Tragic U-Haul Shooting: Co-Worker Killed in Shift Dispute

0

In a shocking turn of events at a Nashville U-Haul location, an employee is accused of fatally shooting his 56-year-old colleague over a heated exchange about a drink. According to police, the incident escalated quickly from a verbal dispute to gunfire.

On August 5, law enforcement officers detained 23-year-old Devin Rice after he allegedly took the life of Fredrick Lytton at the U-Haul store in Nashville, Tennessee. Lytton succumbed to his injuries shortly after he was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department reported that during an interrogation, Rice confessed to engaging in a dispute with Lytton over a beverage, which tragically ended with Rice pulling the trigger.

As police continue their investigation, Devin Rice, 23, faces charges of criminal homicide following the fatal encounter at the Nashville U-Haul. (MNPD)

Authorities have accused Rice of drawing a firearm and discharging several rounds at Lytton, resulting in his tragic death.

Officials said Rice fled the area after allegedly shooting Lytton, but was later arrested. Rice was arrested on charges of criminal homicide.

Joshua Houghtaylen, who lives in the area of the shooting, told WSMV that crime is getting worse and putting the onus on the city’s police to act.

“The crime here in Nashville is getting really bad,” Houghtaylen said. “Police need to do a better job at getting the guns off the street because there’s a lot of shootings in Nashville.”

In a statement to News Media, Jeff Porter, U-Haul area district vice president of Tennessee, said, “We are shocked and deeply saddened by what occurred. Our concern right now is being there to support the victim’s family and our Team Members affected by this tragic event.”

An obituary for Lytton states he’ll be remembered for “his strong spirit, perseverance, and love of life. A dedicated cross-country truck driver, Fred enjoyed the open road, NASCAR, animals, and classic country music.”

11-Year-Old’s Stage 4 Cancer Misdiagnosis: Doctors Mistook Deadly Symptoms for Tonsillitis

0

An 11-year-old girl in the UK has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of childhood cancer, a diagnosis that came only after her symptoms were initially misinterpreted as tonsillitis by doctors.

While on holiday in Devon, England last May, Armaie Burrows-Pitt began to suffer from extreme fatigue and a significant loss of appetite, raising concerns for her health.

Her worried mother, Nikki, and stepfather, Andy, were assured by general practitioners that Armaie was simply dealing with tonsillitis. The doctors prescribed antibiotics, insisting she was in good health otherwise.

However, as Armaie’s condition showed no signs of improvement, her mother took decisive action. Nikki brought her daughter, affectionately called Melly by family, to Warwick Hospital and insisted on a blood test to determine the cause of her illness.

At the hospital, doctors conducted additional tests, initially suspecting sepsis, tuberculosis, or an infection linked to a family trip to Egypt earlier that year in February.

But after 15 days in the hospital, she was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where doctors eventually diagnosed her with Burkitt lymphoma — a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.

Mom-of-two Nikki, 38, said: “We went to Devon at the end of May and she had us all worried as we could see she was going downhill.

“She was tired and didn’t want to play much. She would take herself off to the corner of the park.

“That all started at the end of May. Then on May 31 my mom took her to Warwick A&E.

“She didn’t want to talk, walk or eat — she just wanted to lie down.

“She got told it was just a viral infection at Warwick, then I took her to a GP [general practitioner] on June 2 and the doctors told me it was tonsillitis.

“I was told she was perfectly fit and healthy by the GP, but we knew she wasn’t as she’s such a fit and active young girl who’s full of energy usually.

“Then I took her back to Warwick to be told it was tonsillitis again and to finish the antibiotics, but we knew it was something more.”

Nikki said she knew Armaie wasn’t just suffering from a virus as the 11-year-old gymnast was left virtually bed-bound and unable to eat.

She thought maybe it could have been a gymnastics injury she suffered when she began to also complain of pain in her shin and groin.

Nikki added: “We then went back to Warwick on June 10, and I said: ‘I’m not leaving until you do a blood test’.

“They did one and admitted her. They thought it was sepsis, TB, or an infection from Egypt from when we went in February.

“She spent 15 days there — Warwick was being led by Birmingham Children’s Hospital as they thought it was something serious before she was moved there.

