Gainesville Man Charged With 31 Felonies in Child Sex Case

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Huy Quang Do, 25, is facing 31 additional felony charges after investigators searched his phone in a case involving allegations that he repeatedly picked up a 12-year-old Lake City girl and took her to his apartment for sex over an eight-month period. Do had previously been charged with nine felonies.

The investigation began August 4, when an adult reported the girl missing. Authorities tracked her to Do’s apartment at The Continuum, located at 491 W. University Ave., where Do and the girl were reportedly found. Investigators determined that Do met the girl, who was 12 at the time, on Tinder and began communicating with her regularly by phone. In December 2025, he allegedly drove to Lake City, picked her up and brought her to his Gainesville apartment, where they had sexual intercourse. The girl reportedly told investigators that this happened at least five times, most recently on August 4, when she was 13.

Authorities obtained several search warrants following Do’s arrest. The allegations detailed below are based on evidence investigators say they recovered afterward.

According to the investigation, Do began communicating on Tinder with another 12-year-old girl on December 14, 2025. That girl introduced him to her friend—the victim in this case—and created a group chat involving all three. Investigators say Do learned that same day that both girls were 12. Do and the victim exchanged text messages for about eight hours before he allegedly drove to Lake City to meet the girls. Before leaving, he reportedly asked the victim whether he should bring condoms, and the two decided that he would. Investigators allege that Do sexually battered the victim using the condoms during the early morning hours of December 15, after traveling to Lake City.

Investigators also reported that Do acknowledged “on numerous occasions” that the victim was a child. He allegedly knew she was in middle school, understood that she was going through puberty and recognized that he could be arrested.

Do allegedly recorded sexual encounters with the victim on “most” occasions when they were together. Investigators say he sent her “dozens” of sexually explicit and graphic text messages and repeatedly pressured her to send nude videos or recordings of herself touching her body in a sexual manner. The messages reportedly show that the victim sometimes complied and sometimes refused.

A detective wrote that Do “hurl[ed] cruel insults” at the victim nearly every day. The messages, the detective said, revealed “the depth of the manipulation, abuse, and exploitation of the child [victim] by [Do].”

The detective reported finding 87 images of the victim on Do’s phone that were classified as child pornography, along with additional images described as “lewd and/or lascivious in nature.” Investigators said all of the images “were either produced by [Do] himself or produced by [Do] by directing the child [victim] to make and/or take such images and/or videos.”

The new charges include two counts of kidnapping a child under 13 for the purpose of committing sexual battery; seven counts of sexual battery involving a child between 12 and 18; one count of attempted lewd or lascivious battery; seven counts of using a child in a sexual performance; four counts of attempting to use a child in a sexual performance; three counts of traveling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual activity; one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child; two counts of explicit communication with a minor; and four counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child. Those charges are in addition to the nine felonies filed previously.

Do remains in custody without bail.
