With NHL training camp approaching fast, the New York Rangers have moved to add another intriguing option to their forward group.
The Blueshirts were nearing an agreement Tuesday with Finnish winger Eeli Tolvanen, The Post confirmed. PuckPedia reported that the expected contract is a one-year deal worth $1.5 million.
Tolvanen, selected 30th overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft, brings a scorer’s profile and should have a real chance to battle for a role in the Rangers’ middle six. He has recorded at least 35 points in each of the last three seasons with the Seattle Kraken, highlighted by a career-best 23-goal campaign in 2024-25.
The 27-year-old forward offers lineup flexibility, with experience on both wings, though much of his eight-year NHL career has been spent playing the right side as a left-shot winger.
Tolvanen’s history as a power-play contributor, dating back to his time with the Nashville Predators, could also make him a useful addition to the Rangers’ second unit — an area that has struggled to provide consistent impact in recent seasons.

Last season, he registered the fourth-most power-play points (14) on the Kraken while primarily skating with their second unit.
Seattle — which claimed Tolvanen off waivers from the Predators in December 2022 — integrated the Finn into its penalty-killing rotation throughout his tenure. His PK responsibilities steadily increased each campaign, which culminated in him registering the seventh-most shorthanded minutes (80:53) on the team last season.
While Tolvanen somewhat fell short of his pure sniper reputation coming into the league, the 5-foot-10, 182-pounder developed a sneaky physical game.
Since he joined the Kraken, Tolvanen has led the entire club in hits (703) by a considerable margin. His 256 blocks over the past three seasons were good for the fourth most on the team, as well.
Tolvanen comes to New York with more than 400 regular-season games and 21 playoff games of experience.
