is noticeable, both Sam and Rebecca are accomplished individuals, yet her position as his boss complicates things,” another commenter pointed out, hinting at the inevitable conclusion of this brief fling.

Sam and Rebecca’s romance ended in Season 2

As Season 2 concluded, the characters of Sam and Rebecca amicably ended their short-lived affair, aligning with fan sentiments that they made better friends than lovers. This led many to ponder the storyline’s intention, questioning its contribution to the plot. One viewer highlighted the absence of significant character development as a reason for seeing the relationship as unnecessary.

Conversely, other fans argue it served a crucial purpose. Following her character’s escape from a toxic marriage, Waddingham’s Rebecca needed to rebuild her self-worth. One Redditor suggested that receiving affection from Sam, portrayed as both attractive and kind, helped Rebecca begin to shed the bitterness from her past relationships, illustrating how the romance, fleeting as it was, played a role in her healing journey.

And Jimoh himself thought his character also gained from the experience, despite the briefness. “I was just really glad that we got to explore this version of Sam. In season two, he’s growing up a lot more. He’s learning to stand on his own two feet,” he told Vulture in 2021. Besides, Jimoh was excited to spend more time onscreen with Waddingham. As it turns out, the “Ted Lasso” stars were had a strong friendship behind the scenes, so that helped. “The first thing I did was call Hannah, and we just geeked out,” he shared. Regardless of where one stands, one thing is for sure: everyone had something to say about Sam and Rebecca’s relationship.

Elderly Fujisawa’s Bold Return to Jail: A Shoplifting Odyssey

0

Tune in to Dateline’s latest episode, “Japan’s Shoplifting Pensioners,” airing on August 18 at 9:30 PM AEST on SBS or catch up anytime on SBS On Demand.

As Fujisawa stepped out of prison for the fifteenth and most recent time, he found himself grappling with an unsettling reality. With no place to call home and no family anticipating his return, his future seemed as uncertain as ever. After accumulating 35 years behind bars due to habitual shoplifting, life outside prison walls posed its own challenges.

Fujisawa’s thefts consisted of trivial items: lipstick, groceries, and anything conveniently within reach. For him, the stringent penalties Japan enforces on repeat offenders rarely served as a deterrent. Instead, imprisonment felt like a return to a familiar and welcoming community.

“Once inside, you’re surrounded by friends, people who accept you for who you are, no matter your past,” he shares candidly.

“In Japan, prison is the safest place for me; I don’t need to worry about protecting myself there,” Fujisawa reflects.

Now in his seventies, Fujisawa has spent much of his adult life moving between prison and the outside world.

“I kept going in and out of prison,” he says. I was only out in society for one or two years at a time.”

While Fujisawa’s story is extreme, he is part of a much broader problem in Japan.

Japan’s ageing offenders

Japan has one of the world’s oldest populations, with more than a quarter of its citizens aged 65 or older. Its offenders are ageing too.

The proportion of elderly offenders has climbed despite overall crime rates falling dramatically. With people over 60 making up of more than a quarter of arrests in some parts of the country, many are accused of petty theft.

Volunteer probation officer Chiba has observed this shift. He says 20 to 30 per cent of his parolees are elderly.

“Being isolated and the rising cost of living, some old people don’t receive enough pension. They run short on money, so they repeat crimes.”

According to government data, around half of elderly people caught shoplifting live by themselves, with four in 10 saying they have no family or rarely speak to them.

The number of Japanese seniors living alone has dramatically increased over recent decades, leaving many to face old age with little financial or social support.

Desperate to go back to prison

Elderly offenders also have some of Japan’s highest rates of reoffending. Nearly one in five prisoners over 60 returns to prison within two years of being released.

Last year, the government amended the Penal Code, abolishing mandatory prison labour and introducing rehabilitation programs to give prisoners skills to help them cope with life on the outside.

But former prisoners coming back to the outside still face social stigma. Many struggle to find work and secure housing.

“Historically in Japan, our attitudes towards former prisoners and how we treat them has not been good,” Chiba says.

“Even though they’ve been locked up, and they’ve paid for their crime, people will still label them as former inmates.”

Two men sit next to each other talking in an office. On the left is a middle-aged Japanese man wearing a grey suit and white shirt. Opposite him is an elderly man wearing a grey beanie and a white medical mask

Tanaka (not his real name) knows what that can cost. Now in his eighties, he recently came out after two years in prison for shoplifting. It was his first offence. Now he’s struggling to find anyone who will even rent him a room.

