Conrad Roy III was already struggling with mental illness and had done many previous attempts to take his own life.
Prior to his suicide and a few days after that incident, Michelle shared some secret texts with her then friend Samantha Boardman, the character of Natalie Gibson in the series.
Those shared messages and other texts shared to Conrad’s phone led the judges and lawyers to convict Michelle for helping in Conrad’s suicide while she could also have worked to fix that instead.

He used a newly brought generator to fill his vehicle with carbon monoxide and inhaled the lethal gas that led to his death by poisoning and suffocation.

Michelle texted Conrad at that time and even phoned him during the struggling phase.
When Conrad became scared that the process was working, he got out of the vehicle and reached out to his girlfriend Michelle.
She asked him to get in the vehicle as per the texts reports and shared messages.
