Prince Harry was reportedly hoping the Christmas season could create a path toward reconciliation with his father, King Charles. RadarOnline claimed the Duke of Sussex wanted to spend the holidays in the UK alongside Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
“Harry had desperately wanted to remain in Britain, believing Christmas offered a rare opportunity to rebuild his relationship with King Charles if his grandchildren could be involved in a visit,” an alleged source said. According to the insider, Harry viewed the festive gathering as a possible turning point in his strained relationship with the royal family.
The source added that Harry hoped the occasion would help both sides move beyond years of resentment. “He knows things can’t be fixed overnight, but he felt the festive season could have given everyone an excuse to lower their defenses,” the insider claimed.
The prospect of missing yet another Christmas with his father is reportedly painful for Harry, who is said to feel that time with Charles is increasingly valuable. Meghan, however, is reportedly leaning toward a California celebration with her mother, Doria Ragland.
According to the source, Markle views the situation differently. “As far as she’s concerned, they’ve spent far too long trying to win over people who have made very little effort to welcome them back,” the insider said, adding that she does not want the family’s holiday to feel tense or uncomfortable.
The report claimed Meghan would rather avoid uncertainty over royal invitations or concerns about how she and the children might be received. Her priority, the source said, is giving Archie and Lilibet a joyful Christmas surrounded by relatives and friends who are genuinely happy to celebrate with them.
Remaining in California could therefore offer the children a calmer and more relaxed holiday. Harry is reportedly sympathetic to Meghan’s position and does not want to pressure her into an environment she fears. At the same time, the insider claimed he is finding it difficult to accept the possibility of losing another opportunity to repair his bond with King Charles.

Harry is also said to worry that Charles could interpret a return to the United States as evidence that he has stopped trying to rebuild their relationship. “One of Harry’s biggest concerns is how Charles will interpret the decision to head back to America, as it inevitably means he’ll be going with Meghan,” the source claimed.
The Duke has previously spoken publicly about his hopes for a family reconciliation. In an interview with GQ published on October 20, Harry addressed the difficult relationships he shares with Charles and his older brother, Prince William.
“With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile,” Harry said. While acknowledging that “some people don’t want it to work out,” he made his own position clear: “I want it to work out.” A spokesperson for the Sussexes later stressed that the comments were not intended as a criticism of William or any other member of the royal family.
ABC News reported that the spokesperson described Harry’s remarks as having been made “in a general context.” Earlier this year, Harry, Meghan and their children met Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House on July 10. The visit marked the first known occasion since 2022 that Charles had seen Archie and Lilibet in person.
Harry and Meghan withdrew from official royal duties in 2020 before relocating to California. Their last Christmas with the wider royal family took place in 2018, and relations between the Sussexes and senior royals have remained strained in the years since.
