The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested 35-year-old Mark Mulliens in connection with the May killing of 28-year-old Jarrius Brown.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Mulliens on Thursday, alleging that he was involved in the shooting death of Brown, which occurred in May.
According to JSO, officers were called to a home on Mayfair Road near Beach Boulevard on May 17 after reports of a shooting. Brown was found at the scene with what appeared to be a gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Investigators determined that Brown had been involved in a physical confrontation with Mulliens before the dispute escalated, leading to the fatal shooting, JSO said.

Mulliens was initially arrested 10 days after the shooting on a charge of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon as detectives continued developing the murder case. He has remained in the Duval County Jail since then and now also faces a second-degree murder charge.
Jail and court records indicate Mulliens was released from prison in 2025 after serving four sentences stemming from drug trafficking and armed robbery convictions.
“The fight for justice doesn’t stop here; we’ll continue to work to bring closure to Brown’s loved ones,” JSO officials said in a statement.
