Kristy O’Brien, an ABC journalist, is the wife of Michael Gunner, an Australian politician who recently resigned as Chief Minister of the Northern Territory.

Michael Patrick Francis Gunner (born 6 January 1976) is an Australian politician who is the 11th and current Chief Minister of the Northern Territory until May 2022.

Since the departure of then-Chief Minister Clare Martin in the 2008 election, he has represented Fannie Bay in Darwin in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly.

On August 31, he became the first Northern Territory native to be sworn in as Chief Minister. Gunner led Labor to another election victory in 2020, albeit with a smaller margin.

Kristy O’Brien, a Darling Downs farm kid and an ABC journalist, is the wife of Michael Gunner. She began her television career at the age of 16.

When she moved to the Northern Territory’s Darwin newsroom in 2009, she fell in love with the region. Kristy is an excellent documentary filmmaker who produced Cattle Scars, a digital series examining the consequences of the live cattle export trade to Indonesia, in 2012.

For her documentary Tough Ride, exposing the subject of brain injury affecting young people in regional Australia, she was selected as Screen Producers Australia’s One to Watch.

 

 

For her coverage of regional concerns, she was named Best Current Affairs Journalist in the Northern Territory in 2017 and South Australia/Northern Territory Rural Journalist of the Year and Best Television Broadcast Reporter in 2018.

 

Michael Gunner’s Children Details

Michael Gunner married ABC journalist Kristy O’Brien on December 3, 2017. He is married for the second time. The couple has two sons, born in 2020 and 2022.

His first son’s name is Hudson Gunner, and his second son’s name is Nash Michael Huckleberry Gunner. He has announced his retirement from parliament to spend more time with his family following the birth of his second child.

After the birth of their second son, Nash Michael Huckleberry Gunner, on April 29, the state’s leader declared his ‘mind and heart’ are no longer in his position.

The net worth of Australian politician, Michael Gunner, is estimated to be around $8 million. He has generated his fortune through his career as a politician.

Following the resignation of Chief Minister Clare Martin, he was elected to the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly for the Fannie Bay Electoral Division in 2008.

In the 2008 election, Gunner led Labor to 14 of the 25 seats in the Legislative Assembly.