“She was eventually diagnosed on July 3 with Stage 4 Burkitt lymphoma, after they thought it was an infection.”

Burkitt lymphoma is a rare, fast-growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that starts in white blood cells — specifically the B-cells.

The aggressive cancer, which primarily affects children, can multiply very quickly before spreading through the body.

Armaie is Stage 4 with the disease having spread to her spleen, liver and bone marrow.

Nikki said: “It was all very traumatizing, having your daughter in hospital and not knowing what’s wrong with her for all those weeks.

“It was very frustrating because every single GP I saw kept saying she was fine.

“She’s never seen a doctor in her life and has never been to a hospital, I knew she wasn’t right.

“She had all these symptoms that didn’t necessarily relate to lymphoma.

“It’s very frustrating to be told she’s okay when she’s not.

“She wouldn’t get out of bed, she didn’t want to walk or eat or drink — it’s not normal for a fit and active child to be completely wiped out.

“Children with symptoms like this probably get dismissed, which is frustrating.

“You’d think they would assume the worst case scenario first and rule it out, so to be left three or four weeks without a diagnosis was heartbreaking.

“The first symptom was a neck pain which is why they thought it was meningitis in the hospital.

“Then she had a pain in her shin, then her groin and I thought it could’ve been her gymnastics as a couple of weeks before she had an accident.

“The symptoms would come and go. When they told me it was tonsillitis I did wonder if it was something more sinister.”

Now the family are fundraising to cover costs while Armaie, undergoes six months of gruelling chemotherapy.

Her aunt Emma Whyte, 36, added: “The main aim is to take Melly on lots of trips this year, we’ve had to cancel a lot of holidays because of this.

“She wants to go to Disney World Florida and Lapland.

“But we also want to give back to Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House for all their work.

“Melly’s stepdad is staying there and her mum is staying there, so it would be nice to give back to them.

“I think I put $675 as the target but we’re nearly on $12,150.

“In a strange way, it’s brought us all together in the worst time imaginable.”

DSA Member’s Bold Case for Defunding Police Goes Viral

0

A leading figure within the Democratic Socialists of America found herself on the spot, sidestepping questions on their stance to eliminate police and prisons regarding accountability for rapists.

During a discussion with NBC Los Angeles anchor Conan Nolan, Dr. Frances Gill, a member of the political committee, was questioned about a hypothetical scenario involving his daughter being sexually assaulted under the Democratic Socialists’ ideal system, which advocates for defunding the police and scrapping the prison network entirely.

Nolan pointedly inquired, “If my daughter is assaulted and raped, is there any body that would pursue her attacker and ensure justice is served?”

While Gill insisted that a perpetrator would indeed be held accountable, her ensuing explanation veered off into discussing crime’s underlying causes without directly addressing Nolan’s specific concerns, as she preferred to ‘steer clear of hypothetical scenarios and address the existing reality.’

She further remarked, “We’re investing exorbitant sums on law enforcement, yet failing to allocate resources towards initiatives that genuinely enhance public safety and security feelings.”

‘Which is things like actually well-lit streets. The street lights in Los Angeles. Everybody agrees it’s a huge problem.’

Gill appeared to refer to the city’s backlog of repairs, which has left tens of thousands of streetlights without power due to widespread theft of copper wire.

She went on to say that substance abuse treatment needs to be funded to mitigate crime instead of funneling money into police departments.

‘We’re not doing anything about the root causes,’ Gill argued.

Nolan then moved on to a question about Michigan Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who is not a DSA member but has a progressive platform.

A clip of Gill’s answer went viral, prompting former mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt to use it to take aim at his rival, Nithya Raman.

‘Nithya Raman’s partner at DSA LA says their goal is to completely abolish police & prisons. When asked what happens if a girl gets raped? Her answer? “I want to talk about street lights,”‘ Pratt wrote.

Raman is also a DSA member but appears to have taken a different stance on policing. She won a runoff primary race in June and will face off against fellow Democrat and incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in the fall.

Raman was hailed as the most progressive of the three candidates and was the first DSA member elected to the City Council.

She had previously campaigned on defunding the police but walked back the stance, telling NBC Los Angeles in February that, if elected, she would maintain the LAPD’s size.

