GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Tamario Anthony Mayze, 23, was arrested early this morning and charged with trespass after warning, battery on a law enforcement officer, and escape after allegedly kicking and running from an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy in Majestic Oaks.

An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the 5800 block of SW 20th Avenue (Majestic Oaks Apartments) after receiving a call about a man who was wandering around the property bothering residents; the caller asked that the man be trespassed from the property.

The man, who was identified as Mayze, was reportedly unable to provide a legitimate purpose for being at the apartment complex; the deputy issued him a trespass warning, and Mayze left the property.

As soon as the deputy left, the same caller reported that Mayze had returned to the apartment complex. The deputy also returned, reportedly found Mayze in the breezeway of a building, and arrested him for trespass after warning.

The deputy escorted Mayze to his patrol vehicle, but Mayze allegedly refused to swing his legs inside the vehicle; when the deputy grabbed Mayze’s legs to put them inside the vehicle, Mayze allegedly kicked the deputy twice in the chest. The deputy stepped back, and Mayze allegedly got out of the patrol vehicle. The deputy reportedly attempted a leg sweep to prevent Mayze from escaping, but his feet became entangled with Mayze’s feet, and Mayze allegedly ran through the parking lot of the complex. He was reportedly apprehended a short time later.

Mayze was last arrested in December 2023 for breaking into the BMW dealership in Gainesville and placing about $2,700 in merchandise into piles. After Mayze entered a plea of nolo contendere to burglary, he was sentenced to 18 months of drug probation on February 29, 2024, by Judge James Colaw; adjudication of guilt was withheld.

Mayze has one felony conviction (non-violent), three misdemeanor convictions (none violent), and seven dropped charges, including two felonies, over the past two years. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $65,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
