Rosie O’Donnell is considering a return to the United States after celebrating the Democrats’ strong performance in the midterm elections.
The longtime critic of the current administration left the country for Ireland after Donald Trump won the presidency for a second time in 2024.
Although O’Donnell has embraced her new life abroad, she recently told The Washington Post that she may move back to New York. Dublin is “beautiful — we love it here,” she said, but “my family’s not here.”
“I miss my grown kids,” O’Donnell added. “I miss my grandson that was born six months ago. And I feel like I’ve missed half his life already and don’t want to miss any more.”
The A League of Their Own star shares four children with her ex-wife Kelli Carpenter and one child with her late ex-wife, Michelle Rounds.
O’Donnell also took to TikTok to celebrate the Democratic victories in Tuesday’s midterm elections, in which the party won control of the House and secured a Senate majority.
“It’s a beautiful morning in the world,” she said. “The Trump regime is over, thank you America. I knew we would do it; I knew it in my heart.”
“You gotta believe people, and you did, and you showed up,” she continued. “And we gave a very loud and clear message to Trump … and his partners in cruelty. His criminal friends — enough, we’ve had enough.”
O’Donnell said she went to bed early in Dublin as election results continued to come in from the United States.
“I didn’t think I could stay up; I was so anxious,” she explained. “I went to bed and at 3 o’clock in the morning — ding, ding, ding, ding — everyone started texting me and I started to cry.”

“I was so overwhelmed with emotion — overwhelmed — and I got up this morning and I took a shower and I put on my blue jumper … and I’m like, I’m wearing blue today.”
She said she was “so proud of all of us, of our country,” before condemning what she described as the administration’s “unconstitutional, un-American things” directed at people in the United States and around the world.
“Let the investigations begin, really,” O’Donnell said. “This is a glorious day.”
In a statement to Fox News Digital, the White House fired back at O’Donnell, calling her “a nasty woman and a total slob whose brain has been completely destroyed by Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Earlier this year, O’Donnell completed a guest-hosting stint on the late-night program of fellow Trump critic Jimmy Kimmel, where she referred to the president as “orange Voldemort.”
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here thanks to everyone who’s been watching this week, especially the hungry, hungry hypocrite in the White House,” she said during her final opening monologue.
“Most of all, I’d like to thank Jimmy Kimmel for inviting me to do this and for reminding everyone that we have the right to free speech in this country, whether orange Voldemort likes it or not.”
O’Donnell and Trump have exchanged barbs for decades. After she moved to Ireland in 2025, the president even threatened to revoke her citizenship.
Their long-running feud began in 2006, when O’Donnell was a co-host on The View and criticized Trump over his decision to show leniency toward a Miss USA winner accused of drug use and other misconduct.