Raman is now campaigning on a three-point public safety plan, including integrating unarmed officers into 911 calls, restoring accountability and investing in prevention.

Gill declined to say whether she supported Raman’s mayoral run during her recent NBC interview.

She clarified that the DSA is still in the process of endorsing a candidate for the general election, adding that it was ‘still possible’ Raman would receive an endorsement.

‘There are a lot of members who are excited about Nithya,’ Gill added. When asked if she was personally excited about Raman, she responded, ‘I’m going to defer to our organizational process.’

DSA’s official political platform on policing is to ‘defund the police by rejecting any expansion to police budgets or scope of enforcement while cutting budgets annually towards zero.’

DSA also advocates for the freedom of all incarcerated people, demilitarizing the police, and investing in community self-governance.

The Daily Mail has reached out to DSA and Raman’s campaign for comment.

Eleven Indicted in Alleged Sham Marriage Scheme for Chinese Green Card Fraud

0

Washington — In a significant crackdown, the Justice Department has pressed criminal charges against 11 individuals on Wednesday, accusing them of orchestrating a complex “extensive marriage fraud scheme” that involved orchestrating over 1,000 fake marriages between Chinese nationals and U.S. citizens.

The allegations, outlined in a comprehensive 21-page indictment filed in the Southern District of New York, detail how this fraudulent operation was conducted over a decade from 2016 to 2026. Key figures named in facilitating this scheme include Amy Cheng, Xiao Mei Chan, and Gang Zheng.

According to the indictment, these arranged marriages were primarily designed to help Chinese nationals secure green cards, thereby gaining lawful residency in the United States.

The defendants reportedly capitalized on a network involving word of mouth, social media platforms, and various advertising methods to promote these fraudulent immigration services. Their primary clientele were citizens from the People’s Republic of China, whom they promised to match in fake marriages, thus facilitating fraudulent applications for permanent residency in the U.S.

The indictment further reveals that foreign nationals reportedly paid as much as $100,000 for assistance in entering into these sham marriages and applying for a Green Card. Meanwhile, the scheme facilitators allegedly profited handsomely, earning commissions reaching approximately $5,000 per arrangement.

The indictment included photos of alleged sham marriage ceremonies that prosecutors said the defendants submitted to U.S. immigration officials.

“In some cases, these sham wedding ceremonies were held at nearby restaurants, where the foreign nationals and United States citizens changed into traditional Chinese wedding attire, and the facilitator, recruiter, foreign national, and United States citizen invited friends and family to create the appearance of a legitimate wedding,” the indictment said.

While many of the recruiters operated in New York, the indictment alleged they orchestrated the marriages throughout the United States and abroad, in places such as Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Vanuatu, and the People’s Republic of China.

Anthropic Implements AI Watermarking to Align with New EU Regulations

0

Dario Amodei’s Anthropic has introduced watermarks to content crafted by their AI systems, responding to stringent European transparency regulations—a move that hasn’t been universally popular among users.

Famed for its Claude chatbot, the AI powerhouse cited the European Union AI Act’s transparency guidelines as the catalyst for this change, aimed at helping individuals differentiate between content created by humans and AI. This new law came into effect on August 2.

According to Anthropic’s support documentation, these watermarks are embedded automatically in all text, images, and files generated by their AI technology.

Dario Amodei, co-founder and chief executive officer of Anthropic, during an interview on "The Circuit with Emily Chang" at Anthropic's headquarters in San Francisco, California, on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

“Whenever a Claude-supported model produces text, an invisible watermark is seamlessly integrated into the text,” reads a statement on the company’s site. “This mark won’t be visible and won’t alter the content’s meaning, quality, or clarity.”

Additionally, Anthropic notes that these watermarks will “remain attached to the text when duplicated and pasted into other documents, potentially enduring some levels of editing.”

The watermarks will be implemented “wherever Claude is offered, worldwide,” including within the Claude Platform API, Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Claude Tag.

Anthropic acknowledged that its detection program has “limitations” and may not always identify AI-generated content, especially in cases where text has been “heavily edited, paraphrased, translated, or mixed into other writing” or the “passage is very short.”

The European Commission, the EU’s digital watchdog, has said it had “strong backing” from the tech industry in its push to clearly label AI-generated content so that users aren’t misled.