“I got a divorce so I wouldn’t cause my wife more trouble,” he says.

“I don’t see my children at all and have been alone since I came out.”

Without relatives willing to act as guarantors, former prisoners can end up relying often rely on welfare accommodation or halfway houses supported by probation officers or even end up on the streets.

A reason to stay out of prison

For Fujisawa, life outside looks quite different in his old age. With his wife and family cutting ties, he now lives in a welfare hostel.

After returning from his last stint in prison, he turned to the local council for social welfare. After paying rent, he says he is left with around 30,000 to 40,000 yen ($260-$350) a month. While it’s not much, Fujisawa says it’s enough to keep building his life and stop him from shoplifting again.

An elderly Japanese man wearing a beige baseball cap and a black jacket speaking with a blue medical mask covering the lower half of his face

He now works as a volunteer cleaner for Sanya Cafe, a charity helping to get elderly and vulnerable people off the streets.

For a man who spent decades moving in and out of prison, the work has given him something he says he never had on the outside: a place in the community.

“When I pick up rubbish, people queuing at the bus stop say thank you to me,” he says.

“I’ve never been thanked before.”

Fujisawa still acknowledges his past.

“I’m not proud of my life, I’m ashamed of it,” he says.

“But now I’m happy I can live, maybe not quite as normally as other people, but as close to normal as I can.”

People recognise him. He has somewhere to be and something to contribute, and that is important to Fujisawa.

“Being able to work here as a volunteer makes me happy, and I’m useful to people. If I weren’t here, I’d be in prison.”

Vietnam Airlines Emergency: Flight Dumps Fuel and Returns After Tail Strike Incident

0

A Vietnam Airlines flight had to jettison fuel and make an emergency landing after its tail hit the runway during takeoff.

The Boeing 787-9, on route from Munich, Germany to Hanoi, Vietnam, overshot the runway at takeoff, as reported by flight-tracking platform Flightradar24.

In a video clip shared on X by aircraft engineer Fahad Naim, flight VN-34 is seen taxiing down the runway before a loud thud breaks the calm.

The rear of the aircraft seemed to hit the ground, stirring up a significant dust cloud while utilizing almost the full runway length for lift-off.

The plane was observed circling at an altitude of about 9,000 feet above Munich for nearly two hours, with footage on Flightradar24 capturing the aircraft releasing fuel before safely landing back at Munich International Airport.

Naim also shared images he claims show damage to the aircraft, noting that “the whole tail strike module is gone” and there were “punctured tyres.”

He also pointed to “a puncture through the lower fuselage, with torn composite and heavy scrape marks running aft.”

He says he suspects a brake seizure or internal fault, however he notes that it’s too early for the exact cause of the incident to be confirmed.

Vietnam Airlines said in a statement to Reuters that the plane had returned to its departure airport due to a “technical issue.”

It noted that flight crew had followed procedures and landed safely at Munich Airport.

“The passengers and cabin crew members are safe,” the airline said.

Vietnam Airlines said the aircraft is being inspected and it is co-ordinating with the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, Munich Airport said that after the flight returned it was unable to taxi off ‌the north runway after under its own power and was stranded, forcing the runway to be closed and planes to be rerouted via the south runway.

Indiana’s Historic Floods: Six Lives Lost, 100 Miraculously Rescued

0

In a shocking turn of events, torrential rain has unleashed catastrophic flooding across Indiana, claiming the lives of six individuals, with more people still unaccounted for.

Entire communities are grappling with relentless deluges, as rivers break their banks and unleash torrents, forcing residents to abandon their homes. In scenes of desperation, many have taken to kayaks to navigate the flooded streets.

Responders are tirelessly working with boats, rescuing those trapped in waterlogged houses along the White River as water levels continue to rise alarmingly.

Over the last seven days, heavy rainfall has battered Indiana, pushing rivers to unprecedented heights and prompting residents to seek refuge on higher ground.

In response to the widespread destruction, more than a dozen counties have declared local disasters. The greatest impact has been observed along river corridors stretching from Hamilton County into the north side of Indianapolis.

