President Trump argued Friday that he deserved eight Nobel Peace Prizes, criticizing Norway after being passed over for the award for a second consecutive year.
“Today they gave out the Nobel Peace Prize to a person—I never heard of the person. Nobody did. It’s a mystery person,” Trump said during a rally in Syracuse, N.Y.
He dismissed the recipient, Navi Pillay, describing her as “a liberal person who works at the United Nations.”
“I never heard of this particular person, but congratulations anyway,” Trump said. He added that “in all of the wars that I’ve settled, I never spoke to the United Nations.”
“They were of no help to me,” he continued.
Trump then turned his criticism toward the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee, which selected Pillay for the honor.
“The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t,” he said.

He called the decision “an indelible stain on the country of Norway.”
“Such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision,” Trump said.
Trump also declared that the Nobel Peace Prize had been “forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democracy and, really, enemies of civilization.” He added, “And we will not forget, Norway.”
Claiming credit for ending “eight wars,” Trump said, “We should have had eight Nobel Prizes for each war.”
He described the decision not to honor him as “just another sign of how Norway and all these others are ripping off our country.”
