Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Charges of grand theft and forgery have been filed against 34-year-old Jocelyn Monique Hill. She stands accused of using outdated checks to unlawfully withdraw over $4,700 from her disabled brother’s bank account.

The case came to light when the victim’s caretaker alerted the Gainesville Police Department. The caretaker noticed that six checks, totaling $1,698.20, had been drawn from the victim’s account. Upon investigation, it was discovered that these checks were made payable to Hill.

According to police reports, the victim had not authorized Hill to write any checks on his behalf, and he has no direct contact with her. Further investigation revealed that Hill had stumbled upon these old checks while assisting in cleaning out their mother’s home.

Subpoenaed records suggest that Hill wrote a total of 14 checks to herself, amassing $4,751.12 in unauthorized transactions.

The officer reported that Hill moved to Jacksonville in January 2024, and officers were unable to locate her when the sworn complaint was filed in March 2024, but a warrant for her arrest was issued in February 2026 with a Gainesville address. She was arrested on March 31 by a Cross City Police Department officer after a traffic stop and was transported to the Alachua County Jail.

Formal charges of grand theft and forgery have been filed. Hill has six felony convictions (non-violent), three misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), and two traffic convictions. Judge Denise Ferrero set bail at $30,000 in the arrest warrant, and Judge William Davis confirmed that bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