President Donald Trump approved an emergency declaration for Indiana, and federal disaster assistance is available to the state, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said the city was dealing with its most severe flooding in more than 30 years and conditions were shifting rapidly.

Hundreds of homes in neighborhoods between the river and parallel canals were evacuated on Saturday and 911 dispatchers had received hundreds of calls for help.

The Indianapolis Fire Department put the number of rescues at 95 people and 45 pets as of late afternoon.

More than 350 evacuations occurred in Delaware County including residents of a senior mobile home community in Tipton County, the governor’s office said.

Rescues and welfare checks also were happening in Fayette County.

Six people were killed in the floods over the past week, including a four-year-old boy killed when a tree fell on his home.

A 58-year-old woman was swept away after driving into floodwaters, and a 19-year-old man was found dead after jumping into a river on Wednesday.

Jacob Spence, director of Marion County Emergency Management, called it a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ type flood.

‘This is an unprecedented event, and unfortunately we’re setting some new records,’ he told The Associated Press.

The National Weather Service reported that more than 11 inches of rain fell over a two-day period in some areas.

The White River crested at more than 24ft in the communities of Anderson and Noblesville, surpassing records set in 1913.

While some floodwaters were receding north of Indianapolis, flash-flood warnings and watches remained in place Saturday across a swath of central Indiana.

Forecasters expected the White River to crest on Saturday evening in the Indianapolis area, where National Guard vehicles were among those helping with the rescue efforts.

Earlier this week, severe storms wreaked havoc across other parts of the Midwest, causing tornadoes, heavy rains and flash flooding.

Storm damage was reported from the Chicago area all the way to western Pennsylvania. Power has yet to be restored for some residents in other parts of Indiana.

Residents posted videos on social media that showed submerged homes, vehicles stranded in high water, a power pole being toppled by rushing water and roads being washed away.

There were ominous clouds over Noblesville on Saturday morning, but the river already had marked its historic crest the night before, leaving homes standing in water, parking lots flooded and corn fields saturated.

The community’s historic covered bridge, Potter’s Bridge, was still standing.

‘This is crazy for all of us,’ said Matt Doudt, the city’s photographer, who was out early to document the aftermath.

He pointed to a grassy commons area that usually hosts farmers’ markets and concerts. That was under water. So was a brand new memorial and flower garden recently installed by the city.

He said Noblesville, with its historic charm and brick streets, didn’t get much rain in recent days but that the flooding was caused by the downpours that happened in communities upstream.

All that water had nowhere to go but to rush down to Noblesville – and now Indianapolis, he said.

Caitlyn Jenner Critiques WNBA on Transgender Athlete Policy

0

Caitlyn Jenner, a trailblazing transgender woman and celebrated former Olympic gold medalist, is making her voice heard in the heated debate over transgender athletes in the WNBA.

The league finds itself at the center of a storm of controversy sparked by comments from Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham. She expressed her intent to ‘protect young girls’ from what she referred to as ‘biological men,’ a statement that has ignited passionate discussions nationwide.

Cunningham’s remarks have touched a nerve, eliciting mixed reactions across the WNBA landscape. In a bold move of protest, former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White have announced their intention to enter the WNBA draft, further fanning the flames of this ongoing debate.

“XX are in, XY are out. It’s that simple,” Jenner remarked during a conversation with Fox News this week. She emphasized, “I believe they are making significant steps to highlight the inconsistency within the WNBA. Protecting women’s sports has been my recurring message for years.”

Having captured global attention as Bruce Jenner, Caitlyn’s remarkable achievements at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where she clinched the gold in decathlon, cement her legacy as a U.S. sporting icon.

How should women’s sports balance inclusivity with fairness for female athletes?

She came out as transgender and transitioned in 2015, yet has since supported calls to ban transgender athletes from women’s sports.

The WNBA has been engulfed by controversy over transgender athletes in recent weeks, after Indiana Fever star Cunningham said she wants to ‘protect young girls’ from ‘biological men.’

Freedom, who played in the NBA for 11 seasons and stands at 6ft 10in, announced his plans to declare for the WNBA Draft earlier this month amid the ongoing debate surrounding transgender athlete involvement in sports.

The former hoops star, who allegedly sent a provocative letter to WNBA commissioner, has sparked widespread criticism with his divisive decision.

Meanwhile, since his statement of intent, another former NBA star, White, has followed suit, also declaring for the WNBA Draft.

