Authorities allege that Jose Raul has been exploiting social media platforms for the past decade to target young boys and girls, capturing illicit footage of them and distributing it for profit online.
Taskforce Argos, the child protection division of the Queensland Police Service, discovered these disturbing materials circulating within Australia last year. They promptly alerted Mexican officials, who have been conducting an investigation ever since.
Investigators managed to locate Raul in Mexico’s Yucatan region, where they confiscated several electronic devices from a residence.
Raul is currently facing charges of aggravated human trafficking.
According to local news outlets, Raul was employed as a children’s soccer coach in Mexico. Police have characterized the extent of his alleged crimes as “prolific.”
So far no Australian victims have been identified.
