Trump Administration Intervenes in Controversial Surrogate Birth Abortion Case

0

The Trump administration has stepped into a poignant legal clash over a surrogate’s determination to save a child diagnosed with a serious heart condition, going against the biological parents’ decision to terminate the pregnancy.

According to the New York Post, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights has issued a stern directive to hospitals in Texas, mandating that they provide essential medical care to the newborn. The baby, delivered by McKenna West, is at the center of this heart-wrenching narrative.

Despite requests from biological parents Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed, West delivered the child, whom she has affectionately named Baby Gabriel, in Dallas on a recent Wednesday.

Gilkar and Ahmed had initially urged West to end the pregnancy upon learning their unborn child was afflicted with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition that, while serious, is addressable.

Determined to give the child a chance at life, West traveled to Texas to deliver him. Her efforts have garnered the support of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has successfully obtained a court order guaranteeing that Baby Gabriel receives necessary medical treatment post-birth.

Now Trump officials have thrown their support behind the order and said that they would be sending a letter to Children’s Medical Center for Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center over the baby’s medical treatment.

The HHS’ civil rights office informed the two Texas hospitals that federal law prohibits withholding medical treatment based on a person’s disability.

Those federal protections, which included the withholding of treatment based on a judgement that the life of someone with a disability has less value or would be a burden on others, extend to decisions involving life-sustaining treatment, HHS told Fox News.

According to the outlet, HHS said it would be monitoring Gabriel’s case and offering technical assistance to both hospitals as they determine his care.

The agency also urged the hospitals to seek a review by an infant care committee should doctors withhold or withdraw medical treatment, Fox reported.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton had also told UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas of their legal obligations to provide Gabriel with ‘medically necessary, life-saving care upon birth,’ according to the outlet.

‘The court has made the right decision in immediately acting to protect baby Gabriel’s life and ensure he receives the care he deserves,’ Paxton said following a court order ensuring Gabriel’s after-birth care.

‘My office utilized every tool at our disposal to protect life, and we will not back down in continuing to support baby Gabriel’s well-being. Every child in our state deserves to be cared for and protected, and that’s exactly what I’ll fight for.’

Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for Turning Point USA, also supported West and dubbed her a ‘hero’ on X.

‘McKenna West is a hero in my book. She saved this baby’s life, and I am praying she gets to keep baby Gabriel. That baby cannot go back to the California couple who wanted him dead. Surrogacy is weird and unnatural in the first place, so I default to a simple logic: Your womb, your baby,’ he wrote.

The couple told TMZ on Thursday that they have physical custody of the child and their lawyer, Lee Bunder, told the outlet that Gabriel is receiving medical care in their custody.

Bunder added that his clients are focused on the baby’s health and following the advice of medical professionals about treatment for his hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

The couple became concerned after a 20-week ultrasound revealed that he would have the birth defect.

West did some research and found a hospital in Dallas that has had a 100 percent success rate in recent years with the first of three surgeries a baby would need right after birth.

Babies who undergo that first surgery have a 75 percent chance of making it to the age of five, and those who make it to their first birthday have a 90 percent chance of making it to the age of 18, according to New York Presbyterian Hospital.

West then told her contacts at Connecticut-based Worldwide Surrogacy Specialist LLC that she could live with a friend in Texas to mitigate costs to Gilkar and Ahmed.

But a liaison at the agency told her the couple was still concerned about the baby’s future quality of life living with the heart condition.

West then received a call from the liaison telling her the parents officially requested she undergo an abortion – something she was morally against.

As she would be 24 weeks pregnant at the time of the abortion, West said in court documents she was appalled at the idea that doctors would inject the baby with ‘a solution that will stop his heart and then he’ll be literally ripped apart and dismembered as he’s taken from [her] uterus.’

Although West secured the right for Gabriel to receive medical treatment after birth, she was also forbidden from having any contact with him once he arrived

As West continued to struggle with the biological parents’ request, her brother reached out to her and offered to adopt the child.

West then flew down to Texas to deliver the child and seek legal protections, as Texas state law recognizes anyone who gives birth in the state as the legal mother of that child.

However, Tuesday’s ruling forbids her from making any medical decisions for or on behalf of the child and states the child’s biological parents can make medical decisions on behalf of their son.

The two parties are now due back in court on August 25.

MEMORISE: My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. – Psalm 89:34 (KJV)

READ: Genesis 17:1-18 (KJV)

1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.

3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.

6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations.