The 35-year-old, who only played three games in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings, told Fox News Digital that he is now transgender and wants to join the likes of Clark and Cunningham on the court next season.

White later doubled down by posting a picture of himself wearing a wig on social media.

WNBA general managers and presidents met on Wednesday as part of an anti-hate task force to discuss the subject of athlete eligibility amid the transgender debate.

Despite the uproar, the powers-that-be determined that there were no issues with its eligibility criteria, suggesting that no changes would be made.

The league announced following the meeting that it had ruled that there were ‘no immediate eligibility matters affecting’ the WNBA at this time.

WNBA chiefs also took the chance to address the recent storm surrounding the league, hitting out at ‘bad-faith efforts’ to ‘marginalize others.’

‘Today’s meeting covered a wide range of topics, including ongoing discussions on transgender athletes and the continued hate and vitriol directed at players online,’ a spokesman for the league said in a statement, via The New York Post.

‘We will continue to engage all league stakeholders in the coming weeks and months. We will approach these important conversations thoughtfully and in alignment with the values of our league.

‘There are no immediate eligibility matters affecting the WNBA and we strongly denounce the bad-faith efforts to use these topics to demean or marginalize others.’

Currently, the league’s collective bargaining agreement states that ‘only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA,’ but it does not include any more specific language about gender identity or sex assigned at birth.

Some WNBA players and coaches have come out in support of transgender athletes, including Seattle Storm center Stefanie Dolson and Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve.

‘We need to protect trans kids,’ Reeve said on August 1. ‘To me, it’s a human rights issue. Every kid has a right to sports.’

Danielle Fishel Opens Up About Overcoming a Challenging Relationship at 19

Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel recently shared insights about moving on from a challenging personal chapter at age 19, which involved walking away from a toxic relationship.

Reflecting on those days during the “Pod Meets World” podcast aired on Thursday, August 13, the now 45-year-old Fishel admitted, “That year was incredibly tough for me on a personal level. I was caught in a very damaging relationship, which I finally ended around late 2000 or early 2001.”

Fishel recounted how, in the aftermath of Boy Meets World concluding its successful seven-season run in 2000, she wasn’t seeking new acting roles. Instead, she was focused on recovering emotionally from the relationship that had significantly affected her well-being.

“Those were such turbulent times,” she noted. “That’s when I decided to leave Beverly Hills for Sherman Oaks, in such a whirlwind that my mom had to select an apartment for me — I hadn’t even seen it before moving in. I just packed up and settled into the new place she chose.”

Danielle Fishel Details the Genius Way She Is Teaching Her Kids to Clean Up for Themselves Inline

Besides her accomplishments in acting, podcasting, and dancing, Danielle Fishel has ingeniously tackled household chores. Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly while promoting a collaboration with Lysol, the 44-year-old revealed her clever strategy for managing chores, noting, “The chore I dread most is putting away laundry.”

She added, “That year was not a fun year, not a year I like revisiting at all.”

Her cohosts Rider Strong and Will Friedle asked whether Fishel faced any pressure from her agent to get back to work.

“Not that I remember,” she clarified. “I know, for sure, I had said, ‘I don’t want anything. I don’t want to audition for anything. I’m just done for a little bit.’ And I don’t remember there being a lot of pushback.”

Fishel pointed out this upheaval in her personal and professional life occurred at the same time as she switched from having “a kid’s agent” to going out for older parts.

“For me to say, like, ‘I’m in a holding pattern. I’m not sure what I’m going to do,’ we just kind of put that on hold,” she said. “And then I did eventually sign with the Young Talent department at Innovative, which was run by Abby Bluestone, who is still there and she’s amazing.”

Where Does Ben Savage Stand With 'Boy Meets World' Cast? Inside the Drama

The Boy Meets World cast has spoken out about their years-long rift with former costar Ben Savage. The actor played Cory Matthews on the beloved ABC sitcom, which ran from 1993 to 2000. Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle have discussed being estranged from Savage for years, stemming from the creation of their “Pod […]

Fishel has frequently been quite vulnerable about her past — and her work on Boy Meets World. In May, she spoke to Us about the way TV executives flippantly discussed her body on set when she was a teenager.

“I was aware, even if nobody said it to me directly… that as far as the people in power were concerned, my body was a problem… I remember around the time of [1998’s] prom episode being aware that they didn’t want me wearing something sleeveless,” she remembered.

