A worker at a Kentucky retirement community was arrested after authorities alleged he recorded a 92-year-old man suffocating his wife rather than intervening to help her.

Terrence Gabie, 41, was arrested Wednesday and charged with knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult, the Louisville Metro Police Department announced.

The case is linked to the arrest of Bert Morris, who faces charges of attempted murder related to domestic violence and first-degree strangulation, as Law&Crime previously reported.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday, police received a report of a “domestic violence incident” at the StoryPoint Brownsboro retirement community. Officers went to the facility in the 6700 block of Overlook Drive, where they were told staff had “intervened during an assault involving an elderly female victim.”

Authorities allege that Morris placed a plastic bag over his wife’s face and pinched her nose. Paramedics took the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police learned additional details after reviewing video of the alleged attack, local ABC affiliate WHAS reported. Investigators said the recording was intentional.

According to authorities, Gabie filmed Morris instead of assisting the woman, whose life was reportedly in danger. Gabie was the woman’s designated caregiver at the facility.

Gabie allegedly watched Morris attempt to kill his wife, took out his phone and recorded a 71-second video. He “failed to provide aide or assistance to the victim at this time, knowing the victim was in danger,” police wrote in court documents, according to WHAS.

Authorities said the alleged assault continued until another nurse stepped in.

Morris was also arrested Wednesday. During an interview with police, he allegedly said his wife “needed to die.”

A spokesperson for StoryPoint Brownsboro told WHAS in a statement that the facility “is working closely and fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities.”

“While we are unable to comment on specific details at this time, the safety, well-being, and peace of mind of our residents remain our highest priority and at the heart of everything we do,” the statement said.

The woman’s current condition remains unclear.