10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.

16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 33-36

Open Heaven 14 August 2026 MESSAGE

In today’s Bible reading, God made a covenant with Abram and promised to make him a father of many nations, then changed his name to Abraham. God never lies, so all the promises that He made to Abraham were fulfilled. Numbers 23:19 says: “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” When God makes a covenant with a person, He always fulfils His part, and this gives the fellow access to everything he or she will ever need on earth. These things include long life, prosperity, favour, blessings, joy, peace, divine health, and everything good. The devil, on the other hand, is unable to keep any covenant he makes. He breaks his promises at will because he is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).

People often enter into covenants with other parties to receive something from them, while also giving something in return. The real weight of a covenant, however, comes when one of the parties involved is unable to fulfil their obligations. In most cases, a heavy weight of death is the consequence for breaking a covenant.

When people join secret societies, they enter into covenants. When they do not do the things they are asked to do in the group, the penalty is usually death. You might be asking yourself, “Why would anybody want to join a cult knowing that it could lead to their death?” Some people claim that they join secret societies because they need protection, while others say that it is for prosperity and other benefits. It is important to note that the devil lures them into such societies with the promise of those things, but in return, he takes their souls and destroys them. What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul (Matthew 16:26)? A soul is too heavy a weight for anyone to surrender to the devil.

Beloved, do not allow the devil to tempt you into establishing an evil covenant with empty promises, and if you have entered into any covenant with hell and signed a pact with satan, Jesus can set you free if you run to Him. He will not cast away anyone who comes to Him (John 6:37). I pray that the Lord will establish His covenant of peace with you and your household, in Jesus’ name.

of Christ, our King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

When the howling storms of doubt and
fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

3 Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood
For me,
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes
Free,
Standing on the promises of God.

DCLM Daily Manna 14 August 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Unified In Prayer

TOPIC – Unified In Prayer (DCLM Daily Manna 14 August 2026)

KEY VERSE: These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren – Acts 1:14

TEXT: Acts 1:12-14 (KJV)

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

In 2010, 33 miners were trapped underground for 69 days in a collapsed mine in Chile. As the world watched, the miners did something remarkable: they prayed together, uniting in faith despite their dire situation. Their shared prayers provided strength, hope, and a sense of solidarity that helped them endure the darkness until rescue came. A team unified in prayer to God will always receive divine intervention.

In our text, we see a small yet significant gathering of believers returning to Jerusalem after Jesus’ ascension. Among them were the eleven remaining apostles, Mary, the mother of Jesus, and His brothers. Together, they entered an upper room and devoted themselves to prayer, waiting for the fulfilment of Jesus’ promise, the coming of the Holy Spirit. The narrative paints a vivid picture of unity, perseverance, and expectation. These were not people idly passing the time or withdrawing in fear. They were engaged in fervent, collective prayer, clinging to their faith and to each other as they awaited God’s next move. In a time of uncertainty and transition, prayer became their anchor. This moment of unified devotion was pivotal, setting the stage for the transformative event that would follow, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

True Christians must recognise the awesome power and possibilities inherent in unified prayer, especially during the times of waiting, uncertainty, or challenge. The present world around us is becoming increasingly fragmented, where many live individualistic lives, thus neglecting genuine joint efforts in prayer and communion with God. We are today, once again, reminded of the strength that comes from praying together in one accord as believers. Whether in families, small groups or churches, corporate prayer has the power to deepen faith, foster unity, and prepare hearts for God’s work.

When we face spiritual, social, and personal challenges, the example of those early Christians offers a challenge: to come together, set aside differences, and seek God with one mind and heart. How powerful the church will be today if its members all unite in prayers unto the God of possibilities.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
United prayer is an irresistible force

Rhapsody Of Realities 14 August 2026: You’re A Spirit Being

Rhapsody Of Realities 14 August 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): You’re A Spirit Being

TOPIC: You’re A Spirit Being (Rhapsody of Realities 14 August 2026)

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ – 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

To live effectively as a Christian, you must understand your true nature and identity. If you define yourself merely by what you see in the mirror or what you feel in your body, you’ll be limited to the natural realm. But the Word reveals something deeper: you’re a spirit being, created in the image of God, living in a body, and expressing yourself through a soul.

This is foundational to understanding your life in Christ. The Bible says, “…the body without the spirit is dead…” (James 2:26). The real you is the spirit. The body is the house where the spirit lives. When the spirit departs, the body ceases to function. It may still be complete in form, but it’s lifeless, because the real person, the spirit, is gone.

