Justice Sought: Hamblen County Court Hears Case of Men Charged in Fatal Shooting

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — In connection with a shooting at a Hamblen County gathering, bail has been determined for Adam Perez Jr., 18, and Talan Trevathan, 19. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of Jayden Andrew Bullard, 16, and Marsalous Tre-Dante Vestal, 19, and left two others injured.

Adam Perez Jr. faces two charges of second-degree murder, while Talan Trevathan is accused of being an accomplice. Both individuals are also charged with two counts of aggravated assault and 19 counts of reckless endangerment. Their bond is set at $600,000 each, with conditions for GPS monitoring upon release.

6 News provided insights from the courtroom proceedings and the upcoming legal steps.

“It was definitely pretty rough to see them walk in,” remarked Amarion Beltran, a friend of Bullard, who attended the hearing.

In related news, a traffic stop in Lenoir City led to the confiscation of nearly 15 pounds of THC products.

“Upon arrival, deputies did find one victim deceased in the backyard, and then there was another victim in a bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds. Video shows Mr. Perez firing a firearm. There was other video with audio because there wasn’t audio on the video on the house, and that video shows there were 13 rounds fired,” explained Kitts.

When asked about how many guns there were in total, Kitts didn’t know the exact number, but stressed there were multiple, including guns possessed by both teens who died. In court, Perez’s grandmother and Trevathan’s mother asked the judge for lower bonds. Meanwhile, friends of Bullard were in the audience to show support.

“I got emotional because Jayden was one of my best friends for a year or so. I still can’t believe that he, you know…hearing that he died just broke my heart for him and then seeing them,” said Raeshaun Hurst.

“He would want us to be here for him, I know he would want us to be here. Cause he needs justice. Honestly, it’s wrong what they did, and the bond was set, I think, a little too low,” added Luciano Beltran, another friend.

A third person is also charged in connection with the shooting, 18-year-old Gracious Boruff. According to an arrest warrant, Boruff rented the Airbnb where the party took place. Investigators say she also brought three teens from Sevier County to the party, one of whom was involved in the shooting.

Boruff is charged with delinquency of a minor. She is set to be in court on February 5, while Perez and Trevathan will be in court on March 19th for a preliminary hearing.
