“Love Island Australia” alum Trent Woolman is recovering in the hospital after falling into a bonfire and suffering severe burns to his arms, mouth and airway.
Doctors also discovered that Woolman had a brain bleed and a cyst after he was brought to the hospital. The reality star appeared on Season 5 of the popular dating show.
“Been traumatic and the worst time of my life,” Woolman told the Daily Mail in an interview published Monday.
The tower crane operator said he had been sober and was working alone in a paddock at his sister’s home when he fell into the fire.
After managing to get out of the flames, Woolman crawled back to the house, where his sister called emergency services. He was airlifted to Melbourne’s Alfred hospital and admitted to the trauma unit.
Woolman was initially scheduled to receive skin grafts on his arms immediately. However, doctors postponed the procedure after finding the brain bleed.
Medical staff have since treated the brain bleed and cyst, and Woolman has undergone the skin-graft operation.
He described his sister as “amazing” and “brave,” crediting her with acting quickly during the terrifying ordeal.
Woolman has spent more than two weeks in the hospital and is expected to remain there for several additional weeks.
The Cleveland Clinic says most skin grafts are successful, although complications such as infection and bleeding can occur.
Woolman joined the “Love Island Australia” villa on the show’s first day but was eliminated on day 22.
Although he has largely moved away from reality television, Woolman is scheduled to make a cameo during the upcoming season of “Married at First Sight Australia.”
He was seen at the wedding of his “Love Island” co-star Zac Nunns while the series was being filmed.
Nunns is expected to appear as a “bombshell intruder” and marry TikTok influencer Vanilla Milla.