In more recent years, Fishel tied the knot with her second husband, comedian and rapper Jensen Karp, in 2018. They are parents to two sons — Adler, 7, and Keaton, 4.

Meet the Marvel X-Men Movie Cast: Discover the Familiar Faces and Their Previous Roles

0

Since 2019, fans of the X-Men series have been waiting for another cinematic journey. The last installment, “Dark Phoenix,” released when Sony still held the reins, left much to be desired, while the 2020 release of “The New Mutants” was largely forgotten. However, excitement is stirring once again with the announcement of a new X-Men film set for 2028, directed by Jake Schreier and now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At last year’s Disney D23 event, a brand-new cast was unveiled, promising a fresh start for the beloved mutants, despite former franchise stars appearing in “Avengers: Doomsday.”

Fans already caught a glimpse of Sadie Sink as the mutant Jean Grey in the “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” film, released in July 2026, marking a triumphant return for Tom Holland in the iconic suit. On August 14, 2026, Marvel’s chief, Kevin Feige, revealed the full principal cast for the upcoming, yet unnamed, X-Men movie.

Returning as Jean Grey, Sadie Sink is set to lead a cast teeming with talent and fresh faces alike, including Christopher Abbott, Kit Connor, Inde Navarrette, Samara Weaving, Maya Boyd, and Adam Driver. Whether you’re spotting familiar faces or discovering new talent, we’re here to share why these actors look so familiar to audiences worldwide.

Sadie Sink (Jean Grey)

We’ve long known Sadie Sink would portray Jean Grey, an original member of the X-Men who wields formidable telekinetic and, later, telepathic abilities. Jean’s greatest hurdle lies in her profound power, transforming into Phoenix, which connects her to the Phoenix Force—a godlike embodiment of life and passion. Previously, Sink debuted this role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” but she may be recognizable from elsewhere.

Even those with a peripheral awareness of Sadie Sink would recognize her breakout role as Max Mayfield in Netflix’s mammoth hit “Stranger Things.” Debuting in the show’s second season, her character, Max, quickly became a household favorite, reigniting interest in Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” and showcasing Sink’s powerful performance until the series concluded in 2025. Beyond Hawkins, Sink starred in the Broadway play “John Proctor is the Villain,” earned acclaim in Darren Aronofsky’s film “The Whale,” explored horror in Netflix’s “Fear Street” trilogy, and featured prominently in Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well: The Short Film,” where she embodied Swift’s persona in the narrative tale accompanying the ten-minute song.

Kit Connor (Cyclops)

In previous X-Men films, James Marsden, Tim Pocock, and Tye Sheridan have played Scott Summers — also known as the powerful mutant Cyclops — and Marsden, for his part, is set to show up in “Avengers: Doomsday.” In the new X-Men film, though, Cyclops, husband of Jean Grey and possessor of super-powerful eye beams that require special glasses to properly deploy, will be played by Kit Connor of “Heartstopper” fame.

Connor led “Heartstopper,” the wildly popular coming-of-age series on Netflix based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novels and web comics, as Nick Nelson, a young man grappling with his sexuality while attending Truham Grammar School in the United Kingdom. Alongside Joe Locke as Charlie Spring, Connor will make you laugh and cry in equal measure as Charlie and Nick tentatively embark on a romantic relationship, beginning as friends coming from very different perspectives. (Interestingly, Locke is also a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to his turn as Billy Maximoff in “Agatha All Along.”) “Heartstopper” is a deeply earnest and honest show that explores mental health and other weighty issues, and Connor leads it beautifully; elsewhere, you’ve likely seen him in Alex Garland’s 2025 epic “Warfare” and the 2026 film “Heartstopper Forever,” or heard his voice as the daemon Pantalaimon in HBO’s adaptation of “His Dark Materials.”

Christopher Abbott (Professor X)

As the founder and ostensible leader of the X-Men, the proverbial weight of the world always seems to rest on the shoulders of Professor X. A super-powered telepath who uses a wheelchair due to paraplegia, Professor X, whose full name is Charles Frances Xavier, is an incredibly wise father figure who helps train future generations of mutants … so who’s playing this incredibly important role and following in the footsteps of great actors like Patrick Stewart and James MacAvoy, the latter of whom played a younger version of the esteemed professor?

