Registered Sex Offender Arrested at Campus Walk After 9 Months

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Michael Anthony Dunn, 53, was arrested Friday at Campus Walk Apartments after authorities accused him of failing to complete required sexual-offender check-ins with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office since January. Dunn had registered as transient in January, listing GRACE Marketplace as his address, and was required to report every 30 days. Investigators said they did not learn where he was staying until receiving a tip that he was living at Campus Walk.

The Sheriff’s Office received the tip July 10. It identified Dunn as residing at Campus Walk Apartments, 914 SW 8th Avenue, rather than his registered location at GRACE Marketplace, 3055 NE 28th Drive. A detective reviewed Dunn’s criminal history and found that he was convicted of indecent assault in Broward County in 1994, served three years of probation and was subsequently classified as a sexual offender.

Dunn previously served three prison terms from Marion County for failing to register as a sexual offender. Following his latest release on December 1, 2025, he allegedly failed to report to law enforcement within the required 48-hour period.

Dunn registered as a transient in Alachua County on January 6, 2026, listing GRACE Marketplace as his address. Under Florida’s reporting rules, transient offenders must check in with the Sheriff’s Office every 30 days, in addition to the standard twice-yearly reporting requirement during their birthday month and six months afterward. For Dunn, those additional reporting months were October and April. The law also requires offenders to appear in person if they change the location where they maintain a transient residence.

According to investigators, Dunn signed a form when he registered in January confirming that he understood those obligations.

The detective concluded that Dunn had stopped complying with his sexual-offender registration requirements after failing to report following his January registration. A sworn complaint was filed after deputies could not locate him July 27 and he did not respond to calls placed to the phone number on file.

Dunn faces one charge related to failing to register in April, along with three counts alleging that he failed to complete the required 30-day reports as a transient offender.

The sworn complaint does not indicate that the Sheriff’s Office knew Dunn had stopped reporting before the tip was submitted. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Sexual Offender website also did not identify him as absconded on the day of his arrest.

Dunn has four felony convictions, including one sexual offense, and has served three separate state prison sentences.

An initial arrest warrant signed by Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard set bail at $100,000. Judge Wilson Bullard later issued an amended warrant September 1, raising bail to $400,000. Judge Craig DeThomasis subsequently confirmed the $400,000 bail amount.
