In the first race of this year’s Cheltenham Festival, a horse died after collapsing. After falling in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Shallwehaveonemore had to be put down.

In the race which was won by Constitution Hill, it was revealed that Shallwehaveonemore had been euthanized due to fatal injuries sustained in the fall.

Shallwehaveonemore raced six times in the United Kingdom, winning twice. The racehorse won by a whopping 20 lengths at Sandown last month.

According to a spokesman for Cheltenham Racecourse, “In the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Shallwehaveonemore was unfortunately injured.

“Our highly skilled veterinary team promptly took care of him, but after extensive treatment, it was determined that the horse needed to be put to sleep.”

Shallwehaveonemore’s death follows a dreadful pattern of at least one fatality at each Cheltenham Festival since 2000.

With the death of Shallwehaveonemore, the number of fatalities at this year’s Cheltenham Festival has already surpassed the total number of fatalities from the previous two renewals.

Cheltenham Racecourse has gone to great lengths to ensure the safety of the horses competing in the races, announcing its safety standards this week ahead of the festival’s opening day.

The Gary Moore-owned runner was competing in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on the first day of competition when he fell at the final fence.

Following the race’s conclusion, the racecourse medical team was quick to respond to the fall.

Vets and the medical team rushed to the aid of Shallwehaveonemore, a horse owned by Steven Packham and trained by Gary Moore.

Shallwehaveonemore, on the other hand, was euthanized after suffering severe injuries.