That would be Christopher Abbott, and anyone with even a passing familiarity with his work knows he’s more than up to the task. Abbott first rose to prominence on Lena Dunham’s subversive, brilliant HBO comedy “Girls,” where he plays Charlie, the beleaguered long-term boyfriend of all-time TV villainness Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams) who eventually goes off-grid and breaks bad. (If you haven’t watched the Season 5 episode “The Panic in Central Park,” for which Abbott returned after leaving the show in Season 2, do yourself a favor and watch it right now.) Besides “Girls,” Abbott, who made his film debut alongside MCU star Elizabeth Olsen in 2011’s “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” has appeared in movies like “Poor Things,” “Black Bear,” “First Man,” “The Testament of Ann Lee,” and Leigh Whannell’s “Wolf Man” reboot — as well as the first season of the TV anthology series “The Sinner” alongside Jessica Biel.

Maya Boyd (Storm)

Newcomers are always welcome in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s thrilling that Storm — who, true to her name, can control the weather and atmosphere — will be played by a brand-new face in the new X-Men movie. Longtime fans of the franchise likely think of Oscar winner Halle Berry when they think of Storm (or Alexandra Shipp, who plays a younger version of the character), but going forward, when you think Storm, think Maya Boyd.

Incredibly, the 2028 X-Men film will be Boyd’s big-screen debut, but clearly Jake Schreier knows she’s up to the challenge. If you’ve been lucky enough to catch any of Boyd’s stage work, you likely agree with Schreier. The Michigan native made her Broadway debut playing multiple small roles in the award-winning revival of “Merrily We Roll Along” with Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff, and Lindsay Mendez, and went on to play the title role of Juliet Capulet in the hit Max Martin jukebox musical “& Juliet.” In 2026, she took the role of Molly Cunningham in a Broadway revival of August Wilson’s play “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” and we absolutely can’t wait to see what Boyd brings to the role of Storm.

Inde Navarrette (Rogue)

Inde Navarrette’s debut performance wasn’t Curry Barker’s massively popular 2025 movie “Obsession” — she previously appeared in “13 Reasons Why” and the CW superhero series “Superman & Lois” — but there’s no question that her turn as Nikki in “Obsession” put her on the map. When former YouTuber Barker’s low-budget indie horror film became one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year, Navarrette became one of the most in-demand young actresses around thanks to her stunning portrayal of Nikki, a young woman who finds herself in the unexpectedly dangerous crosshairs of Bear’s (Michael Johnston) affection to the point where he uses a magical object to wish that Nikki will love him forever. Unfortunately for both Bear and Nikki, this wish has some unexpected and extremely gruesome consequences … and Navarrette sells her character’s horrifying transformation beautifully.

Now, Navarrette will play Rogue, a mutant who can absorb anyone else’s qualities, memories, powers, or even life force with a simple touch — and a mutant that’s been played by Academy Award winner Anna Paquin in previous projects. Navarrette is still relatively new to the scene, but after “Obsession,” we’re supremely confident that her take on Rogue will be exceptional.

Samara Weaving (Emma Frost)

Within the world of Marvel Comics, Emma Frost is a complex and dynamic character who often shifts, from story to story, from hero to villain. A mutant with telepathic powers and, bizarrely, the ability to become an organic diamond (which is a benefit in that she’s basically indestructible and no longer needs food, water, and air when in that form), Emma has played both antagonist and ally during the X-Men franchise on both page and screen, and in live-action projects, she’s previously been played by Tahyna Tozzi and, most notably, “Mad Men” alum January Jones. Now, Australian actress Samara Weaving is set to take the role in the forthcoming X-Men movie.

The term “scream queen” gets thrown around a lot, but if there’s a contender for the top modern scream queen, Samara Weaving is definitely firmly in the running. After getting her start on soap operas down under, Weaving made a name for herself as a horror star thanks to “Ready or Not,” the cheeky horror comedy that casts her as a bride whose new family is, uh, a little intense that was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and got a sequel, “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come,” in 2026. Aside from that mini-franchise, Weaving has appeared on the small screen in “Nine Perfect Strangers,” “Hollywood,” and “Picnic at Hanging Rock” and on the big screen in projects like “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” “Snake Eyes,” “Carolina Caroline,” and “Over Your Dead Body.”

