The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the victim is in non-life-threatening condition.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities are investigating an early Sunday shooting on Mill Creek Road that followed an argument between two groups, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Mill Creek Road at about 1:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.
By the time officers arrived, they learned the victim had been taken to a nearby hospital. Investigators later found a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, JSO reported.
Investigators said the victim and his friends had been spending time near Regency Mall when two vehicles arrived and their occupants began arguing with them. The group left in an effort to avoid the confrontation, but the vehicles reportedly followed them to a business on Mill Creek Road. The dispute continued there before one suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim. Both vehicles were SUVs—one white and the other red. JSO said the two groups did not appear to know each other.
Detectives from JSO’s Robbery and Violent Crime Unit are interviewing witnesses, searching the area for surveillance footage and pursuing additional leads.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact JSO’s non-emergency line at 904-630-0500. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
