Prince William’s appearance on The Graham Norton Show prompted viewers to search for one unexpected detail.

The Prince of Wales made television history with his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, becoming the first member of the royal family to appear on the program.

William joined Cate Blanchett, Robert Irwin, and Hannah Waddingham on the British comedy talk show in October 2026 while discussing his international environmental initiative, the Earthshot Prize. However, his story about trying to “push” Travis Kelce out of a highly sought-after photograph with his children and Taylor Swift quickly became one of the episode’s most talked-about moments.

Kelce later took the anecdote in good humor, saying he understood the situation and quipping, “I was just a boyfriend at that point.”

Yet the viral conversation surrounding William’s time on the red sofa was not limited to his celebrity encounter. Viewers also noticed that he was not wearing a wedding band, sending searches for “Prince William wedding ring” soaring by 5,000%. Interest reached its highest level in more than two years across the UK, the United States, and the rest of the world.

The explanation, however, is straightforward: Prince William has never worn a wedding ring. A jewelry expert has now detailed the personal choice behind it.

Laura Taylor, a jeweler who specializes in engagement and wedding rings at Lorel Diamonds, told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that the topic tends to resurface every few years. “Prince William not wearing a wedding ring is something people seem to rediscover every few years, but it isn’t a recent change and certainly doesn’t suggest that anything has happened between him and Kate.

She explained that the couple had made their wishes clear before their 2011 wedding, when it was announced that only one wedding band would be exchanged. Kate received a Welsh gold ring during the ceremony, while William decided not to wear one himself.

“At the time, it was said that William simply did not wear jewelry,” Taylor continued. “He had never worn rings before his marriage and apparently had no desire to change that. The choice appears to reflect personal taste rather than a specific royal tradition. It also matches his usual style, as he does not wear a signet ring either, despite their long association with royal and aristocratic men.”

Taylor added that William’s relaxed The Graham Norton Show appearance offered viewers a more approachable look at the future king, with his bare left hand providing another example of his preference for doing things his own way. Kate does wear her wedding band, a slim Welsh gold ring gifted by the late queen, typically pairing it with Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire engagement ring.