This is why you’re not to relate to life through your senses; live from inside out. Don’t try to reach God externally; relate to Him from your spirit; you’re alive to Him from your spirit. Jesus said, “…that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). When you were born again, your spirit was recreated. You didn’t become a spirit; you were always a spirit. But now, you’re a God-born spirit, alive with eternal life.

The Apostle Paul also affirms, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6). Your life is designed to be lived from the spirit, not from the senses. Many struggle because they’re more conscious of their body than their spirit; no! Live from your spirit. Speak from your spirit.

Your spirit knows God; that’s where the light of God is, that’s where the Holy Spirit lives. You’re one spirit with the Lord. The Bible says, “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:17). Live with this consciousness that you’re a spirit being, alive with the life of God. Therefore, today, express His nature and the fullness of His life in you.

PRAYER

Dear Father, you are great and greatly to be praised; thank you for the life of Christ in me. I’m alive unto you and unto the realities of the Kingdom. I live from my spirit, expressing your life and nature; therefore, I walk in victory, dominion and excellence in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

UAE Tankers Attacked in Strait of Hormuz: Key Updates from the Middle East

The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of launching drone strikes on two tankers managed by a state-owned oil enterprise as they navigated the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. On Friday, UAE officials characterized these assaults as acts of piracy. Although the drone attacks didn’t result in any injuries, they serve as a stark reminder of the perils awaiting vessels transporting goods through this crucial maritime route, which links the Persian Gulf to international waters and remains tightly monitored by Iran.

Stay informed on the latest events in the broader Middle Eastern conflict and the ongoing tensions with Iran. We provide in-depth coverage of these issues on our site.

Drone strikes disrupt the passage of two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to reports from ADNOC, the state-owned oil and gas giant based in Abu Dhabi, two of its tankers were targeted on Thursday evening as they moved through the Strait of Hormuz. The company assured that no injuries were reported and confirmed that “the situation has been brought under control.”

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center, part of the British military, stated that two vessels sustained minor damage from drone attacks during their transit of the Strait of Hormuz. While not explicitly naming ADNOC’s ships, the described incident seems to match the situation reported by the UAE oil company.

The UAE’s Foreign Ministry blamed the attacks on Iran and said they were a “flagrant violation” of the United Nations’ principles of freedom of navigation.

“Targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail represents acts of piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, and constitutes a direct threat to the stability of the region, its peoples, and global energy security,” the Foreign Ministry said.

There was no immediate response from Iran.

Kushner will head to Middle East for talks on Gaza

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and negotiator Jared Kushner will travel to the Middle East next week to try to advance plans for an end to the conflict in Gaza after a deal recently announced by the Trump administration ran into Israeli opposition.

An official with the Board of Peace, the body Trump established to oversee the fragile ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, said Kushner, board high representative Nickolay Mladenov, and executive board member and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair would arrive in Israel on Sunday.

The group will then travel to Cairo, where meetings of a Palestinian technocratic group set to assume control of Gaza under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal have been taking place for the past several months, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because planning for details of the trip has not yet been finalized,

The trip was reported earlier by Axios.

Daycare Owner Charged After Infant Suffers Severe Brain Injury Requiring Surgery

0

Safe Haven Daycare located in Indianapolis, Indiana (Google Maps).

In a shocking case of alleged child abuse, an Indiana daycare proprietor is accused of inflicting a severe head injury on a 10-month-old, necessitating the removal of part of the infant’s skull by medical professionals.

The daycare owner, 50-year-old Lawanda Hardnett-Rados, has been charged with child neglect resulting in serious bodily harm, and battery causing severe injury. The incident took place at Safe Haven Daycare, situated in the 3300 block of North Kenwood Avenue in Indianapolis, according to court records.

Documents reveal that authorities were alerted on March 13 when the infant became unresponsive at the home-based daycare. Emergency services transported him to the hospital, where doctors performed urgent surgery to alleviate swelling and excise portions of his skull, the arrest affidavit disclosed.

Following the procedure, the baby was placed in a medically induced coma. Investigators suspect Hardnett-Rados may have either slammed the child or subjected him to violent shaking.

The boy’s mother reportedly told investigators she dropped her son off at the daycare around 5 a.m. When she returned 12 hours later, one of the other children said her son was not breathing. She rushed into the home and saw the suspect conducting CPR. The mom explained the boy had no previous medical issues and he was fine when she dropped him off.

