Known for her enduring role as Maggie Horton on “Days of Our Lives,” Suzanne Rogers has charmed audiences for over fifty years while keeping her off-screen life notably private. Although she plays a pivotal role in the fictional Horton family, her real-life family revolves around her marriage to fellow actor Sam Groom.
In a recent heartfelt disclosure, the 82-year-old actress bravely opened up about a major health hurdle she successfully tackled this past summer.
Suzanne Rogers and Sam Groom, famous for his roles in “The Road West” and “The Andromeda Strain,” were married in 1980. However, their relationship concluded with a divorce just two years later, in 1982.
The pair did not have children together, and Rogers has consistently maintained a level of discretion regarding her personal life, keeping her private affairs away from the spotlight throughout her illustrious career.
A Courageous Health Update and Positive Prognosis
Rogers became aware of her health issue after sensing something was amiss and promptly sought medical advice. She completed her treatment on July 31, 2025, expressing her relief and contentment afterward. Her eagerness to return to work was driven not by her health, but by her dedication to delivering her best performance as always.

The show’s producers fully supported her, assuring her that her role as Maggie Horton was waiting for her and that her health was the top priority. Her character is so integral that the show confirmed, “Maggie and Suzanne are integral to the show’s history, present storylines, and now, on the heels of our pick-up, the future! Neither are going anywhere.”
A Supportive On-Screen Family
While she doesn’t have a large immediate family off-screen, Rogers found tremendous support during a recent health crisis from her on-screen “Days of Our Lives” family. In October 2025, she revealed she was diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer and underwent six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy over the summer.
During this challenging time, she leaned heavily on her co-stars. She particularly highlighted Linsey Godfrey, who plays her on-screen daughter Sarah Horton, and Paul Telfer. “I had to have an infusion, and it takes about an hour and a half, so Linsey sat there with me and held my hand while I was having it,” Rogers shared. Other cast members like Mary Beth Evans, Stephen Nichols, Greg Rikaart, and AnnaLynne McCord also reached out with well-wishes, showing how the cast bonds like a real family.