Adam Driver (Mister Sinister)

The final casting announcement for the new X-Men film is probably its most exciting … in that it concerns the movie’s big bad villain Mister Sinister. The benefactor of the dangerous assassin group known as the Marauders in the comics, Mister Sinister was born Nathaniel Essex, a man fascinated by the work that Charles Darwin did on evolution who eventually becomes obsessed with studying mutants and trying to purposefully create a race of superhumans. After a chance meeting with another huge X-Men villain, Apocalypse (who was played by Oscar Isaac in the 2016 movie “X-Men: Apocalypse”), Nathaniel officially transforms into Mister Sinister thanks to Apocalypse’s Celestial technology, and even though he feels bizarrely protective over mutants like Cyclops and Jean Grey, he’s still definitively a villain.

Amazingly, Mister Sinister has never gotten a live-action depiction before … so it feels right that Marvel went big and booked acclaimed actor Adam Driver for the role. Driver, like Christopher Abbott, rose to prominence on Girls, albeit in a much larger role — as an on-again, off-again lover to Lena Dunham’s Hannah Horvath, Driver showed off his considerable acting chops as the temperamental and erratic Adam Sackler and earned a handful of Emmy nominations in the process — before becoming a bonafide Hollywood darling. After and during “Girls,” Driver appeared in films like “Lincoln,” “What If,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and “This Is Where I Leave You” in supporting roles before booking his first franchise as antagonist Kylo Ren in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars sequel trilogy. You’ve likely also seen Driver in projects like “Midnight Special,” “Silence,” “Marriage Story,” “Megalopolis,” “Annette,” “BlacKkKlansman,” earning two Oscar nods in the process … and as the host of four (extremely good) episodes of “Saturday Night Live.”

The new X-Men film hits theaters in 2028.

19-Year-Old Arrested After Shocking Shooting Incident Injures 5 at Virginia State University

0

PETERSBURG, Va. — A startling incident unfolded early Saturday at Virginia State University when law enforcement arrested a 19-year-old man hiding inside a dormitory closet. The young man, now identified, is linked to a late-night campus shooting that left five individuals injured, with one victim in critical condition.

Camron Harris, residing in Henrico, Virginia, was apprehended, despite not being enrolled at the university, according to the Chesterfield County Police. Notably, four of the five victims also were not students. The injured parties, ranging from 17 to 23 years old, included one 20-year-old student who has since been discharged from the hospital. The authorities have yet to disclose the identities of those affected by the event.

While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, police have secured eight felony warrants against Harris. The charges include malicious wounding and utilizing a firearm while committing a felony. It is uncertain whether Harris has legal representation, as efforts to contact his family by phone have been unsuccessful.

Earlier statements from the university indicated that multiple suspects were being sought, although no further updates were provided by police on Saturday evening. University officials reassured the community that no immediate threat was detected, prompting the lifting of a temporary campus lockdown.

The devastating event, occurring around 1:30 a.m., triggered a lockdown as students were preparing for the upcoming academic year. This tragic shooting has had a profound impact on the university and surrounding community.

It happened near the university’s Quad Annexes, where campus police and Chesterfield County officers discovered five people suffering from gunshot wounds outside campus dormitories.

According to the university’s website, residence halls opened for students a week ago, and classes resume on Monday. Many students had just completed the university’s “New Trojans Experience” for incoming students.

“We recognize the concern this incident has caused among our students, parents, alumni, friends, and the broader VSU community,” the university statement said. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority.”

The campus had a large law enforcement presence on Saturday morning, and the university informed students that they should monitor their email for additional safety measures and information about support services. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office were assisting, county police said.

Virginia State University is a historically Black university located in Ettrick, Virginia, about 24 miles south of the state capital of Richmond. The public university has about 5,700 students and was the first fully state-supported four-year college for Black Americans. Most of its students are undergraduates.

The university has grown in recent years while attempting to improve safety and retain its historic charm, said Arthur Fridrich, the university’s former director of distance education, who lives near the campus and visits regularly. A shooting like this just as students return for classes is heartbreaking for the community, he said.

“To start a new year with this event is very tragic. It casts a shadow in the minds of all students, and for some it will be difficult to rid their minds of this term,” Fridrich said. “For those that were shot, my heart bleeds. I hope that they all mend and somehow do not let this event define their lives.”