Cops say an employee watches a handful of babies and toddlers at the 24/7 daycare while Hardnett-Rados is at her main job. Hardnett-Rados takes over caring for the kids when she gets home around 5 p.m.

The employee told cops she watched the victim on the day in question and he seemed fine, although he was a little sleepy. The employee also said the suspect advised her to get an attorney, to which she responded that she didn’t need one because she hadn’t done anything wrong.

Hardnett-Rados said after the employee left, she knew that the boy’s mom was going to be picking him up soon so she put him in a playpen to get him ready to go.

“She described him as whiny and crying, but not his normal cry,” cops wrote. “She just said his cry was more of a whiny cry.”

Hardnett-Rados said the boy began shivering. She picked him up and he went limp, the affidavit said. He was not responding to her. She had someone call 911.

Doctors believed the injuries were inflicted after the employee left, making Hardnett-Rados responsible, cops wrote.

Detectives spoke with some of the older kids at the daycare who provided critical information. One child recalled Hardnett-Rados talking with her daughter about the incident. The daughter said she remembered the suspect taking the boy into a room when he was crying. Hardnett-Rados allegedly responded, “shut up before you make things worse.”

The child said Hardnett-Rados sometimes hits the kids with an open and closed fist, cops wrote.

Another child said she saw Hardnett-Rados grabbing the boy by the arm and carrying him to another room. The suspect looked “irritated” and told the boy to “be quiet and stop crying,” cops wrote. When she came out with the boy, he was no longer crying.

Hardnett-Rados is in the Marion County Jail. Her next court date is set for Friday.

The post Daycare owner caused brain bleed on 10-month-old so severe doctors had to remove part of his skull after she told him to ‘be quiet and stop crying,’ cops say first appeared on Law & Crime.

Reba McEntire and Rex Linn Navigating Wedding Planning Delays: Invitation Printing on Hold

Reba McEntire and her longtime partner, Rex Linn, are not in a hurry to walk down the aisle. Despite being engaged for nearly two years, fans are left wondering when the couple will finally say “I do.” McEntire recently shared that wedding preparations have not progressed much, with no date set for the big day. “We’re just waiting for an available moment to host the wedding,” she revealed to E! News on August 10. It seems they also haven’t finalized their guest list yet. She humorously added, “Get it planned. Print those invitations.”

Though the ceremony isn’t imminent, McEntire and Linn are thriving as a couple. Rex Linn even plays the role of McEntire’s love interest on “Happy’s Place,” ensuring they spend plenty of time together. “We love each other, but we like each other. We have fun,” McEntire added, highlighting the strength of their relationship.

Aside from the lengthy engagement, other factors have fueled speculation regarding their wedding. McEntire and Linn share a long history, having met decades before they started dating in 2020, and they went public with their engagement in September 2025. However, the proposal actually happened in December 2024, showing no rush to wed following the engagement. Linn admitted to Extra in April that enjoying their engagement suits them well, noting, “Marriage isn’t high on my list right now.”

Rex Linn puts his career first

Their shared commitment to their show “Happy’s Place” has also led to wedding delays. “We’re still waiting on a third season pickup from ‘Happy’s Place,'” McEntire explained to E! News in February regarding their stalled wedding plans. Interestingly, McEntire and Linn are comfortable placing their careers ahead of personal milestones. “He says, ‘Work comes first,'” added McEntire.

Even a few months later, McEntire echoed similar reasons for the nuptial delay, attributing the postponement to Linn’s professional commitments. “[The date is] kind of being pushed every time Rex gets a job,” she mentioned to Extra in May at a red carpet event with her fiancé. Although they’ve been together for six years, with nearly two years of engagement, they’re not concerned about the timeline. “Heck, we might be engaged 30 years before we get married, but we’re okay with that, too,” McEntire quipped, content with their leisurely approach.

The couple may appear to be stalling their wedding, but they have started outlining how they want their big day to look. Both McEntire and Linn want the ceremony to be infused with country-living flair. “We’ve got a great ranch in Tennessee. We’re going to have all of our animals there,” the “Cliffhanger” actor told Extra at an event in April. There may have been a consensus on the theme, but the pair had yet to make basic wedding-planning decisions. “I don’t think it’ll be too big. We might have a small wedding, and then possibly have a big party,” Linn added.

