In a heartwarming return to his roots, Calvin Harris, estimated to be the world’s richest DJ with a net worth surpassing £230 million, has made a nostalgic investment by purchasing the pub where he once enjoyed pints before his rise to global fame. The Scottish music producer, 41, has reportedly partnered with his long-time friend, Mark Irving, to take over the Coach & Horses Inn located in a quaint corner of his hometown, Dumfries.
The duo has established a business called To The Nines and have stepped in to manage the establishment, with Irving acting as the landlord. “Calvin and Mark have gone into business together and created a company called To The Nines. They’ve now taken over the Coach & Horses and Mark is in place as the landlord. “It’s a gorgeous pub with a great atmosphere. It’s a great grass-roots music venue too, which is something they’re both really proud of,” a source told The Sun.
Adding a personal touch to the venue, a signed poster from Harris’s first album adorns the wall, a memento from his pre-fame days. Despite the challenging times for pubs, the Coach & Horses Inn is reportedly thriving under its new ownership.
The source added: “Calvin used to drink there before he got famous and there is a signed poster for his first album on the wall.
“It’s a hard time for pubs but the Coach & Horses Inn is thriving.”
John Owens, the former landlord, reminisced about Harris, known by his birth name Adam Wiles, and his early days at the pub. “Calvin, or Adam, is a pleasant chap, always has been.
We’re all proud of him. When he’s home he’ll pop in if he gets the chance,” Owens shared, reflecting the local pride in Harris’s success.
Harris, who has remained sober for several years, continues to enjoy the social ambiance of the pub while sticking to soft drinks.
His return to the pub scene aligns with his recent musical ventures. Besides managing his new business, Harris also juggles his responsibilities on his farm in Ibiza and at his upscale North London home, which he shares with his wife, Radio 1 DJ Vick Hope.
Calvin previously revealed that his drinking spiralled out of control before he quit for good in 2014.
He made the revelation on Twitter, now X, where he admitted to consuming two bottles of whisky a night alongside several baked goods from Greggs.
While Harris admitted in the 2018 exchange with fans that his life is “a bit less fun”, his health has improved.
He wrote: “Aye things are a bit less fun but haven’t had an arrhythmia since 2014.”
The musical sensation recently made headlines not just for his business acumen but for his artistic talents as well.
After a 15-year hiatus from singing, Harris is back on vocal duties with his latest track Smoke The Pain Away, which debuted last week and is expected to climb the charts.