As of July 31, the EU had secured commitments from nearly 200 companies to comply with its transparency rules.

Aside from Anthropic, AI giants like Sam Altman’s OpenAI, Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, Google and Microsoft all signed on to the pledge.

“By signing the code, providers and deployers of generative AI systems signal their intention to promote public trust in AI and to mitigate deception and misinformation,” the EU said in a press release.

The efforts by Anthropic and other companies come amid heightened concerns about the rise of so-called “AI slop” and AI-generated content being passed off as authentic.

Last month, a debut novelist’s $2 million book deal was canceled after a publisher became concerned that he had used AI to write the manuscript.

Still, Anthropic’s new policy irked some commenters, with one calling it “total bulls–t.”

Others pointed out that tech-savvy consumers may be able to find workarounds.

It’s “hard to see what Claude’s watermarking approach really solves,” one person wrote on X.

“There are already plenty of free and open-source models without watermarks, so anyone who really wants to avoid them can simply use something else.”

Tragic Romance: Mother’s Fatal Decision to Reconcile with Ex Leads to Their Deaths

0

In a chilling incident that rocked a quiet Florida community, a mother was tragically abducted and murdered by her ex-boyfriend, a sheriff’s deputy, who later took his own life, authorities reveal.

This heartbreaking event unfolded in Hudson, a suburb north of Tampa, as the victim returned home with her daughters, aged nine and twelve, after a relaxing day at the beach, officials reported.

Awaiting them outside was her former partner, 47-year-old Pinellas County Sheriff’s Deputy Troy Savetz. Social media accounts suggest their relationship had been tumultuous and sporadic over time.

An argument ensued over retrieving some of Savetz’s belongings, notably a television, which quickly escalated. In a devastating turn, Savetz abducted the woman in the presence of her young daughters, drove her to another location, and fatally shot her before committing suicide, as detailed by Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco during a press briefing.

Authorities have not officially disclosed the identity of the victim, but heartfelt messages and tributes on social media identify her as Mandy Fackler, a 39-year-old real estate professional, leaving her community in mourning.

On March 24, Fackler had posted selfies with Savetz in which the two were holding matching mugs. In the post, she discussed giving the deputy another chance.

‘Instead of growing through pain and moving on from each other, maybe we’re meant to grow with each other this time. Not battling one another – but standing side by side through it,’ she wrote.

She said the decision let her ‘feel safe. Held. Cared for. Not perfectly, but real.’

‘My babies wake up telling me how happy they are. Was well worth fighting my own dragon to figure this out and give them the harmony of a family unit I’d always wanted to be able to,’ the mother concluded her post.

But by the time Savetz showed up to Fackler’s house on Monday, about five months after the post, it appeared that their relationship had broken down again.

The awful sequence of events that led to the mother’s death was detailed by Sheriff Nocco during Monday night’s press conference.

The sheriff said that after the argument escalated, Fackler had attempted to call 911, but Savetz snatched the phone from her hand.

The mother told her daughters to go inside and call police, which they did. One of the girls spoke with the dispatcher at around 5.30pm, explaining what was happening and that Savetz was a Pinellas County deputy.

‘The child was absolutely, extremely brave in what she did and what she said,’ Nocco told reporters.

Pasco County deputies arrived and ‘cleared the house’ where the two girls were waiting, the sheriff said, but Fackler and Savetz were nowhere to be found.

The mother’s truck was still in the driveway with the door open and her phone still inside.

Savetz worked at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office for 14 years. His relationship with Fackler appears to have deteriorated again before the alleged murder-suicide

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office soon learned that Savetz had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s house in a rented car. The department notified several surrounding sheriff’s offices, including Pinellas County, as well as Florida Highway Patrol.

A large search ensued comprised of K-9 units, drones and ‘aviation units,’ Nocco said.

The search party received a ping from Savetz’s phone at a house about six miles away from Fackler’s residence, which they went to investigate.

A deputy spotted the rental car, and police flew a drone to look inside the vehicle at around 7pm. They found the bodies of Savetz and Fackler inside.

Nocco said that before the grisly discovery, a witness had seen Savetz driving down the street and had exchanged a thumbs up with the deputy.

The sheriff said that Savetz had taken his own life shortly after that exchange, but ‘we’re not sure when, at what point, the suspect killed the victim.’