NYPD Officer Guilty: First Chokehold Conviction Post-Ban

0

A landmark decision unfolded on Thursday as a New York City Police Department officer was convicted of illegal restraint, including strangulation and a banned chokehold. This case marks the first conviction under the city’s 2020 legislation, which was introduced following the widespread outcry over the murder of George Floyd by officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis.

Officer Omar Habib faced conviction for violating a law that specifically prohibits certain physical restraint methods used by police. In addition to this, he was found guilty of a second-degree felony for strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.

The serious nature of the felony strangulation charge subjects Habib to a maximum potential sentence of seven years of imprisonment. Bronx Criminal Supreme Court Judge Cynthia Isales has denied him bail, emphasizing the severity of the offenses.

After his felony conviction, Habib, who had been previously suspended without pay, was officially dismissed from the force. His career with the NYPD, which began in 2007, ended as a legal consequence of his criminal actions, adhering strictly to regulatory requirements.

He was responding to a 911 call at a Bronx catering hall on July 28, 2023, when a drunk and disorderly man resisted arrest, according to Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark. Prosecutors said Habib put the man in a chokehold so tight that it impeded his breathing and circulation and caused him to lose consciousness.

Habib’s attorney argued during the trial that other factors could have caused the man to pass out, such as drinking without eating enough food.

Before his arrest, Habib had a history of substantiated misconduct complaints about excessive use of force and abusing his authority.

The Civilian Complaint Review Board substantiated an allegation that Habib used a chokehold in a separate 2017 encounter. Habib was also accused of lying under oath and tampering with evidence in a 2016 gun raid, resulting in several defendants withdrawing their guilty pleas.

The president of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, Patrick Hendry, denounced Thursday’s verdict.

The officer’s conviction was “further proof of a grim reality: every second police officers spend on this job puts them at risk of criminal prosecution, and pervasive anti-police propaganda has made it incredibly difficult to receive a fair trial,” the police union boss said, according to the New York Daily News.

Habib was charged under a 2020 city law that was passed after Floyd’s murder in May of that year, sparking racial justice protests and a push for police accountability across the country. The New York City measure criminalizes chokeholds and certain forms of pressure on an arrestee’s chest or back that compress the diaphragm while an officer is making or attempting an arrest.

The law was challenged by police unions but was upheld by New York state’s highest court in 2023.

Police use of chokeholds was already prohibited in most cases by NYPD policy when the law was enacted, but officers who used them were almost never prosecuted.

NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo lost his job but faced no criminal charges after a department disciplinary proceeding found that he used a prohibited chokehold on Eric Garner, who died during a 2014 arrest after repeatedly saying he could not breathe, fueling protests over police use of force.

Karmelo Anthony’s Legal Team Reaches Pre-Trial Agreement with Prosecutors in Austin Metcalf Case, Court Documents Reveal

Karmelo Anthony’s defense team struck a strategic deal with Texas prosecutors, known as a “gentleman’s agreement,” aimed at keeping certain evidence under wraps during his trial. This move is part of Anthony’s ongoing effort to overturn his conviction for the murder of Austin Metcalf.

This agreement sought to focus the trial strictly on events that transpired “under the tent” on April 2, 2025. This is a reference to the stabbing incident at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, according to documents reviewed by the Daily Mail.

Described in legal documents, the “gentleman’s agreement” prevented both defense and prosecution from delving into the backgrounds and personal histories of both Metcalf and Anthony.

Filed in recent weeks, court papers reveal Anthony’s new legal team argued the initial defense avoided discussing the significant domestic violence Anthony had witnessed and endured within his family, due to this agreement.

Mike Howard, representing Anthony during his murder trial, concurred not to present evidence related to the character, reputation, or unrelated violent and racially charged actions of the Metcalf twins, according to the court documents.

Prosecutors wouldn’t mention Anthony’s school disciplinary history and wouldn’t use his cellphone records under the terms of the agreement.

The deal also imposed restrictions on Anthony’s character witnesses at the trial, according to the outlet.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin Metcalf’s father, refused to comment “on ongoing court proceedings,” when approached by the Mail.

“I and the entire prosecution team conducted this trial ethically and in full compliance with the Court’s rulings and any agreements with defense counsel,” Bill Wirskye,  the First Assistant at Collin County District Attorney’s Office, told KXAS-TV last month after news of the “gentleman’s agreement” emerged.

The agreement emerged as Anthony’s team of civil rights attorneys – including veteran appellate attorney Russell Wilson, civil rights lawyer Brooke Cluse from Ben Crump Law – try to secure a fresh trial.

