A convicted child rapist allegedly attacked a woman after taking her to a Planet Fitness gym to use its showers, then allegedly sexually assaulted an employee who attempted to intervene.
Laquan Holland, 40, allegedly beat the woman, tried to remove her clothing and blocked her from escaping inside the Cambridge, Massachusetts, gym, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office told News Media.
The alleged attack occurred just weeks after a charge accusing Holland of failing to register as a sex offender was dismissed on the condition that he complete the registration process, prosecutors said.
Following his arraignment, Holland was ordered held without bail on two counts of assault with intent to rape, two counts of indecent assault and battery, kidnapping and witness intimidation.

A dangerousness hearing is set for Oct. 16. NBC10 Boston reported that a not guilty plea was entered on Holland’s behalf.
Prosecutors said Holland, who belonged to the Porter Square gym, arrived at about 9 a.m. Oct. 1 with a woman he knew after offering to let her use the facility’s showers.
Once they arrived, however, Holland allegedly began striking her.
Authorities said the woman ran into the women’s locker room and shower area. Holland allegedly followed her, continued hitting and touching her inappropriately, attempted to remove her clothing and prevented her from leaving, according to the district attorney’s office.

A female employee entered the shower area and tried to pull Holland away from the woman. He allegedly sexually assaulted the employee as well.
Police arrived and found Holland in the locker room attempting to put his clothes back on, prosecutors said.
According to Boston.com, which cited court records, Holland pleaded guilty in 2006 to two counts of child rape and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Cambridge police most recently arrested Holland on Aug. 25 for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender, a subsequent offense, according to police records reviewed by News Media.
The district attorney’s office said Holland is homeless and known to stay in Cambridge and Boston. He is required to complete registration and verification procedures every 30 days.
Prosecutors said Holland went to Cambridge police headquarters to register on Aug. 25 but was arrested for being late. The charge was later dismissed on the condition that he register, which he did on Aug. 27.
Planet Fitness told News Media that the franchise operator canceled Holland’s membership and is cooperating with investigators.
“Planet Fitness is committed to providing a safe environment for all. The franchise group has cancelled the membership of the individual involved and is working with local law enforcement to support their investigation into this matter,” the company said.