Fackler’s daughters have been released to the care of their biological father.

During the press conference, Nocco took the opportunity to discuss ‘the scourge of domestic violence,’ and said: ‘The victim left behind two children… those two children, they should be starting off the week getting ready for school.’

Sheriff Nocco said Fackler's daughters are 'starting off this week getting ready for a sad life without their mother'

‘But what they’re doing is starting off this week getting ready for a sad life without their mother,’ he continued. ‘And I have a message for those two children.’

‘We listened to that 911 tape, and we know that your mother said to go inside, to save your lives and to call 911. You did exactly what your mom asked you to do,’ Nocco continued.

‘So know this, your mom is looking down from Heaven, and she’s so proud of you two because she did exactly what any parent would have wanted her children to do, and that’s to save their own lives and be safe.’

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri also spoke at the press conference and said that Savetz had worked at the department for 14 years, most recently assigned to the marine unit.

Gualtieri called his former deputy’s actions ‘inexplicable,’ adding: ‘There is no reason to have a permanent solution to a temporary problem.’

He claimed that Savetz had ‘obviously’ been suffering from ‘some mental health issues.’

Chelsea Secures Marc Cucurella Replacement; Aston Villa Targets West Ham Star Amid Inter Milan’s Djed Spence Pursuit

0

The buzz of the summer transfer window is upon us once more, remaining open until September 1. During this period, clubs are poised to make strategic signings to bolster their squads for the upcoming season.

Bringing you the latest updates, Simon Jones and the team from Daily Mail Sport keep us informed on all the major developments.

Inter close in on Spence

Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan are nearing the conclusion of talks over the potential transfer of Djed Spence.

The 26-year-old defender caught the eye of the Serie A winners before the World Cup, but his standout performances with the England national team further solidified Inter’s interest.

In June, Inter Milan set the wheels in motion, initiating discussions not only for Spence but also targeting his teammate Cristian Romero and free agent John Stones.

The latter has already joined and Inter also want to add Liverpool’s Curtis Jones.

Talks for Spence advanced this morning and the fee is around £26.9m plus £4m in add-ons and a 10percent sell on.

Spence has agreed to the move and is waiting for permission to travel.

The defender previously enjoyed time in Italy while on loan with Genoa for six months from January 2024.

Inter have also agreed a deal to send Davide Frattesi on loan to Lazio with an obligation to buy at £11m. They hope that deals gives them room to buy Jones from Liverpool but they will have to meet Liverpool’s valuation which has been £35m. Their last offer via intermediaries was considerably short of that.

Palace set to sell another youngster

Belgian top-flight side Cercle Brugge are working on a six-figure deal to sign Tayo Adaramola from Crystal Palace.

The 22-year-old Palace academy product is in the final year of his contract, having spent six loan spells away from the club since 2022 and impressed at Sheffield Wednesday in the second half of last season.

Adaramola made his senior international debut this year, starting in the Republic of Ireland’s 5-0 win over Grenada in May.

He is expected to become the third academy player sold this summer, with Mofe Jemide set to join Alverca after Danny Imray joined Wrexham for £5million.

Chelsea sign Marc Cucurella replacement

Chelsea have signed Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria on a five-year deal for a fee of around £16.3m plus add-ons.

The 28-year-old replaces Marc Cucurella, who signed for Real Madrid earlier this summer in a £55.8m deal.

After signing his five-year deal, Chavarria told club media: ‘I’m so excited to get started.

‘This is a dream for me as Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world. This is one of the best days of my life,’ added the 28-year-old.

‘It is a big opportunity but I am prepared and will work hard to help the team achieve success.

‘There are a lot of people who have helped me get to this moment and I have to thank my family. They have always supported me and today is only possible because of them.’

Toon press on with Benfica target

Newcastle United are pressing ahead with talks to sign Amar Dedic from Benfica.

The 23-year-old right-back played for new Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle at RB Salzburg.

Dedic has been capped 31 times by Bosnia and is valued around £25m.

Newcastle continue to work on a new midfielder too.

Camara never lies

Crystal Palace have held further talks with Monaco over 22-year-old midfielder Lamine Camara.

The clubs have been discussing a £40million deal for the Senegal international who has also been tracked by Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United.

