Maya Indea Jama, an English television, radio, and DJ presenter, was born on August 14, 1994. She co-presented Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer on BBC One with Peter Crouch and Alex Horne, and she will show Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star on BBC Three beginning with the third series (2021).

From 2015 to 2017, Jama co-hosted Trending Live! on 4Music. In 2018, she co-hosted True Love or True Lies on MTV. In addition, she co-hosted the first season of The Circle with Alice Levine on Channel 4. In radio, Jama co-hosted Radio 1’s Greatest Hits and hosted her own show, Maya Jama, on BBC Radio 1 from 2018 to 2020. She also hosted #DriveWithMaya on Rinse FM from 2014 to 2017.

In 2022 she was announced as the new host of the ITV2 dating reality series Love Island.

Parents And Siblings

Jama was raised in Bristol, where she was born, and she went to Cotham School. She has Swedish ancestry on her mother’s side and Somali ancestry on her father’s. Jama’s mother, Sadie, named her after American author and poet Maya Angelou when she was 19 years old. Omar is her brother as well.

Jama’s father spent the majority of her youth behind bars for violent offenses like fights and brawls at bars. When she was 12 years old, she made the decision to cease going to visit her father in jail, and she did so for ten years. She apologized after being accused of colorism, calling herself “an uneducated, stupid youngster” at the time the social media post was published in 2012.

Jama dated British rapper Stormzy between 2015 and 2019, and the breakup he had served as the inspiration for his song “Lessons” from that year.

In 2021, it was reported Jama was dating NBA player Ben Simmons. In August 2022, the couple reportedly ended their engagement.
