Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jessi Draper is speaking openly about her experience with plastic surgery and the criticism she has faced for discussing it.
“You can’t win,” Draper, 34, said during the Sunday, September 21, episode of the “Cheers!” podcast. “People are like, ‘You obviously got something done. Be honest and be authentic,’ and then you do that, and they rip you apart for doing that. It’s a double-edged sword.”
Draper said she “hates” when celebrities are not forthcoming about the cosmetic work they have had done, arguing that the subject comes with a frustrating double standard. “I feel like it’s better to be authentic but I also don’t ever want anyone to think I’m pushing plastic surgery. If anything, I tell people, ‘Be really cautious.’”
The hairstylist admitted that she believes she went too far with her most recent procedure. “I feel like I did too much and I wish I wouldn’t have done my last one,” she said. Draper added that she wishes people would allow public figures to share their experiences without treating those choices as personal instructions. “I really do wish people would let us just live our lives and be like, ‘Great. I’m glad you shared but I don’t need to take it on personally.’”
Draper most recently underwent facial fat grafting, a procedure she ultimately regretted. She said she had originally gone to a doctor for an upper and lower blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, but was advised to add fat grafting around her eyes. Draper told the doctor to do whatever would make her look “balanced,” but said fat was also placed in her jaw, lips and eyes.
“I was very upset,” Draper said, explaining that she felt “swollen” and “puffy” for months afterward. She eventually received Kybella in an effort to dissolve the fat. “It’s been a nightmare for the last nine months trying to fix what happened. Don’t get fat grafting,” she said.
In hindsight, Draper also feels she did not need the upper and lower blepharoplasty. “There’s so much pressure on us when we’re in the public eye, but I regret it, for sure,” she said.
Draper further acknowledged that life in the spotlight intensified her “body dysmorphia,” particularly after she faced negative comments about her appearance. “It’s a weird feeling not to recognize yourself,” she said.
During the podcast episode, Draper also revealed that she underwent a second breast augmentation because she wanted her breasts to better suit her frame. “I just felt like my boobs were a little too much, so I went a little smaller,” she shared. “No more surgeries!”