Anthony’s lawyers are gearing up for a recusal hearing which will take place on Wednesday in McKinney, Texas.

They are trying to discharge Judge John Roach – who oversaw 19-year-old Anthony’s murder trial – and are claiming his public comments infringed judicial impartiality.

Roach, an elected judge, stood by his decision not to allow cameras into the courtroom as he spoke about the case two days after Anthony was sentenced.

“Yes, it was an easy decision. I’ll tell you why, my primary goal in every case is to make sure the defendant and the prosecution get a fair trial. Period,” he emphatically told WFAA on June 11.

“I have seen from other cases around the country where cameras in the courtroom changed the way that the judge acted, the lawyers act, [and] some of the witnesses acted.

“We were not going to have that here.”

Roach also said the jury came to the correct conclusion because “they were picked based upon the law.”

“They listened to the facts, it happened in this courtroom, and they got a verdict,” the judge, who is retiring on Dec. 31, added.

If Roach is recused, then Anthony’s defense team would file a motion for a new trial, expected to be the following day.

This will be ruled on by August 24. Under Texas law, a court has 75 days from the date of sentencing to rule on a new trial motion. The motion is denied if a judge doesn’t act.

Inspiring Couple of 37 Children Open Their Hearts to More Adoptions

In a surprising revelation, a couple with an astonishing family of 37 children shared insights into their extraordinary lives and hinted at the possibility of welcoming even more members. The duo opened up about the challenges and triumphs of parenting such a large brood.

Residing in Falling Waters, West Virginia, Paul and Jeane Briggs have a remarkable story that includes adopting 32 children alongside the five they have biologically. Their journey is a testament to the power and reach of familial love.

The couple, Paul, aged 71, and Jeane, 69, admitted that managing the diverse needs of children ranging from ages 10 to 47 isn’t a walk in the park. Despite the complexities, they’re not ruling out the chance of expanding their family further.

“If someone knocked on my door with a child… I’d prefer one that’s not a baby,” Jeane humorously remarked in an interview with People, capturing her candid disposition.

Reflecting on their beginnings, Paul shared that when they tied the knot back in 1976—five years after their first meeting at a youth Methodist leaders’ conference—such a large family was never part of their dreams.

According to the dad-of-37, it just happened.

‘There was never any talk of a mega-family,’ he said. ‘There was never this, “Well, let’s try to get to this number or that number.” It was really just a series of events that continued to bring more children in.’

He explained that after welcoming five biological kids, they decided to adopt a blind baby boy from Mexico who had been ‘abandoned.’

After that, they became devoted to taking care of children in need, particularly, those who are older or hard to place because of disabilities or illnesses.

They’ve cared for children with cancer, polio, scoliosis, leg deformities, kidney problems, learning disabilities and autism, among other medical conditions.

They currently have 14 kids living in their 5,000-plus-square-foot-home, and Paul told People that everyone has set chores they have to do to keep things running smoothly.

‘When you have that many people under one roof, if they don’t have anything to do, they’re going to find something to do,’ he said.

Grocery shopping requires a ‘structured routine,’ and the older children take turns helping as ‘Jeane’s assistants.’

Cooking for so many people is a massive task, but Jeane vowed that food is her ‘love language’ so she enjoys it.

They have two stoves and several fridges and freezers in the home to store all of the food.

Despite the difficulties, Paul and Jeane have insisted that they’ve mastered taking care of such a busy household.

‘We’ve heard parents joke that they struggle to get one or two children to church on time, while our entire family regularly arrives early,’ they told People.

Their daughter Mary Kate, 43, admitted that having so many siblings ‘was a lot’ while she was growing up, but added that it was ‘always very positive.’

She has now taken on a similar lifestyle and has 14 kids of her own.

‘Through it all, I have only the utmost regard for my parents. They have handled it very well and they’ve been thrown a lot,’ she gushed.

‘But because of how they’ve lived and what they’ve seen and how they’ve handled every situation, it’s truly remarkable.’

Back in 2014, the couple revealed to Today that they spend roughly $52,000 a year on groceries alone.

At the time, Paul said he had a ‘very, very good job’ with a credit card processing company, while Jeane, who has a background in nursing and teaching, was a stay-at-home mom.

He added that his employer pays the family $10,000 for every child they adopt.

‘I enjoy it. This is my career. I say to my kids, you’re the very air I breathe so I need you, I need that oxygen,’ Jeane gushed of being a stay-at-home mom at the time.