Camara impressed in Monaco’s friendly against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Monaco are understood to want a fee in excess of £50m for the midfielder who has three years left on his contract.

Palace have also spoken about France international Youssouf Fofana who is available from AC Milan.

Wrexham’s Souttar bid

Wrexham are making a £7.5million bid for Leicester City defender Harry Souttar.

The Australia international is also a target for Sheffield United.

The Welsh side also made an offer for Viking Stavanger defender Henrik Falchener which was rejected.

Leicester manager Russell Martin, when asked about Souttar’s future, said: ‘He captained the team on Saturday. He will captain the team this Saturday. He’s been amazing since we’ve been in.

‘Since he came back from the World Cup, he’s a proper character. So it wouldn’t surprise me that people are interested in him.

‘As far as we’ve had a couple of bids, but they were nowhere near the valuation of the club and what we value him at.

‘So that might change. Who knows? But whilst he’s here, and I’ve said this to everyone, we’ve had other people who have had interest from us, other players, and we’ve had bids and all that sort of stuff, and lots of talk around different players.’

Villa Wan him

Aston Villa are discussing a move for West Ham right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The 28-year-old is ready to leave West Ham to stay in the top flight and has been considered as a new addition by a number of clubs including Arsenal but Villa are understood to be in pole position.

The Congo international has also been linked with Everton but manager David Moyes is exploring other options.

Villa are in the process of signing Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid to strengthen their left back options and now Wan-Bissaka looks a strong option for their right-back berth.

They have previously discussed Emerson Royal at Flamengo.

The Eagle has landed… again!

Evann Guessand has rejoined Crystal Palace on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.

Guessand spent the second half of last season on loan at Selhurst Park, playing 14 times as Palace won the UEFA Conference League.

Palace chose not to exercise his option to buy at the end of last season’s loan but remained open to the possibility of Guessand returning on loan. This switch also includes an option to buy.

Palace initially chased the Ivorian on a permanent deal last summer, but he opted to join Aston Villa – where he made just 21 appearances – in a £30million deal from Nice.

Rejoining Palace, Guessand said: ‘I’m so happy to be here. I already have good memories here – but I think it’s only the beginning. I hope many more are coming.’

Texas Fugitive Mom Captured in Mexico After 30-Year Manhunt for Daughter’s Murder

Ending a decades-long international manhunt, law enforcement officials captured a Texas woman in Mexico, nearly 30 years after she dodged trial for the murder of her 3-year-old daughter. The apprehension closes a chilling chapter that began in 1997.

According to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office, 48-year-old Maria Narez was detained on Saturday, the result of a coordinated international collaboration among law enforcement agencies.

Authorities originally arrested Narez in Tarrant County back in 1996. She stood accused of the grave crime of murdering her daughter, Kasandra L. White, who was just 3 years old at the time.

FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth obtained records detailing the harrowing allegations against Narez. She reportedly killed the young girl through a vicious assault, involving actions like shaking, striking with an unidentified object, and hurling her against a wall.

Her bail was initially set at $500,000 when the complaint was filed Dec. 4, 1996, then reduced to $25,000 the following day.

Bond paperwork shows Narez’s release conditions included no contact with children under 17, electronic monitoring and monthly drug tests.

A grand jury indicted Narez on a capital murder charge in April 1997, and prosecutors announced they were ready for trial.

But by Aug. 28, 1997, Narez’s bondsman told the court he could not reach her and did not know where she was. A judge issued a warrant for her arrest that day.

The docket later notes Narez’s bond was forfeited on Oct. 7, 1997, and another warrant was issued — with a handwritten notation indicating it had not been executed.

Narez later fled the country and remained a fugitive for nearly three decades, authorities said.

“Before the case could go to trial, Narez fled and has remained a fugitive for decades,” the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office said in a social media post. “The DA’s office never gave up on bringing Narez back to face the charge against her and answer for the death of her daughter.”

The district attorney’s office credited Mexico Interpol, the U.S. Marshals Service’s Mexico Foreign Field Office, the Department of Homeland Security, the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs and its own investigators for their roles in Narez’s capture.

News Media has reached out to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service for comment.

Narez is expected to be extradited to Texas to face the capital murder charge.
