North West Opens Up About Her Parents, Art, Fashion and Music

North West is offering a closer look at her interests, creative ambitions and family life.

In a recent conversation with EmWell on the Well Well Well show, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter opened up about everything from makeup and fashion to the qualities she values in her parents.

On her relationship with her parents

When asked who she feels grateful to have in her life, North immediately pointed to her family.

“Like my mom like birthed me and then like she helps me through everything and my dad too and like they’re just nice people,” North said. “I’m glad to have them as my family.”

On using a deer as her symbol

As part of a drawing activity, North illustrated a deer and revealed that the animal has a personal connection to her emerging stage identity.

“It’s lowkey like my symbol I guess for my stage and stuff,” she said. “And it just shows like pure because like a deer is like one of the purest animals and it keeps getting shot at so it resembles me.”

North also brought out an older painting she said she created when she was around 8 years old. While she enjoys painting sunsets and landscapes, she admitted that completing artwork can require more patience than she has.

“It was fun, but like just boring. Like painting is boring cuz it takes such a minute,” North said. “Took like even like up to five days.”

On her love of makeup

Beauty and styling are also among North’s favorite creative outlets. She said she shops for makeup at Sephora and is especially interested in developing her wig-styling abilities.

“Doing wigs because I want to do wigs on people,” she said.

North also explained why lavender has replaced pink as her favorite color.

“My favorite color is lavender because I used to be like, ‘Oh, my favorite color is pink.’ But everybody liked pink, so I was like, ‘No, I got to be different. Like I can’t like pink as my favorite color,’” North said.

On her love of Hatsune Miku

Her fashion influences include Hatsune Miku, the virtual singer known for her turquoise hair. North recently paid tribute to the character with her Halloween costume.

Asked what draws her to Miku, North said, “I don’t know. I just want to dress like her. I just want to be like her. That’s a lifestyle I want to live.”

On her fashion plans

North’s own fashion venture, Nory, is still taking shape.

“Got to work on it better because I want the next drop to be crazy and that’s going to be in a minute, maybe a few years,” she said.

Describing the direction of the project, North said, “Just like what I’d be wearing but so much elevated and then like making it better.”

On her message to herself

The interview concluded with a self-reflection exercise, in which North was asked to write a letter to her future self. Her message was short but encouraging.

“Dear North, you will get better. Sincerely, North West,” she read.

On making music with her dad in Japan

North also spoke about the time she spent working with her dad in Japan.

“I was going to a studio every day with him. It’s like lowkey training in Japan,” she said.

Her dad encouraged her to practice rapping a cappella, which North found challenging.

“But that’s what got me better. So I’m highkey grateful,” she said.

On scrapping her Elementary School Dropout album

North confirmed that Elementary School Dropout will not be released.

“It’s never coming out,” she said. “I needed to make more music and I needed a different sound. This sound was not it for me.”

She explained that the project later became Grammar School Dropout.

“That’s when it started getting better. The music started getting better. I started producing,” North said.

Asked how many unreleased albums she has, North answered, “Two.”
